Chapter 1 — The Mad Alpha's Daughter

Today is my eighteenth birthday, but I didn’t get a cake or presents. Just aching feet and blistered hands while the Lake Moon Pack celebrated their future Alpha.
The Alpha’s son, Kian, takes over as Alpha tomorrow. He completed his Alpha training, and everyone decided to start celebrating early.
So little old me is their servant, with only one omega to help me.
Everyone in Lake Moon knows exactly who I am.
Nara Adalwolf.
Daughter of the Mad Alpha.
That’s all anyone sees when they look at me.
They don’t see the frightened little girl they pulled from the ruins of her home. They don’t see the child who lost everything in a single night.
I am treated like trash because of my father, Josiah Adalwolf.
Years ago, he launched a brutal war against the packs. By the time it ended, countless wolves were dead.
They brought me here, not out of kindness, but as punishment. Since then, I’ve scrubbed floors, served meals, and carried the weight of crimes I never committed.
Sometimes I still remember my mother’s laugh echoing through our home or the way my father would lift me onto his shoulders after training, telling me that one day I’d make a wonderful Luna. Those memories are all I have left of them.
I know the whole world remembers my father as a monster, but he wasn’t always that man to me.
He was simply… Dad.
I blink away the sting in my eyes. Crying doesn't solve anything.
I glance at the clock and realize I should go back to bed. I want to squeeze in some sleep while everyone's drunk and not paying attention, but I'm starving, so I head to the kitchen for some food. I'm only allowed one meal a day, even though the Lake Moon pack is the wealthiest pack, but they hate me so much that they wouldn't even let me eat three meals.
I make myself a sandwich, nothing special. Butter and bread. But my stomach twists with relief because it is the first thing I’ve eaten since yesterday.
"Oh, Trisha, did you see Kian? He's so handsome. I couldn't stop blushing." I know that annoying voice. It belongs to Lang, one of my top bullies.
"I know, I'm still hot from when he winked at me after he arrived," the Gamma's daughter, Trisha, purrs. I hide behind the kitchen island, hoping they won't notice me. The cousins bully me more than the others.
Kian and Trisha dated in high school, but he ended it after he left for advanced alpha training. She was heartbroken and hated him, but in his presence, she seemed to have forgotten all about it.
I feel someone yanking me up by my hair, and I groan in pain.
Trisha smirks. "I thought I sensed insignificance in here," she sneers, glaring at me. Trisha is blonde and tan and always wears shimmery pink lipstick, while Lang is the opposite. Both gorgeous. I try to walk past them, but Lang yanks me back, and I hit my back against the island, making me wince.
"What are you doing here? You should be serving, not eating, you fatty," Lang hisses, throwing my sandwich to the floor. I'm not fat; in fact, I'm leaner than she is.
"I was just leaving," I grit out quietly, glaring at the two girls. Trisha slaps me suddenly,
"How dare you glare at me, Nara!" I keep my hands in a fist, holding myself from punching her plastic face because only I will be punished if I retaliate, and sleeping on the disgusting dungeon floors is not in my plan today.
"Get out, I don't want to see you," Lang orders. Her order doesn't faze me or make my wolf flinch. She's a gamma in rank, while I'm Alpha by blood, but these bitches seemed to lose their memories on that particular information.
I’m about to leave when Karl walks into the kitchen and my stomach drops.
The second Karl steps into the kitchen, my body reacts before my mind does. My shoulders tense, and my wolf growls.
Karl is one of the warriors in Lake Moon. Strong, respected, and protected. The kind of person who knows no one will believe a servant like me.
A slow smile spreads across his face as his eyes travel over me.
“Well, look who’s hiding in the kitchen.”
I step back immediately.
“Don’t start, Karl.”
His smile widens. “Still with the attitude, sweet Nara?”
I hate that nickname. The way he says it makes my skin crawl.
I move toward the exit, but Lang steps in front of me, blocking my path.
“Where are you going?” she asks, pretending innocence. “We were just having fun.”
