Chapter 1
Bella's POV
<< 9PM, RED MOON PACK >>
I entered my room, beaming with a bright smile, my eyes directly locking with the very classy ballroom gown hanging right in front of my dressing table. I admire its beauty as my fingers glided softly over it, touching how smooth it was.
Tomorrow is the big day, and finally, after so many challenges, Raymond—my long-time crush—will be crowned Alpha. I couldn't help but imagine him proposing to me, but if he does not, I resolved to confess to him instead.
Yet, a thought of rejection still lingers in my mind. Neither he nor I have met his destined mate so far, but every night, I see myself on my knees and pray to the Moon Goddess-to please let us be meant for each other.
I was lost deep in my thoughts as I heard that familiar voice from behind. It was Lucy, my best buddy, entering my room.
"Are you that excited about Raymond becoming the Alpha?" she asked, her tone teasing.
I frowned slightly.
I'm Bella, an orphan of the Red Moon Pack and one of the strongest wolves in the pack. Though I am lowly ranked, many command respect for me. In our pack, everyone knows me as that girl who's always by Raymond's side. My feelings toward him are barely discreet, yet he never seems to take notice.
He saved me from bullies when I was ten, my best buddy since childhood. Being an orphan made me such an easy target, but Raymond always had my back. Since then, my heart has belonged to him.
Deep inside, I know I love him, and I would do just about anything for him. He's the son of the Alpha, and in due time, he will undertake that position. His father remains bothered, though, Marcus—Raymond's stepbrother, who got kicked out of the pack weeks ago.
"He deserves to be Alpha," I snapped to Lucy, firmness lacing the sharp tone of my voice. "Everybody knows he has that aura of a leader and has earned his rightful place far more than anyone else."
She rolled her eyes and plopped onto my bed. "I just wish he'd look at you the way you look at him," she grumbled.
I couldn't stand listening to her, and I asked her to leave without delay. I would not let her or anything else put a damper on my mood until tomorrow. I would want to be in the best frame of mind when finally confessing to them.
I let out a deep sigh, sat on my bed, whispered, "Moon goddess," and fell to sleep.
---
NEXT MORNING
Slowly I opened my eyes, letting out a small yawn, stretching my body. The morning sun filtered in through my curtains, and I was up, ready to gear up. This was the day I had been waiting for.
Clothed and camouflaged with makeup, at the mirror, adjusting my gown nervously with a smile.
I smiled as I went out and saw the sleek black car waiting for me. Raymond had arranged for it to take me to the main hall.
I got inside, and he took off. Upon arrival, he parked and quickly opened the door for me. "Thanks," I murmured, stepping out elegantly and making my way inside the grand hall.
As soon as I had entered, my eyes had found Lucy standing next to Raymond, laughing with him. My heart clenched in irritation. Just yesterday, she was talking about him like he was the biggest jerk, and here she was acting all flirty around him.
I strolled over, and the moment Lucy noticed me, she frowned before quickly covering it with a fake smile.
"Guess what Raymond just told me?" she asked, linking her arm with mine in a too-familiar way.
I gently pulled away and forced a smile. "You know I’m terrible at guessing."
Before she could respond, Raymond grabbed my arm and led me away from her.
"Why do you even listen to her? You know how she flirts with everyone," he said, his tone laced with annoyance.
I could sense something in his voice—was he worried? But why?
"Are you hiding something from me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
That soft smile of Raymond melted my heart in a moment. The calm, composed face, the ease with which he carried himself-this undeniable pull towards him was just too hard to resist.
As he closed in, my breath caught in my throat. The proximity sent a wave of nervousness through me, and I thought for a second that he might kiss me. I shut my eyes, anticipation welling up inside me. But instead of the touch I so desired, I heard his soft chuckle.
I opened my eyes, finding him staring at me, his gaze intense and unreadable. For a fleeting moment, it felt like he saw me differently—like maybe, just maybe, he loved me too.
