Chapter 1

Amelia’s Pov
"No! It's not me, daddy! Please believe me, please..."
It all happened so fast.
One minute, Leon was running down the stairs, his excited squeals cracking through the silence, and the next minute, he was tumbling down the flight of numerous stairs. Instinctively, I reached out to grab him but I couldn’t grab him.
I watched in horror as he tumbled down the stairs, his desperate cries piercing through my heart as I ran towards him.
But I was too late.
The unmistakable thud of his head cracking against the hard marble was sickening.
“Leon…Leon!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, like somehow that would get him to feel okay. I skipped stairs as I ran towards him, not even caring if I fell just as he did. When I finally got to him, I crouched, scraping my knees on the ground as I cradled the back of his head.
My hands were coated in a warm liquid… his blood.
Leon’s blood.
Panic erupted through me as my breaths came out in desperate struggles. I tried not to move him too much as I shook him, holding unto a fleeting hope that he’d wake up.
But he was unconscious.
Screams escaped my throat, my tears streaming down unto his pale face.
“Somebody help us!”
At that instant, thundering steps approached us. I didn’t tear my eyes of Leon until our father stood in front of me. His eyes widened as his gaze landed on Leon.
Suddenly, his eyes shifted from Leon to me, his expression contorted into one of rage.
“You did this!” he barked, a deep growl reverberating through him that made me flinch. “You witch! You tried to kill my boy.”
"No! It’s not me!" My tears ran down as I pleaded eagerly, my voice shaking with panic. "I don't know why Leon suddenly fell off... I... I just wanted to catch him..."
“Guards! Take her to the dungeon!”
The words bellowed through the walls, my heart to coming to a halt as I processed his words.
Before I could protest,Leon’s unconscious body was ripped from my arms, followed by hands grabbing me and pulling me away.
How did this happen? Why should I be considered as the murderer of my stepbrother? Why wouldn't my father give me a chance to explain? Why wouldn't he trust me?
The guards dragged me to the dungeon door, where the heavy iron doors opened with a grinding noise. Before I could stand still, they pushed me roughly in.
My body thudded against the cold, hard concrete floor, and a sharp pain swept through me.
My tongue was torn by the impact, and I could taste the strong smell of blood, warm liquid gushing out of my mouth and dripping to the ground. The blood ran down the chin in a thin line.
“Stand up, you murderer!”
One of the guards snapped coldly, and the sound pierced my ear like a sharp sword. He stood over me and kicked me mercilessly in the stomach.
The pain made me curl up in a ball, my breath suddenly suppressed, my lungs like an invisible hand clenched, I couldn't breathe. But all I could do was bite my lip and not let myself show any sign of weakness.
"Do you think you're still Alpha's daughter? You bitch, how dare you murder the future Alpha!" The guard growled in anger, lifted his legs and tried to kick again, but was stopped in time by another guard.
"Don't waste your time with the bitch, Alpha will execute her himself." The man who stopped said coldly. Then they left the damp, dark dungeon together, leaving me alone on the cold floor.
I don’t know how long I’d stayed locked in this dungeon, but I could feel the moon’s presence lingering, despite having no window, I could somehow feel its warmth on my skin.
A sudden stimulating feeling coursed through me, prickling my nerves and making the hairs on my neck stand on end. Confusion clouded my mind until realization struck.
My shift was supposed to be tonight… and Jax was meant to be with me, to support me through it.
Hot, searing pain suddenly tore through my spine, forcing a broken whimper out of my throat. My eyes widened in terror as I clawed my way off the ground.
“No, no… please, not here,” I cried out, hoping somewhere the goddess would hear my cry of plea.
It came again-- an even sharper pain ripped through me. A strangled cry escaped me.
“Please… I can’t do this alone!” I cried out desperately, clutching my chest as though it would stop the pain coursing through me.
But the pain coursing through my limbs was proof that my prayers didn’t reach the goddess’s ears.
The dungeon’s perforating darkness wrapped around me like a noose, keeping both my body and soul captive.
I could feel my soul crushing, losing every ounce of hope I’d tettered onto for my sanity. Now I felt it all slipping away as pain grappled every muscle in my body.
I forced my feet to stand as I limped to the dungeon gates when I heard a snap.
Screams filled the room, and I didn’t realize it came from me until I collapsed on my broken leg.
