Chapter 1 — The Beast in the Dark
Sylvie Foster’s POV:
It was so hot. My whole body felt like it was on fire, my skin slick and sticky with sweat.
I curled up at the head of the bed, nails digging into my palms, but even that couldn’t suppress the heat roiling inside me.
I struggled to open my eyes, but all I could see was faint moonlight—nothing else.
I tried to remember how I ended up here, but the feverish heat in my body made it impossible to stay calm.
All I knew was one thing—I needed a man. Yes, I needed a man to have sex with me.
The thought startled me. Why was I thinking like this?
I’d never even slept with a man before.
No—wait!
Suddenly, it came back to me. Today was supposed to be my engagement party with Holden Steele.
But out of nowhere, he said he wanted to call off the engagement.
In that moment, it felt like the sky had collapsed on me.
While everyone around us stared and whispered, laughing at my humiliation, my cousin—Raelynn White—dragged me away.
Raelynn drove me to Eclipse Bar. I was so heartbroken I couldn’t even speak, just kept downing bottle after bottle of liquor.
She said she’d find me a gigolo to keep me company.
The alcohol dulled my senses, and I vaguely remember nodding my head.
The moment I did, Raelynn brought me to this room.
Wait! A jolt of clarity struck me.
A gigolo? Was she really trying to set me up for a one-night stand?
I was the heiress of the Foster family—the wealthiest family in the country. If news got out that I slept with a gigolo, I’d disgrace our entire name!
That b*tch. No wonder she was being so “kind” tonight. This was all a setup!
I had to get out of here before the gigolo arrived.
I pushed myself up with my elbows, trying to sit up—but failed. I collapsed back onto the bed.
The fire inside me grew stronger, and I realized something even worse—Raelynn had drugged me!
That witch. She didn’t just get me drunk—she drugged me, too. She really wanted to ruin me.
Under the drug’s influence, my mind couldn’t think of anything else. Just one thing kept echoing in my head—I want a man. I want a man to take me. Hard.
At that moment, the door creaked open. A tall figure stepped inside.
Was this the gigolo Raelynn had sent?
I tried to scream at him to stay away, but all that came out were moans thick with lust.
“Human?” I heard him mutter under his breath, like he was speaking to himself.
He walked toward me. The lights were off, so I couldn’t see his face. But I could smell the faint scent of wood on him, mingled with a masculine musk. It drove me insane.
Guided by instinct, I reached out and wrapped my arms around his neck, desperately pressing myself against him for comfort.
“Don’t move.” His voice was a low growl, restrained, like a beast fighting to break free from its chains.
His large hand brushed across my skin, sending an electric current down my spine.
“Don’t…” I whispered, my voice weak, as if I were begging—but I didn’t even know what I was resisting.
He must’ve heard me, but he didn’t stop.
His fingers undid my clothes. The next thing I knew, we were naked on the bed.
He kissed me with burning intensity, touching every sensitive inch of my body.
My body trembled under his touch, my fingers buried deep in his hair.
Suddenly, the bedside lamp shattered. I instinctively opened my eyes—and I could’ve sworn I saw something swaying behind him. A tail. A furry tail.
A tail? Since when did gigolos do cosplay?
But I didn’t have time to think. Under his skilled hands, I lost all strength—and all reason.
Panting, he suddenly flipped me over, the heat of something thick and hard pressing between my legs.
The sudden pressure snapped me out of my haze. I reached down—and my hand touched a burning, massive rod.
It was way too big—far beyond what any human could have!
I couldn’t take that…
“No…”
I moaned, trying to resist—but he was already pressing against me.
The moment he entered, a sharp, ripping pain tore through me, and I screamed.
“Ah! It hurts!”
The second he heard me, he stopped moving.
He lay beside me, slowing down, wrapping his arms around me.
His large hands gently cupped my breasts, kneading them carefully, like he was handling something precious. Every movement seemed calculated to match my reaction.
His burning lips and tongue nibbled on my earlobe, sending shivers through me. I felt a fresh rush of wetness between my legs.
Under his masterful teasing, I couldn’t help but moan, my body slowly beginning to accept his inhuman size.
When he finally pushed all the way inside, we both let out a low, satisfied groan.
At first, he moved slowly. But the moment I began to squirm and begged, “Faster, more,” he unleashed himself.
The sounds coming from his throat no longer resembled anything human. They became howls and low growls, like those of a wolf.
My body rose and fell with his rhythm, each thrust lighting another spark inside me.
I moaned aloud, my voice strange, like it belonged to someone else.
I had never felt anything like this before—like I’d been completely torn apart, then pieced back together.
I rode the waves of his motion, reaching peak after peak…
I don’t know how many times I came. Eventually, I collapsed onto the bed, too exhausted to even lift a finger.
The weight beside me vanished. I blinked groggily and saw the man’s tall, lean silhouette standing by the window.
