Chapter 1 — There's a Top Alpha Nearby
Amanda's POV:
My name's Amanda Lamb. I'm the Alpha of the Glacier Pack—and yeah, it's super rare for a woman to be Alpha.
Today was my 18th birthday, yet instead of standing proud at my Alpha ceremony, I hid my aura, posed as an Omega, and traveled alone to the Eclipse Pack.
Why? Because my wolf, Alice, had been getting weaker. Sometimes, I'd even lose my sense of smell without warning. If this kept up, I'd never make it as Alpha.
I dug through old books and found the fastest way to fix it: find a mate to reawaken my emotions.
Seriously?! That was the meanest joke the Moon Goddess could ever pull on me!
For 18 years, I killed off every feeling, just to be the perfect Alpha. I put everything into my strength and training.
And now, right when I was about to take over, I learned that emotions, the very thing I tossed aside, are part of what makes an Alpha.
And the fastest way was ... finding a mate?
But where was I supposed to find someone I actually respected, who also deserved me?
So I asked Grandpa. He just smiled, looking all mysterious, and said he had already picked someone.
What?!
Turned out Grandpa set up a marriage for me when I was still a kid. I never even knew.
And that was how I ended up here, at the Eclipse Pack train station.
Waiting for my fiancés ...
And yeah, not one fiancé. Five.
At least Grandpa gave me the choice to pick one of the five heirs. Guess that was what he called "freedom."
While I was still freaking out about how ridiculous this was, Alice's voice popped up in my head.
"Amanda, look! Those four hotties over there—they've gotta be the guys from the files," Alice said, super hyped. "But why are you pretending to be an Omega and making yourself so ugly? You look awful!"
"You little perv," I told her, then explained, "Because I don't want them chasing me for my Alpha title. And I don't want them agreeing to be my mate just because of my looks."
After that, I turned to where Alice was squealing, and yep—there they were. Four crazy good-looking guys, each with a different vibe.
One was cute, one was gentle, one looked brooding, and one looked cold. People passing by—men, women, kids, even old folks—couldn't help but stare at them.
Wait ... only four? Wasn't it supposed to be five?
Guess I wasn't that important to them.
I watched them talking, then used my Alpha-level hearing to catch what they were saying.
"It's boiling out here, and Grandpa made us pick up this Omega. Like we've got nothing better to do," the youngest, Josh Ortega, complained.
"Yeah. Coming by train? Must be some country bumpkin," said Alan Ortega, the fourth son, the ambassador of the pack, hiding behind a mask and cap.
"Our five brothers being forced to let some Omega from the sticks pick a husband? When Grandpa told me yesterday, I thought he was joking," said Patrick Ortega, the third son.
"Lucky Samson. He gets to skip this for pack business," Josh added, still grumbling.
Derrick Ortega, the second son, stayed quiet, but his face was dark enough to say everything.
Wow. I hadn't even judged them yet, and they were already looking down on me!
I couldn't stop myself—I shouted, loud and clear, "Are you the heirs of Eclipse Pack? I'm Amanda Lamb!"
All four of them turned at once.
When they saw my plain, ugly disguise, the disgust on their faces was way too obvious.
Alan's voice dripped disbelief. "You're Amanda?"
I pinched my thigh and forced out this cutesy, annoying tone. "Grandpa wasn't lying. You guys really are handsome!"
I couldn't help wondering, if I looked like this, would any of them still want me?
Because if someone could look past status and looks and actually love the real me, then that was the one who deserved to be my mate.
"Ms. Lamb, maybe you should go back," Josh said flatly, rolling his eyes at my fake sugary voice.
Josh—the most impatient of the brothers—was definitely the least Alpha material.
I widened my eyes and played dumb. "Huh? Why?"
That was when Derrick finally spoke, his voice low and steady.
"Get in the car."
Once inside, I kept acting like some clueless small-town girl, pointing out the window at everything. "Wow, that building's so tall! Taller than our watchtower!
"This shiny table must be worth hundreds of crystals!"
Alice was cracking up inside me. "Amanda, with you acting this over-the-top, none of them will dare want you."
The four guys ignored me, but their eye-rolls said enough. They were done with me already.
Perfect. Exactly what I wanted.
So, with me chattering nonstop, the car pulled up to the Eclipse Pack's castle.
I made my surprise look huge, mouth open wide. "Oh, my God! Your place is like a castle!"
In truth, it wasn't even one-tenth the size of my family's home.
Josh finally snapped. "Shut up! Keep it up, and I'll dump you back at the train station right now!"
The second he said that, Alice suddenly surged inside me, as if she had sensed danger.
At the same time, my nose picked up an extremely faint but oppressive aura; it didn’t belong to these four in front of me, and it felt stronger than a normal Alpha’s.
