Chapter 1 — You're Pregnant, Luna

Stella Black's POV:
A pale crescent moon flickered behind heavy clouds, casting the sky in a dim light. The air reeked of damp soil and wet fur. Honestly, I still hadn't gotten used to the scent—and lately, it had been making me nauseous.
"You're pregnant, Ms. Black!" The clinic's doctor—a creature with the body of a man and the head of a wolf—clutched a glowing, bluish ultrasound report in one hand. His eyes burned with fury. He had always treated me with disdain, if not outright contempt. But now? Now he looked ready to kill.
A human woman was carrying Lycan King, Klaus Tudor's child. The doctor was livid; his eyes had turned red with hostility. I knew that look—it was the kind of rage that came just before a werewolf killed.
But he didn't dare lay a hand on me.
"It's Luna to you. And I suggest you keep your mouth shut."
I had been living in Wolfkin territory for two years. I wasn't the scared, weeping girl I used to be—the one who trembled at the sight of a creature like him.
Walking out of the clinic, I found myself in deep trouble and had no idea how to handle the situation.
Pregnant?
I never imagined a human woman could even get pregnant by a werewolf. And after just one time?
What was I supposed to do now?
Should I tell Klaus? Would that stop him from stripping me of my Luna title? No. He'd probably see it as a trap—me, a powerless human, using a baby to manipulate him.
I wasn't here by choice. I was a gift from the Humankind King to Klaus—a symbol of peace between our two species. Klaus—newly crowned and unable to defy his grandfather, the old king, James Tudor—had no choice but to take me as his Luna.
But Klaus had made himself clear the first time we met. The moment his grandfather dies, he will end me.
He said, "Humans aren't worthy of being Luna."
I never understood—if he hated me so much, why didn't he just defy James?
Trying to shake the knot tightening in my chest, I finally noticed the black carriage waiting in the clinic's courtyard. It was his. Six sleek Shadowhoof horses—muscles rippling beneath ink-dark fur, eyes glowing red—stood in perfect stillness.
The window was rolled down just enough for me to glimpse the driver's seat—and his sharp, cold features. Around his neck hung a silver wolf pendant, the sacred symbol of the Lycan King. It reminded everyone exactly who ruled this land.
He was the highest authority in all of Wolfkin. And yet, despite all that power, he'd been forced to accept a human woman as his mate. After spending so long among Wolfkin, I could almost understand why he resented me so much.
I was the bargaining chip, the living contract, the unwanted Luna. Over time, I'd grown used to the bitter chill that clung to him like a second skin. And with James's health deteriorating by the day, I was starting to count down to my own execution.
Klaus, eyes closed, was resting when he sensed my approach. His brows pinched slightly, but he didn't open them. "Is it done?" His voice was emotionless, flat.
"Yes." I nodded and handed him the vial of newly developed potion I'd picked up from the dean. "Mr. Keaton sends his regards. This batch is designed to treat severe injuries and illnesses common among the clans."
I had planned to go alone, but I ran into Klaus on the way. For some reason, he decided to give me a ride.
"You'll be overseeing this project from now on," he said, not even taking the vial from my hand. With that, the carriage began to move.
I nodded in silence.
After so long, silence had become second nature. I didn't know how to do anything else—just follow orders, do what needed to be done.
Klaus was a shrewd king. Before killing me, he intended to wring every ounce of usefulness out of me. Whatever he knew I was capable of, he made me do.
In his words, "Since you've taken Luna's place, you'd better contribute. Otherwise, you're worthless to Wolfkin."
The carriage headed toward the city center. It was late afternoon. He wasn't returning to the palace—so where was he going? I was curious, but I never asked him questions.
I sat quietly, unsure how to bring up the pregnancy. Glancing sideways, I saw his eyes still shut, face impassive. He didn't even spare me a glance.
The child growing inside me was a hybrid—half werewolf, half human. And I knew all too well: if this secret got out, it wouldn't just stain Klaus's reputation. It could ignite civil war within the Wolfkin and provoke the Humankind nation to strike first.
"Klaus," I finally said, forcing the word through the knot in my throat. My hands were slick with sweat, dampening the fabric of my skirt. Werewolves had a keen sense of smell. I was certain he could already detect the subtle changes in my body.