A gust of wind blew the curtains aside. Moonlight poured in, illuminating the tattoo on his lower back.
A wolf’s head—vicious and lifelike, its jaws wide open like it was ready to devour.
It looked exactly like the werewolf totems I’d once seen on my father’s computer.
Legend said that, hidden in another realm parallel to human society, there lived a race of werewolves.
They were bloodthirsty and powerful, constantly encroaching on human lands and killing indiscriminately. It wasn’t until humans discovered wolfbane—poisonous to werewolves—and coated the tips of silver arrows with its venom that they stood a chance.
To claim more living space, humans initiated war. But the cunning of the werewolves and their physical superiority left both sides locked in a brutal stalemate.
Years of war devastated both sides, so eventually, they negotiated a truce. For decades, the peace held—humans stayed out of the werewolves’ territory, and werewolves kept away from human society.
But this man… that tattoo on his back—it looked exactly like the werewolf totem.
I tried to sit up for a closer look, but he suddenly turned.
Our eyes met—his were a deep, haunting shade of green.
“You should sleep now.”
His low, hypnotic whisper washed over me, and my eyelids grew impossibly heavy.
Then everything went black.
Chapter 2 — Blood and Moonlight
Zephyr Yale’s POV:
I am the Alpha of the Nightshade Pack—Alpha King of the Howlands. My duty is to protect my people.
Years ago, humans and werewolves signed a peace treaty, vowing to stay out of each other’s way.
But greedy humans were never content with the land they had. They started encroaching on our territory.
They even spread propaganda about wiping us out.
Just days ago, they captured a lost wolf pup who had wandered into human lands by accident. A harmless, defenseless child—yet they skinned him alive, pulled out every tooth.
To send a message, they smashed his bones to pieces and dumped what was left at the border like garbage.
I couldn’t bear to see my people treated this way.
We compromised in the past to keep our pack safe—but all we got in return was humiliation.
If that’s the case, then we have no choice. We must strike back.
To uncover human weaknesses and destroy them from within, I led a team into human society under false identities.
As the strongest Alpha King, I also bore another responsibility: to breed. To pass down a stronger, more powerful bloodline for the pack.
I was of age. I should have found my mate by now. But I hadn’t. I started to wonder if the Moon Goddess had forgotten to assign me one at all.
But today, while attending a gathering with one of our human business partners, I felt it—a sharp tremor in my chest like a needle prick. The unmistakable pull of my mate.
My wolf, Watson, howled in my mind, ecstatic. Mate! I can smell her—she’s on the 37th floor!
The moment I heard it, I lost all control. Watson surged forward, guiding me through the scent trail.
This is it!
I followed him and pushed the door open.
Peach. A sweet, ripe scent hit me the second I stepped in, and I inhaled it hard, instinctively.
The room was dark, but with my werewolf night vision, I could clearly see the woman curled up in the silk sheets.
Small. Fragile. Nothing like the fierce, dominant blood of our kind.
Watson, you sure about this? She’s… she’s human. I couldn’t believe it. My destined mate—a human girl?
How could a human ever be Luna of the Nightshade Pack? These were the same creatures destroying our lands!
You really didn’t mess this up? I asked again, shaken.
To be honest, I don’t know anymore, Watson admitted. I can’t accept it either. But it is what it is.
This can’t be happening… I took a step back, bumping into a table without even noticing.
But the room was thick with her scent. That sweet, maddening aroma. I could feel my wolf tail twitching beneath my slacks—an instinctive reaction when a werewolf craves to mate.
Then—she clung to me. Her sudden embrace made every muscle in my body tense.
“So warm… so nice,” she whispered, pressing her face against my chest. The heat of her skin seared into mine, like it might burn me alive.
Her lips brushed my throat. Watson whimpered like a pup.
My suit tore as my wolf tail lashed out, knocking over the lamp—a humiliating display of my instincts, desperate in front of a mate.
I knew I shouldn’t sleep with a human. Humans and werewolves were sworn enemies. But her scent—it was impossible to resist.
Logic told me to stop. But her soft moans pushed me over the edge.
I wanted to bury my inhuman length deep inside her, to release every frustration I’d held back for years.
But when I heard her cry out in pain, my heart clenched tight.
I had underestimated what it meant to have a mate.
So I softened. I handled her like a fragile treasure, gently touching and caressing every inch of her skin. I could feel her melt beneath my fingers.
To mark her, to claim her, I couldn’t resist leaving a faint bite on the inside of her thigh.
By dawn, I stood in front of the window, my wrinkled dress shirt barely clinging to me, replaying the madness of the night.
The twelfth rule of the pack echoed in my mind:
“The Luna must be of pure werewolf blood.” And yet—she was human.
Watson pressed gently against my consciousness, surprisingly quiet. She smells like clean air after a storm… and moonlight, if that makes sense.