"Amanda, something's wrong!" Alice warned, tense. "There's a top Alpha nearby ... and he's watching us."
I jerked my head up, feeling cold eyes lock right onto me from somewhere inside the castle.
I scanned the place, sharp and ready. Who was it?
Chapter 2 — Grip Like Steel
Amanda's POV:
"Hillbilly, stop acting like you've never seen nice things before!"
I kept on playing the innocent act, looking harmless at the four of them. I just wanted this whole thing to end fast. Sure enough, they told the servants to hurry up and take me to my room.
The moment the door opened and I saw the room stacked with fancy stuff, I leaned right into my "country Omega" role. "Wow! This room is bigger than our pigsty back home! And these clothes ... they're all mine?"
Just like that, the four of them gave up pretending. They all rolled their eyes at the same time and walked straight downstairs.
Leaning by the door, I listened as their voices floated up.
"She's not really into me, right? I'm not marrying her!"
"An Omega that ugly and tacky? Whoever gets her is cursed."
"Grandpa said marrying her would help our wolf spirit—yeah, right, what a joke."
I laughed to myself, cold and sharp. These clowns actually thought I'd choose one of them? They weren't even good enough to be proper heirs.
They were so full of themselves that it was disgusting.
Forget it. These idiots weren't worth my time. I unpacked my things, and soon it was dinner, so I went downstairs.
Before coming here, I'd already looked into the Eclipse Pack. Their current Alpha and Luna were almost never home, always busy. The old Alpha liked to travel around.
The five heirs usually lived apart, so the castle was empty most of the time. Seeing these four sitting at the table, sulking, was proof that their grandpa had dragged them back just for me.
I guess I stared too long, because the one in the crisp white shirt finally spoke, slow and lazy. "Ms. Lamb, there are clothes upstairs. Maybe change into something else?"
That was Patrick, the third son—he was a famous designer and was extremely picky about fashion.
I looked down at my red dress and pretended to pout. "But my grandma stitched this by hand ... "
"Country bumpkin!" Josh slammed his fork down with a loud crack. His voice was sharp and loud. "None of us is marrying you! And Samson definitely won't! He's already in love with someone else!"
I played along, biting my lip and forcing a couple of fake tears. "But how am I supposed to explain to Grandpa ... "
Even I knew I looked ridiculous doing that.
And sure enough, the second they saw me make that face, all four of them looked like they were going to puke. They dropped their silverware and rushed out like I was a ghost.
I sat down at the table, pleased with myself.
The food was barely touched, which was perfect. Those four idiots weren't worthy of eating with me anyway. I'd rather enjoy it alone.
Halfway through dinner, my phone buzzed. A text from one of my men. "Ms. Lamb, did you make it to Eclipse Pack? They didn't cause trouble, right?"
I smirked and typed back, "Those Eclipse Pack clowns think they can mess with me?"
A reply came quickly. "You're a beast! But really, be careful. They're not easy to handle—especially Samson."
Samson? I raised an eyebrow.
He was just another Alpha heir. What was there to be afraid of?
The kind of man who could scare me hadn't even been born yet.
After a long day of travel, I was exhausted. I shut off my phone and went straight to bed.
In the middle of the night, I woke up thirsty. Since nobody would be around at that hour, I didn't bother with the ugly makeup. I slipped downstairs, grabbed some water, and stumbled back half-asleep.
I did not realize anything was off until I dropped onto the bed. The mattress felt much softer than before.
Before I could figure it out, the door banged open, and someone yanked the covers off me!
My years of training kicked in. My elbow shot straight for the intruder's chest.
But he was faster. He caught my arm with one quick move, his grip like steel. Then a low, cold voice cut through the dark. "Who are you?"
Chapter 3 — Ten Seconds
Samson's POV:
When my brothers brought back our so-called fiancée, I stood outside the castle, watching from a distance.
Honestly, the woman was ugly. It turned out, skipping the earlier welcome ceremony and using "matters at headquarters" as an excuse, was the smartest choice I'd made all day.
I went straight to my office. By the time I finished all the pack work, it was already midnight. The second I opened the door, I knew something was off.
I walked quickly to the bed, and the moment I lifted the blanket, an arm shot at me like a weapon.
I grabbed it hard, forcing down my anger. "Who are you?"
"You're the one breaking into my room at night! Ever heard of manners?" Her angry voice snapped back.
At this hour, the only person it could be was the fiancée from this morning—Amanda.
I gave a short, cold laugh. "So you're Amanda? Take a good look. This is my room."
There was a pause. Then her voice sounded embarrassed. "Sorry. I went into the wrong room. Didn't mean to."
"Out." My tone stayed cold. I said nothing else.
