Chapter 1
Svetlana
"I'd like to host a surprise ball for our wedding anniversary at the pack hall." I announced to the elders at the council.
They stared at me intently for a moment. "Only a Luna has the right to do such great duties." One out of the three elders answered and I nodded.
"Yes, I'm familiar with pack rules." I replied with a little bow and they still stared at me, making me confused as to why I wasn't getting the approval I needed.
Alpha Liam and I had been married for five years and for our wedding anniversary this year, I was planning a huge surprise party.
He's been the best thing that happened to me.
Five years ago, I was a rogue, having been raised a rogue all my life, he was the first normal wolf I had an interaction with.
I felt the mate bond for him instantly and even with my identity, he accepted me, vowing to take me to the pack
He announced me as his Luna, damning all the opposition as we got married in the garden and made me Luna even though I was yet to get my wolf.
My life has been nothing but blissful in our years of marriage as he trusted me and overtime I began to handle work at the pack company.
But I don't understand why the elders refused, simply because I was exercising my right as Luna.
"You're not the Luna, your request can't be processed, the Luna has to come herself." They replied, making me more confused.
"I am the Luna… Alpha Liam and I have been married for five years…" I replied calmly and one of the elders frowned
"A rogue dares to call herself Alpha Liam's Luna? You are unmarked and carry no trace of the Alpha's scent. Our Luna has always been Sophie."
I burst into laughter, they glared at me, undaunted and it made me uneasy.
This was a joke, was Liam behind this? Was he trying to fool me?
"Sophie can't be the Luna… She's his adopted sister, she…"
I was perplexed, although I knew Sophie had liked Liam, I knew it wouldn't grow into anything.
They were family, had grown up together and if uninformed, she would pass for his sister. Sophie had been out of the pack for more than 3 years, there's no way she can be Luna…
She knows Liam and I are married, their closeness is only because they grew up together.
"If you need more answers, direct them to the alpha…"
My legs trembled as I walked out of the pack hall, every step sent tremors through my body. It was overwhelming and still difficult to believe.
I was trying very hard to prove to myself that it was unrealistic. I managed to reach the door after an eternity and I shut my eyes as I let the news sink in properly.
My phone buzzed and I picked it up.
It was the pack's news, Sophie was back… She was at the airport, being received by Liam who had the brightest smile on his face.
They hugged each other, remaining in each other's arms for almost a minute, it wasn't normal.
Were the elders correct? Was Sophie really the Luna? Beside her was a little boy. I frowned, Sophie wouldn't have given birth and gotten married without a party, she was Liam's sister and he would definitely hold a grand ceremony for her marriage.
The reporters pushed their mic forward, throwing questions about her personal life and what she had done in her 3 years of absence from the pack.
"Yes, this is my son. I'm married to an alpha and I'll be announcing who my husband is soon." She declared as she walked away and the phone slipped out of my hand.
Her son? That little boy looked exactly like Liam, as if they had been carved from the same mold.
Suddenly, I realized the pack elders had been telling the truth. Sophie really was the Luna of the pack. She had even given Liam an heir.
And me?
After five years of marriage, I still struggled to conceive.
The realization made me let out a bitter laugh.
All my time and effort had meant nothing.
All the times I would head to the border at a crucial time to prepare food for the guards, all the trips I made weekly in and outside the pack, trying to secure as many investors as possible for the company.
The parties I had been so engrossed in planning that I never got to attend myself. I was their maid, my only job was to clean up their mess.
Liam never loved me, he saw me as a tool that could be milked and foolishly in my bid to have the family I never had, I let myself get used.
My thoughts were interrupted by a call. I ignored it, slowly wiping my tears but he persisted, making me furious as I answered the call.
“Calling someone over and over again is really rude. You better have something important to say, otherwise stop bothering me.”
"Sister…" it was a thick masculine voice and I frowned.
"Who are you calling sister…" I snapped, anger rising in my voice.
"I know it's shocking but you're my sister, we've searched for you all our lives and I'm still in shock as to how the doctor managed to get you." He explained, throwing me into further confusion.
"I think you've got the wrong person. I was a rogue, that I had no family!" Angrily, I was about to hang up the call.
"You were never a rogue, Svetlana," he whispered. "You are the lost princess of the Ravenclaw pack."
Chapter 2
Svetlana
The Ravenclaw pack was the second most successful and powerful pack, known for their mighty warriors and great inventions.
How could I possibly be the lost princess of the Ravenclaw Pack?
I was certain they had made a mistake, yet the man continued, his tone unwavering, "Svetlana. You have a scar on your neck and you might've lost this but there's a family heirloom with a picture of you as a baby inside its locket."
My hand instinctively moved to the locket as my fingers began to tremble.