Another snap and my arm got twisted in an awkward angle. I stared in horror, fear gurgling down the scream lodged in my throat.
They say a werewolf’s shift is supposed to be a soul-binding moment between a shifter and their wolf, but mine felt different.
I yearned desperately for my wolf’s soothing voice, to feel her coat brush against my skin and our soul tie— but all I felt was nothing but a profound emptiness and agony from the excruciating pain coursing through every fiber of my being.
My throat tightened as I held back my screams, praying for death to ease my misery.
The dungeon doors suddenly opened and I sensed who it was before I saw him.
“Jax,” I tried to say his name, but I hadn't produced a sound.
He rushed towards me, his voice trembling when he saw me, “Goddess… what have they done to you?” His eyes widened in realization. “You’re shifting.”
The gates opened and in a flash, he lifted me into his arms gently.
“They told me you were in the dungeon. I finally found you!” he whispered, his voice soothing my agony. “I know you’re innocent.”
The moment our skin touched, a silent whisper rammed through my mind
‘Mate.’
He carried me out of the dungeon, watching me closely. “I don’t understand. Your body is mangled from your shift, but I see no sign of your wolf.”
I didn’t understand it either… but all I needed right now was to get out of here.
Suddenly, Jax halted as a deep growl reverberated through his chest.
“Get out of my way.”
I followed his gaze to find my father glaring at us.
"You're really going to defy your Alpha for the murderer? Leon had wolfsbane in his system, and we found the exact same wolfsbane in her room,"he spat out, making me flinch.
Wolfsbane? I suddenly realized what happened today is no accident. My heart sank as I realized who was trying to hurt me.
“Give me some time. I'll prove her innocence, alpha.” Jax shot back. “Please trust your daughter one more time!”
Silence.
“She’s not my daughter.”
His words felt like a spear had been thrown through my heart. Uncontrollable tears rolled down my eyes as I held onto the only person I had left.
Jax tried to move forward but a sudden strike from behind made him falter. He collapsed slowly, his gaze still holding mine while he did. His grip on me loosened and even as he fell unconscious, he made sure he didn't drop me hard.
Desperately, I tried to reach Jax’s unconscious body but his father got to him first. I watched with a broken heart as he threw Jax over his shoulder and left the dungeon.
Defeated, I turned to my father.
“I didn’t do it,” I whispered, but his eyes remained cold.
“You still dare to lie to my face!” he bellowed. “The evidence is clear, Amelia. You were expelled from the Silver Moon Pack for attempting to kill the future alpha.”
It felt like a part of me had been ripped out of my chest.
With one last look filled with animosity, he added.
“I never want to see your face again. If I do… I’ll kill you.”

Chapter 2

Amelia
It was dark and I had no idea where to go. The night air was chilly and everywhere was so cold, that it felt like I would freeze to death at any moment.
How could they be so cruel? Not only was I expelled from the pack, but I was left with nothing. No money and here I was standing by the pack borders, penniless. How would I go from there?
I sucked in a deep and shaky voice, my whole body shivering with cold as I looked around for any soul. There was no one. I was alone and I wasn't even sure anyone would help me.
I lost count of how long I stood there, but suddenly, two men approached me. They were huge, bald and unfamiliar men. They had this scary aura emanating from them that scared the living hell out of me. Where did they suddenly come out from?
“Who are you?” I felt my teeth shattering as they both stood in front of me. Both men were dressed in black.
“Miss Amelia,” One of them called, bowing his head slightly as my eyes narrowed.
“I asked who you are?” I was extremely scared, but I managed to use a stern voice. I wouldn't show my fear, especially now when I was alone with two huge men in the middle of the night.
“Jax was locked in the pack by Beta, and he asked us to help you.” One said and I stilled, with a slight look of confusion on my face.
“Jax?” I drew out in a questioning tone, wanting to make sure they knew exactly who they were talking about.
“Yes. He'd figured you'd need a place to stay tonight. You'll follow us to the hotel where you'll be spending the night. Jax will come for you first thing tomorrow.” He reported.
I was grateful. My mate didn’t give up on me in moments like this. I actually needed a place to crash and a place to warm myself up.
“O….okay.” I drew out, flashing a sheepish smile at the both of them.
They both nodded, as one of them pointed at a car.
