Chapter 1 — Five Years Of Lies

Janet's POV
Had it been five years already?
Just like that?
As the Luna of Michael Peterson, the Alpha of the Peterson Pack, I wrapped up my duties for the pack’s business in Northfield ahead of schedule.
I caught the first flight back to Eastfield, eager to surprise my destined mate and husband.
To celebrate our upcoming fifth anniversary the following month, I booked a special commemorative photo shoot to recreate our mating ceremony portraits.
The studio asked for our official pack registry and marriage license but I couldn’t find the documents anywhere.
I rushed to the Lycan Registry to request a replacement.
The clerk behind the counter looked up with her expression puzzled.
"Ms. Robinson, our records show you're still single. And you aren't registered to the Peterson pack either."
"That's impossible," I blurted out, my inner wolf pacing anxiously. "My husband and I have been legally for five years."
As the Alpha, my husband was believed to be gracious and breathtakingly handsome. Someone utterly devoted to his mate.
Five years ago, during a brutal rogue attack against him, I saved his life purely by chance and took him to safety.
We fell in love, or so I thought.
Not long after, we exchanged vows and he marked me.
We kept our marriage low-key to protect me from rival pack politics.
But how could the licenses, the rings and the years of shared life all be fake?
Why wasn't our union registered?
The clerk gave me a skeptical look. "Your marital status says single. Ms. Robinson, are you sure you're not mistaken?"
On the screen, the 'Marital Status' clearly read 'Single'.
For a long moment, my thoughts scattered while my wolf whined in deep confusion.
What the hell?
If Michael and I weren't legally mated in the eyes of the Lycan law, what did the last five years even mean?
My phone chimed sharply and a notification lit up my phone, it was a celebrity gossip alert.
"Tiana Anderson Returns to Eastfield, Spotted With Alpha Michael Peterson. Hints at Secret Mating Rites and A Heir in Interview."
Tiana?
I froze.
Tiana Peterson, the former adopted daughter of the Peterson Pack?
At eighteen, Tiana was reclaimed by her biological parents, the alpha and Luna of the powerful Anderson Pack.
She moved back to the Northfield territory with them and changed her name to Tiana Anderson to solidify her inheritance.
When did she come back?
A chill crept up my spine, freezing the blood in my veins as I tapped the photo.
The image showed Tiana standing on her toes, laughing as she tugged playfully at a man's tie with her eyes bright.
The man's face wasn't fully visible but I recognized the tie instantly.
I had it custom-woven for Michael just last month. It was one of a kind in all of Eastfield.
Mu chest tightened as I scrolled to the video interview below.
Tiana sat down, polished in a tailored cream suit with a massive diamond glittering on her ring finger.
She smiled coyly at the camera, her eyes flashing a brief, dominant amber.
"I've actually been keeping a secret for years," she said. "I've been mated to the love of my life, an Alpha, for a long time now. And we already have a pup."
The host gasped. "Who's the lucky man?"
"I can't say just yet." Tiana replied with a playful wink. "But my mate and I have known each other since we were pups in the same nursery. Honestly, I can't imagine being bound to anyone else."
As the host gushed with congratulations, my gaze locked onto the ring on Tiana's finger.
A wave of profound numbness washed over me.
It was identical to mine.
The only difference was that Tiana's diamond was slightly larger, thicker and more brilliant.
A coincidence?
I clenched my fist, but my gut rejected the thought instantly.
When Michael proposed, he told me the ring was a custom heirloom, forged by the pack's finest goldsmith.
One of a kind. No other like it in the world, Janet.
And now, here it was, gleaming on Tiana's finger.
---
Taking a shaky breath, I decided to confront him.
I heard the pack omegas mentioned that he was at a private Lycan club downtown.
Slipping through toward the VIP lounge, the door was slightly ajar.
A man's voice drifted out into the hallway.
"Michael, now that Tiana's back, when are you going to tell Janet that the mating certificate and the marking were never real?"
I froze in the hallway, my breath catching in my throat.
So it was true.
The mating rites was a lie.
Through the crack in the door, I saw Michael swirl his glass calmly.
"Not yet. Grandpa didn't want Tiana to be my Luna as it would look like incest and bad for the pack's image.
"He made me promise not to sever ties with Janet for five years. If not, Tiana would be barred from the Pack estate permanently.
"There's still one month left."
"Tiana and your kid have waited so long in the neighboring territory..." the man countered. "What are you planning to do with Janet after that month is up? Kick her out?"
Michael paused, his eyes darkening slightly.
"Janet's devoted to me and she runs the pack affairs flawlessly.