I was overcome with embarrassment, quickly covering my face and turning on my heels to rush back to the party. My heart was racing as I found my seat and tried to steady my breathing.
Silence engulfed the place, for the Alpha mounted the stage because of his mighty aura, which demanded respect automatically. He is the most respected leader among all the packs, and today he was going to come down the throne and give the mantle of chiefship to his son.
Everybody was in high spirits, waiting for the announcement. With Marcus out of the way, there was no way Raymond wasn't going to be announced as the new Alpha.
The Alpha spoke with great pride and hope as he got to telling about the future of the pack. Then, with a solemn look full of pride, he announced Raymond as his successor.
Cheers erupted in the hall, a wave of happiness spreading through the crowd. It was no surprise, really, for Raymond was as well loved as his father. He was the strongest wolf and the rightful prince of the Red Moon Pack.
I couldn't help but smile as I watched Raymond mount the stage to address the pack. He never saw anyone beneath him-there were no divisions in his eyes, only unity and strength.
Despite his cold demeanor and standoffish attitude, the pack loved him, and that was what truly made an Alpha.
When the ceremony ended and people scattered to celebrate, Raymond came up to me.
"You think I'll be a good Alpha?" he asked now, an insecurity that caught me off guard, lacing his tone.
I stared in utter incredulity at him. Of course, you will, I responded with complete firmness. You were chosen for a reason, Raymond.
Being around him, in moments like this, always made me feel special, the second most important person in his life.
We wanted to get out of the racket, so we moved towards a bar, which was just a little way off from all that chaos. He brushed hands while walking alongside, sending electric strokes down my back.
We ordered tequilas at the bar; he sat cross over the table amidst comfortable silence.
"I still haven't found my fated mate," he growled, swirling the drink in his hand. "And very soon, the pack will begin to pressure me to find a Luna. and an heir."
Those words depressed me. That was true-without a Luna by his side, other packs could use that as a weakness against him.
"I know, Raymond," I said softly. "Not having a Luna isn't ideal, and it could be hard. but you are strong. You'll be fine."
Our eyes locked, and for a moment, I saw that same indescribable emotion from earlier. The air around us grew thick, and a crackling weight settled between us.
His fingers grazed my neck, and I shivered with the touch. His lips just brushed mine, millimeters between us, though the heat between us was still burning.
He suddenly closed the space between us, and his lips latched onto mine in a desperate kiss. I dissolved into him, my hands knotting in his hair as we drove deeper into the kiss. Our tongues danced perfectly, and every single part of me craved more.
He lifted me with ease, and my legs wrapped around his waist as he took me to a nearby room, slamming my back against the door. My chest was heaving with anticipation.
Clothes were shed hastily, landing wherever they fell. We were both tipsy, but this moment felt different-more intense, more raw.
We didn't even make it to the bed, desire overpowered us. He laid me on the floor, his lips devouring mine while his hands roamed my body. His fingers found their way to my breasts, which he kneaded softly to bring soft moans from me.
A shiver ran down my spine as he pressed against my clit, teasing me until I writhed under him. His smell all around, everything was only about him now—filling me, claiming me.
I gasped as he pushed my legs apart and slid his length inside me slowly. The pain mixed with pleasure had me biting my lips, holding on to him tightly.
He started slowly, but as my body got more used to it, his thrusts grew faster, more desperate. We moved in harmony, sweet whispers intermingling between our bodies that seemed to be talking with a single voice.
At last, hours in eternal bliss, we slumped onto the bed, exhausted into deep sleep.
Chapter 2
Bella's POV
NEXT MORNING The chirping of birds outside my window signaled the break of dawn. I opened my eyes as morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. A yawn escaped my lips as I stretched my arms, instinctively reaching for Raymond—but he wasn't there. Confused, I sat up and scanned the room.
The blur that was last night, everything, but one thing just leaped out-our most passion-fueled night shared, and then he had blurted out his emotions for me. A small, involuntary smile tugged my lips, my gaze drifting onto the crimson stain on the sheets-the proof of my innocence.
