Chapter 1 — Miscarriage

“The defendant, Ling Chengzhou, is found guilty of embezzlement and bribery. He is sentenced to five years in prison.”
“Yan, get out of here right now. Leave the country if you can. Qiao Yunmo has been lying to you. He's seeing another woman, and it was he who set me up. Leave him as soon as possible.”
“No! No!” Ling Yan woke up from another nightmare. Since her father was put into jail, she hadn't had any good sleep.
She turned to everyone she could think of for help, but knowing her father's situation, they all avoided her. If it were not for the health of the baby, she would never stop doing so.
The rain fell pitter-patter on the window, accompanied by thunder and lightning. She was startled and looked up. A man was seated beside her.
“Qiao Yunmo,” she called his name softly, with overwhelming bitterness. Ling Yan recalled her father's warning and queried, “Why? Why did you do this to my father?”
Why? Why did the man she loved for years have to harm her beloved father after three years' marriage?
Qiao Yunmo looked away from the window and smiled cruelly. “He deserves all these. You know what? Even his life is not enough to pay for what he did.”
“What happened thirteen years ago was an accident. He didn't mean it, and he had tried every way to make amends”
Thirteen years ago, Ling Yan's mother had passed away, which had deeply influenced her father's temperament. He had made some huge acquisitions by force. One thing had led to another. Many people had lost their jobs, and Qiao Yunmo's parents had been among them. On their way to look for new jobs, they had been killed in a car accident, leaving their only son, Qiao Yunmo an orphan. To atone for what he had done, Ling Chengzhou had adopted Qiao Yunmo.
“Accident?” Qiao Yunmo chewed over the word and sneered, “What about Runan? Did he accidentally rape her?”
“What?” Ling Yan was shocked. “No way! That's impossible!”
She was very sure. Her father was an upright and trustworthy man who would never do such things. Qiao Yunmo must be mistaken!
“Impossible?” Anger turned Qiao Yunmo's eyes into bright red. He seized her chin, violently. “I saw it in person!”
“No way! No way!” The sharp pain in the chin caused tears in her eyes. She wanted to argue, but her words were so powerless.
“This is not the end. You will see.” Qiao Yunmo let go of her and stood up, about to leave the room.
“What about me? Who am I? Your wife or a stepping stone for your revenge?”
And what about their marriage? Was it no more than a trial to make his experience more heroic?
Qiao Yunmo stopped, but no response was made.
“Well, besides that,” he turned around at the door, as if recalling something least important, “There's no point in keeping the baby. I've put this pill for medical abortion in your food.”
Abortion?
Ling Yan laid a palm on her belly where her baby had been growing for three months. For the sake of her child, she hadn't skipped one meal even though she had been worried sick about her father these days. But now he was telling her that he had been putting pills in her food all along?

Chapter 2 — Take Care of It

There was an acute pain in her body that seemed to verify what Qiao Yunmo had said.
The pain was familiar to Ling Yan, since she had lost another baby after a similar pain last year.
When she felt something warm flowing out of her body, she panicked and staggered towards her husband. “Please. Please help. It's your child.”
Ling Yan still couldn't believe this man would hurt his own child just to get back at her father. Even though her father had ruined his life once, she hadn't done anything wrong, and the child was absolutely innocent.
The blood coming out of her body made a strong contrast with her snow-white nightdress.
Qiao Yunmo frowned slightly and made a phone call. However, it was not the ambulance that came. It was Jing Haozhi, Qiao Yunmo's personal doctor.
“Take care of it,” Qiao Yunmo ordered coldly, like an experienced executioner.
Ling Yan was devastated. He had been such a perfect loving husband just a few days ago, yet now everything had changed in an unbelievable way. She felt like she had never really known who he was.
“Yunmo, please don't. I can pay for my father's debt, but the child is innocent. It hasn't gotten the chance to even see what the world is like. Do you really want to take that away from it?” Ling Yan crawled back and begged. However, he just stood by, ignoring her.
“Mr. Qiao…” Jing Haozhi couldn't help feeling sympathetic to this poor woman.
“Remember whom you work for.” Qiao Yunmo frowned and stopped him.
After a short period of silence, Qiao Yunmo left without hesitation.
Her last hope was gone, so was the light in her eyes. In despair, she peacefully took the pill from Jing Haozhi and swallowed it down with water.
Her mouth and heart were filled up with bitterness. When Jing Haozhi gave her a piece of candy, she froze. The next thing she knew, she was crying like a child.
She had hated taking medicine ever since her childhood, but unfortunately, she had been getting sick quite often. Every time after she had taken the medicine, Qiao Yunmo would give her candy to make her feel better.
Memories flashed back like the deadliest poison and suffocated her.
Familiar voices were heard outside, and soon, the door was opened.
Ling Yan looked up with tears on her face and visible hatred in her eyes.
“Yunmo.” Wen Runan looked pale and weak. “It was Ling Chengzhou's fault. She didn't do anything.”
“Like I said, there's no point in keeping that child. Considering what her father did, they deserve this.” Qiao Yunmo patted her shoulder gently and comforted her.
Ever since being raped by Ling Chengzhou, Wen Runan had been mentally unstable, so Qiao Yunmo had to stay with her as often as he could.
Ling Yan fixed her eyes on Wen Runan, Qiao Yunmo's childhood sweetheart who claimed to have been raped by her father. Obviously, Wen Runan was the woman her father had warned her about.
“I don't care if you are seeing another woman. But why do you have to kill the baby?” Ling Yan huddled in the corner.
Qiao Yunmo turned to her and said dryly, “I don't want to have a child with you.”
“Yunmo.” Wen Runan bit her lower lip. “Can I talk to her for a while?”
Qiao Yunmo hesitated and took a glance at Ling Yan. Then, he nodded with a frown. “I'll be just outside. Call out if you need help.”
Ling Yan gave him a tense smile. Was he still worried that she might hurt his sweetheart with this broken body?
How cruel he was! He was her husband, but he cared so much about another woman.
After Ling Yan was left alone with Wen Runan, she asked, “You made it all up, didn't you? The rape and your health problem. They are not true, are they?”
“Of course. They are all made up. He didn't rape me. He's just a scapegoat.”
Ling Yan hadn't expected her to admit everything so easily. While she was still astonished, the brutal truth kept bombarding her.
“There's more that may interest you. Actually, the medical abortion was my idea,and your miscarriage last year was because of the pill I put in your food. Poor little things. They could have lived happily if they had not been your children.”

