Chapter 1

Ariel's POV
The grand hall of the Jade Moon Pack buzzed with laughter and clinking glasses. The lights from the chandeliers casted a glow over the crowd, their expensive looking gold and diamond jewelries glinted off.
It was finally today, the Alpha coronation party for Bryan, a celebration of power and prestige that drew alphas and their entourages from every pack in the region.
Alpha Bryan, alpha of the Jade moon pack, the son of my late father’s enemy, was finally getting crowned alpha today after the demise of his father months ago. And everyone who attended had happy faces except for me.
I moved through the chaos, the tray of drinks I carried trembling slightly in my hands. Seeing Brayan’s happy face, his sister, Raveena and his mother Luna pearl only made my heart boil in fury the more, from the weight of the past three years, years spent as a slave in this very pack, my every breath a reminder of the life stolen from me.
At fifteen, my world had crumbled. The Emerald Moon Pack, my home, was reduced to ash and blood under the Jade Moon’s attack. My father’s desperate cries still echoed in my ears as he urged my twin sister Ava and me to flee while he was being murdered with his wife, my mother. We ran, but not far enough. They caught me, dragged me back to their stronghold, and chained me to a life of servitude. Ava… I hadn’t seen her since. The memory of her tear-streaked face, haunted me as I navigated the crowded hall, dodging the careless elbows of guests drunk on wine.
“Move, slave!” a woman’s voice snapped, her silk luxurious gown brushing against me as she shoved past. The tray wobbled, and I steadied it, my burned hand throbbing from an earlier mishap in the kitchen. Hot water had scalded my skin while I prepared coffee for Princess Raveena, Alpha Bryan’s venomous sister. Even though it hurts, the pain was nothing compared to the constant sting of her words or the cruelty of her mother, Luna Pearl. They’d made it their mission to break me here. But tonight, everything will change. Midnight was minutes away, and with it, my eighteenth birthday, the moment I’d be free, according to pack law. A slave captured before eighteen could be released on their birthday. I clung to that promise like a lifeline.
Alpha Bryan stood at the center, his broad shoulders draped in a tailored black suit, his hair catching the light as he laughed with a group of alphas. His presence was magnetic, commanding, he looked hot and mesmerizing to those female werewolves who he caught their attention but to me, he was a walking wound, the reason I became an orphan, a slave and the heir to a legacy of violence. I hated him. So much! A shiver ran through me, unbidden, and I shook it off, focusing on the drink I’ve been asked to serve..
“Hey!” a sharp voice cut through the noise. I turned to see Raveena as she sauntered toward me, her red dress clinging to her perfectly. Her friends trailed behind her, their painted lips curled in matching smirks the moment they saw me. “You’re moving too slow. Are you trying to ruin my brother’s coronation?” Raveena snapped the moment she got to me.
I lowered my eyes, the proper response drilled into me through years of punishment. “No, Princess. My apologies.”
She stepped closer, her perfume overwhelming, and grabbed my wrist. Her nails dug into my already tender skin, drawing blood out as the tray fell and the glass cups shattering to the ground. I stifled a wince, my body rigid. “You’re pathetic,” she hissed, her voice low enough that only I could hear. “A filthy remnant of a dead pack.”
Her words were like a knife, twisting in the wound of my past. I wanted to scream, to claw at her perfect face, but I held still, my jaw clenched so tight it ached. Freedom was so close. I just had to endure.
“Raveena, enough,” a deep voice interrupted. Bryan approached, his expression unreadable. Raveena released me, her smile saccharine as she turned to her brother. “Just teaching the slave her place, Bryan.”
His eyes moved to me, cold and assessing, before returning to his sister. “Not tonight. We have guests.” His tone was dismissive, and it spared me from her torture. Raveena huffed and flounced away, her friends giggling in her wake. I exhaled shakily, my wrist throbbing and blood trickling down around my wrist where her finger had dug in.
I retreated to the kitchen and just immediately, my stomach growled relentlessly. A cruel reminder of the hunger gnawing at my stomach. I hadn’t eaten all day, another of Raveena’s punishments for her own sins. She hadn’t woken up early as intended even after she had placed an alarm and now, she’s punishing me for that. How was that my fault? She claimed I was supposed to wake her up since the alarm couldn’t wake her up.
As I set down the tray, a wave of dizziness hit me, and I gripped the counter, my vision rolling in a blur. I squeezed my eyes shut, forcing myself to stay calm.
I glanced at the clock and it was 11:59PM. One minute to go.
