Chapter 1 — Awful Day

Melissa Cruise's POV:
I used every bit of strength I had to rush a blood-soaked man to the werewolf hospital's emergency room.
He was a werewolf. And so was I—at least by blood.
But humans raised me, and I've always considered myself one of them. I never wanted anything to do with werewolves, especially not after meeting my biological werewolf parents.
After the man was wheeled into the emergency room, I finally had a moment to catch my breath and reflect on what a god-awful day it had been.
While I was delivering food, a Ferrari next to me was suddenly T-boned by a massive truck that ran a red light.
The Ferrari was completely mangled. The windows shattered, the rear end caught fire, and the whole car looked like it was seconds away from exploding.
Inside, the driver was unconscious and drenched in blood.
I don't even know where I got the courage. I didn't think—just ran up and dragged the man out of the wreckage with all the strength I had.
We made it just a few meters away when ... Boom! The car exploded behind us.
My heart nearly stopped. If I'd hesitated for even a second, I would've been blown to pieces too.
Only after getting him to safety did I realize ... He was a werewolf.
That struck me as strange. Werewolves are incredibly fast—he should've been able to dodge the crash himself.
Before I could dwell on it, the seriously injured man grabbed my wrist with what little strength he had, looked up at me through the blood and haze, and whispered, "Help me ... Take me to the hospital ... I'll give you 100 million dollars ... "
A hundred million dollars?
Had I just saved the richest man in the world or something?
I was still replaying it all in my mind when a nurse came over and urged me to go pay the admission fees.
At the payment window, the receptionist asked, "Name?"
I was just about to answer when she looked up and saw my face. Her attitude did a complete 180.
"Oh! My God! You're Ms. Leticia Dunne—the Alpha heir of our Silverblood Pack! Please wait right here, I'll get a doctor for you right away!"
I let out a bitter laugh at her over-the-top reaction.
Leticia is my older sister. We're identical in every way ... Except our fates.
The year we were born, the entire continent was engulfed in a brutal war between packs.
During the chaos, our biological parents—the Alpha and Luna of the Silverblood Pack—chose to abandon me. I'd fallen seriously ill and was on the brink of death, and they considered me a burden.
I was left on the battlefield to die. But somehow, I survived. After being passed around from place to place, I was eventually adopted by human parents.
Just a month ago, my adoptive parents were severely injured in a car accident and needed expensive treatment.
That's when my biological parents suddenly showed up, claiming they could help save my adoptive mom and dad.
But there was a catch. I had to donate blood to their younger son—Leticia's little brother—who'd been poisoned by wolfsbane. And I couldn't let anyone see my face.
"Leticia has been trained as the Alpha heir since birth," my birth mother, Luna Zoe Winston, had said. "She's had elite werewolf training. She's perfect in every way.
"She's also a renowned beauty. You, on the other hand, are just some weakling raised by humans. You were frail from the moment you were born, and to this day, you haven't even awakened your wolf. You're not even Omega-level.
"We won't let your existence disgrace Leticia's name."
So, for the sake of my adoptive parents' lives, I agreed. I swallowed my pride and said yes.
Since then, I've had to wear ugly makeup every day just to hide my face and avoid being mistaken for Leticia—the shining jewel of the Silverblood Pack.
But tonight, it was late, and I was just out delivering food. I didn't bother with the makeup.
Never in a million years did I think I'd run into someone who would recognize me, let alone accidentally end up at the Silverblood Pack's werewolf hospital.
Now, with no other option, I had to pretend to be "Leticia" and use her name to top up 5,000 dollars for the man's surgery.
After settling everything, I dragged my exhausted body back to my tiny rented apartment and took a hot shower.
While washing my dirty clothes, I found a ring in the pocket. An heirloom ring, with a totem so old and worn it was hard to make out the design.
It must've fallen in when that man was grabbing my shirt.
I didn't think much of it and just set the ring on the table. Then I lay down to rest.
I had no idea how much time had passed when I heard someone banging on the door.
Still in my slippers, I shuffled over and opened it.
"Melissa, you bitch! Did you already forget what I told you?
"You want me to shift and teach you a lesson the hard way?"
Leticia—tall, poised, and furious—stormed in and slapped me hard across the face.