"Once Tiana and I make our mate bond public, I'll keep Janet around as a mistress. Tiana's understanding, she'll tolerate her in the pack house."
The man replied, "True, Janet's just some rogue orphan. She should be grateful as long as she's fed and sheltered."
The words detonated in my mind like explosives.
I squeezed my eyes shut, biting my lip so hard as I forced down the lethal roar of my inner wolf.
Five years. I had played the perfect, submissive Luna. I managed the Peterson Pack, brokered their corporate deals and swallowed my own pride to stay with him.
But I was a sheer placeholder.
A sick joke to appease his grandfather.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed as a text from my childhood friend, Lydia, lit up my phone.
"Janet, your test results are finally in. About conceiving a pup... You need to come to the clinic right now. I need to explain this in person.”
After five years of inability to conceive an heir for Michael, I asked Lydia to run an independent test not involving Peterson pack's primary physicians.
I turned on my heel and left the club, my heart hammering against my ribs as I hailed a cab straight to the clinic.
---
Ten minutes later, Lydia slid a medical file across her desk.
"Janet. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't conceive a pup in the past four years. But when I ran a test on those daily supplements Michael has been giving you."
Lydia looked me dead in the eye. "Every single capsule was laced with highly lunar contraceptive agents to suppresses your wolf's fertility."
A cold, dead weight dropped into my stomach.
The supplements.
Michael brought them to me every morning with a glass of water, telling me he just wanted me healthy.
He told me my rogue background made my cycles unstable.
For four years, I took them without a single shred of question.
Tiana's interview.
Michael' callous words at the club.
The secret child.
It all clicked into place with horrifying clarity.
Of course. He already had a purebred heir with Tiana.
Why would he ever want a pup with a "rogue orphan" like me?
"I understand. Please, do not let anyone else know about these results. Michael must not know about this."
"Janet, what are you going to do?" Lydia asked.
I didn't answer.
I just walked out of the clinic and just kept walking.
I walked for blocks and blocks, the cool night air hitting my face until I found myself at the edge of nowhere near the city outskirts.
I pulled out my phone.
With steady, unshakeable fingers, I dialed a number I had memorized but promised never to call.
The line rang twice before a deep, commanding voice answ
ered. "Speak."
"James," I said, my voice steady. "I'm ready to return to the Robinson Pack.
"I'll accept the arranged marriage alliance. But I need one month to wrap things up here in Eastfield."

Chapter 2 — Reckless Breeding

Janet's POV
Two weeks earlier while I was handling the pack’s affairs in Northfield, I was unexpectedly tracked down by my biological family.
The Robinsons.
As it turned out, I wasn't some abandoned rogue orphan after all.
I was the long-lost daughter of an elite pack house whose corporate and political influence stretched across the entire continent.
Upon discovering my existence, the Robinson Pack offered to bring me back into the pack house.
But the rules of the pack were rigid.
To return, I had to accept their terms and enter an arranged marriage to solidify a treaty with another powerful pack house.
Completely blinded by my devotion to Michael, I flatly refused.
Michael had lied to me for five years.
He had destroyed my wolf's fertility.
How could I ever be that foolish?
On the other end of the line, my older brother, James, the Alpha of the Robinson Pack, replied, "I'm glad you finally woke up, Janet,"
James's tone carried a deep, protective bass. "Actually, the Alpha we chose for your alliance has deep roots in the Eastfield territory as well.
"If you have the time this month, it's worth getting to know him. He has a reputation for being ruthless, difficult and utterly unyielding.
"But his character, his combat ability and his pack lineage are flawlessly solid."
After we hung up, James sent me the Alpha's contact.
Drake Richardson.
My breath hitched slightly.
Drake Richardson wasn't just any Alpha, he was the legendary Alpha of the Richardson Pack House.
His name alone made lesser packs fall to their knees in submission.
I stared at the name for a moment, then added him on the messaging network. He accepted almost instantly.
I texted, "Alpha Richardson, this is Janet Robinson. I still have a few loose ends to tie up within the Peterson Pack here in Eastfield.
"Once everything is settled, I am fully prepared to return to Northfield and go through with our mating rites and ceremony.
"And please, do not take any gossip from Eastfield seriously."
A reply came back within seconds, authoritative, and direct.
Drake texted, "Understood. Let me know if you need any help."
I had expected resistance, or at least a demand for an explanation.
Five years.
I had given everything to the Petersons, to their wolves, to their territorial and corporate affairs.
Now that I knew the truth, I wouldn't just slip away quietly into the night like a rejected rogue.
A fake mating rite?
I wanted to see how Michael and Tiana would play out their little tragedy from here.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated. It was Michael.
