Chapter 1 — Werewolf Experiment
"Subject 007, not yet awakened as a wolf.
"Microchip is normal. Body parameters are normal. The mental state is depressed."
Inside a spacious and spotless laboratory, a doctor in a white coat was diligently composing a report. A girl, wearing a simple striped hospital gown, moved away from the equipment set before him. Her hollow cheeks made her eyes look disproportionately large.
"Another failure," the doctor said with a sigh.
He shook his head and instructed someone to take the girl back to her room. Though he said room, it was actually a cell.
The room was simply furnished, with everything visible at a glance, while several surveillance cameras overlooked the room.
The girl mechanically followed the person guarding her with an expressionless look on her face.
She could no longer remember how long it had been since her capture. Through countless experiments, she had even started to forget her own name.
What was her name?
Summer... Moore?
The girl's vacant eyes shifted, regaining a bit of light.
Oh, right. Her name was Summer Moore.
On the way home to find her long-lost father, she was ambushed and knocked out, then tied up and brought here that night.
She had been planning her escape ever since, but the place was heavily guarded. Everyone here was injected with a drug that made escape impossible.
Not to mention, they were frequently taken to the lab for surgery.
They used only a minimal amount of anesthesia before the cold scalpel sliced into her flesh. The excruciating pain made her want to lose consciousness, but whatever they had injected kept her mind painfully alert.
Overhead, a television played a continuous loop of documentaries about wolves from Animal Planet.
To Summer, the whole notion was absurd and crazy. She could not fathom why these people were convinced that werewolves were real. They even thought that humans could be turned into werewolves through surgical procedures. They were abducting people to perform these experiments at any price, but were those not just made-up tales?
Eventually, Summer grew to despise wolves because seeing those furry creatures meant she was about to experience excruciating pain.
Summer closed her eyes, trying to block out the pain since a microchip was still monitoring her heart rate. If her heart rate surpassed the expected range, it would catch the attention of the medical staff, leading to even more agonizing punishments.
On the way back, Summer and her guard passed many others like her. Their expressions were numb and filled with pain.
As soon as she sat down in her room, the door opened once more
Summer turned to see a tall, strong man standing in the doorway.
His gaze was predatory, like a wolf sizing up its prey.
Summer's wariness increased.
Then, another burly man walked in.
One, two, three... Five men in total entered the room.
Each of them was very tall, and their presence almost completely filled the room, creating an oppressive atmosphere.
Summer's wariness peaked.
"Subject 007, your experiment is complete. You did not meet the standard. Under normal circumstances, you would be disposed of."
Being disposed of meant death. Summer did not need to ask to understand that. Instead, she pressed her lips together and asked, "Under normal circumstances?"
"Yes. However, because you are that person's daughter, and your genes are exceptionally good, the higher-ups are willing to give you another chance."
"What chance?"
"Give birth to a child for us to continue experimenting on."
As soon as he finished speaking, the man removed his shirt.
The five men behind him also took off their shirts, revealing their beast-like bodies.
"Subject 007, you should be grateful that you are still useful. Otherwise, you would only have one option. Death."
The first man slowly approached her. His eyes glowed green, which was terrifying.
Summer's palms were cold with sweat, but she forced herself to remain calm. "My parents are just ordinary humans. They do not have the excellent genes you want."
The man shook his head with a smirk. "Human girl, you know too little."
He lunged at her. "Just accept it!"
Accept it?
Accept being raped by strange men and forced to bear them children? Then, let those children live painfully as their experimental subjects?
No!
She would never accept it!
Had she not been so careless, she would never have been captured by these people, nor would she have been confined here for so long!
Everything around her was alien. Even the drugs they administered were unlike anything she had encountered before. This place felt like another world, a terrifying one not meant for humans!
Summer swiftly took in her surroundings. As the man charged at her, she ducked and slipped through the gaps between them. Her small body weaved among the men as she quickly made her way out of the room.
"Darn it! Catch her!" the man roared, his bloodshot eyes filled with anger.
Summer ran extremely fast. The alarm from the heart rate monitor on her body was shrill, but she did not care about anything anymore.
Every day she had been here, she had thought about escaping and considered countless possibilities. She had hoped to find the safest route, but she had not expected the day to come so soon.
She knew there was a section in the lab reserved for explosives. This likely served as an emergency protocol for the group. If the site was found, they would immediately blow it up to safeguard the experimental data from being compromised.
"She is heading to the Powder Room. Stop her!"
Someone saw through her intentions, and the lab's alarm started blaring.
However, Summer did not dare to stop for a single moment, even if she felt like her lungs were about to explode.
"Stop or die!"
Someone stood in her way, pointing a bright, shiny gun at her head.
Summer pressed her lips together. Her eyes turned cold. Then, she stepped forward without hesitation. Even if it meant dying, she would not submit.
Upon seeing this, the person opposite her pulled the trigger without mercy.
Bang!
The bullet was fired. However, Summer did not get it.
She dodged it with incredible speed!
Just then, Summer felt her body break through some kind of limit!
Her strength increased, her speed became faster, and she could even hear people talking thousands of feet away!
She heard several people complaining to each other.