Only when her shadow disappeared did I finally let out a breath and fall back onto the bed. Still ... she didn't move like some weak Omega.
That elbow strike just now? Sharp, precise, and strong—like a trained Alpha's move.
If I hadn't reacted so fast, she would've landed it.
The night passed without dreams.
At breakfast, Josh's mocking voice carried across the table. "Samson, that woman is hideous! And the servants said she slipped into your room last night. I hope she didn't scare you."
My hand holding the knife and fork froze for a second.
I hadn't thought the story would spread so fast.
Just then, footsteps came down the stairs.
It was Amanda. Without meaning to, I looked up.
One more look at that ugly face, and even the memory of her unusual skills lost its shine. My chest sank heavily.
I put down my utensils and stood. "I'm heading to the office."
Amanda's POV:
Josh's cold laugh stabbed like ice.
"No wonder you ignored the rest of us yesterday. Turns out you've set your sights on Samson instead, huh? Sneaky, Amanda, real sneaky."
My hand holding the milk paused as the corner of my mouth twitched.
Forget it. I couldn't be bothered to explain, so I kept drinking.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Samson's back as he left. For some reason, my chest felt weird.
That black suit framed his wide shoulders and tall, straight back. His Alpha energy rolled off him like a shield, making the whole room colder.
No doubt about it. Of the five brothers, he was the most qualified heir.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!" Josh slammed the table, furious. "Samson already has someone he loves, so quit dreaming!"
"Okay." I didn't even bother to look up.
"Then pick me instead," he leaned close, smug. "If I feel generous, I might even let you stay longer at Eclipse Pack."
I finally looked at him, scanning him up and down, then scoffed. "You? Your wolf spirit hasn't even stabilized. You're barely grown."
"What did you say?!" Josh exploded, face red. "You're just an Omega, and you dare look down on me? I'm gonna—"
"What?" I cut him off calmly, wiping my mouth. "You gonna bite me?"
Sure enough, his whole face went redder, like a baby wolf puffing its fur.
He couldn't even control his temper, and he wanted to compete for Alpha? What a joke.
After breakfast, Derrick stopped me and pulled me into his car. He didn't speak, just tapped his fingers on the wheel, his face in the sunlight looking strangely soft, almost delicate.
But I noticed—his glance in the rearview mirror carried a trace of suspicion.
This delicate-looking man—did he suspect something?
I acted innocent. "Josh and I were in the same training camp. Why not let the driver take us there together?"
Derrick's fingers froze, then he spoke flatly. "Grandpa wants us to take turns. Monday through Friday, we drive you. Weekends, we take turns keeping you company.
"Today should've been Samson, but he had a last-minute meeting. So it's me."
Relief ran through me. So he wasn't interested in me, and he hadn't guessed who I really was either.
Soon, the car stopped at the elite werewolf training academy.
I lifted my head, catching the gleam of the golden plaque on the building. My eyes narrowed. It had been a long time since I stepped foot in a place like this. It made me wanna pick a fight.
Inside the classroom, the chatter died instantly when I walked in. Whispers buzzed through the air like flies.
"So that's the Eclipse Pack's future Luna? She's so ugly ... "
"Looks cheap, like some country Omega."
"She's got no skills. Why's she even in the elite class?"
The buzzing continued, annoying like gnats.
I walked straight to the back row. Nobody dared sit beside me. Perfect. I liked the quiet.
When the bell rang for break, I slipped out for the bathroom—only to get blocked.
A girl with purple hair stood in front, hands on her hips, dripping arrogance. "Amanda? You're an Omega without a wolf spirit, and you dare show up at our elite camp?
"You have no wolf spirit, and you're ugly as hell. How dare you dream of becoming Luna! Do yourself a favor and get plastic surgery!"
My eyes landed on the glowing purple mark on her neck—the totem of the Phantom Pack's Gamma, Angeline Abbott. Backed by her family, she ruled the school like a queen.
"You hear her?" One of her girls shoved me. "Angeline told you to scram!"
I rolled my jaw and flexed my wrists. "I heard."
Then I smirked. "But I'm not leaving."
"I'll kill you!" Angeline swung her fist, wolf spirit energy flickering faintly.
I slipped aside, my elbow slamming into her ribs.
She bent over in pain, and before she could react, my foot kicked behind her knee. She crumpled instantly.
The girls behind her rushed me. I twisted one's wrist with my left hand, grabbed another's arm with my right, and flipped them into each other.
The last two froze in fear. I stepped up, tapped a finger on each of their shoulders, and both dropped to their knees.
Ten seconds, tops. All of them were on the ground, whining.
I dusted off my hands, gave a cold laugh, and turned to leave. Right there, I ran into Josh—his face twisted like he'd just seen a ghost.
