Chapter 1 — Heading to Bluemoon Pack

Queenie's POV:
I'm Queenie Seabrook, Alpha of the Icefield Pack. I was one of the rare female Alpha successors on the Werewolf Continent.
Today was my 18th birthday. Normally, I'd be doing the official Alpha succession ceremony.
But right now, I was keeping my aura hidden and pretending to be an Omega while heading to the far-off Bluemoon Pack.
The reason was complicated. Lately, my wolf, Alice, told me some unsettling updates.
"Queenie, something feels wrong. I'm not just tired—I can feel my bond with this land fading. I can barely sense prey like I used to. Even the scent trails in the air are getting faint."
Her words made me clench my fists hard.
As an Alpha, I was born with a sharp instinct for sensing everything around me. It mattered more than raw strength. It was what made me a real leader.
I'd always pushed myself to train beyond the limit.
When I first shifted to wolf form at ten, I could already beat a full-grown Beta without a weapon.
When I was 16, I passed the elders' trials and officially became the chosen successor of the Icefield Pack.
Still, I never thought strength had a limit. I wanted to rise higher and become the Alpha King of the continent someday.
But Alice's warning felt like a knife piercing through the heart. I was losing the core abilities that defined me as a top Alpha.
"Is there any way to fix this?" I asked, hands shaking and knuckles turning white.
Alice stayed quiet for a while, then finally said in a hesitant voice, "There is, but you're not gonna love it—"
"I'll do it," I cut her off. "Whatever it takes to be myself again, I'll do it."
"This isn't just about strength," she said, sounding more serious than usual. "An Alpha's power comes from two things—our ability to fight enemies and the heart that holds the pack together.
"You always say emotions get in the way, but think about why we protect our territory, why we trust our packmates, and why we respect the Moon Goddess. That's where our strength actually comes from."
Then she added, kind of teasing, "You've turned yourself into a cold, fighting machine. Guess even the Moon Goddess thinks it's time you learn how to feel something."
Her words hit me like thunder.
The thing I'd always looked down on—love—might be the only way to save myself?
But Alice wasn't wrong. Every legendary Alpha King's story talked about their bond with their mate and how deeply they cared for their people.
All those things I used to see as distractions were actually the source of real power.
When I told my grandpa, Dominic Seabrook, about that, he checked me over with a frown, then just laughed.
"You silly girl. Being a strong Alpha was never about doing everything alone."
He traced the wolf totem on his cane. "Remember how the elders tested both your strength and how you handled conflicts in the pack? Strength is the skeleton, emotions are the blood. You need both to survive."
What shocked me even more was when he told me he had already set up a marriage between me and another Alpha, Kingsley Hemlock from Bluemoon Pack.
"He rose to lead the Bluemoon Pack early on. He comes off cold, but he's very protective."
My grandpa looked at me with pride. "Try spending some time with him. You might discover the emotional strength you've been missing."
For the sake of getting my power back, I agreed.
But I had one concern. If I showed up as the Icefield Pack's Alpha successor, everyone would just suck up to me. I'd never see their true colors. That title only brought fake smiles and extra problems.
So, I faked being an Omega and showed up at the Bluemoon Pack's train station.
The Hemlocks' driver picked me up and took me to a manor. At the entrance, a fancy-looking woman stood in my way, scanning me like I was some kind of dirt.
"Lydia!" she called out.
"Yes, Mrs. Hemlock."
The next moment, a bucket of disgusting-smelling liquid came flying at me. It was wormwood water, which was used to wash off wolfsbane.
If I hadn't jumped out of the way fast enough, I would've been soaked in that nasty stuff.
Still, some of it splashed on my ankles and started pooling around my shoes.
"Queenie! Rip her apart!" Alice roared inside me. "How dare she throw wormwood water at us?! Don't let her get away with that!"
My fingertips itched as my claws nearly burst out, but I held myself back.
"Are you crazy?" I shook the water off my jacket and glared at the maid who threw it.
Joanna Hemlock stood in the shade of the porch, her pearl bracelet glinting as she flicked her hand and ordered her maid. "Don't miss her shoes or her hair! Who knows what kind of disease she brought from up north? We can't let this bumpkin Omega dirty up our territory!"
On any other day, I would've broken her arm in one hit and shown her who she was messing with.
But I had a purpose. I was here to use the engagement with Kingsley to jolt my emotions back to life and reclaim the strength I'd lost.
That meant I couldn't cause trouble on my first day.
I swallowed the growl burning in my chest and took a steady breath.
"Maybe you should also rinse your mouth with wormwood water," I said calmly. "It reeks worse than any rotten wolf I've ever met."
"You bumpkin Omega! How dare you talk back?!"
I ignored Joanna's anger and walked right past and into the house.
The living room was lit up by a massive chandelier, practically blinding. A young woman sat on the couch in a sleek silk dress, her legs casually crossed. A wolf fang anklet sparkled at her ankle. Her eyes were even sharper than Joanna's.
She gave me a slow once-over like I was prey. "So, you're Queenie? Kingsley's fiancée?"