"Why does our Alpha like a human? She's as weak as an ant."
"An awakening is Selene's design. These experiments that go against Selene's will can never succeed!"
"If this gets out and the other packs find out, we are all doomed!"
"Oh, by Selene! That human really has awakened! Be careful. Do not let her die! This might be the hope for Alpha's human wife!"
Summer did not understand what an "Alpha" was, but she realized that those people were indeed not shooting at her anymore.
She ran even faster, almost reaching the Powder Room in the blink of an eye.
Without taking the time to feel the changes in her body, Summer immediately ignited the explosives.
Boom!
As the flames burst out, the roof was blown open. At long last, sunlight and fresh air flooded in.
Summer slowly closed her eyes.
If she could live again, she would never be captured here again.
Then, she would find a way to locate and destroy this place!
Chapter 2 — Rebirth
On a deserted island.
The heavy rain felt like hail against her skin as waves crashed and banged against the rocks.
Summer struggled to stand as the rain hit her face, mixing with her blood. She seemed to feel nothing.
She had been reborn.
Back to the day one year ago when she was assassinated.
This time, she was prepared and fought back against those people. The cruise ship sank, and she drifted to this deserted island.
The individuals who attempted to capture her for experiments met their demise when the cruise ship exploded.
This was her seventh day stranded on the island, with no sight of any passing ships.
Fortunately, the island was abundant with trees, and she had managed to create a basic wooden boat.
While working on the boat, her mind was unsettled, constantly replaying the events of her past life, but the truth stayed obscured.
Summer stood up to stretch her muscles and noticed something black near the rocks.
She carefully moved closer and was astonished to find the black object was a man.
The man’s face was fair and exceptionally handsome, but he had a wound on his waist. His blood mixed with the seawater in a sight that resembled the sunset. Judging by his clothes, he was not one of those who tried to capture her.
Summer checked the man’s breathing and confirmed he was still alive. She struggled to drag him back to land and carried him to the cave where she had been sleeping for the past few days.
After lighting a fire, she ran out into the rain. When she returned, she had a few herbs in her hand.
“You are lucky to run into me,” Summer said as she reached out to remove the man’s clothes.
Summer examined the man’s wound on his waist. It was a deep knife wound, and she did not know if it had injured any internal organs.
As she was about to check his pulse, her wrist was suddenly gripped by a large hand.
“Who... are you?” The man’s voice was weak, but his grip on her wrist was strong.
Summer glanced at the man and calmly said, “Who am I? Your savior. If you do not let go, I will have to make you a tombstone. How about 'John Doe' as a name?”
The man frowned and said nothing. His eyes fell on the crushed herbs in her hand.
“What are you staring at? Take off your clothes. I am helping you.”
Summer reached out to help him.
“I can do it myself.”
The man disdainfully pushed her hand away and removed his clothes, but his blue eyes remained vigilant.
As his clothes came off, Summer saw the man’s eight-pack abs and the smooth lines of muscles that extended to his waistband. His physique was incredible.
Still, it had nothing to do with her. After the inhumane experiments she had gone through, she no longer had any interest in men’s bodies.
As she thought that, Summer expressionlessly applied the herbs to the man’s wound.
“What is this?” the man asked in a low voice.
“Herbs to stop bleeding and reduce inflammation.”
“Where is this place?”
Summer shot the man an impatient glance. He was very handsome, but he asked too many questions. If she knew where they were, would she have been stuck here for seven days?
“If you have questions, go to school. If you have the energy to talk, you might as well lie down and sleep.”
The man irritably said, “That is not how a doctor should talk to a patient.”
“Ha!” Summer smiled. “Is that how you talk to your savior then?”
The man scowled.
“Woman, you are very rude.”
“Man, you are very impolite.”
They stared at each other, one with a cold glare and the other with a heated glare. It was as if there were sparks in the air.
Summer refrained from arguing with the injured man. At last, she stood up and said, “The rain is heavy today, making it very cold tonight. I will go and light a fire. You lie down and keep quiet.”
With a furrowed brow, Summer headed to the corner to light a fire. The man’s wound was peculiar, covered with a faint silvery substance that she had to meticulously remove. Some of it had infiltrated his flesh, leading to inflammation.
Night quickly fell.
They lay on opposite sides of the cave. Summer was awakened by groans in the middle of the night.
She opened her eyes and saw the man’s already pale face turn even paler. He curled up, covered in cold sweat.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Summer walked over and poked the man’s muscular arm, but he did not respond.
She quickly put a hand on his forehead. It was burning hot.
This was a fever caused by the infection.
In normal circumstances, two amoxicillin tablets would solve the problem. However, where on this deserted island could she find amoxicillin?
Summer had no choice but to use physical methods to reduce the fever.
Later, the man stopped burning up and began to shiver all over. He kept muttering about the cold in a daze.
Summer moved him closer to the fire, but it did not help.
“Darn it,” Summer softly cursed. She reluctantly took off her clothes and lay down, tightly hugging the man to warm him with her body.
It was important to save lives, even if this man were a dog.
Of course, if he were a wolf, she would not save him.