“Lead the way miss, Amelia.” I nodded as I slowly began to walk towards the car.
I felt so happy that Jax was coming the next day. He was my mate, the only one who trusted me and the only one who can help me back to the sliver moon pack.
I slid into the car, both men taking respective seats at the front before the car drove off into the night. The car stopped in front of a hotel that was located at the border of the werewolf forest.
It seemed like Jax already booked a room since they led me straight to the room. I stepped into the room first and the moment I stepped in, the door was abruptly closed.
Now that was strange. There were no questions asked as the men just closed the door. I tried to open the door but I realized that it was locked. At that moment, my heart began to race. What the hell was going on?
“Who's there? Hello!!!!” I yelled, knocking loudly on the door. “Hello!!! Get me out of here!!!” Fear crept through my spine as I got no response.
I looked around the neatly arranged room with a racing heart. I had no idea what was happening, but it was apparent that I was in trouble.
“Hey!!!!! Hello!!!!!” I knocked loudly on the door, but still no response. I ran straight to the window but my heart skipped a bit when I realized that I was on the last floor of the hotel. If I jumped down, I'd die.
“Get me out of here!!!! Hey!!!! Jax!!!” Each time I yelled, I was greeted by absolute silence. There was no one. I had fallen into a trap. A terrible one.
I ran around the room frantically, looking for a means to escape and just when I was about to give up, I heard the door click. I ran to the door as it slowly opened and I was stunned by who I saw!
"Chantel?"
My stepsister!
She stared at me with a smile and asked, "I hope you didn't get hurt, Sis?"
"You sent them?" I uttered, still in shock.
Chantel shoved my questioned and expressed her sympathy towards me. "Jax was worried about you. He asked me to come here to make sure you were okay," She said, making me sad.
My father, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, brought back his mistress and a stepsister a year older than me after my mother passed away. I always thought Chantel thought of me as her enemy, and I didn't expect her to support me in such desperate times.
Emotional, I rushed into her arms for support. She held me close, patting me on the back.
"Chantel, I swear I didn't do it. I didn't murder Leon. It's not me!" I cried.
"I know, Amelia. I know," She said, caressing me.
"I have to return to father and prove my innocence. He needs to know that I'm... AHH!" I exclaimed on feeling something sharp pricking into my neck from behind!
The pain forced me out of Chantel's arms, only for me to see a syringe in her hold and her smile fading into... Darkness!
“What did you—” My eyes began to grow heavy and the next thing I saw was black.
When I woke up, I felt aches all around my waist down to my legs.
I groaned into my pillow, my eyes fluttering open and I could feel my strengths slowly coming back to me. Looking around, I realized that I was still in the hotel room as everything came flashing back.
Fuck! I fell into Chantel’s trap!
“Chantel!!” I yelled, sitting up on the bed in a swift move. She injected me last night, rendering me unconscious. I was about to get out of bed when I realized that I was completely naked.
My whole body trembled. I tried to understand what happened when I felt a sharp pain coming from my private region. I tossed the blanket covering my lower body and froze at what I saw.
"Blood?" I gazed in shock, staring at the blood stain on the bed.
It's... It's coming out of my...
"It can't be. No, IT CAN'T!" I busted out in tears, trembling and crying at this horrible scene.
I couldn’t believe what happened. I climbed off the bed as if it burned like lava. This wasn’t a dream.
I had to get out of here. I grabbed my clothes and pulled them over my head, but the front door burst open.
“See, I didn’t lie,” Chantel said.
Jax marched into the room. I froze. He stared at me in disbelief.
“Jax… please this isn’t what it looks like!”

Chapter 3

Third Pov
"How dare you!" Jax clutched Amelia's wrist, anger burning in his eyes.
"I didn't know what happened! It was Chantel—she injected me with ecstasy!" Amelia explained eagerly, trying to convince Jax of her innocence.
"You betrayed me, Amelia. When Chantel told me you had been seen with another man, I chose not to believe it. But when you actually had sex with someone else, did you ever think about the gut-wrenching pain I would have to endure as your mate?" Jax bellowed, his voice filled with pain and anger, his eyes blazing.
"Jax, please believe me!" Amelia's voice was tearful, almost pleading.
