Chapter 1
FEYRE
I lowered my head as Alpha Grant approached me.
"Come and get my dirty laundry from my room," he ordered.
"Yes, Alpha," I lowered my head as I answered.
He walked away quickly.
"Poor you, you have been working all morning and yet you still have to do the dishes," Stella, my fellow servant, sympathized with me.
"It's okay, it's my duty," I said with a shrug.
I excused myself and went to the Alpha's room.
I knocked on the door lightly.
"Come in," he answered.
I pushed open the door and walked in.
"I am here to pick up your laundry, Alpha."
He stood up, a lazy smile on his face, as he pulled me closer to him.
"Hmmm, you can do that later," he whispered.
He kissed me gently at first and then with passion as he lowered me to the bed.
I sighed with pleasure as his hands quickly removed my clothes and touched me.
Goddess! He knew how to make me feel good. It was like my body was a musical instrument and he alone knew how to play it.
He thrust into me over and over as I held on to him tightly.
I tightened around him as I reached the peak of pleasure, and a few minutes after, he stiffened and relaxed on me.
I gently stroked his hair as he lay on me. This was my favorite part, where he just let his guard down and was comfortable with me.
He stood up, to my disappointment, and went to take a shower. I lay in bed and watched him as he came out of the bathroom and dressed up in front of the mirror.
"Aren't you going to dress up?" he asked.
I stood up, a wry smile on my face; it seemed our happy time was over.
"I will be going on a brief trip out of the pack. Arrange two bags with travel essentials," he instructed me.
My heart leapt for joy. Was he taking me on a trip? Were my days of being his secret over?
"Are you taking me on a trip, Grant?" I asked excitedly.
He turned to look at me, a frown on his face. "Why would I take you? I am going with Anna."
My smile vanished immediately. Of course, he was taking Anna. Why would he take his omega servant on a trip? "Sorry for the misunderstanding, Alpha Grant. I will quickly pack the bags."
He sighed as he came to sit beside me on the bed. "Feyre, don't be like this. You make me upset when you behave this way."
"I am sorry, Alpha Grant. I just think since Anna is back to the pack and her mate is deceased, you two have been hanging out a lot..."
"So, where are you going with this?" he interrupted me.
"I just think we should end this affair."
He grabbed my chin forcefully.
"I am the one who would end this when I want to, not you. Is that understood?" he asked me.
I nodded.
He grabbed his wallet and placed some money on the bed.
"Here, you can get yourself some things from the market."
"Grant, I... I... don't want to be just your secret mistress," I told him in a tentative voice.
He stood up and looked at me. "Feyre, you are young and you are also an omega. I can't make you my mate."
"Understood, Alpha Grant," I replied.
He patted my head like I was a puppy.
"Just know your place. Is that understood?"
I nodded.
"Now dress up and leave."
I quickly dressed up and left his room. I took his laundry as well to avoid suspicion.
This was how it had always been; I sneaked in and out of his room like a thief.
As I set the basket down, I suddenly heard a ringing sound in my ear.
I grimaced as I remembered the cause of it. For some reason, Gia, Grant's younger sister, had hated me since we were students at the regional werewolf high school. From taunting and calling me names, she graduated to beating me up.
I suffered in silence until I stood at the top of the highest building in school, about to jump off. A guard had seen it; he had then saved me and escalated the matter.
It had been a big scandal: Alpha Ryder's younger sister bullying a young orphaned omega.
To save face, Grant had her removed from school and sent her away and took me into his household. I had offered to join the other omegas who worked there in doing chores.
That day he had patted my head and told me I was safe with him.
I smiled as I remembered those early days. He had been so charming. Sneaking looks at me, stolen kisses, affection, and so on.
For someone like me, an orphan who had grown up bullied and abandoned, I had fallen for him completely.
But now, I realized that Grant didn't love me. To him, I was just someone he used to settle his urges and kill boredom.
"Feyre, Alpha wants you to serve his guest juice. She is in his study," Stella told me.
I nodded as I set aside the laundry and went to get the juice.
I carried it into the study and almost stumbled in shock. It was Anna. She looked so pretty, elegant, and everything I was not.
