Chapter 1 — I'm Back

Zia Sullivan's POV:
"Oh my god, it stinks in here! Isn't that bitch dead yet? She should be dead by now!"
"An Alpha's resilience is truly remarkable…"
"Hmph, that bitch should've died long ago, we were too kind for her letting her live a few more years!"
I struggled to open my eyelids. Through my blurry vision, I saw Xander Grant and Sydney Sullivan walking towards the cage where I was being held captive.
"Damn it, the smell's worse than a rat's nest!" Sydney deliberately raised her voice, allowing it to pierce through the darkness, along with her scent of rose perfume.
The Beta badge she wore on her neck glinted in the moonlight, its wolf head emblem embedded with synthetic sapphires. That was meant to be my coming-of-age gift, but now it hung around the neck of the traitor.
With each click of her high heels on the ground, the silver chain around her waist made a faint snake-like hissing sound, for it was a decoration made from the medals of fallen warriors in the Moonlight Pack.
They had been torturing me for over three years.
I was hidden in the basement, locked in a cage, and completely naked. I was covered in dirt, and my hair was like a heap of dry grass, as I hadn't had a bath for a long time.
The whole basement was filled with a foul smell.
My name was Zia Sullivan. I was the daughter of the Alpha in the Moonlight pack, and I was also an Alpha.
But now, I was like a rat in a sewer, my whereabouts unknown, dying in a basement!
I was holding a corpse tightly in my arms. It had already started to rot; that was why there was a stench in the basement.
He was Jacob Holt. He was originally my destined mate and also an Alpha of a pack.
But I had rejected him as my mate.
Unexpectedly, in the end, he found me and sacrificed himself in front of me to save me.
Jacob had died, and his body was thrown into my cage.
Since that day, I had started to fast.
The two people in front of me were the culprits of my current situation, and they were also my only two family members left in this world.
The man was my husband, Xander Grant, originally the lowest-ranked Omega of the Moonlight pack.
Ten years ago, in order to marry him, I had rejected my destined mate, causing endless pain to Jacob.
But in the end, he still betrayed me. He even joined forces with an enemy pack and slaughtered the entire Moonlight pack!
The woman was Sydney Sullivan, my cousin and a Beta of the Moonlight pack.
She poisoned my food, killing my bonded wolf spirit and turning me into the lowest-ranked Rogue, wandering outside the pack.
I had been wandering for seven years before they finally found me. Sydney had personally locked me in a dog cage and tortured me day and night!
The Omega mark on Xander's collarbone was inflamed and festering, with dark red scars twisted into the shape of a crawling maggot. As he crouched down, the magic-forbidding collar on his neck collided with the bars of the iron cage, producing a crisp sound.
The collar was supposed to restrict his use of magic, but now it seemed like a mere decoration. "Darling, do you know why we kept you alive until now?" He asked.
The flickering blue flames at his fingertips illuminated my decaying ankle, as silver poison coursed through my blood vessels, causing excruciating pain. He continued, "We'd like to see how the esteemed Alpha devours her lover's rotten body like a hyena."
A hoarse roar mixed with a wolf's howl erupted from my throat, and my canine teeth pierced through my lower lip uncontrollably.
The body of Jacob in my arms had already turned a strange jade-colored sheen, a sign of the reaction between wolfbane poison and silver salt.
His shattered silver moon emblem still stubbornly shimmered on his forehead. Even death was unable to erase an Alpha's divine imprint.
Seven days ago, he broke through the Blood Moon Enchantment. The image of the Seven Magic-Forbidding Pillars piercing through his limbs was still clear in my mind.
Those obsidian instruments of torture inscribed with cursed runes were now planted around us, forming an Imprisonment Circle.

Chapter 2 — The End?

Zia's POV:
"She hasn't eaten for seven days," Sydney said as she lifted my hair with a silver-handled dagger, the blood clots at the tips of my hair fell off, "How long do you think this bitch can hold on?"
The blade was suddenly pierced into Jacob's decaying chest, making a nauseatingly sticky sound as it stirred. I smelled the stench of decaying flesh mixed with Crofton weed, it was a special corpse preservative made by the Blackstone pack.
The stench in the basement mainly came from the excrement trench in the corner, but now there was also the sour smell of evaporating muscle tissue fluid.
My silver-white wolf fur had long been stained gray-brown by the dirt, and my deteriorating tail hung weakly between my legs.
When Sydney splashed the wolfbane poison juice from a glass bottle onto Jacob's face, the Moonlight Protection Rune inscribed on his bones suddenly lit up. It was the last defense mechanism of an Alpha's corpse.
"Look! She's still rubbing against that corpse!" Xander's sneer triggered a chain reaction, and the Omega subordinates they brought with them burst into hyena-like laughter.
These lowest-ranking werewolves wore bronze muzzles, and the imprints on their necks were even darker than Xander's, proof of prolonged exposure to black magic.
One of them took out a rusty dog food bowl, and the smell of cheap synthetic blood filled the air instantly.
My temples throbbed, and the Moonlight Imprint beneath my collarbone burned. It was the instinctive resistance of the Alpha bloodline to insults, even though my weakened body could no longer support the transformation.
As Sydney's heel crushed my coccyx, the moonlight in the basement suddenly became distorted. The full moon outside the window had a blood-red halo on its edge, a sign that the Blood Moon was approaching.
Jacob's remaining left hand suddenly twitched spastically, a phenomenon known as the "last glow" of the Silver Moon Pack's warrior.
The scene from seven days ago when he broke through the enchantment flooded back to my mind like a tide. His right leg was torn to the bone by the Blackstone wolf pack, his chest was pierced by the magic-forbidding pillars, blue blood oozing out from it.
But those gray-blue eyes were always watching me.
The fangs that broke the iron chain remained pierced in my palm, slowly moving through the subcutaneous tissue. An Alpha's remains always seeks for their destined mate.
"It's almost done." Sydney wiped the dagger, which was stained with decay. "The remnants of the Moonlight Pack should be all cleaned up."
Her words reminded me of the sight of my father being hanged on the sacred tree. His silver-white bonded wolf spirit's tail was nailed with cursed silver nails, and his Moonlight Imprint was sliced out as a war trophy.
My three older brothers still had their heads hanging on the gates of the Blackstone pack as a warning to the public.
My heartbeat gradually weakened like a dying ember, and I licked Jacob's broken silver moon emblem for the last time.
When Xander stabbed the poisoned silver blade at my throat, the Blood Moon outside the window had finally reached its peak. Its moonlight poured into the basement like liquid mercury, and in an instant, every silverware was vaporized into a deadly mist.
This was the "Moonfall" phenomenon triggered by the death of destined mates, and it was the opportunity I had been waiting for, for us to die together.
I weakly raised my eyelids and took one last look at the half-rotten face of Jacob Holt.
"I'm sorry, Dad, I'm sorry, Brother, and I'm sorry, Jacob… If only everything could start over…"
As my final thoughts faded away, everyone perished in the poisonous gas.