Chapter 3 — She Deserves It

Wen Runan's mild voice and her proud smile cut Ling Yan into pieces.
The hatred and regret built up and burst out all at once . “I'll kill you! I swear, I will!”
She struggled to stand up and jumped at Wen Runan.
Nevertheless, Ling Yan had just experienced a miscarriage, so her attack was not hard to avoid.
Wen Runan swiftly dodged, and Ling Yan fell hard on the ground. More blood was coming out of her body.
“How dare you? You loser!” Wen Runan got angry as well. After quickly looking around, she spotted a knife on the table.
“Are you feeling bad for you little bastard? Let me do you a favor and send you to hell to be with it.” Wen Runan grabbed the knife and seized Ling Yan's hair.
Ling Yan could taste the blood in her mouth. Weak as she was, the anger drove her mad. She wanted to kill this woman, for her lost babies.
All of a sudden, she sprang to her feet and snatched the knife, pointing it at Wen Runan.
Terrified by her expression, Wen Runan screamed, “Ling Yan, please don't!”
The noise alerted Qiao Yunmo, who rushed in and saw Ling Yan pressing against Wen Runan with a knife. There was blood everywhere. Ling Yan looked ghostly pale but furious at the same time.
Qiao Yunmo had never seen his wife like that.
“Stop!” Without a second thought, he dashed towards them.
At the same time, the knife was pushed into Wen Runan's body.
“Runan!” roared Qiao Yunmo.
Time stopped, and the world went silent.
Ling Yan had stabbed her! She had stabbed her! How dare she hurt Runan, the little girl whom he had been protecting so well?
Ling Yan looked at the knife in her hand in confusion. She hadn't really moved. What had happened?
“You can never beat me,” Wen Runan whispered to her. She sounded weak but proud.
Ling Yan couldn't believe that this woman would hurt herself just to set her up!
“Runan, how are you feeling?” Qiao Yunmo pushed Ling Yan away and carried Wen Runan gently. “I'll get you to the hospital. Hang in there.”
“Please don't blame her. She's just having a tough time.” Wen Runan defended Ling Yan with a weak voice.
Ling Yan found it impossible to explain. She breathed hard and shook head blankly. “I didn't… I didn't.”
However, she was bathed in blood and had a knife in her hand. She basically looked like a devil from hell.
“Don't worry, Runan.” Qiao Yunmo cast a glance at Ling Yan. “I'll make sure she pays the price.”
Ling Yan was taken to hospital as well. Wen Runan's surgery lasted for three hours, so Qiao Yunmo waited outside the Emergency Room.
“You should have never hurt her.” His voice was cold like ice.
Ling Yan leaned against a bench, barely surviving.
The nurse came out and briefed them on the situation. “Her kidney is damaged, and she's having a massive hemorrhage. We are running out of blood.”
“Use hers.” Qiao Yunmo pointed at Ling Yan. “And see if her kidney is a match.”
“But…” The nurse hesitated. “She looks…”
“That's fine,” Qiao Yunmo cut in, “I don't care if she dies. She deserves it.”