Maybe he already knew. Maybe that was why he hadn't opened his eyes. Maybe he was figuring out what to do about the child.
If I told him ... would it hasten my death?
"Speak," he said coolly. Just one word. Empty, cold.
He always treats me coldly. After all this time, I'd stopped expecting anything else. I swallowed the fear and took a deep breath. "I ... "

Chapter 2 — Moonbound Spell

Before I could even get the words out, Klaus's wolf-fang comms device buzzed at his hip. He opened his eyes, and his voice instantly softened.
"Lila? What's wrong?" Yes, Klaus could be gentle—but only with Lila Folan. Around her, he was like a rare patch of sunlight in a cold winter.
Through the device, I could faintly hear her delicate sobbing. It had a particular frequency—one that only full-blooded she-wolves possessed and could trigger the protective instincts of every male werewolf.
I had no idea what she was saying on the other end, but Klaus's expression shifted. The carriage sensed his mood and came to a halt. He spoke into the comm, his voice low and soothing. "Alright. I'll be there soon. Stay there and wait for me."
The moment he ended the call, that warmth vanished. His cold stare landed on me.
"Out," he said—an order, not a request.
I'd heard it before. Many times. I swallowed everything I'd been about to say, nodded, opened the carriage door, and stepped down into the muddy road.
Since arriving in the Wolfkin territory, I'd learned one brutal truth: every werewolf either had a destined mate or one they chose. But in either case, once they did, their loyalty was absolute. Together with their mates, they protected their pack.
My arrival had robbed the newly crowned Lycan King of his chance to choose.
On the very night he came of age, I appeared—and he was forced to mark me. It devastated him. Maybe even made him wish he could tear me apart.
Now that the old king was near his death, Klaus had wasted no time. He commissioned a werewolf healer to brew a potion that would dissolve our mate bond—supposedly painless. All that remained was for me to drink it.
Whether it was truly a cure or a disguised poison, I didn't know. Unlike the wolves, my senses weren't sharp enough to sniff out the truth.
By the time I returned to the palace, night had fallen. The place felt as hollow as an abandoned building. The stuffed wolf heads on the walls glared at me with glassy eyes, and the fire in the fireplace cast flickering shadows that made the whole place seem haunted.
When I first came here, fear kept me awake, and I cried myself to sleep. But humans are strange—fragile yet resilient. Given time, we adapt to anything.
Pregnancy discomfort and the weight of loneliness pulled at me in equal measure. I missed my own people terribly—even if they had abandoned me, sending me into the hands of the Wolfkin like an offering.
Dragging my weary body to the chamber, I heard wolves howling in the distance. Every now and then, a crow would land on the window ledge. It was like the world was counting down the final hours of my doomed marriage and my life.
I'd thought about running. I'd even tried. But every time, I was dragged back by the guards.
Even the lowest-ranked wolf—an Omega—could track me down effortlessly.
So eventually, I gave up—waiting in silence for my ending.
Around midnight, the sudden sound of wheels on the gravel path jolted me awake.
Klaus? Is he back?
Isn't he supposed to be with Lila?
Curled up in bed, I listened as his boots thudded across the floor below. I wavered—should I tell him I'm pregnant?
Before I could make up my mind, the chamber door slammed open. He was soaked. Klaus didn't even glance at me before heading straight into the bathroom. Water thundered in the shower.
Until James passed, Klaus and I were required to live under the same roof.
Now that he was back, sleep was no longer an option. I sat up, clutching the bedsheet, a nervous flutter in my stomach.
I got dressed, fetched one of his robes from the closet, and left it by the bathroom door. Then I stepped out onto the balcony.
It was the rainy season. A light drizzle fell over the rooftops, and I could just barely hear it tapping against the stone tiles.
Behind me, I heard the bathroom door open. I turned around and saw Klaus emerge, completely bare, water trickling down the long, vicious scars on his back.
He shook his silver hair, droplets flying. The wolf-fang pendant at his throat gleamed under the light—each tooth, they said, taken from the mouth of a traitor by Klaus's own hand. "Come here," he said.