"Your juice, ma'am," I told her as I put the tray down. I hoped my voice wasn't shaky.
"Thank you," she murmured.
I looked at her again. She was so perfect. Compared to her, I was nothing.
I quickly excused myself and left the study. As I returned to the kitchen, I heard the servants discussing.
"I heard Alpha and Anna are going on a romantic trip. Once they come back, they will make things official and hold the mate ceremony properly."
"That's good news. They are such a perfect couple."
"Soon, we are going to have a Luna."
My hands were shaking as I filled my glass with water from the tap.
As I raised it to my mouth, it slipped and fell. I bent down to pick up the pieces, cutting my fingers. I winced as I packed the glass pieces and then put my injured fingers under the tap.
Grant was taking Anna as his mate. Everybody knew except me.
I was such a fool.
"Feyre, the Alpha wants you to drive him and Anna out of the pack tomorrow," Stella came to inform me.
"Thank you," I told her.
Grant was cruel. There were a lot of people who could drive, so why then would he pick me?
He wanted to teach me a lesson.
Grant was just like his sister, even worse.
I went to my room and picked up my phone and began to text someone I had sworn to never contact.
Alpha Ryder of Crescent pack.
Dear Alpha Ryder, I wish to accept your request to being your mate...
I looked at my phone screen. Only Alpha Ryder could save me from this pack and its members. I just wished his offer was still open. I needed to escape.
Chapter 2
FEYRE
I went back to the kitchen and joined the other servants to prepare the ingredients for lunch.
"Feyre, come here please," Anna had entered the kitchen.
I went to meet her. I tried to maintain eye contact with her, but I was an omega and my body betrayed me; I looked down.
"I need you to help me get things for the trip."
"Okay, ma'am. What do you need?" I asked.
She handed me a list. "Just the things on the list."
I looked at the list; my eyes stopped on an item: Merrygold.
She blushed lightly. "I forgot to get some from the healers. Help me get some, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am," I answered.
She smiled and left.
I couldn't even hate her; she was a nice person. Unlike the other werewolves who treated omegas like we were nothing, she was always nice to me.
I went out to get the things she wanted. When I got to the healers, I was given the Merrygold; it had already been processed into powder form.
Merrygold was an herb that would make a male werewolf unable to impregnate any woman he slept with for twenty-four hours after taking it.
The first time I had slept with Grant, I was nineteen and it was my birthday.
He had given me leftovers from his dinner. I had been happy because, as an omega, I didn't have access to such delicacies.
He hadn't taken merrygold or even offered to take it. He had instead given me rosegold, the contraceptive for female werewolves, which gave me nausea and headaches.
Now, with Anna, he was going to take it willingly.
It was really clear to me now that all I was to him was his bedmate who had to sneak in and out of his bed.
I went back to the pack house and handed her the items.
"Thank you," she said with a smile as she took the bag which contained the items from me.
"Grant, everything is ready for the trip," she turned around to tell him.
He came close to her, a doting smile on his face. He had never looked at me like that before.
He touched her and she shivered a little. "Are you cold? Feyre, lock the windows," he ordered me.
I went to close the windows. When I looked back, he was putting his jacket around her.
"Alpha, may I be excused?" I asked politely, willing my eyes not to fill with tears.
"Anna, do you need her to help you with anything?"
"No, I am fine. She can go."
He made a dismissive gesture with his hand. With my head lowered, I left the room.
The next morning, I received a reply to the text I had sent to Alpha Ryder.
My offer is still open. Come to my pack in eight days' time so we can discuss further details. Meet me at the pack house by 8 p.m.
I immediately deleted the text. It wasn't in my best interest for anybody to read that text, not when Alpha Ryder and Grant were bitter enemies.
I dressed up quickly. I had to drive Grant and Anna to the pack boundary.
I prayed to the goddess for strength to get through today.
"Don't you think we should go with some guards?" Anna asked as she snuggled into him.
"Anna, I am the Alpha of this pack. We will be driving through our forests and through other packs as well. No one would be stupid enough to attack us," he comforted her.