Chapter 2 — It's Her

Queenie's POV:
"Grandpa must've completely lost it if he thinks a country-bumpkin, weak Omega like you should marry my cousin. The northern continent is indeed poor. What kind of place still uses steam trains? Don't tell me you guys don't even have spiritual hover cars."
I went over the key info my grandpa had told me about the Bluemoon Pack, then looked at the girl trash-talking in front of me. I recognized her right away—Chloe Hemlock, a useless Omega.
To be fair, she wasn't completely wrong. We didn't have hover cars in the north.
But that was only because we didn't need them.
In wolf form, we could easily hit 120 mph. Snowstorms were our highways. We didn't need fancy tech to get around.
I pulled my coat tighter, hiding the moonstone pendant that masked my Alpha power. "I don't know if your grandpa is losing it, but people who obsess over someone else's ride probably can't run that fast themselves."
Chloe's face turned red like someone had just stepped on her tail. "Excuse me?! Bluemoon Pack's wolves are the fastest in the south!"
"Cool," I replied, raising a brow and turning toward the stairs. I had zero interest in arguing.
Pretending to be an Omega was already annoying enough. No way I was wasting time on an ignorant brat like her.
"Hey! Stop!" she yelled, hurrying after me and blocking the stairs. "I haven't even told you where your room is!"
"Then show me," I said flatly.
With clenched teeth, she led me up. Once she opened the door, she turned nasty again. "Bet you've never stayed in a room this nice.
"You should be grateful that my grandpa is letting a bumpkin like you enjoy our pack's hospitality. Remember, I'm Alpha's favorite cousin. If you wanna stick around here, you better—"
I didn't let her finish. I walked straight in and shut the door behind me. As I scanned the room, Alice yawned in my mind.
"The observatory back home is twice as big. During the snow season, you can just lie there on warm rugs and look at the stars. These southern wolves don't know what that's like."
I nodded slightly, not caring about it.
Chloe's shouting could still be heard through the door. "You country bumpkin! How dare you slam the door?! I can't believe Grandpa wants you to be the future Luna—"
I ignored her annoying voice and looked around the room properly.
The chandelier above me was blinding. A few men's black shirts were hanging in the closet, and there was even a razor in the bathroom. Why was everything in here for a guy?
Alice yawned again. "Looks like your fiancé thought ahead and prepped the room. Too bad he forgot you're not a dude. Minus points."
Whatever. It didn't matter.
I was only staying in the Bluemoon Pack for three months.
I'd already agreed with my grandpa. If I didn't feel anything for Kingsley after three months and got my powers back through this whole emotional connection idea, I'd head straight home.
Not even the Moon Goddess could convince me to stay longer by then.
I took a freezing shower to calm Alice down. Later, the maid brought dinner. It was rare venison, slightly sweet—way better than I expected.
After a long day, I collapsed into bed and was out in seconds, completely unaware that someone would sneak into bed at midnight.
Kingsley's POV:
I didn't get home till midnight as I had to deal with the last Rogue messing around near the border.
Richard, my wolf, could tell I was stalling and chimed in lazily.
"You went all the way out there just to dodge picking up your fiancée. You know that can't last forever. Might as well go face her now. I'm kinda curious what's so special about that fiancée from the countryside pack Grandpa keeps talking about."
It was ridiculous.
I snorted, running my fingers across the wolfsbane burn on my wrist.
Way back, my grandpa got saved by a northern wolf during that massive werewolf-vampire war. As a thank-you, he promised a future marriage between families. The kicker? That northern wolf's descendant was also a son, so the crazy deal landed on me.
"I heard she's an Omega," Richard said, yawning and licking his fangs. "Let the Alpha of Bluemoon Pack marry a bumpkin Omega who might not even shift? Grandpa has gone off the rails."
I tore off my bloodstained jacket as the sting of wolfsbane crept through my veins and burned toward my temples.
Out of nowhere, I thought about the girl who saved me during that kidnapping ages ago. I always wondered what kind of Alpha she would've turned into if she'd made it out alive.
She definitely wouldn't have been some helpless Omega waiting around to be protected.
"Forget her," Richard muttered. "She died in that Rogue den, remember?"
"Shut up!" I clenched my fists until they trembled. Just thinking of her lying there in her blood tore me up inside.
Whether she was dead or not, my heart had always been hers.
As for the fiancée my grandpa picked out? I didn't care. I'd cancel that ridiculous arrangement sooner or later.
As soon as I opened the door, an unfamiliar scent hit me.
I squinted.
Who had the nerve to sneak into my room?
I headed straight for the bed. The moonlight poured in, lighting up the face poking out from under the blanket.
She was sound asleep, hair all over the pillow, lips slightly curved like she was smiling.
That had to be the country fiancée my grandpa mentioned.
Richard stirred inside me. "Wanna throw her out?"
I almost did—until I caught a faint scent of lily of the valley blended with cedar. It was the same scent as that little girl from back then.
"It's her! Kingsley, that's her scent!" Richard was wide awake now, pacing and growling inside me. "When she protected you that day, this is exactly what she smelled like!"