Eventually, Summer fell asleep. Half-asleep, she felt her breathing become labored as if something heavy was pressing on her. She groggily touched it. It was furry, not like a human, more like an animal.
She tiredly opened her eyes and was met with a pair of icy blue eyes that glowed in the dark.
What...?
Summer’s breath caught. A wolf!
Chapter 3 — Run
Was it possible she had not escaped from that nightmare of a laboratory?
Were the past few days just a dream?
Summer could not help but tremble in fear. In the next moment, anger surged in her heart.
Darn it!
She punched hard, hitting the wolf's face.
Anger sparked in those icy blue eyes, and fangs immediately clamped around her slender neck. With a little more force, they could pierce her delicate skin and take her life.
Strangely enough, the wolf did not bite down. It stopped with its fangs resting on her skin.
Moments later, the wolf turned and left.
Summer sat on the ground, relieved to be alive. Although she did not understand why the wolf did not eat her, she had to find a way to escape this place.
However...
Summer looked around but did not see the man. Her heart sank. It seemed the wolf had eaten him.
At that moment, a loud, distant wolf howl sounded outside.
Awoo!
Soon after, countless wolf howls responded from afar.
Awoo!
Awoo!
Awoo!
These howls sounded like they were responding to an alpha wolf's call.
Summer's face turned pale. The wolf was surely calling its pack. She immediately stood up and sneaked out of the cave.
She did not notice the majestic wolf watching her out of the corner of its eye.
The next day, Summer, resting in another cave, was awakened by the sound of a helicopter's blades.
She hurried out and looked up to see a green helicopter slowly descending and landing very close to her cave.
Summer rushed over and saw a dozen bodyguards filing out of the helicopter. They all stood respectfully in front of a man. It was the man she had saved.
"Darn it!"
Summer cursed. The man had not been eaten. He had run away when he saw the wolf coming!
That ungrateful man!
Upon hearing the noise, the man turned to look at her.
For the first time, Summer saw the man's face under the bright daylight. He was very handsome, with deep blue eyes and a powerful aura that lingered around him. Except for his still-pale face, he looked no different from a normal person.
This man's fitness level was far above the average.
"You..."
Summer began, but the man interrupted her, asking, "What do you want?"
"Huh?" She did not understand.
The man blankly said, "You saved me. I can grant you one wish."
"No need. If I had not been lucky yesterday, I would have been eaten by the wolf. You would not have to grant any wish!"
Summer was rendered speechless by the man's audacity. She then noticed the bodyguards looked at her in shock, as if she had said something strange.
The man’s expression remained unchanged. He said, "If you pass on this chance, you will regret it."
Summer was furious. It seemed he did not think he had done anything wrong at all! However, her wooden boat might not bring her back to the mainland either.
As she ground her teeth, she said, "My wish is for you to take me home."
At that moment, she had only one wish. It was to leave this deserted island.
She had too many questions that needed answers, and that required going back to the Steiners, her biological father's family.
Three hours later, the helicopter hovered over Nearon.
"Is that the place?" The man pointed to a estate below.
"Probably." Summer had no memory of her childhood, but she had researched the Steiners before this trip home.
The family estate should have originally been under the Moores. Now, it was her biological father's property, the one who had not looked for her in ten years since she went missing.
Steiner Estate.
The entire estate was decorated for a birthday party.
Janice Steiner, wearing an LV limited edition starlight dress from the Spring collection, was surrounded by a group of socialites who kept heaping praises on her.
"Happy birthday, Jan! Your dress is so beautiful. It's like a galaxy!"
"This is the LV limited edition from the Spring collection, right? I could not even find someone to borrow it from. You actually bought it. Your father is so good to you!"
Janice basked in the attention and hid the pride in her eyes as she said, "Thank you."
Summer might be their father's biological daughter, but after being kidnapped and living in a village, even if she came back, how could she compare to Janice?
"Madam!" At that moment, a servant rushed in and reported, "A helicopter from the Nights has landed on the party lawn."
"The Nights?" Janice's eyes lit up.
Celeste Steiner was also surprised.
The Steiners ran one of the top companies in Nearon as well as being one of the elites in the city.
However, the Nights were considered at the top of the international pyramid. The top five investment banks on Wall Street served them. This was a family that helped give birth to dozens of Silicon Valley elites. Frederick Night was the heir to the Night Group, and the Steiners stood no chance of inviting Frederick to their daughter's birthday party.
"Check it out!" Celeste was curious but mostly delighted at the news.
If their family could connect with the Nights, they would not have to worry about anything for generations.
The duo quickly tidied up their appearance and hurried to the lawn.
A group of Nearon elites had already gathered on the lawn.
As Janice approached, the socialites surrounded her with envy.
"Jan, you actually managed to invite someone from the Nights. That is incredible!"
"You did not even tell me about this. If I had known, I would have hired a professional makeup artist to help me for the evening."
Janice smiled but secretly judged them all with disdain.
Someone from the Nights had come for her. Why would these people need better makeup?
Frederick had to have noticed her at the Night family banquet last month!
She was about to become the esteemed Mrs. Night!
At that moment, the helicopter's door slowly opened.