I took a deep breath and heaved myself from the bed, then steered to the bathroom to freshen up. The warm water ran its course down my skin, sweeping off remnants of sleep but not those thoughts about him.
After drying off, I saw that there was a short, blush-yellow gown laid neatly on the dresser. My heart fluttered-he must have left it for me. Slipping into it, I picked up my purse and stepped out of the room.
It was so silent in the mansion as I followed down the hall. I figured Raymond had to be addressing the pack today, formally taking his place as Alpha.
I stepped out into hushed-whispers-quiet. The maids would shoot me glances and exchange secretive little smiles and murmurs. I couldn't quite make out what exactly was being said, but something pricked the back of my mind.
"Did you know? Alpha is to pick a new Luna today during his speech," one of the passing maids whispered.
I froze mid-step; my heart pounded in my chest. A new Luna? My mind began to race. He must have noticed how much I loved him; it had to be me he was choosing.
The rest of the world did not matter that much, but Raymond… he was everything to me. Privately, I had always called him Ray-a name full of affection in my heart. And it would all be worth it today.
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and hastened my pace as excitement bubbled inside me. Soon, he would call my name, introducing me as his Luna to the whole Red Moon Pack.
I wouldn't lie; I was nervous. I had dreamed of this moment for years, and now that it finally was, it felt almost unreal.
As I entered the grand hall, I spotted him on stage, addressing the pack. I hung back at the door, observing him. Everything a woman would want was packed into that one powerful man-strong, commanding, and certainly handsome.
"Everyone is wondering who our Luna will be," Raymond's voice rang across the hall. A wave of excited murmurs swept across the crowd.
I swallowed hard, my thoughts drifting back to last night—whispered words, the way he held me, his promises. My lips tingled at the memory, and despite myself, I could feel the warmth pool inside me.
I quickly pushed the thoughts aside, knowing I shouldn't let them consume me here, in front of so many others who could sense it.
My eyes met his across the room, and I smiled at him. He smiled back, and my heart swelled in anticipation.
"You will all find out shortly," he went on, "but for now, please continue with the celebration. I have matters to attend to."
My smile faltered. Why wasn't he announcing it yet? As he came off the stage, he walked right toward me with purposeful strides.
"Why are you here?" he asked, his tone unreadable.
I blinked, confused. "Of course, I have to be here. Why are you asking me that?"
"You can't stand here," he interrupted, gesturing toward the front row seats. "Go sit over there."
I frowned, irritation brewing beneath my skin. What was wrong with him suddenly? He could have just called me up on stage.
Dropping my wariness, I did as he had bid, taking a seat in one of the front row chairs.
Raymond resumed speaking, his voice full of command. "Our new Luna is someone we all know well. A kind, loving, and brave soul-she is the most beautiful woman on this earth."
A tint of red crept up my cheeks. I straightened my gown, ready to go up the stage.
"It's none other than… Lucy Richardo."
Immediately I heard those words from him, my shoulders dropped, my face tightened. The smiles that once decorated my face vanished, leaving me with a frown.
The reflection of the stage light upon my face made me use the palm of my hand to block most of the rays entering my eyes.
Just then, someone from behind pushed me and made me fall on my knees as she walked inside.
She went onto the stage and smiled at all of us while Sebastian held her neck, placing passionate lips on hers. My jaw dropped open as my palm covered my mouth, the breath in my lungs seized as my eyes wide with shock-my brain was doing overtime trying to process what I had just seen.
My chest rose in panic and anger, my heart still burning in pain and anger, still in shock. I cleaned my eyes to get a better vision just to be sure I wasn't dreaming. It hit me-the reality that my friend Lucy had just been announced as the new Luna of the Red Moon pack by the man who had taken my virginity.
"She's my fated mate, most of you might be wondering why we kept it a secret and not announcing it sooner. We just found out a few weeks ago and we were also trying to get father's blessings."