Just then, the bell tolled, its deep chime vibrating through the castle. I looked again and saw it was finally midnight. My heart leaped. I was eighteen. Finally I was free. Tears filled up my eyes as I tried not to let it spill.
By the time I was done cleaning the dishes, I made my way to the party. Suddenly, I felt the mate pull. Yes! Every werewolf that turned 18 will always be blessed with a mate by the moon goddess. And now that I felt the pull, I knew my mate was near. The pull came again as I slipped out of the kitchen, my steps quick as it led me to the hallway. I didn’t notice anyone coming and didn’t see until I collided with his chest.
“I’m so sorry.” I apologized as I looked up. That was alpha Bryan. My breath catching. Alpha Bryan stared down at me, his eyes wide with the irritation that mirrored my shock.
‘Mate! Mate!’ My wolf sneered. What? Mate? Bryan is my mate?
As if Bryan felt it too, he immediately shoved me away from him.
The world tilted. My chest tightened, a searing pain blooming where my heart should have been. The mate bond, a cruel gift from the goddess, tied me to him? The son of my pack’s destroyer. “Alpha Bryan,” I called lowly, my voice. “You’re my mate?”
He recovered quickly, his face hardening into that familiar mask of disdain. “A slave as my mate?” he spat. “I reject you.”
The bond snapped, a hot agony tearing through my heart. My knees buckled, and I gasped, clutching my chest as if I could hold myself together. The pain was unlike anything I’d endured, worse than Raveena’s nails, worse than Luna Pearl’s hits. It was as if my soul had been ripped in two, leaving a jagged, bleeding wound. I didn’t know rejection pain felt this way.
“I, Bryan, alpha of the Jade moon pack reject you, Ariel! I can never have a slave as a mate! The moon goddess must be an ass hole!” With that, he walked out, not caring.
The pain increased with every breath that I took, I could barely walk straight and the whimpering in my head made things worse as it won't stop. I grabbed my head and tried to shake off the feeling.
‘Winter, please stop.’ I begged my wolf.
I didn't know how the name came to be but I felt an instant connection that assured me that it's her name but we both mourned the pain of our rejection as it ate us wholly.
I forced myself to stand, my vision blurred with tears. “I won’t be bound to a murderer’s son
“I, Ariel, daughter of the Emerald moon pack, accept your rejection.” The moment I said those words, the rejection pain freed me.
He didn’t even halt or give me a glance.
Consumed by the misery, I turned in fury and just as I took a few steps, I bumped into someone else who was coming from the other corner end of the corridor and momentarily.
“I'm sorry.” I apologized quickly and made to leave, didn’t bother to look up to know who he was.
“Is everything okay?” The silkiest, most soothing voice I ever heard sounded.
I paused, forgetting all of my pain. I turned around to look at the owner of the voice and I was stunned by how hot he looked in his black suit. Tall, broad shoulders, pink lips, short attractive hair. In fact, words weren’t enough to describe how handsome he looked. He was a perfect description of a magazine celebrity.

Chapter 2

Ariel’s POV
“Are you alright? You look hurt?” His question snapped me out.
I regained my senses and moved away from him as he attempted to help. I mustn't forget my goals, to leave this pack.
From his expensive and lavish dressing I could tell that he was a guest and for all I know, he could be one of the people who helped invade my pack.
“I'm fine, thanks for your concern but you should get back to the party.” I rudely dismissed and turned on my heels before he could retort.
Tears of joy mixed with misery and hurt as I barged into my room. I threw myself on my shady mattress and cried, partly because I'm finally free and mostly because horrifying pain consumed me.
The door burst open and I felt a hand grab my hair, again… I yelped in pain but I was thrown against the wall though it hurt less than usual.
“You fu*king slut, how dare you look down on my daughter!” Luna Pearl bellowed, kicking me in the abdomen.
“You even dared to attract the attention of the men there, they kept on pestering me if I would sell you to them because you look beautiful, you stole the limelight and all the ladies thought I'm scorning them, how dare you!” Raveena ranted.
“I'm sorry.” I cried out, apologizing.
They just kept hitting me, I curled into a ball, sobbing and waiting for it to end.
“Not even Bryan would save you from us now!” Raveena uttered, viciously.
She banged my head against the concrete floor and kept scratching at me. I sobbed, the pain was intensifying and in a split second, I heard Winter speak. ‘Fight back!’
I ignored, knowing that everything would soon end. ‘Fight back Ariel, you're not a weakling!’ Winter growled.
At that moment, I gained an inane amount of strength and realization dawned on me hat she's right. I'm no longer the fifteen years old they could bully anymore.