I glare at her, big mistake. Her expression darkens.
“Careful. You forget your place.”
Before I can answer, Karl grabs my arm and my entire body stiffens.
“Let go of me.”
Instead of listening, he pulls me closer.
The familiar disgust rises in my chest. The same disgust I feel every time someone touches me like I’m an object instead of a person.
“Don’t act like you hate the attention,” he whispers. My wolf snarls inside me.
I could hurt him and I know I could.
I’m an Alpha by blood. My wolf is stronger than theirs. But that doesn’t matter here. Because if I fight back, they won’t see a girl defending herself.
They’ll see the Mad Alpha’s daughter proving them right. So I endure the insults, hunger and bruises.
Because surviving is the only revenge I have.
“Don’t touch me,” I growl.
Karl laughs.
“Still pretending you’re better than us? You’re nothing but a murderer’s daughter.”
The words hit harder than his hands ever could.
The mad alpha'daughter, That's all I am to them.
Trisha folds her arms, smiling.
“Imagine if she really is like her father. Maybe one day she’ll wake up and decide to kill us all.”
The others laugh, and something inside me snaps.
Not my wolf but me.I shove Karl away with all my strength and he stumbles back, surprised.
“Don’t ever touch me again.”
The room goes silent and then his face twists into anger.
“You little-”
He moves toward me, but I’m faster and I swing. My fist connects with his jaw. The satisfaction lasts only a second because then everyone moves and hands grab me.
Lang pulls my hair and a kick lands against my ribs, I fall to the floor, covering my head as the pain spreads through my body.
I hear their voices above me. “Crazy, just like her father.”
“Monster.”
“Murderer’s daughter.”
I close my eyes and refuse to cry. I refuse to give them that.
“What the hell are you doing?” The voice cuts through the room is deep and commanding, everuns freezes.
Slowly, I lift my head and my heart stops. Kian Karson.
The boy who used to sneak food into my hands, and sat beside me when no one else would. The boy who promised me I would never be alone until he walked away and looked at me like I was a stranger.
He stands taller, stronger, and looking like the alpha he is.
But those eyes, those eyes meet mine and everything changes. My breath catches, and a warmth spreads through my body, so powerful that my pain disappears for a moment.
My wolf goes completely still and then she whimpers.
'Mate.' The word echoes inside my mind.
My heart pounds painfully. Not him, not him. The person who left me. My knees weaken before I can stop myself. I try to stand, but I buckle and before I can fall again, strong arms catch me. His arms.
Kian’s.
The moment he touches me, the tingles burns through me, confirming what my wolf already knows. I look up at him and for the first time, I see something I never expected.
Kian isn’t looking at me like he just found his mate. He’s looking at me like he’s been waiting for this moment for years. Because he already knew.

Chapter 2 — My Mate

Kian's pov
I was anxious to be home. I hadn't been here for a whole year because it was my last year at Alpha Training Academy, where we were trained to be the strongest and best Alphas. I wanted to lock in and give it my all, and I did. I became the best of the best, and now, there was a possibility that I would be Alpha supreme.
"Your son was the most advanced student of mine, Kebby. Congratulations," my instructor, Merek, tells my father. My mother's eyes shine with happy tears.
"It isn't a surprise, after all. He's the only alpha in the whole realm to shift into his wolf at the young age of ten," Dad boasts, clapping my shoulder.
When I go to the packhouse. There is a party in my honor. The she-wolves keep throwing themselves at me, and the males keep offering me drinks.
I want to go to my suite and pass out. But I keep being dragged into a conversation. I catch sight of my best friend and beta, Max. He is chatting up a few women. He is the biggest playboy I know. I approach him, and the number of women doubles.
"We have a meeting early in the morning with the outgoing officials. We should retire for bed."
"C'mon, man, don't leave, and let's enjoy ourselves. You look stiff," he slurs his words, cupping my face.