This was the only thing I had of my family and I cherished it to death, it was from the locket I knew my name.
It was true, I… I had a brother and a family, I wasn't a rogue, I've got an identity. My emotions were still everywhere.
The thought of my parents being exceptionally great people was news that overrode every disappointment I received today.
"Return to the pack, mom and dad, they miss you… We all do… You were betrothed to Grand King Kael, he's still waiting for your return, come home." He whispered and I paused for a moment.
"What if I'm married?" I asked calmly.
"Do not bother returning, it would break mom to see you've done everything without her… you were always her little princess who needed her. It's best that nobody knows." He sounded and I sighed.
"I need some time to think about it, I'll contact you soon." I whispered, still in disbelief about everything that happened today.
Barely moments after I dropped the phone, another call came through, it was from the clinic.
I had always wanted to give Liam a pup of our own, but after five years, I still hadn't succeeded. So last week, I went for a checkup. Best case scenario? I might finally be pregnant. Then I could give Liam the perfect anniversary surprise.
"Luna… your test results are out. You need to come to the clinic," the doctor said, making my stomach twist into knots.
"On my way," I replied, my heart pounding wildly. Would it be negative or positive?
Would I finally be able to give Liam the child he had always wanted? Would this become the perfect anniversary surprise for him?
If I really was carrying Liam's child, would he finally acknowledge me as his Luna again and mark me before the entire pack?
Despite everything, a small part of me still clung to hope. I pictured Liam and me at the party, huge grins on our faces as we made the announcement. Perhaps after having the child, his love for me would increase and his mother would accept me now.
It would be a dream come true. I killed my engine immediately when I drove in. I rushed out of the car, my steps faltering as I cautioned myself to be careful since there was a possibility I was with child.
"Good day, doctor." I whispered, a large smile on my face. She inhaled softly as she passed the note to me.
My smile disappeared as I opened the paper with shaky hands, everything inside of me wishing the result would be possible.
A tear rolled down my cheek the moment the negative flashed before my eyes, my vision blurred as my hands trembled while I just stared at the paper, unable to react or do a thing.
It fell to my sides but I didn't pick it up, I stared into space, the image of me and Liam announcing the gods news erased in my head.
I was numb. She sighed softly as she passed a tissue. "That's not all Luna." She mumbled.
"We've noticed a high intake of progestins, it's been in your body for years and not only has it blocked your estrus permanently, making it impossible for you to conceive in the future, it's been suppressing your wolf… Only the goddess knows if you'll ever be able to get your wolf." She announced, her words like bells in my ears.
I blinked rapidly, shaking my head because I knew she was mistaken. "That… That's impossible." I stammered, letting out a weak laugh that cut through my heart.
Disbelief settled heavily in my chest. This couldn’t be real. There had to be some mistake. Maybe Liam had planned all of this and would step out at any moment, telling me it was some ridiculous joke.
“I’m really sorry I have to tell you this, Luna,” she whispered.
I straightened instinctively, my fingers curling into my palms. “No,” I said firmly, shaking my head. "I've never taken any drug that wasn't prescribed my whole life. That doesn’t make sense."
"It's in this, Luna. This might be designed like a multivitamin but it's a contraceptive." She announced, dangling a bottle.
It was the vitamin Liam had gotten me, talking about how it helps increase fertility and a lady's health.
My body trembled, I was piecing two and two together but it was still hard to accept it. Maybe there was a misunderstanding, maybe it's false? Maybe I'm the one who's going crazy.
There's no way the man who promised me forever would be behind my sabotage. It's best I talk to Liam and listen to him then jump into conclusion.
He would never do such to me.
I refused to believe that our five years together had all been a lie. I had to ask Liam face to face.
I stopped at the pack house. I was at the entrance of the house when I heard Liam and Maria, his mom.
"When are you ending things with Svetlana? You need to do it fast, your father wants you to appear before the grand king, there's no way you can go to him with that rogue." Maria ordered and I paused.
Rogue? They still didn't know that I was the lost princess of the Ravenclaw Pack. If they found out the truth, would they still think of me this way?
"I'm working on it, mom. I've gotten an apartment for her, I'm preparing a settlement and drafting up a contract for the amount she would receive monthly for the rest of her life." Liam replied and I almost choked on a sob.
Hearing such from him was a jab in my heart. "You don't owe her anything, living in this pack for five years when she was nothing but a rogue feeding on scraps is more than enough favor.
Give her a one time settlement and make sure she doesn't cause any trouble in the pack, the grand king would disregard you if he finds out you have a mistress." She announced and I scoffed.
I was being referred to as the mistress… The grand king? Kael? My soon to be husband, what a world we live in.
"Mom…"I heard my mate trying to say something more.