Chapter 3 — Second Chances

Zia's POV:
"Zia, do you know the wizard said that Jacob's eye may go blind? You don't like him, but you can't hurt him at this time!"
"Dad, Zia's still young, calm down. I'll go explain to the Silver Moon Pack…"
Cedar-scented pheromones spread in the air; it was an angry Alpha displaying authority.
Intense arguing could be heard.
I slowly opened my eyes, my mind momentarily blank.
Hadn't I died? Where was I?
"Zia, you're finally awake!"
A man's surprised voice sounded in my ears.
I shuddered at this voice…
I stiffly turned my head, and the handsome features of a man came into view.
My older brother, Maverick Sullivan.
Ten years ago, because of Xander and Sydney's betrayal, his head was cut off and hung on the city gate.
Was I dreaming…
I felt my blood flow throughout my body. My eyes were glued on Maverick, my lips trembling but unable to say a word, tears streaming down my face.
Seeing me crying uncontrollably, he looked a bit flustered. "What's wrong? Are you still feeling unwell? I'll get the doctor."
"Maverick …" I grabbed him urgently as he was about to leave.
The touch of his skin made me shudder again, and I was certain now, it was not a dream.
I had been reborn…
Reborn to a time when my father and older brothers were still alive.
I wondered where Jacob was.
"Maverick, where's Jacob? Where is he?"
As soon as the words "Jacob Holt" were spoken, I felt a wave of pain spreading throughout my body from my heart.
That god-like man was rendered disabled by me and was left with nothing. Yet he still found me and came to save me without hesitation.
I was too foolish to believe in Xander and Sydney, that pair of scum. Only the moment they fed me wolfbane poison had I realized how wrong I was.
"He's still at the Silver Moon Temple. Zia, you've gone too far this time. Jacob was infected with silver poison from the Rogue attack and has not recovered. How could you reject him at this time?"
I had rejected him…
Yes, I liked Xander at first, and I rejected Jacob as my destined mate. Because of the contract, both destined mates were to suffer deep pain if they were ever to reject each other.
At that time, Jacob had just suffered a Rogue attack, with one eye scratched by a silver weapon.
Silver weapons suppressed a werewolf's self-healing gene, and that eye of his had never been able to recover.
Coupled with the pain caused by my rejection, the injury became even more severe.
Since then, he had lost one eye completely, and an unhealable scar had been added to his once-perfect face.
"Maverick, I want to see him. Please take me to see him!"
I really wanted to see Jacob, to apologize to him, but Maverick stopped me.
"He's very unstable right now. Do you still want to go and provoke him? Take good care of yourself and stop messing around."
"But, Maverick, I…"
"If you continue to cause trouble, even I can't protect you." Maverick's face turned cold, his voice stern.
He refused to take me to the hospital, so I decided to go on my own.
I didn't even have time to change my clothes. I put on a coat and sneaked away to the Silver Moon Pack while the servants weren't paying attention.
The rain was still pouring, making me feel restless.
Braving the heavy rain, I cautiously called out, "Kelly?"
"What's wrong? Zia, you seem to be in a bad mood," a magnetic voice echoed in my mind.
It was Kelly, my bonded wolf spirit.
Hearing the long-lost voice, I couldn't contain my excitement any longer, and tears welled up in my eyes.
"What's wrong, Zia? Did I make you angry?" Kelly sounded a bit anxious.
Earlier, Kelly was upset with me for rejecting my destined mate, so she closed herself off and didn't know what had happened to me.
Although she was my bonded wolf spirit and could communicate with me telepathically, she couldn't understand my current emotions.
Joy, sorrow, regret, pain…
I was overwhelmed with various emotions; they flooded my heart and left Kelly puzzled.
I shook my head, wiped my nose, and said, "No, I'm just happy, very happy to see you again!"
Kelly was even more puzzled. "We quarrelled yesterday because of Jacob's matter. Why do you sound like we haven't seen each other for a long time?"
I shook my head and didn't say anything.
Only I knew that in my previous life, I was fed wolfbane poison, which led to her death. For me, it had been ten years since I last heard the voice of the lifelong companion.
That was why I was excited.
But I didn't explain much, because now I was reborn. Nothing had happened yet, everything could still be changed!
"Kelly," I asked her, "Can destined mates be together again after being rejected?"
"Are you thinking…" Kelly's tone instantly became cheerful; she had understood my intentions and had already guessed what I had wanted to say.
"Yes!" I nodded and continued, "I want to restore the bond of destined mates with Jacob!"