Werewolves and humans were never meant to be allies. As Alpha of the Nightshade Pack, I couldn’t accept a human as my mate.
So I put her under hypnosis, sending her into a deep sleep.
I didn’t dare leave a mark. I left without a word.
As the elevator descended, a sharp pain flared at the gland on the back of my neck—
the sign of separation from a mate.
Chapter 3 — Shattered Silk and Bloodlines
Sylvie’s POV:
It hurts—like I just woke from a terrible dream.
My entire body ached like I’d been torn apart, and there it was—a distinct bite mark on the inside of my thigh.
I couldn’t help but recall the final moment before I passed out last night.
That gigolo… the tattoo on his back. It looked just like a werewolf’s crest.
But that couldn’t be. The werewolves and humans had long since separated their worlds. They wouldn’t dare step foot in human territory anymore.
Besides, he was just a gigolo Raelynn hired. Maybe he had the tattoo to look more wild, more exotic.
Still, the thought that I gave away my virginity to a stranger like that—it made my stomach turn.
I regretted letting a moment of emotional recklessness drive me to betray Holden.
Even if Holden humiliated me at the engagement party, I shouldn’t have tried to get back at him like this.
I looked around the ruined hotel room, the lingering scent of shame and lust hanging heavy in the air. I needed to get out of there.
Grabbing a silk shirt off the floor and wrapping it around myself, I just wanted to go home.
Father always said that no matter what happened, home would always be my safe haven.
But the moment I opened the hotel room door, blinding flashes nearly scorched my retinas.
A mob of reporters surged toward me, microphones shoved inches from my face.
“Ms. Foster! Is it true the Steele family called off your engagement, and you spent the night at Eclipse Bar with a gigolo?”
“Ms. Foster, sources say that gigolo is actually trans—did you know?”
“Ms. Foster, are you aware your father has gone bankrupt?”
“Ms. Foster, breaking news—your father jumped from the top of the Foster Group building!”
My heart stopped. Blood turned to ice in my veins. I grabbed one of the reporters by the collar, screaming, “What did you say? Say it again!”
She recoiled, holding up her phone. On the screen—my father, lying in a pool of blood. He had left me in the one way I never thought he would.
I couldn’t believe it. The man who cherished me more than anything was just… gone.
Mom died years ago. He was all I had left.
He raised me alone, and always told me he made money so I could grow up fearless and free.
Everything inside me shattered. I pushed through the crowd like a madwoman, screaming for answers.
No one responded.
My heels flew off in the chaos. I stumbled barefoot through the hallway, glass slicing into my soles—I didn’t even feel it.
I didn’t want to believe this was real.
But it was. I saw him in the morgue with my own eyes.
Then the creditors came.
And I finally accepted it: the Foster family was bankrupt, and my father—my only pillar—was gone.
I was no longer a noble heiress. Just a penniless, disgraced woman buried in debt.
Even after selling the villa and every luxury I owned, the debt was still enormous.
Now I sat outside a shabby apartment, watching helplessly as the new place got swarmed again.
“Miss…” Julia Miller, our longtime housekeeper, gently stroked my hair. “Back when you and your father rescued me from that drunkard, I swore I’d take care of your family for life.”
She handed me a bank card. “This is all the savings I’ve earned working for the Fosters. It’s not much, but it should cover our basic needs for a while.”
To escape the debt collectors, Julia and I fled to a remote countryside.
We took jobs as waitresses in the nearest small town to make ends meet.
One day while washing dishes, I suddenly blacked out.
When I came to, Julia threw her arms around me, eyes shining. “Miss, you’re pregnant!”
I froze.
I didn’t know whether it was good news or a disaster.
Because the babies inside me—they were from that night. That night with the gigolo.
My first thought was to get an abortion.
I couldn’t let my child’s father be a gigolo.
“Miss, the doctor said your uterine wall is too thin. An abortion could cost your life!” Julia pleaded.
What?
How could my luck be this cruel?
Maybe it was the hormones, but I suddenly felt a strange attachment.
I looked into Julia’s tearful eyes, then placed a hand on my belly.
They were the only family I had left in this world.
As long as I never told anyone, no one would ever know who their father really was.
Yes. I would give birth to them.
Days turned into weeks. My belly grew with every passing day.
But oddly enough, even though I was carrying triplets, my body didn’t weaken.
In fact, I felt stronger than I did before I got pregnant.
My wounds healed at an astonishing rate. My sense of smell grew sharper than ever.
Then, one stormy night, nine months later, I lay writhing on a stiff cot at the rural clinic.
The pain… it felt like every bone in my body was being crushed.
“Push! Push! I see the head!”
The midwife shouted encouragement.
I gave it everything I had. A loud wail filled the room—the cry of new life.
“You’re doing great! The second one’s almost here…”