Jax clenched his fists, his face a mask of unbelievable disappointment and pain. His eyes fell on the stark red blood on the bed, and his chest felt as if it were being torn apart. Betrayal between partners was undoubtedly the deepest wound. Amelia stood in a daze; her memory of the previous night was a blank. She couldn’t explain what had happened, but she knew that no matter what she said, it couldn’t change the reality.
"Believe your lies?" Jax's voice was low and suffocating, each word cutting like a blade. "I swore to protect you, even to go to any lengths to prove your innocence. But why did you choose to betray me like this?"
"I'm not lying! This is all part of Chantel's plot! She planned it!" Amelia growled angrily, her eyes burning scarlet as she glared at Chantel with fury.
"That's enough! Stop blaming your mistakes on others!" Jax roared, his voice thundering like a storm. His eyes were cold, yet blazing with anger. "Chantel was with me the whole time. How could she have planned all this?"
Amelia turned her gaze to Chantel, who stood next to Jax with a meaningful smile on her lips. Her eyes gleamed with excitement and pride, as if she had already won.
"I don’t want to see you again, Amelia," Jax said, his voice deep and resolute, his eyes a mix of pain and contempt.
"Wh...What did you say?" Amelia murmured, though her heart already understood the meaning of his words.
Jax took a deep breath, and his voice carried a cold sense of finality: "I, Jax Stone, the future Beta of the Silvermoon Pack, reject you, Amelia, the Alpha daughter of the Silvermoon Pack who was expelled from the pack. It is what you deserve. Accept it!"
Amelia shook her head, tears running down her cheeks. She couldn't believe it, couldn't accept that someone she loved could treat her so cruelly.
"Accept it!" Jax approached her coldly, his voice piercing into her ear like a knife blade. "You are a wolf-less traitor, a faithless woman! You don't deserve to be my mate!"
She froze, unable to move, unable even to look Jax in the eye. The pain was so severe that her legs grew weak, and she almost collapsed.
"Accept it!" Jax growled at Amelia. His voice, like thunder, made her heart tremble. A tear rolled down her chin, and she clenched her teeth, trying to stifle her cries. However, the pain and humiliation eventually broke her. She nodded gently, like someone utterly destroyed. If eyes could kill, Jax's eyes would have cut her a thousand times.
Finally, Jax grasped her chin and turned away, without a trace of nostalgia. Amelia lost her support and collapsed to the ground, bursting into tears.
Chantel crouched down slowly, a sneering smile on her face. She held up a finger and contemptuously lifted Amelia's chin. "Serves you right, bitch."
Amelia raised her swollen, red eyes and stared at Chantel with a mixture of anger and grief. Her voice trembled. "Why? Why are you doing this to me? What have I done to you?"
Chantel sneered, hate flashing in her eyes. "Don't act so innocent. Your mother stole my mother's husband, and you destroyed our family. And you—stole my father!"
Chantel's eyes turned cold as she raised her hand and slapped Amelia hard. The sharp sound of the slap echoed in the empty room.
"I never wanted to argue with you about anything," Amelia cried, her voice filled with pain. "Why are you doing this to me?"
"You always act so innocent, like a saint, attracting everyone's attention!" Chantel sneered, her arms crossed, her eyes full of disdain. "You took Jax. As long as you are around, he only sees you! It's absurd that the Moon Goddess would choose a bitch like you as her mate!"
Chantel stood up straight, looking down at Amelia with icy detachment. "But now, everything is back on track. Expelled, rejected—all these are traps I’ve created for you, my dear sister."
"Traps?" Amelia stared at Chantel in shock and disbelief.
"Yes," Chantel replied, a hint of triumph and cruelty in her eyes.
"You hurt Leon! He's your brother, and you hurt him to get rid of me!"
Amelia's eyes welled up with tears, her red, swollen eyes widening in shock. "Leon... It was you... You did this to him? Chantel, how could you?!" Her voice trembled with anger and heartache.
"So what?" Chantel snapped back, her voice dripping with contempt. "You’re banished. A wolf-less piece of shit!"
Without another word, Chantel stood up and walked out of the room, not sparing a second glance at Amelia. She couldn't wait to tell her mother what had happened.
"Mom!" Chantel’s voice rang sweetly as she entered Iris's private living room.
Iris looked up from her magazine, raising an eyebrow gracefully. "I hope you bring good news, Chantel."
