Chapter 1 — She Stole My Married Life

~CALISTA
The call I had been waiting for all night since I arrived finally came in.
Tonight was the night of the full moon prayer. I had spent the last hour calling my husband while he declined every single call without any explanation.
Thus, a wide smile spread across my face when he finally did.
"Lucien," I breathed in anticipation as I put the phone to my ear.
But his flat tone told me everything even before he finished.
"I can't come today. The Council called an important meeting concerning the recent rogue attacks," he answered. "So just go home."
I blinked twice as my heart sank.
"Lucien but today is my—" the line went dead.
Nala, my wolf shifted uncomfortably within me as I gritted my teeth.
"He wants me to go home," I mumbled under my breath.
He didn't even let me tell him it was my birthday. All I wanted was at least just one day with Lucien and our little Kane.
Just one day.
"Are you okay, my Luna?" Rosa, my maid, asked.
I turned to the river and saw the way people far along its banks were beginning to set their prayer candles to float.
Tears filled my eyes. Today was supposed to be perfect. The least I could do right now was finish my prayer before going back home.
"Go home, Rosa."
She hesitated for a while but she later gave in and began to walk away. She knew not to protest when I was like this.
I stared up at the moon for a long time and was about to start lighting my candle when a sudden loud screech sliced through the air.
Pack members at the ceremony suddenly broke into frantic runs, shoving past one another in desperation to escape. The shouts crashed into me all at once.
“The borders have been breached!”
“We’re under attack!”
Before I could react, something small landed before me.
I frowned and looked down.
Wolfsbane.
The realization hit me instantly.
Thick fog burst from the small bomb, spreading rapidly through the air. I stumbled backward, waving my hands desperately in front of my face, but it was already too late.
I had inhaled it.
Almost immediately, I felt my wolf weakening inside me.
I ran toward the shelter in blind panic, but the moment I looked around, I saw enormous wolves tearing through pack members from every direction.
The sheer brutality of their attacks left no doubt.
Rogues.
I forced myself to run faster, but every step became harder than the last.
“Nala,” I cried out desperately. “Please answer me. You need to shift.”
I reached for my wolf again, but all I found was silence.
Darkness blurred the edges of my vision.
Then suddenly, a rogue wolf slammed into me at full speed.
Pain exploded through my body as I was thrown sideways into a tree. My back struck the trunk hard enough to force the air from my lungs. Agony shot through my spine and ribs.
Somewhere, I was bleeding badly. I could feel it.
I looked up and saw men shifting from their wolf forms as they stalked toward me, fear wrapped around my throat.
Maybe I was about to die as an unknown Luna.
Suddenly, a series of roars broke out in the air. I recognized them as our pack warriors.
"Shit!" The rogues snarled before turning to flee.
My vision blurred, and before I fell, someone caught me.
"We need to get her to the hospital, now! She's lost too much blood and her leg looks damaged!" One of the healers said.
They put me on a stretcher and started to race away from the wolfbane infested area.
The air was just getting toxic free and I could not hear the ambulance sound when a voice sliced through my core.
"Why is no one attending to my wife? Heal her now!" He roared.
That was Lucien's voice.
How was he here so fast?
The meeting with the council was all the way in the center of town. This river was out in the woods.
So I tried with all my might to lift myself up and I was shocked by what I saw.
There was a woman in his arms, but I could not see her face. She clung to him and he held her like she was the most important thing in the world.
And he looked scared.
In all our eight years of marriage, I had never seen him looking as terrified as this.
Beside him was our son, crying and holding the woman like she meant the world to him.
"Please, save my mommy. She is hurt. . . Help her. . ."
My heart twisted as my eyes went wide.
Why was Lucien holding another woman and why was our son calling her mommy?
"My Alpha, we need to prioritize this woman here. She is more critical," One of the healers said.
The woman suddenly whimpered. "Lucien. . . It hurts, I don't want to die."
And Lucien's expression darkened with anger. "You dare to prioritize another woman over your Luna?"
I almost gasped.
Now I finally understood why he had kept our marriage hidden all these years.
He had never truly wanted me as his Luna.
"Apologies, my Alpha," the healer muttered weakly. "Can you at least share the ride with her?"