As Luna Pearl made to kick me again, I grabbed her leg and flipped her over, causing her land face flat on the floor, Raveena was startled, I grabbed her hand and bit her deeply, ensuring that my fangs went in.
They shrieked in pain and I rose up.
“You little slut, how dare you touch us, you're done for!” Raveena yelled.
I laughed maniacally. Yes! This was it, freedom. I didn't wait but dashed out of the room, I couldn't go back to the party so I needed to escape somehow.
“You! Stop!” A guard yelled.
I hastened my pace, it was now or never, Raveena had called the guards on me. I managed to successfully lose them but my movements became sluggish, I felt dizzy and struggled to walk straight.
I could feel that I was losing conscious and out of breath. My head spun, Raveena's banging paid off, I felt myself freely falling but at the die minute, a strong pair of arms caught me.
“Are you okay?” I heard, faintly.
I nodded weakly and opened my mouth to speak, vaguely looking at the face of the one who carried me, then everything went dark again.
After a while, I could hear voices as if they were coming from my dream.
‘She’s malnourished, stressed and weak, she needs to be properly taken care of.’ Said a female voice.
‘When do you think she'll regain consciousness?’ A male voice replied.
‘Very soon, she's fine but mostly dehydrated, she needs at least a month of bed rest and intense care.’ The lady replied.
‘Is there anything else I can do?’ He asked.
‘No, she's a really strong woman, her body is full of scars but I think they're weirdly healing themselves. Could be the drugs though.’
‘Thank you Amelia.’
‘Anytime, Alpha Trent.’
Just then, their voices resonated in my head and like a flash, everything came running back through my head. As I remember all that I had happened. With a soft groan, I opened my eyes and instantly sat up.
I looked around saw the owner of the voices, a beautiful woman wearing a white lab coat and the handsome man I bumped into at the party. I stood up and began searching for my shoes.
“Where are my shoes?” I asked.
The woman chuckled and clicked her tongue.”You should still be in bed Wonder-Woman.”
I found my shoes and wore them, I made to leave but the man blocked my path.
“Where are you going?” He asked, curiously.
“Thank you for saving my life but I've got to get back to the Jade Moon Pack, I left something very important behind.” I informed him.
He looked at me like I was crazy.
I pushed him away, gently and began to make my way out. My mom's Jade necklace was in my room. It's a remembrance of her and my identity as a royal in the pack, I must get it back.
I limped as I got to the driveway and a car pulled over. The door was open and I saw the man motion for me to get in.
“Get in, I'll give you a ride.” He offered.
I had no options so I concurred. He drove in silence and I muttered a ‘thank you’ as I highlighted. It was nice to see that no one noticed my absence and I went straight to my room, I opened the door to see an horrific sight.
Raveena and Luna Pearl had overturned all of my belongings and she held my Jade necklace in her hand.
“Hand it over!” I yelled.
She smirked then smashed it on the ground. “No!” I cried out and rushed towards it and as I gathered the shattered pieces, I barked at them. “You had no right touching this!”
Raveena came up to me and kicked me, I stayed still, putting the pieces in the hem of my dress and tied it. Luna Pearl walked up to me and together, they began pummeling me to the ground, kicking, clawing, hitting and cursing me.
I felt a blood trickled down my head and the dizziness returned.
“What the hell do you think you're doing? A voice thundered and they halted.
I heaved a breath of relief and crashed to the ground, the blood blurred my vision and I saw bleakly, someone walk up to me and carried me up.
“You need to rest, let's go home.” He said to me and began to walk away.
“Alpha Trent, you can't take her away!” Raveena protested.
He paused and growled lowly. “One more word from you and I'll rip your tongue off.” He swore, I could feel her fear an he carried me away.
“You saved me, again.” I breathed, weakly.
“Go to sleep, little lamb.”

Chapter 3

Alpha Trent’s POV
I had met her at the very right time. My wolf had brought me to her.
While the coronation was ongoing, I had felt the pull. The mate pull, sensing that my mate was in trouble but I couldn’t understand. I had no mate but then, following the pull, it brought me to her. “Mate! Mate!” My wolf had sneered earlier.
“Do you think she'll be fine?” I asked Amelia for the umpteenth time as she hung an IV drip for the young girl.
“Yes, Alpha Trent, she'll be fine.” Amelia assured me.
“Are you sure? She seems weak, you know I had to carry her into the car, she was unconscious the whole time.” I explained.
“What happened to her?”
“She wanted to get some Jade necklace given to her by her mother. I saw Raveena and her mother beat her up, she just stayed put, doing nothing to defend herself.” I narrated, angrily.
