Chapter 1 — Betrayal
Jennifer's POV:
"Are you really going to marry that jerk?"
As I, Jennifer Hudson, admired myself in the mirror wearing the wedding dress I had always dreamed of, Brian Carney was staring at me. His face clouded with disapproval.
I knew he never liked my boyfriend, Claude Miller. However, Claude loved me. He had never cared that I was an Omega, and I was thrilled to be marrying him.
I hooked my arm through Brian's, smiling as I tried to soothe him. "Brother, trust me. I'll be happy."
"Jennifer, how many times have I told you? Stop calling me brother."
Brian grumbled, his brown eyes fixating on me. I could tell he wanted to say more. When I gave him an encouraging look, he clamped his mouth shut.
After a while, he ruffled my hair with a grumpy sigh. "Tomorrow, you won't be mine anymore."
There was an undertone of sadness in his words, but they left me confused. I always thought he didn't care much for me.
My father used to be the Beta of the Red Moon Pack, but he disappeared during a battle against the rogues. They searched for him for a long time but never found him. The Alpha of the pack, Marcus Carney, who had been close friends with my father, took me in as part of his family.
That was how Brian became my stepbrother. I always believed he didn't like me. I'd heard that the day the Alpha suggested adopting me, Brian had protested. It wasn't surprising, really. Even when we were kids, he would tease me. Brian was the future Alpha of the Red Moon Pack, while I was a weak, shiftless Omega—he had every reason not to like me.
Brian even argued with his father, but no one could defy the Alpha's decision. Just like that, I became the Alpha's youngest daughter and Brian's stepsister. From that day on, Brian gave me the cold shoulder and forbade me from getting close to him.
At first, I tried to mend our relationship. I made him delicious macaroni once, but he didn't appreciate it. If I accidentally touched him, he would push me away so hard that it sometimes hurt. That's right; he couldn't stand me touching him, as if I was something filthy.
Yet, when others bullied me, Brian always stood up for me. I figured it was probably because his father ordered him to protect me.
Our relationship only started improving when my father returned. Three years ago, I caught his scent and found him unconscious by a stream. He was battered, his neck scarred from burns. My father had endured so much pain to make it back. I was no longer an orphan. I was freed from the Alpha-daughter bond. That day, for the first time, I saw Brian smile, though it was fleeting.
After that, Brian became kinder, though he still refused to let me call him brother. Still, he would always be my family in my heart.
"No, you'll always be my brother."
After I said that, his expression darkened. I looked into his eyes, trying to understand why. Brian turned his head away and left the room quickly.
"Weird!" I muttered, brushing it off. Brian's odd behavior wasn't exactly new.
I twirled happily in front of the mirror, but then I noticed something missing—the veil!
"Oh no!" I quickly took off the wedding dress and threw on some casual clothes. After that, I drove to Claude's house. That guy always forgot things, and today it was my veil. If I went to his place now, we'd get to see each other for a bit, and that made me happy. I was sure Claude would be happy to see me, too.
I didn't call ahead because I wanted to surprise him.
As I thought about our future together, a smile crept onto my face. After tomorrow, Claude and I would finally be together forever.
When I arrived, I slipped off my shoes and headed for the living room. Suddenly, I heard a woman's moaning coming from the master bedroom.
What the hell? Why is there a woman's voice here?
Shocked, I noticed the bedroom door was slightly ajar. The woman's moan was unmistakable as it drifted through the door crack.
Rage flared up inside me. My legs felt heavy, yet I couldn't stop myself from moving closer.
I stood in the doorway, each sensual sound hitting me like a sledgehammer and tearing a new wound in my heart.
The door was ajar. A light push opened it further.
There, on the floor, lay a pair of beige high heels. A woman's bra and panties were tossed carelessly beside them.
Fighting back the fury and panic rising within me, I turned my gaze toward the bed. And with just one glance, it felt as though a dagger had sliced through my chest, leaving me gasping for breath.
Chapter 2 — I Hate You
Jennifer's POV:
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Maya Hawkin, my best friend of seven years and my closest confidante, was tangled up with my fiancé that I was supposed to marry tomorrow.
Each breath felt like agony. Claude's hands, which once swore loyalty only to me, were now caressing Maya's body—her chest, her waist, even her vagina. It was unbearable to watch.
He was so lost in his desire that he didn't even notice me standing there in the doorway. I witnessed everything. I could see the satisfaction on his face as he entered her, the way Maya threw her head back and moaned in pleasure. Their bodies were entangled and utterly consumed by lust.
But that should have been our bed. I should have been the one underneath Claude, not Maya. They had betrayed me.
Rage and humiliation crashed over me in waves. I clenched my fists tightly and wanted nothing more than to rip them apart. I stepped forward, but then Maya's eyes met mine. She had seen me, but instead of fear or guilt, there was only defiance.
Maya wrapped her arms tighter around Claude. She ran her hands over his back, and her moans became louder. She was doing this on purpose and wanted me to see. I couldn't take it anymore. "Claude!" I screamed, my voice raw with emotion.
Tears streamed down my face as Claude turned. He was shocked to see me, and he quickly scrambled off Maya. His expression was frantic. In his panic, he didn't even bother to cover his naked body.
His desire vanished in an instant, replaced by sheer terror as he fumbled to cover his nakedness.
"Jennifer, I can explain ... "
"What is there to explain?" I shot back, my voice breaking. "I saw everything! What lie are you going to tell me now?"
My heart ached so much I could barely breathe, though a small part of me foolishly hoped his explanation might make it better. But before he could speak, Maya stood up. She made no effort to cover herself; her body was marked with countless bites from Claude.