But I lifted myself into a sitting position this time. I had heard enough.
"It's fine. Let them have it. I'll wait," My voice came out colder than ice.
Both Lucien and Kane gasped, realising that I was the injured person this entire time.
Now lifted, it was enough for me to see the woman's face clearly.
I recognized her.
Maya Bloom.
Our gardener's daughter.
They had been in love before but his parents forced them apart because Maya's status was too low to be a Luna. He met me afterwards and married me.
And right now, all Lucien could do was stare at me.
After a long pause, his expression hardened and he said. "Maya is hurt, after she's out of danger, I will explain later."
And without sparing me another glance, he carried Maya into the ambulance. Kane looked back at me once— hesitating for the briefest second, before following them without a word.
***
When I woke up alone in the hospital, everyone in the pack was talking about the way the Alpha ran off with Maya, carrying her in his arms like some scene from a romance movie.
I got out of bed and wheeled myself to Maya’s room.
Sure enough, he was there, taking care of her ankle injury.
“Calista’s here too. Aren’t you going to check on her?” Maya asked softly, making my fists clench.
She never wanted him to show me any care.
What she truly enjoyed was watching him push me aside for her every single time.
“Why would I?” Lucien replied. “You’re the one who matters to me, Maya.”
There was no regret in his voice for the way he treated me.
I stood outside the room, watching them through the narrow crack in the door.
“And don’t forget,” Lucien said softly, brushing his thumb across Maya’s hand, “you’re Kane’s real mother.”
Everything inside me stopped.
“There’s nobody more important to me than you,” he continued.
Maya turned her face away with a small pout, and Lucien immediately moved closer to reassure her.
“As if I’d ever choose Calista over you,” he murmured. “I made sure her daughter never got the chance to live so she could raise your son. After everything I’ve done for you, how could you still doubt me?”
The world around me tilted violently.
“You’re my true Luna, Maya. You deserve this life. Not her.”
A ringing filled my ears.
In that moment, the truth ripped through me so brutally that I could barely breathe.
Kane was not my son.
And Lucien...
Lucien had murdered my daughter.
The last eight years of my life shattered beyond repair.

Chapter 2 — I Want A Divorce

~CALISTA
I felt numb. I didn't know how I made it back to my room.
The tears had long stopped flowing from my eyes as I stared into nothingness. I just laid still on the hospital bed, thinking of my child that never was.
The child that never got to live.
I felt my wolf stir with anger as an involuntary shiver ran down my spine. Instant cold scattered across my body and froze my fingers.
I could have let it slide had it merely been cheating on me with Maya and abandoning me. Or listening to Kane calling Maya his mom.
But killing my child?
That was murder.
It was an uncalled behavior for the Alpha of Blackridge Pack. An Alpha capable of killing his own child to please his lover.
It was dangerous to the rest of the pack. How far was he willing to go for her?
He needed to pay and I knew just how to begin my revenge plan.
I released a shaky breath as I felt the rage simmer through my bones. And at that moment, the door came open. Lucien walked in with Kane following closely behind.
Lucien had a bland expression, like he was doing me a favor by merely showing up.
"I came as soon as I could," he paused and looked me over. "You don't look badly hurt. I knew you would be fine on your own."
I scoffed at his words and let out a dry laughter. He could clearly see my bandaged leg.
The doctor had said the wolfbane I inhaled and the one from the bullet had badly affected my system. It messed with my healing abilities and it would take me at least a month before I was fully healed.
Which meant that I would be stuck in a wheelchair or crutches for a month.
But Lucien had the nerves to look me over and say I wasn't badly hurt.
"You should just go back to Maya. I don't need you here," I whispered.
Instead of getting the hint, Lucien took on the defensive side.
"What do you mean by that, Calista?" He demanded. "I couldn't just leave Maya alone. As her Alpha, I am meant to protect her."
"At the cost of your Luna?"
He paused and looked me over as if he was already getting irritated. "I get it. You are jealous I took care of her. There is nothing to be jealous of. Maya is just like a sister to me. Stop overreacting."
"Why are you treating Daddy like this?" Kane suddenly yelled and stomped his feet. "You always boss people around and force people to do things your own way!"
I raised my brows at him. It may seem that the father's disrespectful attitude was already rubbing off on him.