Chapter 3 — I'm Not Even Into You

Kingsley's POV:
My hand froze in the air. No way. The girl who took a Rogue's blade for me all those years ago was supposed to grow up to be an Alpha successor. But the woman sleeping in my bed right now? She gave off the vibe of a weak Omega.
I leaned down to catch that scent again, but it had already faded. All I could smell now was the usual glacier lily.
"Probably just the wolfsbane illusion." I straightened up, letting out a low, hoarse laugh.
Wolfsbane always screwed with senses. I couldn't believe I forgot something so basic.
Even though the cold water had rinsed the blood off, my heart still wouldn't settle. That smell had rattled me badly.
Annoyed, I finished showering and came back out. She was still there, sound asleep. How the hell was I supposed to sleep like that?
I wasn't one to sleep well in unfamiliar beds. I usually just stayed up and powered through.
But after today's fight, I couldn't afford to. The wolfsbane wouldn't clear without rest.
Kicking her out would've been easy, but also pretty low for me.
So, fine. I'd deal with it for one night.
I climbed into bed, staying as far from her as possible.
Just as I started to close my eyes, she suddenly rolled over and threw an arm around my waist.
Then, she mumbled, half-asleep, "Be good, kitty. Quit moving. Sleep time."
Her breath tickled my skin, warm and laced with the smell of venison.
I stiffened up completely. The burning from the wolfsbane just vanished. Something strange stirred in me.
Richard went quiet for once. After a beat, he said, "Did she ... just treat you like a pet?"
I didn't push her away.
The moonlight hit her face. For a second, she looked exactly like that girl who warmed my frozen hands in that dark room years ago.
That night, sleep came easily for the first time.
My dreams were filled with old memories from ten years ago.
I remembered the little girl who was locked up with me.
In that pitch-black room, she was battered and bleeding, but she still shielded me in the corner. Her voice was tiny, but steady. "Don't worry. I'm tough. I'll keep you safe."
Queenie's POV:
"Kingsley! Aunt Joanna made breakfast! Don't you have stuff to do today? Wake up!"
Chloe's screechy voice jolted me awake, and the first thing I saw was a man.
I blinked in shock, locking eyes with him.
He had sharp brows and long lashes, but those icy eyes could chill a whole room.
He pursed his lips and clenched his jaw tightly, looking at me coldly.
He looked exactly like my grandpa had described. That had to be my so-called fiancé, Kingsley.
Alice whistled, "Whoa, Grandpa wasn't lying—your fiancé is so handsome!
"Too bad I lost my powers. I can't tell if he's our destined mate. If he is, that'd be awesome."
"Awesome? A mate would just slow me down."
I snapped back through our telepathic link, rolling my eyes.
It wasn't like being good-looking could bring my powers back. Alice just had a thing for handsome men.
I sat up quickly, glaring at the guy in front of me. "Why are you in my bed?"
He turned gloomy.
"Queenie, right? This is my room. Shouldn't I be asking you that?"
"Your room?"
Before I could say another word, he cut in. "First day here, and you're already in my bed. You truly don't waste time, huh?"
Wait—what?!
Thinking about all that guy stuff from yesterday, it made sense that I was in Kingsley's room. Chloe set me up!
I got out of bed, my tone sharp. "Let's get this straight. I didn't sneak into your bed. Chloe told me this was my room. I'm not even into you.
"Also, I was asleep when you showed up. If you didn't notice someone in your bed, that's on you. You even held me all night! What's your excuse for that, huh? Secretly into me or something?"
His expression froze.
Honestly, I was faking my calmness as well. I couldn't believe I'd just curled up and slept with him defenselessly.
I was supposed to be an Alpha successor. How could I let my guard down?
Was I getting weaker? Was that why my senses were dulling too?
If someone had attacked me last night, I would've been done for.
No way. I needed to recover my powers as soon as possible.
Still, I stayed cool. I smirked, crooked a finger at him, and said teasingly, "Why are you staring at me like that, Kingsley? Don't tell me you're truly falling for me?"