A she-wolf wraps her arms around me, but I move away, not wanting to be touched. I ignore Max and go inside.
A familiar scent of roses catches my nose. I stiffen, recognizing it. It belongs to Nara. She is the reason I stayed away from the pack.
I discovered she was my mate when I turned eighteen three years ago.
However, she had not yet turned eighteen, so she didn't feel the bond, but I did. It was fucking strong enough to mess me up. Each time I saw her, I wanted to hold her and kiss her. I wanted to be buried inside me and scream to everyone she was my mate. But I couldn't do that. Accepting the mad Alpha's daughter as my mate and Luna would cause chaos in the pack.
I saw Nara in the lounge area earlier today. She hasn't changed much, except that her black hair is longer, her heart-shaped face is slimmer, and she's ... stunning.
I was stalking her as she worked, but I didn't have the bravado to speak to her because she hated me.
Once upon a time, she was my friend, but we were younger. When she came to this pack, I was her protector because she couldn't defend herself. I didn't believe in punishing children for their parents' sins.
She smiled more and started fighting back against her bullies. I even gave her a nickname, little butterfly. Nara stopped attempting to escape the Lake Moon pack. She even stopped crying for her parents and her cat that died in the attack. But years into our friendship, my father ordered me to end it.
However, I couldn't stay away from her, so I became rude to her. It would be way easier if she were the one to stay away.
I became the person I hated most. The person who made her look at me with fear instead of trust.
Every cruel word I said destroyed a little piece of the friendship we had built.
But I told myself it was necessary. It sucked, but I had to put the pack's needs before our friendship. Nara resented me, but I didn't mind, as long as I'd be Alpha Supreme and protect all the packs better.
I ignore the intoxicating scent and continue walking upstairs, but I hear a commotion in the kitchen, so I detour to check what's happening. What I see makes me go crazy. Trisha, Lang, and that fucker Karl are beating someone. My mate! My wolf goes wild and growls, making them stop.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" My body is shaking with rage, my eyes glowing. I want to roar, to order them to get the fuck away from my mate. But I couldn’t say anything.
Claiming Nara Adalwolf as my mate would change everything. The pack would question me. The factions would see my choice as weakness.
They would never see the girl I knew. They would only see the bloodline she carried.
And I wasn’t willing to gamble with our future, so I stayed away.
'But she's our mate! The most important person to us!' my wolf roars.
Even as Trisha is saying all her stupid excuses, I'm still seeing red. Nara tries to get up from the floor, covered in injuries, but she stumbles, and I find myself holding her before she falls to the ground.
She lifts her gaze to look at me, and time stops.
Her beautiful hazel eyes are wide with surprise as she sees me holding her. Her lips part, and for a second, I think she understands. I think she knows.
Then her eyes roll back, and she collapses in my arms.
I carry her, taking her to the pack infirmary, but stop in my tracks. I look back at the three morons who were hitting her. "I'll deal with you later," I growl and run to the cliniChapter
"Here, Alpha. Please put her on the stretcher," The nurse instructs. I do as she says, and two nurses, male and female, take her away in a hurry.
"What happened?" Dr. Guy asks. He has been the pack doctor for years and was damn good at his job.
"They were hitting her, and she fainted in my arms," I explain. There is a tremble in my voice.
"I'll treat her and run tests. Don't worry, Alpha, you can go home to rest. I know you had a long day," he says, but I shake my head. I won't leave. I want to ensure she is treated. In the past, the nurses refused to offer their services to her until I threatened them, who knows what might happen if I leave her alone.
"I'll wait." The tone of my voice tells him not to argue. He nods and goes into the room where they took Nara. I sit on the couch in the hallway, running a hand through my hair.
"Nara isn't allowed to get treated here, you know that, right?" the most irritating shrieking voice says. I glare at her. She looks smug. "She's a bitch who doesn't-" I don't let her finish her words. I have her in a chokehold. I lean closer to her ear.