"Mom, you doubt me?" Chantel complained with feigned grievance, then chuckled and walked over to the sofa. Iris's private living room had always been her sanctuary—so secretive that even her Alpha father didn’t know it existed.
Chantel proudly recounted everything she had done to Amelia that day. Without Iris's support and planning, her "perfect plan" would never have succeeded so smoothly.
After hearing this, Iris smirked, the corner of her lips curling. "This is my daughter. As smart as your mother."
"Always," Chantel replied, her chest swelling with pride.
"And there's even better news—Amelia didn't get her wolf." Chantel leaned back on the couch, sounding as relaxed as if she were talking about the weather.
"That's exactly what I was expected." Iris's smile deepened, a grimness in her eyes as she admired her freshly manicured nails, content to all plan in her control.
"It's all over," Chantel said with a lazy stretch and a smirk on her lips. "I'm going upstairs now and turning Amelia's room into my second cloakroom."
Iris smiled, a playful glint in her eyes. "So soon, Chantel? At least pretend to be sad for your father's sake. Don't forget, Leon isn't awake yet."
Chantel's face darkened immediately. She frowned and said coldly, "He won't care. He only has eyes for the so-called 'precious heir.'" There was an undisguised bitterness and jealousy in her voice.
Iris simply smiled faintly, apparently not surprised. She knew Chantel's words weren’t misplaced. If she hadn't given birth to Leon, the Alpha’s heir, he would never have marked her as pack’s Luna. At that point, she might have been forced to accept the mark of her omega mate and live in eternal humiliation.
Chantel turned and walked up the stairs to Amelia's room. The room still smelled of Amelia's perfume, and the familiar scent made Chantel feel sick and uneasy. She wrinkled her nose, opened the windows and balcony doors, letting the cold air rush in and dispel any trace of Amelia.
She stood in the middle of the room, glancing around as if the space itself were a provocation.
She went to the wardrobe, pulled out pieces of Amelia's clothes, and threw them on the floor. Then she ripped the sheets off the bed, kicked the pillows aside, and tossed the shoes across the room from the shoe closet. Each movement was deliberate and rough, as if venting the jealousy and anger in her heart.
Standing amidst the chaos, Chantel lifted her chin with a sneer on her face. "She thought she was perfect, but now she's nothing."
Chantel pulled out her phone, posed in front of the mirror, and began taking pictures. A sudden knock at the door interrupted her movements. She frowned, trying to ignore it, and continued adjusting herself for a more perfect selfie. The next moment, however, the door was thrown open.
"Who are you?" Chantel turned abruptly, blurting out in alarm and unease.
At the door stood a tall man in black pants and a leather jacket, still clutching the doorknob. He had soft brown eyes and meticulously groomed black hair, but there was an aura about him that felt strange and dangerous. His eyes scanned Chantel from top to bottom, and she subconsciously lowered her phone and took two steps back.
Chantel soon realized that the man was not her father's guard. His temperament, his attire, even his eyes, were nothing like a member of the group.
"I’ve been sent to get you," the man said, his voice low but unmistakably cold.
"What?" Chantel narrowed her eyes, trying to make sense of what was happening.
The man did not repeat himself. He walked straight into the room. Chantel reflexively backed away, her phone slipping from her hand and crashing to the floor with a sharp thud.
"Come with me," his tone was cold and devoid of emotion.
"No! I won’t go!" Chantel screamed, panic and anger lacing her voice.
However, as soon as she had finished speaking, the man suddenly stepped forward, putting a hand quickly over her mouth and forcing her scream to stop.
Chantel struggled violently, but the man's strength was surprisingly powerful, and she couldn’t shake him off. He grabbed her by the arm and dragged her out of the bedroom.
"Let me go!" A wave of despair welled up in Chantel's heart as she desperately tried to get anyone's attention. However, the corridor was eerily quiet, as if the entire house were empty. No one came to save her.
The man forcibly dragged her out of the house, where a dark-colored SUV with reflective windows completely obscured the view of the interior. Two other men stood beside the SUV, their faces expressionless, clearly part of the same group. They quickly opened the door and shoved Chantel into the back seat.
With the low roar of the engine, the car sped away from the mansion. Chantel slumped in her seat, her eyes filled with fear and confusion. She couldn’t believe what had just happened.