I couldn't blame him.
"You are always forcing me to take those bitter soups and drinks. You should be more like Maya. Daddy is always happy when he's with her and she cooks better than you! I wish she were my mom instead!"
So I slowly sat up. Kane had no idea the herbal juices were for him and his father's weak stomach or the allergies he easily got.
I smiled. None of that really mattered now.
"If both of you so much prefer Maya, then why not make it happen? Let's sever all ties starting today, Lucien. Let's break our union. I want a divorce."
Lucien took a step back as he stared at me with wide eyes. Then he suddenly softened his tone and he came to sit beside me on the bed. He placed his hand in my hair and tapped my head gently.
"Alright, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken Maya to the hospital in your stead. Are you happy now?"
But I looked away. "I have made up my mind. I will not go back on my word."
He was about to protest when his phone suddenly buzzed. He answered on the first ring and since the room was so quiet, I heard Maya's voice on the other end.
"It's hurting again, Lucien. Please, help me," she cried.
"I'll be there now," he muttered before ending the call.
He took Kane's hand, spared me one last glance. "This conversation will be continued later."
Then they walked out without another word.
I released a shaky breath. He could start a million conversations if he wanted. I would never reconsider.
I took out my phone and called a number.
"Dylan. I need your help. I am breaking my sacred bond with Alpha Lucien Blacke. I want a divorce."
“Lady Calista! Is that really you?” Dylan breathed. “After eight years… I never thought I’d hear from you again.”
Dylan was one of the few people I still trusted with my life. He was my loyal assistant and White Guard— the one assigned to protect me for life long before I met Lucien.
And after I met Lucien, my father had warned me not to give up my birthright for love but I had been young, foolish, and certain Lucien would never betray me.
I swallowed hard at the memories. I must have really lost my mind when I used up most of my healing powers to save Lucien all those years ago, turned my back on my Clan and accepted to marry him.
Now all I had as a reward was the ugly scar from saving him, emotional scars and the injury from last night's accident.
"Begin filing for a divorce and come pick me up at the hospital immediately."
"As you wish, my Lady," Dylan answered and the line went dead.
I started to get out of bed. I was done with Lucien and his lies. It made me sick to look at his face.
"My Luna!" A familiar voice cried as the door flung open.
I looked up to see Rosa.
"My Luna!" She cried again, this time in relief as she rushed to me. "I looked everywhere for you. There are even guards situated outside her door now and none are here. I had to search door to door to find you."
I sighed. "I'm leaving, Rosa. You don't have to serve me anymore."
As I said this, I began to help myself to the wheelchair given to me by the hospital. But Rosa came forward.
"I don't know what is going on between you and the Alpha but no matter what happens, you will always be my Luna and I will follow you wherever you go."
The determination in her eyes was hard to ignore. I wanted to insist but I knew nothing I said could change her mind.
So I smiled at her and she adjusted the small bag she wore around her shoulder.
"Fine. Let's go, Rosa."
With that, she began to wheel me out of my room. I was barely a few yards away when a child not older than Kane suddenly collapsed in front of me.
Panic surged through me as I took in her pale form and I instantly felt a connection to her.
She seemed to be having an episode that looked a lot like Kane's yet in a different form.
I instantly picked her up and placed her on the nearest waiting chairs.
"Do you have the Whiteroot with you?" I asked Rosa.
"Yes, my Luna." She reached into her bag and brought it out.
"Get me a glass of water, quickly."
I took the root from her and began to rub it hard against my palms to release its natural essence.
The girl was breathing heavily at this point as her skin turned red but she did not squirm or cry. Kane would have made a huge foss.
"You are very brave, what is your name?" I asked gently.
"Iria," she breathed heavily and whimpered this time.
I felt a pair of long legs behind me and I knew it had to be her guardian without looking.
"I can help her. Don't take her yet," I instructed without thinking too much about it.
Rosa quickly came back with the water and I immersed the root into the water. She started gasping for breath at that point and I sprinkled the water all over her.
"Inhale as much as you can. It will help steady your breathing and stop the inflammation," I explained.
The little girl nodded calmly and did as I instructed.
Slowly, the redness began to die down and her breathing came back to normal.