"Listen to me and listen carefully, Trisha. Next time you lay a finger on Nara, that's the day you die, and if you're lucky, the day you are banished from my pack, am I clear?" I asked. She is struggling and crying, but I don't release her. She nods frantically, and that is when I let her fall to the ground.
"Kian, why would you attack a pack member for that girl? Who is she to you?" A fierce voice booms.

Chapter 3 — He's My Mate

Nara's pov
That cedarwood scent- I know it. It is familiar to me. I sniff again, he is here. I'd recognize it anywhere. It is the scent I once loved and now hate most in the world. It belongs to the boy who broke my heart. Kian. My eyes flutter open, and the first thing that shot through was pain. It hurts everywhere, and my head throbs. What is causing this? Then I remember what happened earlier in the kitchen. Trisha, Lang, and Karl were beating me, and Kian showed up.
I sit up abruptly and wince in pain, shocked. Kian saved me.
"How do you feel?" A deep, alluring voice asks, and I freeze; then my heart lurches. I see him standing across the room, arm crossed, face void of emotion. I'd been dreading seeing him.
Tall and incredibly handsome with an athletic build. His hair is short, buzz-cut.
However, what shocks me is the bond that forms in place as our gazes lock. Kian Karson is my mate. My heart is drumming loudly, I can hear it in my ears.
"Mate," I whisper. I can feel myself pale at the realization.
He stalks closer to me and sits at the edge of the bed, looking unaffected by my words.
"How do you feel?" he asks again. How can he be concerned about how I feel when my life has just done a 180? I have a mate, and it's him. My best friend, who turned out to be my hater.
“How long have you known?” I ask, staring into his grey-blue eyes.
“Three years.”
My heart stops. Three years. Three years of him knowing I was his mate while I hated myself for wondering why my best friend abandoned me.
“You should have told me.”
His jaw tightens, but his expression remains cold.
“What would you have done?”
The question hurts more than I expect.
“I don’t know.”
Because I don’t. I don’t know what I would have done if Kian had told me the truth. Maybe I would have forgiven him. Maybe I would have run to him.
Maybe I would have chosen him.
And the fact that he still doesn’t seem to want that answer breaks something inside me.
The bond between us, I can feel it, so magnetic, taking me to him. My body pains and my throbbing headache have all gone away just being in his presence.
His phone rings, and he gets it. I can hear a woman's voice on the other end, calling him baby, and my heart breaks.
His eyes flicker to me for the briefest second and something unreadable crosses his face. Then it disappears.
“I have to take this.” With that, he leaves.
Kian didn't come back to my room that night, and when I woke up in the morning, I rushed out to prepare breakfast for everyone. Despite feeling like shit, I prepared all the meals and cleaned the house spotless, with the omegas Luna Tina had assigned me.
After doing my duties, I went to the old garage, which had been converted into a bedroom, since there was no space for me in their fancy packhouse, even though it was a four-story Victorian mansion.
Everyone in the pack was required to attend Kian's swearing-in ceremony, so I used the common bathrooms on the first floor to bathe and wore a mini ruffled- hem dress. It was a dress no one wanted after the pack designers brought in racks and racks for all the ladies to choose from.
I left the garage and went out to the party, where everyone was. The Luna had hired a catering company to serve the party tonight, so I was here as a member, even though I was officially one, since I was never initiated.
I was standing in the corner alone, with a lemonade in hand, while my eyes roved the garden. I wanted to see Kian. We haven't spoken since the clinic, and I need to know the way forward. I'm about to go look for him when Ciera approaches me. She is an omega and one of the five people in this pack who are nice to me. She is a pretty girl with purple bangs, green eyes, and a lovely face.
We go to the same high school, but she hangs out with other people and rarely speaks to me. I, on the other hand, am a loner.
"Hi, good to see you here," she smiles, and I nod in acknowledgment. Ciera starts talking about school, but I don't know half the people she mentions.
"Look who had the guts to come here," I hear Trisha's annoying voice, and I don't hold back my groan. I swear this girl gets off on bullying me.