“Well it's only right that you were there to save her, she's sustained some internal injuries but she's healing herself. What's her name?”
“Ariel, but I'll call her little lamb, because her eyes speaks of innocence and courage.”
“Nice name, Ariel.” Amelia replied.
“I'll be back to check up on her, take good care of her.” Amelia informed and walked away.
I sat by her bedside. She looked peaceful while sleeping and her hands was brittle.
‘Oh little lamb, I'm sorry I let you go all by yourself.’ I apologized, gently caressing her hair. She groaned softly and I chuckled, I stayed beside her until nightfall, massaging her foot.
Amelia came over and convinced me to get some rest since I was also exhausted. “Your wounds are barely fully healed, I'll look after her.”
I concurred and went to room and got some sleep, I woke up the next morning to see a message from Kyle, my trusted gamma. I frowned going through the contents, my wolf stirred angrily seeing evidence of the little lamb’s maltreatment and how her pack was razed down years back.
‘I’ll avenge you.’ I swore vehemently under my breathe.
I cleaned up and went to see my little lamb and she was in a better shape, Amelia did a good job cleaning her up because she looked healthier.
“You're awake.” I said, smiling.
She was surprised to see me and my eyes fell in the untouched tray of food on her bed and I frowned slightly.
“Is the food not to your taste?” I asked, curiously.
She shook her head. “I'm not hungry.”
Her stomach growled almost immediately and she was embarrassed, I wondered why she would lie, was she feeling insecure around us?
“Your stomach says otherwise.” I joked and she pursed her lips.
“Thank you for saving my life.” She muttered.
“I went through a lot of trouble to save you but you're willing to thwart it by starving yourself to death?” I asked.
I picked up a fork and began eating the food, savoring the taste to show her that nothing was wrong the food. Reluctantly, she tried eating as well but her hands shook and the fork fell.
She looked at me apologetically and I smiled, I scooped a decent amount of food and pointed it at her mouth, gesturing for her to open up.
She was hesitant at first but I gently nudged her, shyly; she began eating and I fed her until she couldn't eat anymore. My heart shattered into pieces seeing how she had been maltreated.
“I need to leave, someday, I'll repay you.” She announced.
“Where will you go to?” I asked, curiously.
“I don't know yet, I'll figure it out.” She shrugged.
I pinched the bridge of her nose and laughed softly. “Until then, you'll stay with me little lamb, you go nowhere.”
She was about to retort when one of my men rushed towards us, panting.
“Alpha, your attention is needed.” He informed me, hastily.
“What is it?” I asked, displeased that he interrupted my alone time with Ariel.
“The council of elders.” He related, coded.
I grunted and turned around to face Ariel who was confused. “Little lamb, I have business to attend to, he'll escort you to Amelia's place. Stay there and wait for me, okay?” I instructed her. She looked sacred and I hugged her, briefly.
I motioned at the guard and watched as he escorted her. I frowned deeply and made my way to the meeting ground. The elders were seated when I arrived and the murmurings died down as I approached my seat.
“Whatever it is you called me for better be worth it.” I spat, angrily.
A short man with a bald head stepped forward and bowed his head. “Alpha Trent, it has come to our knowledge that you've broken the rules of the pack by abducting the slave of one of your subjects.”
I snickered and shook my head. “What do you mean?”
“He meant that you took away one of my slaves the day you came to my pack for my coronation and I'm here to get her back.” Alpha Bryan stepped out of the crowd and demanded.
“You're here for Ariel?” I asked, amusedly.
“Yes, she's a slave of mine that you have bo jurisdiction over, she has disrespected my mother and must be punished, she ran away from the pack and my sources say she's here.” Alpha Bryan said, arrogantly.
I laughed sarcastically and looked at him in disgust. “What if I refuse to let her go?” I asked, defiantly.
He was taken aback for a moment then he frowned. “Though you're the supreme alpha, there are rules which says you can't forcefully take away my slaves and she's one of them. I can't let her go as she's one of the survivors of the Emerald Moon Pack.”
I was about I retort when the door burst open and Ariel came running in, Amelia running after her. “Bloody liar! I'm no longer your slave! I'm eighteen years old and have gained my freedom from you!” She cried her, desperately.
I could see tears well in her eyes and Bryan frowned, he walked up to her and gave her a slap that sent her flying away. My wolf was angered and I growled loudly, releasing my aura which made it almost impossible for anyone to breathe.
“How dare you!” I thundered, materialized in front of him and gave him a kick that sent him crashing into a nearby pillar. I didn't hold back as I grabbed his neck and began strangling him.
“You've been fooled by her, she's my mate!”