"You can take her now," I announced to the one behind me.
It was at that moment that he came within my line of sight and I got a good look at his features.
He was tall. His presence carried authority and mystery all at once. His dark hair matched his obsidian eyes, mirroring too many secrets that threatened to destroy me if I stared too long.
And I instantly recognized him.
Alpha Ried Darkfire of the Darkfire pack; present as a legal high ranked Alpha for the Alpha Conclave.
Every year, an Alpha Conclave was held in a specific pack to signify continued allegiances, blessings from the Moon goddess and announcements of great news concerning the growth of all surrounding packs.
This year's Alpha Conclave was been held here, in Blackridge Pack.
There was barely any information on him. Just that he was silently dangerous and he was rumored to have a sickly daughter whom he could tear the world apart for.
Staring at Iria now, I confirmed it.
"Thank you for saving my child, Ms..."
"Luna!" Rosa cut in. "Luna Blacke."
I wanted to correct Rosa. Divorcing Lucien would mean I would seize to be Luna but I stayed quiet.
Alpha Ried's brows rose with understanding. He bowed slightly to me to show his respect.
Then he lifted Iria protectively in his big arms before walking away without another word. I sighed heavily and signaled at Rosa to resume wheeling me out.
By the time we arrived outside, I saw Dylan standing before a black Phantom Rolls Royce, dressed in an all black suit.
"Lady Calista!" He cried in disbelief when he took in my current state. "What happened to you?"
I didn't say a word. Perhaps I deserved it. I should have listened to everyone when they warned me.
He and Rosa helped me into the car while Rosa remained mouth agape at the sight before her.
“Take me to the house my father left me in town,” I said.
The house had been the last thing he’d given me before we parted ways.
Dylan nodded in response and drove in silence. No one spoke again and I was very happy about that.
But as he arrived and parked before the small house, my phone began to ring. It was a strange number.
"Hello?"
"Where are you?" A calm yet deep voice answered back.
As I recognized it, my wolf jumped.
"You are Alpha Ried!" I cried. "How did you get my number?"
"It doesn't matter. Iria had a relapse. You treated her before so I believe you can do it again. Tell us where you are. We are coming to you immediately.”

Chapter 3 — She Needs Me

~LUCIEN
As I led Kane back to Maya's room, I scoffed.
Calista loved me too much to actually divorce me. She couldn't even survive on her own without me.
She had no family or friends to fall back to. She had nowhere to go. She was fully dependent on me.
She was just angry. Once she realised how much she needed me for survival, she would come crawling back into my arms.
My wolf stirred at the thought. I had her completely under my control.
"Daddy, are you and mommy really going to get a divorce?" Kane asked.
I frowned before shaking my head at him.
"But if you and Mommy separate, that means that Maya can be my real mom and we don't need to hide anymore," he continued.
I gritted my teeth. "Stop talking nonsense."
I couldn't have the world finding out now. Especially not my mother. She was the greatest obstacle in our path.
She was the main reason I went through all this trouble in the first place.
"My Alpha!" The guards at the front of Maya's ward announced.
I nodded at them and they all bowed before stepping aside to let me through.
By the time we entered the room, I met Maya laying weakly in bed.
"Mommy!" Kane cried. "Are you okay? Where does it hurt?"
I came to her side and planted a kiss on her forehead. "It's okay. I'm here now. Tell me anything you want and I'll do it for you."
But Maya squinted her nose in disgust. "I hate the hospital. It's irritating. I want to go home."
I sighed and I thought of the rogue attack that coincidentally happened when I lied about it to Calista. None of us saw it coming, that they would plan an attack last night.
And it was likely that they would still make more moves before or on the final day of the Alpha Conclave.
"It's not safe to have you go back to that house. Who knows, the rogues could be lying in wait for you," I muttered.
"So, where will I go?" She cried in worry as she held my hand, clung to it like I was her only source of survival.
Kane gasped. "Bring her home, Daddy. Let her come stay in our house!"
I widened my eyes at his suggestion. It was a risky thing to do because my entire household knew what my Luna truly looked like. And I couldn't have any of them go snitching to my mother.
Yet it was the safest place for her to be. No rogues could dare to attack my house. All the guards would cut them down first before they got close.