"We also needed to make plans in order for the Alpha succession party to go smoothly and successfully." As he said that, I could feel my heart pounding rapidly in my chest.
No no no, I don't want to believe what I was hearing. A few weeks ago? Inconceivable-this level of lying to me, using me, dumping and betraying. How could he do this to me? How could he stand there smiling and hugging her? Did I really mean nothing to him? What about the many promises he made to me last night while he was inside of me moaning in pleasure.
By this time the tears that I fought so hard to keep at bay broke free and fell freely down my cheeks.
I turned to the spectators who chanted her name, cheering on with Lucy standing, shameless with the largest smiles and waving of hands at everyone Appalled was even the understatement towards depicting me in this instance.
"What do the two of you think you're doing at this very instance?" I shouted amidst all the crowd in a sour sober mood, cleaning off my tears now glaring madly at Lucy.
"Why her, Raymond? Why is she to be your mate? Why does she deserve to be your Luna? What about the promise you had made to me, to make me your mate and Luna? Why sudden change of heart all of a sudden, what did I ever do to you other than give you all of me?"
He let go of Lucy's hand and stared at me, he broke into a smile at first turning it into a laughter as his face turned cold all of a sudden.
This will be the first time he'll stare at me this way. His eyes that were once filled with love and compassion for me, I looked through them and all I could see was hatred, pure hatred and disdain.
*****
"That was just the numerous mistakes two opposite gender friends make when drunk so don't read the meaning into it. It was just a fling." Immediately he had said that, I staggered backwards, I felt the world beneath closing in on me, I prayed to the moon goddess for the ground to open and swallow me up. He had just embarrassed m e in front of the whole pack.
It was the heaviest my heart had ever felt inside my chest, and I couldn't believe this was how Raymond had ever thought of me: a fling, a drunk mistake. My hands instinctively balled into fists as, in that one moment, everything faded from my view and all that crossed my mind was wiping that wicked smile off Lucy's face.
My innocence? Does he remember where he took that away from me? Besides, doesn't he remember the first man in my life? Doesn't he feel ashamed when I dedicate my entire life just for his love and support, yet this is how he returns that? The more I was thinking about it, the more blood boiled in my head, and the more tears brimming in my eyes took a new path. Clenched into palms–felt like it just got ripped out. I couldn't take this anymore; I had to do something.
Still sniveling and breathing heavily, my body fueled up in anger as I pushed through the crowds, climbed up to the stage, turned him around to face me, raised my right hand high in the air, and landed it on his cheek.
Slam!
Chapter 3
Bella's POV
I didn't bother about murmurs and whispers of people in the crowd.
Tears rolled down my face while, with a shaking hand, I pointed at him. "I gave you my heart because I thought you were worthy of it," I choked out, my voice cracking under the weight of my emotion.
My chest heaved with every shaky breath. "I let you have me because I believed you deserved my innocence. I love you for years, Raymond-then-and think that you felt the same way. And now, you stand here and say I was just a fling? A mistake? All because I willingly gave myself to you?" My voice rose, filled with heartbreak and fury.
It hurt. It hurt so much. To love him so deeply, to be so humiliated like this.
I turned to Lucy, the so-called friend, my eyes burning with the feel of betrayal. "Was it that night? Two days ago, when you tried to tell me something and he stopped you? Is that when you both knew you were mates?"
Lucy snorted and a smug smile played on the corners of her mouth. "I thought you were too blinded by love to see the truth. I only wanted to warn you to back off from my man. But look at you-throws yourself at him like some desperate slut." She rolled her eyes and something inside just snapped.
Thwack!
The sound of the slap reverberated, and everybody just stared at me with their mouth agape. I too was shocked by my action, though bottled up inside me in anger. I just had to shut her up.
Raymond turned toward me, his face darkening with rage. In a flash, he shoved me. Hard.
