Chapter 1 — The Mysterious Stranger

~YULIA
It was my mother's funeral today.
And I had watched helplessly as they put her body in the ground, sealed it so that we were separated forever and I would never see her again.
Thus, in an attempt to drown in my sorrows and wallow in self pity, I had wound up in Club Purple.
Giving in to the alcohol, allowing myself to get drunk— was the only way I felt I would be able to get through the pain of losing her.
They say you only realise the value of something until you lose it.
I let out a sad laugh as I thought of all the times I argued and rebelled against her. All the times I told her I hated her. All the times I screamed at her that she wasn't even my real mother, that I was just a child she adopted and she had no rights to boss me around.
Now I was regretting it all.
I wished that I could turn back the time and at least get to tell her how much I loved her, how much I missed her and wanted her to be here right now.
I wiped away the tears that had escaped my eyes again and downed another glass of tequila.
"Need a refill?" The kind bartender asked.
I gave him a small smile as I nodded at him. Getting high was the only way to escape the pain.
The bartender poured me another glass and I was about to down it again when my phone buzzed.
It was Mr Rogers, my mother's lawyer.
"Where are you, Yulia? You have me worried!" He exclaimed impatiently.
I rolled my eyes at his voice. "What do you want?"
"We were supposed to have a talk right after the funeral. I know it is hard for you but we need to have that talk now."
"I don't need a guardian, Rogers. I am eighteen. I can take care of myself!"
I cut the call immediately and logged him into ’Do not disturb.' The old man was beginning to get on my nerves at this point.
The last thing I wanted was some foster parent when I had just lost the only parent I ever knew. I hardly even got along with my adoptive mother, what was the guarantee that I was going to get along with this parent?
I gulped down my tequila and it was at this point that my vision began to blur.
"Shit," I cursed.
I was already intoxicated by the alcohol.
‘We should leave,’ Yara— my wolf warned from within me.
I shook my head in response and was about to pay with my phone when a sudden chill instantly erupted at the pit of my core.
I released a shocked shiver as I turned my eyes toward the entrance of Club Purple.
That was when I saw him.
A man with eyes so green they made my wolf stir with desire. I swallowed hard as I took in his build.
He was like a shadow of danger. Everything about him screamed death but in a dangerously enticing way.
He had on loose pants that complimented his towering height. Followed by a tight dark shirt that showed off his perfectly carved body. He looked older than I could ever be yet unaging, probably around his thirties or more if he was a werewolf.
A werewolf could be way over fifty and still look as if he was in his late twenties.
It was at that moment that our eyes met and I flinched. I looked away instantly as another shiver ran down my spine.
I turned to the bartender immediately and swallowed hard. The last thing I wanted was that harbinger of danger coming my way because I knew I would not be able to resist him.
I was easily drawn to dangerous things.
I released a shaky breath and told myself that if I stayed with my back turned away from him, he would get the message and move on. After all, it was not like a man as hot as him would be interested in a young adult like me.
He was probably into hotter women with insane curves.
"Hey. . ." A dangerously sexy masculine voice suddenly reached my ears— dragging me out of my thoughts and I froze just as my wolf stirred with desire.
I turned instantly only to be met with those same forest green eyes that had rumbled my soul earlier.
I blinked at him, still surprised that the hot stranger was actually sitting with me and talking to me.
"You're not from around here, are you?" I asked instead.
He smirked. "Is it that obvious?"
My eyes subconsciously ran over his hair. They looked a wet mess which gave me the urge to run my fingers through them.
And of course, my eyes moved to the exposed part of his chest. The skin underneath looked moist and I wanted to run my hands over all of his bare body.
Shit! Where the fuck were all these thoughts coming from?
What was happening to me?
Yara on the other hand could not stop dancing with desire.
I had never once met a man I badly wanted to fuck on the spot!
"It is," I managed to say.
"What would you like to have, sir?" The kind bartender asked.
I looked at the strange man again.
"What the beautiful lady is having and refills for her too."
The bartender nodded before pouring us each a glass.
I instantly downed mine like I had been doing before to hide my now flushed face.
This man had fucking called me beautiful!