I rolled my eyes. He could have simply asked the guards to come with them, but instead he asked me because he wanted to prove a point. Well, his point was being received well by me.
"Okay, let's go," he said. He didn't even have the decency to look at me.
I grunted as I carried the bags to the car. Although werewolves were powerful, I was an omega; carrying the heavy bags was taking a toll on me physically.
"Feyre, can you carry the bags alone? They are quite heavy. Let me help," she came closer to me and reached out to take a bag.
"Anna, she can carry the bags herself. That's her duty," Grant pulled her away.
Anna gave me a smile as Grant pulled her away.
I sighed. I couldn't even hate her. She was really nice. If she became the next Luna, I could tell she would be great at it.
I put the bags in the car and opened the car door so they could get in. I closed the door and got into the driver's seat and started to drive.
We drove through the forest. I watched enviously through the mirror as he whispered in her ear and kissed her.
He had never done this for me; he even made it a point to avoid eye contact with me in public.
"Feyre, are you tired?" Anna leaned forward to ask me.
"I am fine, ma'am," I assured her.
I felt something sinister in the air. Something wasn't right.
"Alpha Grant, I think something is wrong," I spoke out.
"Stop being lazy and drive, Feyre," he replied.
And then there were squeaks as cars suddenly blocked us and we were surrounded.
They came down from the car and banged on the car windows for us to come down.
They were rogue wolves; I could smell it on them.
"Grant!" Anna screamed.
He immediately shielded her with his body while I was in the driver's seat alone.
"I am Grant, Alpha of Silvermoon pack. If you leave now, I can consider sparing your life," he threatened.
They ignored him and kept snarling, surrounding the car. One of them punched the window and I screamed as the glass shattered.
"Let's get down," Grant said.
"I am scared," Anna said. Grant held her.
"Everything will be fine. Trust me."
He didn't even spare a glance at me as he helped her out of the car.
My door was ripped off and I was forced out of the car.
His bones twisted as he shifted to his wolf form.
Still, he stood in front of Anna.
Anna was a strong werewolf who could defend herself; I was just an omega. Shouldn't he even show a little concern?
But it seemed I wasn't even there. A fierce fight started. Anna even shifted to her wolf form.
I quivered in a corner. I hated this; I hated feeling this way, feeling useless.
A werewolf noticed me and came towards me. I shifted back.
More of them noticed and were heading towards me.
"Grant, please help!" I screamed.
Grant had shifted back to his human form and had sneaked into the car with Anna and was quickly driving away.
"Grant, please, don't leave!" I screamed.
My eyes closed as I felt fear envelope me. This was the exact way I had felt all those years when Gia and her friends had bullied me.
Then, Grant had saved me; now he was leaving me.
Maybe it would be better if I died, I thought to myself.
Chapter 3
FEYRE
I didn't die. I opened my eyes in disappointment as I stared at the walls.
"Oh goddess, finally you are awake!" Stella exclaimed. She was sitting by my side.
"What happened?" I asked.
"You were attacked by rogues. The pack warriors trailing behind you guys rescued you just in time," she explained.
"Pack warriors were trailing behind us?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes, Alpha Grant wouldn't just leave without proper security," she told me.
I shifted and winced at the pains I felt.
"Oh, so sorry. I will get one of the healers to check on you," Stella stood up.
I held her hand. "Wait, what about the Alpha?" I asked, worried about him.
"Well, he brought Miss Anna here to check her leg; she had a sprain. As soon as the healers confirmed that was all she had, Miss Anna wanted to continue their trip, so they left the next day."
"Thanks, Stella."
She nodded and left the room to call the healer.
As the healer checked me and asked questions, my mind wasn't even there. I answered him absentmindedly.
I was thinking of Grant. He had gone on his romantic trip the next day without even a thought for me.
He was with her now, being lovey-dovey while I was in pain.
I closed my eyes as I tried to shut the pain away. I wouldn't cry for Grant; he didn't deserve it.
Five days later, I was back to doing my chores in the pack house. All the servants could talk about was how romantic Grant had been when he brought Anna back after the attack.
"He carried her in. He was so caring as he ordered the healers to attend to her," Stella remarked.