"Enough, I don't want to hear a thing about the rogue, I'm glad you marked Sophie and made her your Luna.
I raised her perfectly for this position, she's trained all her life for this and she would appear before everyone with dignity and honor, that rogue would always have that crazy scent, iIt's a good thing you suppressed her wolf and drugged her to prevent pregnancy. A rogue like her doesn't deserve to carry an Alpha's child."My fingers dug into my palms.
So Liam had never loved me from the very beginning. I was never the pack's Luna. And even more laughable, he had personally drugged me to prevent me from carrying his child.
How ridiculous. All those years of devotion had been nothing but a joke.
Thankfully, I had finally found my biological parents. I supposed there was no need to tell them about my background anymore.
Maybe Liam had deceived me all these years for a reason. Maybe, in some twisted way, it was for the best.
But my hard work wasn't going to go to waste, I'd destroy everything that was built by me, all the deals that I closed and the packs I convinced to invest with us, I would sever those ties and leave his life the way I met it and as for Sophie… She would be buried in my shadows this time.
"Svetlana… Are you eavesdropping?" Sophie suddenly appeared behind me and I tried not to jump out of fright as I turned around slowly, forcing a smile to my lips.
Chapter 3
Svetlana
Her smile was fake, her eyes bore hatred and disdain. Liam walked to the door, his face slightly pale as our eyes met.
"Lana… How long have you been at the door?" He demanded and I smiled. "Less than a second." I replied.
"It's rude to eavesdrop on people, you need more training, Svetlana, being a rogue doesn't justify having a nasty attitude." Maria insulted and I nodded.
"Take a look at Sophie, she was raised properly and she has always carried herself around with grace…"
"Welcome back Sophie… I saw the big announcement, who is the lucky alpha?" I demanded and something flashed across her face for a moment while Liam had a panicked expression.
"You don't know him… He's a great alpha." She said, blushing as she lowered her head.
"Wow… if he's as great as you say, surely I must know him and if my memory serves me right, the only alpha that's unmarried is the grand king Kael. Is he your husband? Were you married to him when you left the pack?" I inquired and her face turned red.
Maria scoffed. "Enough, do not question Sophie unnecessarily."
"I was only having a conversation with my husband's sister, we're basically family and as the Luna of the pack, it's my duty to know the wellbeing of my members." I made emphasis on Luna, making Sophie cringe.
"Sophie and Liam would be busy preparing to meet the grand alpha over the next few days, give them space and do not bother them." Maria ordered and I wanted to burst into laughter.
It felt like she was instructing me to let them have a honeymoon here. How could she be so shameless?
"Why? Shouldn't the Luna be with her alpha? Certainly you should also be with yours, Sophie." I muttered with a sweet smile.
Watching them squirm and cringe when I said the right words was heaven.
"The pack wants to form stronger alliances now, we want to partner with the grand king and the alpha of the Ravenclaw pack, these are decent packs who have no need for a rogue, Sophie is the best option…"
Ravenclaw pack? The same pack my brother spoke about? For as long as I live, goddess knows they would never get it.
I smiled, shrugging my shoulders. "I've closed hundreds of deals worth millions, how come Sophie who has done nothing but raise a child secretly is now the best option? Aren't you being a little partial, mom?" I asked with a calm smile and Maria's eyes flickered red with rage as her claws began to appear.
Liam grabbed my hand, pulling me away as he pressed a kiss to my forehead. "You've always wanted to stay at home and take care of the family, you can do that now before the arrival of our kids." He suggested, placing his hand on my tummy while fully being aware he had dashed away all my chances of ever being a mother.
Sophie's son ran into the house at that moment, hugging Liam's leg tightly. "Dad.. I want more snacks." He cried out, he was a chubby little boy, he looked 6 due to how big he was.
"A*n, he addresses you as daddy, I guess he should address me too as mom, since I'm your Luna." I replied and Sophie had a stunned expression while Maria gritted her teeth.
"No! You're the witch who always keeps daddy occupied." He retorted
"Ignore him, kids are funny." Liam bashed it off with a smile, his gaze softening before he looked away.
"Why does he look so much like you? We should do a DNA test." I announced and Liam's eyes almost popped out with mortification.
"Svetlana, do not be unreasonable, Sophie is his sister and a member of this family!" Maria snapped while Liam avoided my gaze as I watched him.
"Don't get crazy ideas, Lana, Sophie is family, we need to head to the company to take care of a few things, I'll be home for dinner." With a brush of his lips against my cheeks, he dashed out.
He didn't refute the claims or accept them. With a bitter smile, I turned around, stepping outside as I called my brother.
"Tell mom and dad their little princess is returning home, I need a week to finalize everything, I'll get married to the king." I whispered, tears brimming and he agreed.