"Having a bad day?" He asked, gesturing at the way I drank so fast.
Thus I thought of my mother again. "You have no idea."
"That makes two of us," he whispered. Then he downed his glass, imitating me. "Best for us to enjoy each other's company since we can relate to the pain."
I shot him a wide glare at this point and he held my gaze before his eyes began to travel down the rest of my body.
I was wearing a black t-shirt and a pair of pants. Completely plain clothes yet the way that he looked at me, it felt as if he was undressing me.
I saw myself in his arms, his lips on my skin and his cock buried within me.
My mouth instantly went dry.
What the fuck was happening to me?
"Are you trying to seduce me?" I suddenly blurted out.
He laughed. My question had caught him off guard. And when he finally stopped laughing, he scooted closer to me and ran his fingers over my cheeks.
"Do you want me to?"
Electric sensations instantly scattered across the area and traveled down to my legs.
How was it even possible? How could a simple touch from him make my body react this much?
"I'm eighteen. And you're obviously older than me," I whispered instead, hoping to discourage him.
But he smirked. "Don't you want to find out how a man as old as me can satisfy a woman as young as you?"
I widened my eyes at him. He was daring me to play with fire.
At this point, Yara was going into a frenzy within me. She was burning with desire and I doubted if I could keep her at bay long enough.
She wanted him.
I wanted him too.
But I could never openly admit that.
"Let's dance and let me show you how I can make you forget," he whispered into my ears instead.
With that, he rose to his feet and offered me his hand.
Every reasonable voice within me screamed at me to stay away from him. But my wolf and the other half of myself was roaring, salivating for him.
‘Accept him!’ Yara growled.
I sighed in defeat at the end as I gave him my hand. "Fine, let's dance."
He smiled in satisfaction as he pulled me up and led me to a spot where it was less crowded and a bit secluded.
He stopped and backed me up against the wall so that he was towering over me in the dancing red-purple lights.
"I thought we were dancing," I whispered.
He chuckled before taking both my hands and gently placing them over his shoulders. Then he leaned down to my left ear.
"We are. . ." He whispered. "But ours is a different and slow dance."
And my body began to heat up with need just from the sound of his husky whispers.
His hands rested on my waist as he began to move us slowly to the sound of the sensual music.
"Just go with the flow. . ." He added.
That was when he began to plant soft gentle kisses on my neck. It made my core erupt with emotions.
It felt crazy, dangerous and enticing at the same time.
This wasn't right.
How could I be feeling this way for a man I just met?
An older man at that!
His hands started traveling over my body, provoking more sensations, assaulting my body with feelings I had never felt before.
"I want you. . . Baby. . . You smell so fucking good, it's messing with my senses," he whispered.
"This makes no sense, you're a stranger," I managed to say in a weak voice.
"Yet it feels as if my wolf has known yours forever. . ."
I stopped and looked up at him. "Who are you?"
He smirked as he tucked my stray hair behind my ear. "I am yours. . ."
Then he crashed his lips against mine.
I should have pushed him away. I should have been disgusted. I should have been angry that he kissed me without my consent.
But I was none of that.
Instead, I was shocked by the instant fire that came alive inside of me for him. It was as if I had started burning for him. Like I existed to be with him.
My soul came alive with a desire so strong it threatened to cripple my soul. My body started trembling as my hands shot up into his hair and his hands touched me everywhere.
And when he deepened the kiss and dug his tongue into my mouth, I lost all my senses.
I became his to please and that was what terrified me the most.
I was already completely lost in his charms when my phone suddenly buzzed in my pants.
I jumped instantly and pulled away from him. I stared at him wide eyed as I tried to catch my breath.
"I— I need to go. . ." I managed to say.
He looked at me in shock. "You're leaving? Why? Did I do something wrong?"
But my tremors only intensified. I was afraid to stay even a second longer because I knew that there would be no stopping me from giving in.
"I'm sorry. I have to go!" I cried and turned instantly.
Then I broke into a run.
"Wait! You didn't even tell me your name!" I heard him call.
"Neither did you," I answered and ran out the exit door.