I knelt obediently on the fur rug, fingers brushing the damp strands of his hair. Before my arrival, I had heard of the Wolfkin belief, where the Alpha's hair held moon magic—strong and dangerous. I'd always been careful when touching it, afraid I might somehow trigger that power.
In the end, I kept my pregnancy a secret. Not yet. I wanted to live at least a little longer. I prayed he couldn't sense the changes in my body.
I said, "Grandpa won't last much longer. We need to visit him at the estate tomorrow morning. We need to be there early in the morning."
I spoke up—not because I had a death wish or wanted to provoke him at such a time—but because his mind was entirely wrapped around Lila. If I didn't mention James, he probably wouldn't go see him at all. And when that happened, the rest of the royal family would turn their wrath on me instead.
"Fine," he replied coldly.
I let out a quiet sigh in my heart and said nothing more. Klaus's hatred toward James ran just as deep as the resentment he held for me.
I dried his hair in silence, then lay back down, hoping to get some sleep.
Maybe it was the pregnancy, but I'd been feeling more exhausted than usual. On most nights, Klaus would head to his study after his shower and stay up past midnight. But tonight, for reasons unknown, he simply changed into his sleepwear and climbed into bed.
It was strange, but I didn't ask. Then, without warning, he pulled me into his arms. As he tugged open my nightgown, thunder cracked loudly outside the window. I instinctively shielded my belly, bracing myself as I felt the wild, restless energy pulsing off his body. Each movement was forceful, filled with the same mix of domination and punishment I'd come to expect.
As his Luna, my duty extended beyond managing his affairs; I had to endure his heat cycles too.
Because of the bond mark, he couldn't be with any other female. Only me.
And the size of the werewolf's penis was massive. Every time he entered me, the pain was sharp. I was in such pain that I often found myself breaking out in sweat. If he got even a little rough, I could be seriously hurt down there. I had thought about taking a painkiller or applying some soothing cream, but when I remembered the child growing inside me, I abandoned the idea.
Then, the wolf fang comm device on the nightstand let out a piercing screech.
Klaus reacted immediately, answering with a tenderness that never once belonged to me. "Lila, stop messing around," he said gently.
He ended the call and began getting dressed, ready to leave. Normally, I wouldn't have cared. I never asked where he went. I never said a word.
But tonight was different. Thinking about what we had to face tomorrow and the pressure from the royal family, I reached out and grabbed his arm. In a soft, pleading voice, I said, "Sire, could you stay tonight? Just this once. Tomorrow ... "
Klaus's brow furrowed, his chiseled features hardening with cold irritation. "Don't think that just because we had sex, you've earned the right to make demands," he snapped. "You're not worthy."
The wildness in his eyes flared—like the beast inside him was ready to tear through his skin. Right now, he saw me as the one thing standing between him and the woman he truly loved. If it weren't for my status—if it weren't for that cursed mark—he would've gladly torn me apart.
I stared at him for a moment, stunned, and then gave a small, bitter laugh. "James is dying," I said. "Even if you can't let her go, don't you think you should show a little restraint?"
"Is this a threat?" he hissed, narrowing his dark eyes as his hand suddenly clamped around my jaw. His voice dropped, sharp as a blade. "If that old fool hadn't restrained me with the Moonbound Spell, do you really think you would've become my Luna? Do you think you'd still be alive?"

Chapter 3 — But You Promise

Klaus's POV:
Stella stared at me, her amber eyes—so distinctly human—void of emotion, as if the hand gripping her jaw belonged to someone else.
I still remember the first time she saw me. Her entire body radiated fear—sweet, intoxicating fear.
In that moment, it was like a jolt of lightning struck straight through my soul. My wolf, Varkyn, startled me when he whispered, "This human woman is our destined mate."
I couldn't believe it. I had always assumed my fated mate would be Lila. But then the Moon Goddess revealed otherwise—it was Stella Black, a human.
As the Lycan King, magic runs in my veins. The moment my soul reacted to her, I reached out, hoping to feel that mystical connection.
But they didn't. There was nothing. Our souls didn't recognize each other. And from that day on, I lived in quiet agony.
This truth is a secret buried deep inside me. Only Varkyn knows. Stella is far too weak, and I'll never allow anyone to see that my soul is branded by her.