"Honey, I heard you are back. Where are you now?"
It was the exact same voice that had whispered honeyed lies and false promises into my ear for five long years.
Before I could even formulate a response, a child's high-pitched voice came from the background.
"Daddy, don't talk to that rogue! Come and play with Liam!"
Then Tiana's voice teased close to the phone, "Michael, look at him. You visit him every single month and he still acts like he hasn't his dad in years."
Liam?
The name hit my chest like a silver blade but I forced my expression to remain deadpan.
I remembered, four months ago, Michael ordered his assistant to procure a custom puzzle game with the inscription.
"Happy 4th Birthday, Liam."
He told me it was a gift for a Beta's pup.
So, it was for his own bloodline. His and Tiana's pup.
And those mandatory monthly business trips to the Northfield border?
They were visits to play house with his secret family.
I kept my heartbeat perfectly level so that he wouldn't detect my distress through the phone. "Was that a pup I just heard in the background, Michael?"
A distinct beat of hesitation locked across the line.
A guilty wolf's silence.
Then, Michael cleared his throat. "Yeah, Tiana is in the Pack Estate. She brought her son with her.
"My mother's birthday is coming up so Tiana came to celebrate with her."
Years ago, when Tiana was reclaimed by the Anderson Pack, the old Alpha, Caleb Peterson, quietly enacted a territorial ban to prevent a scandalous blood-feud between the Packs.
Now, she was using a birthday as an opportunity to creep back into the pack Estate.
Pathetic.
I feigned innocent surprise. "Tiana is mated? And she already has a four-year-old pup? She’s only twenty-three. That means she bore a child very early.
"Did the Anderson Pack not guard her properly? Did some rogue take advantage of her?"
"Tiana isn't like that," Michael cut in sharply, his inner wolf growling defensively before he quickly softened his tone.
"Janet. You must be exhausted from traveling across territories. Do you want me to send a pack escort to pick you up?"
So considerate.
So incredibly attentive.
Wasn't he?
The exact same man who had hidden an entire bloodline from me for half a decade.
Tiana was twenty-three now.
Liam was four.
Which meant less than a year after she was sent away, she and Michael had conceived a pup together.
He had crossed territory lines to sire an heir with her while returning to my bed every single week.
A wave of pure disgust turned my stomach.
"I'll take a cab," I said flatly and ended the call.
---
When I arrived at Peterson main Mansion, the oppressive scent of foreign wolves hit my nose.
Tiana was already lounging in the main living room.
Michael' mother, Margaret, was cooing over the young boy, her eyes beaming with pride as she turned to Michael. "I always said it was a blessing that Janet never got pregnant.
"What kind of pup can a rogue orphan pass down? Look at our Liam, he is already vibrant and sharp as a tack."
Michael shrugged and took a sip from his glass. "But we can't cast her out after everything. She will stay in the outer pack house."
He wanted me to stay to continue running his pack affairs
Margaret waved her hand. "Do whatever you want with her. Just make sure she knows her place."
Standing just outside the doorway, I overheard everything.
So Margaret knew.
Of course she did.
Under the Lycan law, any pack member binding themselves before their legal awakening required parental signature to validate the territorial registry.
Margaret withheld her signature from my documents just to sign off on Michael and Tiana's hidden bond instead.
And for five long years, Margaret let me serve the Peterson Pack like a common omega.
I had cooked, cleaned, managed their massive estate and memorized every rival pack’s lineage to please her when she never intended to accept me.
"Mom, don't worry," Tiana purred sweetly, leaning her head on Michael’ shoulder. "It's fair if Janet handled the boring household chores here while I was away securing our alliances."
"Please," Margaret sniffed. "She's a nameless stray compared to you. You gave this pack a grandson."
Before she could utter another insulting word, the head housekeeper gasped from the corridor, her eyes widening in terror. "Ms. Robinson, you're back?!"
I stepped smoothly into the room with a chilling authority that immediately caused the room's temperature to drop.
Margaret’s face flickered with a sudden flash of panic before she forced a bright sweet smile. "Janet! Darling, you're home. When did you get back?"
My cold gaze drifted past Michael, landing squarely on Tiana. "What an intimate family gathering. What were you all discussing so intensely?"
Tiana smirked, pulling Liam closer to her side as if protecting him from a monster.
"Mom was just saying how much she adores having a true grandson around the estate.
"Janet, you and Michael have been 'married' for so long. Is there a reason your wolf hasn't been able to provide an heir?"
"Not all of us breed recklessly, Tiana."
I walked over, sliding my arm effortlessly through Michael's, tilting my head with a flawless smile that didn't reach my eyes.