Chapter 2 — The Kidnappers

~YULIA
My heart was hammering hard as I ran out the exit door.
It took a lot of time to get my breathing to be even. It did not help that I was still running even after leaving the club. Street lamps were my only form of light since the crescent moon was not bright enough tonight.
I could have stopped in front of the club to wait for a cab but I was too worried that the mysterious man would follow me outside and easily find me.
It was a miracle that I had escaped him despite feeling all these emotions. And I was sure that if he somehow showed up before me again, then there would be no way that I could resist him.
"Damn, no one told me that older men were this delicious," I muttered to myself.
My phone buzzed again and this time, I stopped to pick up. After all, I felt assured that the mysterious man could no longer find me again. I had given the club enough distance that I could no longer see it.
"Lana," I began the moment I picked up the call.
"Where are you, girl? You have us worried sick!" She screamed.
Lana was my childhood friend and I could always tell when she was acting.
"Rogers put you up to this, didn't he?" I answered instead in a straight voice.
"What?" She exclaimed about to go off when her voice was cut off.
"Fine, you got me. I couldn't reach you anymore and I have a feeling you blocked my number, thus I used Lana's phone," Rogers boldly said.
I rolled my eyes at him. I hated the fact that they were now treating me like an egg. As if they were scared I was going to break if they so much as looked away from me.
"I am on my way home already. Why are you so persistent about this?"
"It's not safe for you out there. Your mother confided in me before—" he paused, refusing to say the obvious. "She said your life was in danger."
I frowned. "What are you even talking about? Why will my life be in danger?"
"I am coming to get you. Just stay exactly where you are. I have been able to pinpoint your location."
"What? You're tracking me now?" I screamed.
"I just did what I had to—"
I ended the call before he could finish the statement.
I released a frustrated growl before tucking my phone into my pocket. And as if the universe was against me, it suddenly began to rain out of the blue.
"Very funny, Moon goddess!" I called sarcastically.
That was when I felt a shift in the atmosphere and my wolf stirred with alarm. I felt the hair at the back of my neck stand. A feeling began to build up at the back of my mind, almost as if someone was stabbing a thousand spikes into me.
It was accompanied by the feeling of being watched.
I stared around the space with wide eyes. That was when I caught sight of red crimson eyes watching me from a far end of an alley.
My heart skipped triple beats and my wolf sank to the deepest part of my core. I looked away immediately and my body started trembling.
Who the fuck was that and why were they watching me?
My heart started hammering again and I dared another glance at my stalker only to see that the eyes were gone.
Had I imagined it the first time or had they really been there?
My wolf suddenly flinched and that was when I noticed a group of men coming my way.
"Shit!" I cursed before breaking into a run.
"Get her!" One of them roared. "She's the one we've been looking for!"
My heart shattered at their words. Could my mother really have been right? Was my life really in danger?
I picked up my pace and swiftly broke into a run under the rain. I had no idea where I was going. My body began to tremble violently and I thought that this was it for me.
"Surround her!" I heard another say.
I gasped. This was not good. If they surrounded me, then there was no way that I was going to make it out.
I increased my speed as I ran blindly down the empty streets. I wondered how late it was for the streets to be this dry.
My wolf was jumping around my head as she fueled me— forced me to keep running.
I thought about my sweet mother who had always protected me, while I insisted on being a rebel. I thought of her lifeless body when I found her that morning.
They said she suffered from a heart attack and I blamed myself for not being in the house with her to help her when it happened.
Was this my punishment? Was she finally getting back at me from the heavens for being an irresponsible child?
"Gotcha!" A man exclaimed as he appeared before my face.
I flinched and fell back immediately.
Laughter scattered across the space and I realised that I was now surrounded.
"It was a sweet chase but this is where it ends," Another said.
"I still don't understand why she's in high demand. Didn't the mother just die?" Another asked as I continued trembling on the ground.
"I overheard them talking about a certain Moonheart bloodline and her being connected to it," a third man said.
"But what do we care? All we do is make sure that she is delivered and this one here is the most expensive package we have ever come across," the first man said.
My heart hammered hard against my chest. My head was jumbled with multiple thoughts.