I was in the forest being attacked by rogues and bleeding while Grant was ordering the healers to attend to a simple sprain.
"Miss Anna is so lucky to have Alpha Grant in her life," another servant remarked.
"Yes, a handsome and loyal man who loves her a lot."
I scoffed. A loyal man who kept me as his bedmate.
There was a door slam and a servant rushed into the kitchen.
"Gia is back!" she exclaimed.
I froze in fear. Gia was back! She wasn't supposed to be back. Grant had sent her away after the bullying and he had told me he would keep her away from me.
Had he forgotten what he said? Why was she here?
She entered the kitchen and went straight to me.
She grabbed my hair and slammed it into the sink. The water from the tap poured over my head.
I struggled, but she kept my head under the tap. When she pulled me back up, she slapped me hard across my cheek.
"You bitch! Because of you, my brother sent me away. Who the hell do you think you are?"
I shivered, unable to say anything.
Just like that, I was back to being a young girl being terrified as Gia hit me over and over.
The other servants watched. Nobody would say anything. Who would dare to stand up to her?
"I see you are surprised I am back, right? I am here for Grant's mating ceremony and I am not leaving."
My heart was beating so fast.
She leaned in to whisper in my ear. "If I were you, I would leave this pack. Otherwise, I would tell everyone about how you have been sleeping with Grant."
I was terrified. How had she known about that?
"Do you think I don't know? You are a tiny slut and you seduced Grant. Did you think he would make you his mate?"
I swallowed back my tears; I wouldn't cry.
She slammed my head against the sink again and left.
I stood up and left the kitchen.
I went to my room and changed out of my wet clothes. There was a knock on the door; Stella came in.
"Oh Feyre, what did you do to Gia?"
I patted my head with my towel. I wish I knew what I did to Gia exactly.
"It's okay, Stella. Everything is fine," I assured her.
Stella nodded, although she didn't look convinced.
In three days' time, I would be meeting with Alpha Ryder and hopefully that would be my freedom. Away from this pack, Grant, and Gia.
I stayed away from Gia, hiding away in my room.
Three days later...
Stella came into my room. "The Alpha is back and he wants to see you in the study," she informed me.
"Thanks, Stella." She smiled and left my room.
I stood up and went to the study. He was back from his romantic trip and had finally remembered I existed.
I knocked gently on the door. "Come in," he called out.
I opened the door and entered.
He was checking a paper. I stood waiting for him to acknowledge me. This was how it was with him.
"How have you been?" he asked.
"I have been fine," I told him.
"I bought you something from my trip." He stood up and came closer to me.
He took my hand and clasped an expensive-looking bracelet on my wrist.
"Thanks," I muttered.
He must have heard about what Gia did and thought the bracelet could make up for it.
A bracelet I couldn't even wear, because how would I explain how an orphan omega like me could afford it?
He caressed my cheek and then leaned in to kiss me. I turned my face away.
"Feyre?"
"You are getting mated soon, Alpha. I think we should stop doing this."
He gripped my chin tightly. "We will stop when I decide."
The door opened and I quickly stepped away from him.
"Grant, I have been looking for you." She went to give him a hug.
I quickly unclasped the bracelet and hid it in my pocket.
"Feyre, how are you doing? I hope your injuries from the attack weren't too severe?"
"No, ma'am. Thanks for your concern."
She stepped forward and held my hands.
"I felt so guilty you got injured because you drove us."
"Oh, it's nothing, ma'am. Nobody could have predicted it."
"But still, I feel guilty about it. Why not come to my birthday party tomorrow? I and my friends are just organizing a little hangout."
"But ma'am, I am just a servant," I protested. I was an omega; why would she invite me to her birthday party?
"Feyre, it doesn't matter. You are my guest."
"But ma'am..."
"She will be there," Grant interrupted me.
I looked at him in surprise. Why would he want me to be there?
"Okay, it's settled then. I will see you tomorrow," Anna said with a smile. She kissed Grant and left the room.
"Why would you want me to go to the party?" I asked him in a whisper.
"Because I don't want her to suspect anything."
"But..."
"You can leave now, Feyre," he dismissed me. I gritted my teeth and left.