"You had a pup and we didn't even get to send a gift to the Anderson Pack."
Seeing me standing next to Michael, Liam scowled, his tiny fangs baring as he let out a weak, pathetic pup-growl. "We don't want your trash gifts, you stray wolf! My daddy belongs to my mommy!"

Chapter 3 — Pack Outsider

Chapter 3
Janet's POV
As a young pup, he didn't know what not to say in my presence.
His mother had clearly filled his head with venom, whispering that I was the reason he couldn't live in the pack house with his Alpha father.
"Liam, that's enough. Mind your manners," Tiana purred quickly and offered me an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry, Janet. He's only four."
"Must be exhausting, raising a pup on your own in a foreign territory," I said calmly.
"Where exactly is your mate? A true Alpha shouldn't just act as a genetic donor. Or the kid's discipline will continue to worsen."
Tiana's smile tightened, her eyes flashing a sharp, dangerous amber. "It's a complicated pack arrangement."
"So he just let you fly back to Peterson territory alone with an Alpha heir?
"Tiana, darling, you really need to be more selective about the wolves you move with.
"What's the difference between a male like that and a ghost? Never around to defend his family.
"Only the Moon Goddess knows what other she-wolves he's keeping on the side in other territories."
My words hit every raw nerve in Tiana's pride while simultaneously taking a swipe at Michael's honor right in front of his mother.
Both of their faces stiffened, their scents souring with sudden aggression.
Michael frowned, his shoulder muscles tightening beneath his shirt as he stepped between us. "That's Tiana's personal pack business, Janet.
You must be completely exhausted from the journey. Why don't you head up and rest."
Watching them struggle to maintain their composure, I simply nodded. "Sure. I'll go rest."
Before turning toward the grand staircase, I shot a lingering glance back at the happy little family and almost laughed aloud.
They were squirming.
I wanted to see how much disrespect they could take before their facades would fracture completely.
---
I slept straight through until evening, my inner wolf resting deeply as I prepared for the upcoming storm.
By the time I drifted downstairs, the Elder of the Peterson Pack, Clark Peterson, had finally returned from patrolling the pack's foreign properties.
During dinner, Clark brought up the Peterson Group's push into the lucrative Northfield territory.
"Janet's logistics trip to Northfield raised our profile and brought in some serious interest from the high-council packs," Clark stated.
"I'm incredibly planning on expanding our business there. We are going to focus entirely on the upcoming investment summit.
"The Robinson Pack and the Richardson Pack are our top targets."
Clark glanced at me from the head of the table. "These aren't small, regional players, Janet.
"Your rogue background aren't at the level for negotiations of this magnitude. Let Michael handle the Alphas.
"Tiana knows some key elders in Northfield during her time with the Anderson Pack. She will be assisting him."
I felt a sudden, lethal flicker of derision rise in my chest.
My background isn't at the level?
I had single-handedly closed corporate deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars while navigating the treacherous underbelly of the Lycan financial systems.
If it weren't for my business acumen over the last five years, the Peterson Group would still be scraping for table scraps while losing border and properties in the City.
And now they wanted an investment from the Robinson Pack and the Richardson Pack?
I didn't know the exact inner workings of the Richardson Pack yet, but my newly designated fiancé happened to be the Alpha.
The Robinson Pack?
My brother James had made it explicitly clear over the phone.
On any operations, I have absolute, unquestionable authority over the Robinson bloodline's wealth.
If these fools wanted Robinson, they needed to go through me.
Before I could voice a single word, Tiana jumped in. "I've heard of both lineages back. They are absolute apex predators. They are notoriously impossible to work with.
"Especially Alpha Drake Richardson. I highly doubt a lone wolf like Janet can get anywhere near his inner circle. I only managed to meet him once, briefly, at an elite high-council dinner..."
"You actually crossed paths with Alpha Richardson?" Clark's face lit up, his aura flaring with sudden excitement. "Come to think of it, you and Michael grew up together in the same nursery.
"No pack outsider could ever match that kind of synergy. It's wonderful that you can step up to help him lead this expansion."
I caught the insult immediately. After five years of bleeding for this pack, I was still just a nameless "outsider" to them.
Tiana glanced coyly at Michael, a faint blush rising to her cheeks. "It's the least I can do for the pack.
"But I'm not entirely familiar with the heavy financial side. Michael will have to walk me through the pack dynamics in private. And then, of course, there’s little Liam to take care of..."
Michael’s gaze softened to absolute mush, his inner wolf practically purring across the table.
"Of course. Don't worry about Liam's training. Janet and Mom can handle Liam while we're in meetings."