What was this they were saying about a certain Moonheart bloodline? What did it have to do with me and why was I the most expensive package?
Who were they planning to sell me to? And why was anyone willing to pay for me?
Suddenly, gunfire erupted through the night and one of the men dropped dead. I screamed in horror.
Another shot sounded and one of them yelled.
"Fuck! We're under attack! Grab the girl!" Another said.
A car suddenly came to a stop before me and the door came open. "Yulia! Get in!"
It was Mr. Rogers' voice.
So as one of them made to grab me, I instantly shot to my feet and ran so hard. I had never run as hard as this my entire life as adrenaline shot through my bones.
"Don't let her get away!" I heard them say.
I was almost at the car when one of them grabbed me. "You're coming with us, bitch!" He yelled.
"Let me go!" I screamed as I started thrashing around his hold.
"Hey, asshole!" Mr Rogers called.
That was when he revealed a gun and shot the man in the head. He went limb immediately and dropped to the floor with a hard thud.
My tremors intensified as shock left me frozen on the spot, unable to move for a split second.
"Yulia! Get in!" Rogers roared and it snapped me out of my trance.
That was when I resumed running again. The moment I launched myself into the car, he shut the door and zoomed off.

Chapter 3 — Saved By Him

~YULIA
"My head. . ." I groaned.
It was morning already sadly, and my head was banging. A reminder of all my escapades from last night.
Indeed, last night was crazy. Everything about it was wrong and I was still trying to wrap my head around it.
From the mysterious man who kissed me and caused my wolf to react as if he was the one I had been awaiting for ages.
To the strange crimson eyes in the dark, the men who tried to take me and last of all, Rogers who murdered those men like it was a habit.
Nothing made sense to me anymore.
I entered the shower and allowed the water to wash away all of my doubts.
As if that was possible.
I eventually stepped out of the bathroom, cleaned myself dry before throwing on some clean clothes. I chose a big t-shirt and a pair of shorts. I did not even bother to dry my dark hair before hurrying out of my room for breakfast.
I heard voices even before I got to the kitchen. One of them belonged to Rogers while the other belonged to Madelaine, our house keeper.
I entered the kitchen and dragged a seat while glaring daggers at Rogers. I had dozens of questions for him but I chose to wait until Madelaine was out of the kitchen.
"Morning, sweet child. I made you your favorite," she announced and placed a plate of pancakes and honey drippings.
I watched as the petite woman dressed in black went to the fridge and brought out an apple juice for me.
"Thank you," I whispered and she nodded before hurrying out of the space.
When it was just Rogers and I, I decided to face him.
"How do you have guns?" I began as my wolf came to a stop, waiting attentively to hear his response.
He smiled. "You should be grateful I have them, or you would have been taken."
I narrowed my eyes at him. This man had killed two people last night. Even if they were criminals, he looked unfazed by it, like he had done it before.
When he saw that I was still stiff, he decided to keep talking. "My father was once a Beta of this pack. So, he taught me how to use guns for protection and I am a licensed owner."
I corked my brows at him. This made more sense though. Yet I was still terrified by the fact that he was an easy killer.
"After what happened last night, I'm sure you understand why you need to be more careful and why it's important you have a powerful guardian," he said.
I frowned at him. "What are you talking about? What guardian?"
"According to Mariana, may her blessed soul rest in peace— she stated in her Will that before you can inherit any of her wealth, you need to move in with her step brother," he dropped the bomb.
I shot to my feet instantly. "What!"
My heart started hammering heavily and I gritted my teeth.
This was outrageous! This was beyond my tolerance level!
"I don't need a guardian! I can protect myself! I am eighteen! I am not twelve!" I roared.
Rogers watched me patiently, waiting for my outburst to end. And it only intensified the angry dance of my wolf.
"We all know you are eighteen, Yulia. You've never failed to remind us about it every time you get the chance to."
I gritted my teeth as I folded my arms at him. "So why do you still treat me like a child?"
He shook his head at me. "It's not about being treated like a child. It's about your safety. All we want is for you to be safe, away from the people searching for you," he announced.