"Trash, I mean Trisha," I bite out with a sarcastic smile, and she gasps. Lang's mouth hangs open, and Ciera ditches me. No surprise.
"How dare you, Nara!" She raises her hand to slap me, but stops, as if remembering something. She backs away, only pinning me with a glare.
"Trisha, is she causing you trouble?" The Gamma's deep voice startles me, and Trisha goes to her father and hugs him.
"Daddy, this girl called me trash. She bullies me," she cries, and I roll my eyes. The Gamma glares at me with so much hate. This man has always hated me since the day I was brought here. After I was found, he suggested to Alpha Kebby that I should be killed because I might become like my father in the future.
"You little dirt of the earth, how dare you bully my daughter?" he growls, eyes menacing, if he could kill me, he would without hesitation. A long time ago, I'd shrink after every disdainful stare and tell them Please don't treat me like this, I'm not my father, but now, I've gotten used to the hatred.
"I didn't bully her, Gamma. She's the one bullying me, but you should know that because you watched her bully me for years and you've never once scolded her," I spat. I can feel anger coursing through me. He approaches me, and fear creeps through me.
"How dare you speak back at me? You are dirt like your parents; you have no right," he backhands me, and I feel my lip split, blood licking.
"Good, uncle," Lang praises. I glare at the gamma, my body shaking and my eyes stinging with unshed tears. Don't cry, don't cry, Nara.
The Gamma is about to say something when he suddenly freezes, and his eyes glaze over. Someone is mind-linking him.
"Watch yourself, Nara," he warns and leaves with his daughter, but Lang pours alcohol all over my dress before joining them.
I feel the tears I was holding flow down my cheeks. I can't be here anymore. I wish I could leave the pack, but once patrol spots me trying to escape, they'll kill me. It was an order from the Alpha. I hate my life, but I don't want to die.
After going back to my room, I changed my clothes and took another shower to wipe away the alcohol on my skin. I sleep on the most uncomfortable bed ever, so I prefer sleeping on the floor.
I take down the air mattress and get ready for bed. However, I'm awakened when I feel someone in the room. I jerk up, fear gripping me, but I immediately calm down when I see Kian.
"Nara, I- I was looking for you. Where d- did you go?" he asks. He's drunk and can't even talk or walk right.
"You are drunk. What are you doing here?" I ask, helping him balance.
“I missed you, little butterfly.”
His voice cracks, and for the first time, I see something other than the cold Alpha.
I see the boy who used to find me when I was crying, thr boy who gave me my bracelet. The boy who left.
He grips my waist and pulls me to him,
"Nara."
"What?" My voice comes out as a soft whisper.
My heart is racing.
"I love your eyes. They are large and pretty like a deer's," he says, and then his fingers touch my throat. I always wear an emerald necklace that my father gave me when I was a baby. I'd never taken it off. Once, Trisha ripped it off me and ran away with it. I cried for two days straight. It was Kian who got it back.
"I remember this," he says. We are standing so close, too close. Then he touches my wrist, looking pleased when he sees the bracelet he gave me. The bracelet is made of many small emerald butterflies. "You also have this," he smiles, and my heart skipped a bit. Kian is the most beautiful man out there, and his smile does something in me.
"I missed you, little butterfly. I miss you every day... Until I sleep," he whispers and crashes his lips on me. I don't resist and kiss him back with the same passion he's kissing me. He pushes me against the wall, ravishing my neck. His fingers are under my blouse, touching my breasts and nipples. I’m making embarrassingly desperate noises.
"Wait, wait," I pull away to look at him. We are both panting heavily, our eyes dark with lust. "Kian, you and I need to talk about our bond and all," I say, breathless.
"Later, please," he begs and kisses me again. I see stars, and his scent takes over all my senses. Kian is heaven. I savor his taste as he does mine. Our tongues dance together, fighting for dominance until he wins.
He pushes me into the air mattress and slides his body onto me, kissing my throat.
" I want you."