"Perhaps Kane is right. I will put you in the North wing of the Pack house Vila. No one ever goes there and only a few maids will be allowed to attend to you. The news won't get out."
Everything seemed perfect in my head. My perfect family was falling into place. I just needed Calista to snap out of her nonsense tantrums and keep playing the stand in Luna for me.
"Let's go home," I whispered. "Can you walk?"
She nodded.
I helped her up and with Kane by her other side, we walked out of the room. My guards followed us quietly, paving the path for us and stopping anyone from obstructing us.
By the time we entered the car, it was just us and my most trusted driver. Maya could speak freely again.
The rest of the guards took the other cars and acted as our escort.
"Lucien?" Maya suddenly called with worry as she looked up at me.
"What is it?"
"What if this makes Calista even angrier? I don't think she will like it if she sees me moving in," Maya whispered.
"Calista can't do a thing. The one we should be worried about is my mother. But if no one talks, then there's nothing to be afraid of."
"What if Calista tells your mother?"
"She wouldn't dare," I stated firmly.
Unless she truly wanted a divorce, she would endure the whole thing.
Within seconds, we arrived at the large Pack House Villa. I led her to the North wing immediately.
"I am starving. Are you starving too?" Maya cried as she rubbed her belly.
"I'll get a maid immediately."
I turned to the nearest guard behind me and he nodded in understanding. Within seconds, he was back with a maid.
"My Alpha," the maid said as she kept her head bowed.
"What would you like to eat, Maya?" I asked her.
Her expression brightened immediately. "I will have chilli oil chicken soup and extra ginger in it please."
I swallowed hard at it. That was the one thing Calista had forbidden both Kane and I from eating. She had claimed that it was bad for both our stomach allergies.
Come to think of it, it felt like ages since I last had a stomach problem or when Kane had an allergic reaction.
Perhaps it had just been Calista's way of asserting control over us as a wife and mother.
"I think I'll have the same too."
"Me three!" Kane cried.
The maid gasped. "I don't think that's a good idea, my Alpha. Luna Calista specifically warned us to keep all spicy and ginger food away from Kane and you!"
"Do you dare to directly defile my order?" I demanded.
The maid jumped in fear before bowing in submission. "As you wish, my Alpha."
"But are you sure you can handle the spice, Kane?" Maya asked.
"Yes, I can! I am a man!" He exclaimed and I liked the determined look on his little face.
The maid hurried away and it took her an entire hour before she was back with the food. It was piping hot and the first taste brought back good old memories. It had been so long since I had this.
"How does it taste, Kane?" Maya asked.
"It's so good!" He cried while breathing heavily, desperate to impress Maya. His cheeks started turning red but he kept eating.
I chuckled at how childish he was while I went back to downing my chilli oil chicken soup.
Thirty minutes later, we had finished our food and I was lounging on the sofa while Maya went to clean up Kane in her chambers. I had a feeling Kane would want to spend the night in the same bed as her too.
They were inseparable.
My phone instantly rang at that time. It was my beta— Cole.
"What do you have for me?" I answered.
"I followed up on the rogues," he began. "You were right, they are planning to interrupt the Alpha Conclave ceremony. They need to be stopped."
"Are all the Alphas already here and assigned secured houses?" I asked instead.
"Yes, a few are already here. Alpha Ried of Darkfire pack, Alpha Desmond of Redmoon pack and Alpha Bastian of Blue Lake pack. I placed them all in the same estate as the Pack House Vila. It is the most secure place."
I nodded slowly. "It's the first time the Conclave is been held in my pack. If it flops, I will look incompetent before the other Alphas. Follow it up—"
I stopped halfway as a sharp pang tore across my stomach. I groaned.
"Lucien? Are you okay?" Cole asked in concern.
"I'm fine. Stay focused on the task at hand," I managed to say through clenched teeth as another pang sliced through my core.
I could not believe it.
My stomach allergies were back.
Could this mean that Calista was right all along?
My entire body went pale as more pains assaulted my core and I was about to cry out for help when Maya suddenly screamed.
I looked up to see her running out of the room with an unconscious Kane in her arms.
"It's Kane, his body suddenly turned red with multiple rashes. He's burning up and now, he won't wake up!"
"Shit!”