"Who are they? Why do they want me?" I demanded stubbornly.
"I do not have the answer to that question," he stated.
"Then I'm not moving in with any brother of hers. There's no way I'm going to live with someone who's never come visiting my entire life," I stated, grabbed my phone and stormed out of the kitchen.
"Yulia! Wait! It's not safe for you—"
But I was already out the main door before he could finish speaking.
I made a run for the trees. I always found comfort running through the woods whenever I argued with my late mother.
Yet running now only seemed to bring me more pain as it was reminding me of her, rather than taking my mind off my problems.
Why was all of this happening to me? And why now? All at once?
It felt as if my life was falling apart!
And I—
"Aaah!"
I suddenly let out a shocked scream as I lost my footing and began to fall into a deep trench I had not noticed earlier.
The spiky woods underneath had my eyes instantly wide open and I knew that I would be meeting my end when I eventually reached the bottom.
Or so I thought, until a hand shot out of the blue— from above and grabbed my wrist!
My body stopped falling instantly and all of me clung desperately to the hand that was now holding me in place.
Whoever it was easily pulled me out and wrapped me in his arms.
"It's okay, I got you," The familiar sexy masculine voice said and I froze.
It was him!
And in shock for the millionth time today, I swiftly pulled away from him and looked up only to be met with those same forest green eyes that had the power to cripple my soul.
"You!" I cried.
He shrugged. "You'd think I'd get a thank you instead."
He smiled at me, a one sided smile that made my wolf shift with need.
"What are you doing here? Are you following me?" I demanded instead while shaking off the remains of the tremors of my near death experience.
He raised his thick dark brows. "Maybe."
I widened my eyes at him.
"I actually have unfinished business around this area and I was getting to that until I caught your scent in the air. . ." He trailed deliberately. "I just had to come after you since you left me hanging last night."
I frowned at him as I tried hard not to be affected by his entire presence.
"Last night was a mistake. I was drunk and I had no idea what I was doing!" I exclaimed.
"If all you say is true, then why can I hear your heart racing so fast?" He asked barely over a whisper.
And I froze because I noticed for the first time how my heart was pounding like crazy. How Yara had begun to dance with need. How my body had resumed his tremors—
All because of him.
I swallowed hard and staggered back until my back hit a tree, the deep trench was now far away from us and the sexy stranger did what I half expected.
He came after me.
"Are you trying to run from me?" He whispered the moment he appeared before me.
The movement had been so fast that I barely saw him move. How could he move at such speed? Who exactly was this man?
I released a shaky shudder.
"Running from you is the best thing for me. I don't want anything to do with you," I managed to say and I felt Yara growl in protest.
"Again, if what you say is true, why does Yara say otherwise?"
My eyes went wide. Did he just call my wolf's name? No one is supposed to know my wolf's name except as the many myths say— my mate.
This man couldn't possibly be my mate, could he?
"How do you know my wolf? Who are you?" I shakily asked.
And he leaned lower to my face's level, locking his now glowing forest green eyes with mine.
"I already told you before. . . I am yours," he whispered and that was when he connected our lips as one.
I had fooled myself into thinking that I would push him away if it happened again.
Yet my bones went weak under his touch. My body began to tremble with need and I wanted him to do more than kiss me.
I wanted him to undress me right here and do to me whatever was going through his mind.
Fuck! I wanted him!
I needed him!
I was burning for him.
He ran his warm left palm over my chest, down to my waist and over my hips. I released a shudder as his kisses moved to my neck and electric sensations assaulted my soul.
He lifted my thigh and I could swear that my body burned harder under the spots that he touched.
This was wrong. This was forbidden yet my body was burning with excitement.
"Homegirl!" Lana's voice suddenly tore across the woods and reached my ears.
This startled me and I jumped as I pushed him away.
"Homegirl! Where are you?" She called again.
She was close.
My heartbeat accelerated. The last thing I wanted was for Lana to catch me kissing a random stranger in the woods the day after my mother's funeral.
I looked at him helplessly and he must have sensed the struggle in my eyes because the moment I looked away toward her voice and turned back to look at him, he was gone.
Gone like he was never here to begin with.