She walked over to me, smiling like she had won some kind of twisted game. Maya revealed, "Leo is Claude's son."
Leo Hawkin. Maya's three-year-old son ... was Claude's.
Whatever fragile hope I had left shattered in that moment. My mind reeled as the weight of her words sank in, as though the world had just collapsed around me.
I looked to Claude, praying he would deny it and give me something, anything. However, things didn't happen as I wished.
He didn't. His eyes lowered, filled with guilt. Without a single word of protest, Claude had silently confirmed Maya's words.
It felt like my heart had been ripped from my chest. I wanted to scream and hit him, but the pain inside me was too overwhelming. It choked me, leaving me unable to speak.
I was furious. I was filled with hatred.
How could they do this to me? For seven years, I had loved them both—one as my partner, the other as my best friend. But they had been deceiving me all along. They even had a child together.
"You b*tch!"
I couldn't hold back the anger and humiliation any longer. I slapped Maya across the face with all the strength I had left. The impact stung my hand, but it didn't compare to the pain in my heart.
"Enough! Jennifer, don't think so highly of yourself!"
Claude rushed forward and shoved me to the ground. He was shielding Maya in his arms. Claude pointed out the brutal truth, "You're nothing but a weak, wolfless Omega. Who else but me would marry you? If you still want to marry me, forget what just happened. Pretend you didn't see anything!"
The pain in my body was nothing compared to the agony in my heart. How could he say such cruel words? Was all of his love a lie? Tears streamed down my face as I stood, trembling. "Claude, you promised me. You said you'd love only me. You knew how much I've been looking forward to this wedding."
"Yes, yes, I know," Claude said, letting go of Maya and walking over to me. "So, just act like you didn't see anything, okay? I still love you, Jennifer. I'm still willing to marry you. You don't have to stop me from being with Maya. The three of us together—it could work, right?"
"Enough!"
I shoved Claude's hand away. His words disgusted me. Even his touch made my skin crawl. His body still carried Maya's scent.
"I hate you!"
I screamed the words at him, my voice breaking as all the strength drained from my body.
Then I ran. I didn't know where I was going, but I ran as fast as I could. Running was the only thing that kept me from reliving what I had just witnessed.
Seven years of love led up to what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Tomorrow, we were supposed to be together forever.
But everything I saw tonight completely shattered all my dreams. Claude was no longer the man who once swore he loved me and promised to spend his life with me. He had betrayed me!
I ran aimlessly until my legs gave out and I tumbled down a hillside. Finally, I crashed into a shallow stream. I knew where I was—on the outskirts of the Red Moon Pack territory. It was a dangerous place, somewhere I'd normally never go. But tonight, I didn't care. I didn't even try to stand. I had lost my rationality. I just sat there in the cold water, sobbing until a familiar voice broke through my despair.
"Jennifer? What are you doing here?"
I turned and saw Brian standing behind me. His lower body was submerged in the water.
"Brian?"
I choked out in shock. And then, suddenly, I realized—Brian was naked.
Chapter 3 — My Stepbrother
Jennifer's POV:
"Urghh!"
I screamed and tried to turn around, but Brian was faster. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of me, gripping my shoulders, preventing me from moving.
"Jennifer, are you crying? Why? Who hurt you?"
His closeness made me instinctively shut my eyes. I could clearly see everything, even though Brian's lower body remained submerged in the water. He was ... enormous, especially when compared to Claude.
The thought made me shiver. Oh no, Jennifer, how could you even think like that? Brian is your brother! You didn't see anything!
He only rushed over because he's worried about you! How could you, dear Jennifer, misunderstand your beloved brother's intentions?
I scolded myself internally, trying to block out the image I had just seen. "Brian, you should put on some clothes."
"Tell me who hurt you!" Brian shook my shoulders urgently and demanded an answer. "Was it that jerk, Claude?"
I could tell from his voice that he was furious, but I wasn't afraid. Instead, I felt his deep concern underneath his anger. Suddenly, a wave of sorrow surged from within me. My emotions were on the verge of spiraling out of control. I covered my face and sobbed. "Yes, Brian, you're right. He's a jerk! He betrayed me with Maya!"
Seven years. For seven years, I never suspected there was something between them, because they were the two people I trusted the most.
But now, these two—these two people I thought I knew—betrayed me. How could anyone be more pathetic than I am right now?
Images of Maya, naked, moving wildly on top of Claude flashed through my mind. Maya's twisted face conveyed a mixture of laughter and disgust.
And then Leo ... it turns out he's Claude's son. They weren't just having an affair—they had a child. I always thought Maya didn't talk about Leo's father because it was too painful. Because of this, I had tiptoed around the subject for years. Now, I realize just how absurd I had been.
I cried so hard that I could barely breathe, forgetting everything around me, lost in my grief. Suddenly, I heard the unmistakable cracking of bones. Did Brian just shift?
Stunned, I was confused. Before I could react, I felt something soft and furry nudge my arm gently, as if afraid to hurt me.
Brian's voice came through our telepathic connection, "Get on."
I opened my eyes in surprise and found myself face-to-face with a magnificent wolf. His eyes glowed faintly blue in the moonlight, and his thick fur shimmered with an ethereal sheen. He was beautiful.
It was Brian. I hadn't seen his wolf form in years. Now, he was bigger, stronger, and more imposing than I remembered. His presence demanded respect. Brian's destiny to become the most powerful Alpha was evident to anyone who saw him.
Yet, in this moment, Brian crouched slightly. It was waiting for me to climb onto its back.
I was stunned. No one could ride Brian, the future Alpha of the Red Moon Pack.
No one, except maybe one person—his future Luna.