She looked up at me, eyes steady. "I'll drink the potion. I'll break the Moonbound Spell between us—but only if you agree to stay tonight. Come with me to see James for one last time. We both know he doesn't have long. After the funeral ... I'll leave."
Her voice was calm, but her words were ridiculous. Humans could never understand how I feel—and I certainly can't feel what's going on in their hearts either.
The Moon Goddess and James had played a cruel joke on me.
I narrowed my eyes, my dark pupils filled with a mocking amusement. "Please me," I said coldly. I released her jaw and leaned in, whispering by her ear, "Stella, in this world, you have to earn everything. Words alone mean nothing."
The first time we were intimate, I lied. I told her it was the Moonbound Spell that forced me to mate with her.
But the truth? My body had craved her from the beginning. She was too fragile to handle my strength and pace, so every time we were intimate, I had to hold back—to protect her, to care for her, even when I didn't want to.
I watched her rise onto her toes, trying to close the gap between us. The effort was awkward, almost pitiful. She looked like a pup who'd just had her tail stepped on.
Her arms wrapped around my waist, her chin tilted up toward me. But just as our bodies brushed, the restless primal desire inside me was suddenly interrupted by something familiar. A scent. Faint, but unmistakable—lily of the valley, mingled with the scent of fresh rain. It was Lila's. Her scent drifted in from beyond the manor walls.
Without thinking, I shoved Stella aside. In a flash, I crossed the room and stepped onto the balcony. And there she was—Lila, standing in the downpour, drenched and pale as snow.
Damn it. Her body had been fragile to begin with. She shouldn't be out in weather like this. I snatched the coat from the rack by the bed and bolted downstairs.
By the time I reached her, she was shivering violently. I threw the coat over her shoulders. Before I could say a word, she flung herself into my arms, clinging to me, her voice a soft sob against my chest.
"Lila ... " I sighed, brushing damp strands from her face. "You should get changed now. Otherwise, you'll catch a cold." She felt so small, like a child lost in a storm.
I brought her inside the palace and led her upstairs. And there, at the top of the staircase, was Stella. Her gaze dropped to me and Lila—soaked, holding each other—and she stepped in our way.
Didn't she see how soaked Lila was? What she should've done was run a hot bath, draw some water, or do anything to help Lila. But she just stood there.
"Move!" I snapped, the edge in my voice sharper than I intended. How could a seasoned Luna like her still not understand basic Wolfkin hospitality? Sometimes, her ignorance of our ways was embarrassing.
She raised her chin defiantly. "Sire, when we married, you promised James that as long as I was still here, she wouldn't take a single step inside this place."
A human woman, daring to draw territorial lines inside a Wolfkin palace.
"Haha!" I scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping. "This is my palace, Stella. And that old man? He's barely holding on."
I yanked her out of the way and guided Lila into the guest chamber. I didn't bother to deal with Stella anymore. Maybe I'd been too lenient with her, and now she didn't even bother showing kindness to Lila.
Lila had already been frail, and getting caught in the heavy rain only made things worse. She was burning up with a fever.
I immediately summoned the Omega attendants—trained and efficient. They changed her into dry clothes and began cooling her down with damp cloths.
They say humans are gentle and good with the sick. But Stella? She stood with her arms crossed at the door, emotionless, unmoved by Lila's burning fever.
This woman is the worst!
"You should go to the estate and say your goodbyes on your own," I muttered, tired and irritated. "Lila won't be leaving tonight."
I couldn't help it—guilt gnawed at me. Lila was the younger sister of my most trusted Gamma, a werewolf who died protecting me. I owed him more than I could ever repay.
The truth was, everything had started with Stella. When she became Luna, the traditionalists in the pack went into an uproar. To them, choosing a human as my mate made me unfit to rule. They came for me, blades drawn, ready to kill.
Stella didn't move. She just looked at me, cold and steady. "I'll go back to my chamber," she said. "But going to James's place alone tonight? That wouldn't be proper."
Proper? That's what she was worried about? No—she just didn't want another female in her space. She didn't want me alone with another female. That had to be it.
I waved her off impatiently, done with the conversation. Let her do whatever she pleased.