I lost my balance and crashed to the floor. Pain shot through me as I looked up at him, expecting—hoping—he would help me up. But he didn't. He just stood there, staring at me with nothing but cold indifference.
"Who would want an orphan with no rank like you to be my Luna?" His words cut through me like a knife. "Do you really think you're worthy of standing beside me as the Luna of the Red Moon Pack? You actually thought I'd reject my fated mate for *you*? What could you even offer me?"
Appalled, I couldn't utter a word. An orphan with no rank?
Did he not remember that if my parents hadn't saved his family at the cost of their lives, his father wouldn't even have been alive today? My mother died over his mother, and my father. my father just didn't make it out after his rescue.
"You know why my parents died," I whispered, fighting to rise, with trembling hands mopping off my tears. I needed some answers.
Raymond looked at him coldly. "Yeah, I know, they died saving my parents after leading them into a trap that almost killed my father. My mother wasn't lucky enough, but your parents? They died doing their job.
He turned away from me, clearing his throat as he addressed the pack. "Our Luna will only be Lucy, because she is worthy enough to stand by my side." A wicked smile curved his lips. "And as for Bella, she's stripped of her position and banished from the Red Moon Pack."
Laughter and applause erupted from the crowd. My heart shattered into a million pieces.
I couldn't believe it. I was being banished.
Tears blinded my eyes as I turned and ran. I was humiliated and broken, and in my rush, I ran to my room, gathered a few things, and ran out.
As I reached the gates of the packhouse, Lucy stood before me, flanked by her maids.
"So, how does it feel to be abandoned?" she sneered, her arms smugly crossed.
I tried to push past her, but she shoved me back.
"Lucy, you've won," I said, my voice bitter. "You have him now. Just let me go. I'm already banished, I have no reason to stay."
Her frown deepened as she pushed me again, but I stood firm this time.
"Do you mean enjoy it while it lasts?" she snapped.
I stared at her, a knowing smile curling my lips. "I mean that this-your position, your so-called love-it's all temporary. Raymond doesn't love you. He never will."
With that, I pushed past her and walked away. But as I reached the main gate, I hesitated.
I turned to look at the pack one last time, my heart aching. A part of me hoped. hoped that Raymond would come. That he'd realize what he'd done and stop me. Apologize.
But he didn't. He never came.
I wiped away fresh tears and walked away without looking back. I couldn't. If I did, I might not leave.
-------
A Few Hours Later
I stopped at the roadside, far from the Red Moon Pack and closer to the human world. Fear gnawed at me. I couldn't go back to the pack. But I couldn't stay among rogues either-I'd never survive.
My body felt weak; exhaustion weighed me down. I hadn't rested or eaten in hours.
Everything was a blur as I stepped forward to cross the road. The last thing I remembered was the blaring horn and something hitting me before everything went black.
-------
At the Hospital – Three Weeks Later
Heavy and weak, my eyes fluttered open. My whole body was in pain, and I was so drained-like my wolf had been slipping away.
I turned my head and found a man in a white coat standing beside me. My heart raced, and instinctively, I tried to snarl at him. But then I took in my surroundings. White walls. Machines. Clean air.
The human world?
"Where am I?" I asked, my voice hoarse and laced with confusion.
He smiled, deep dimples forming on his face. He was handsome, with jet-black hair and striking blue eyes.
"Relax," he said softly. "I hit you with my car a few weeks ago. You weren't hurt, but you were in a coma. Honestly, I still don't understand how. There was nothing physically wrong with you."
I frowned. Of course, a mere car couldn't hurt me. My kind was far stronger.
"It's weird, actually," he went on. "My car took all the damage, but you. you were perfectly fine."
I sighed, my head spinning. I needed to regain my strength before anyone found out what I really was.
"How long was I out?" I asked warily.
He placed a report on my lap. “Three weeks.”
I exhaled sharply, my mind racing, but then he said something that made my entire world freeze.
“There’s one more thing. you’re pregnant.”
My heart stopped.
“What?!”
My eyes widened in shock.