Chapter 2 — Heirloom Ring

Melissa's POV:
"I told you not to go around flaunting my face!"
Leticia bared her sharp wolf fangs at me, her voice seething with fury. "Do you want your pathetic human foster parents to die?"
I knew she was the Alpha heir—strong, dangerous, and trained to dominate.
But I wasn't about to back down. Without hesitation, I slapped her across the face.
All this hierarchy and status in werewolf society? That means nothing to me.
I've never been the type to get bullied or cower before strength.
Besides, her little brother still needed my blood. I knew she wouldn't dare push too far.
Leticia screamed, staggered back a step, clutching her cheek. "Melissa! You hit me?"
I shook out my stinging hand and smirked. "Yeah, I hit you. So what? I'm not one of your pack's low-ranking mutts. What, did you think I was going to let you boss me around just because we share a face?"
"You had the nerve to show up at the Silverblood Pack's hospital in the middle of the night, looking exactly like me ... " she spat. "And even used my name!
"I haven't even picked my Alpha mate yet, and you're out here dragging my name through the mud with some random man! Do you have any idea how that damages my reputation? Shouldn't you at least feel sorry?"
Leticia jabbed a finger at me, practically shaking with rage. "If someone hadn't told my dad this morning, I wouldn't even know how many filthy, shameful things you've done with my face!"
"Your face?" I gave a bitter laugh, then scoffed as I looked her up and down.
What a joke. Same face, same blood—yet I'm not even allowed to show mine to the world.
Leticia must've read the contempt in my expression because her temper snapped. Her body tensed, eyes flashing. She was really about to shift—ready to turn into a wolf and come at me.
She let out a furious snarl and lunged ... But her phone started ringing.
She paused, glanced at the screen, shot me one last death glare, and stepped aside to take the call.
...
Leticia's POV:
I walked a few steps away with the phone in my hand. As I answered, something on the table caught my eye. A ring.
An old heirloom ring with a faded, almost unrecognizable totem. It looked oddly familiar.
"Hello, Leticia?" My mother's voice—Zoe—brought me back to the moment.
"Mommy, what is it?" I asked.
"Oh. My. God. My sweet baby! When did you save Alpha King Adrian?"
She sounded ecstatic. "Why didn't you tell me something so important? His Beta just came to our Silverblood Pack—he said Adrian wants to meet with you next week!"
I froze. My whole body started trembling from the sudden rush of adrenaline.
Alpha King Adrian? I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
My eyes landed back on the ring. It hit me then.
A year ago, I attended a debutante ball, and I still remember the girls gossiping about potential mates. They had passed around a photo of Alpha King Adrian Harlow. In it, he wore this exact ring.
This was his heirloom ring.
Which meant ... The man Melissa dragged to the hospital last night ... It was him.
And because Melissa hadn't bothered with her ugly disguise last night, she went in looking exactly like me. She gave my name to the front desk. So now Adrian thought I was the one who saved him.
I'd accidentally become Alpha King Adrian's "lifesaver".
That was beyond perfect. Even more valuable than being heir to the Silverblood Pack.
"Mommy, I've got something to take care of. We'll talk later."
I hung up and tried to contain the wild excitement bubbling in my chest. While Melissa was distracted, I quietly slipped the ring off the table and into my pocket.

Chapter 3 — It Sucked

Melissa's POV:
I thought Leticia was going to turn into a wolf and at least bite me.
But to my surprise, after taking that phone call, her mood suddenly shifted. She didn't lay a finger on me—just walked off, calm and collected.
Once she left, I pulled on a face mask and rushed to the hospital to find that man.
That ten-million-dollar reward? I nearly died for it. And my foster parents desperately needed the money for their medical bills.
But when I got there and asked the nurse, she told me the man had woken up in the middle of the night and just left.
Didn't leave a name. No phone number. Nothing.
"A liar!"
I was furious. Sure, I hadn't exactly saved him just for the money.
But I had paid 5,000 dollars out of pocket for his emergency treatment—money that was supposed to last me two months.
And he couldn't even say goodbye?
Not only did I lose that 5,000 dollars, but I also got fined 100 bucks from the delivery app for a missed order while I was rescuing him.
I work part-time as a food delivery driver. I'd taken two days off for this, and now all that hard-earned money was gone.
It sucked.
For the next few days, I worked harder than ever during the day, and even picked up a night shift as a security guard.
Every evening after bringing food to the hospital for my foster parents, I headed to the Rainbow Lounge for my security gig.
One night, I was sitting in the surveillance room with a coworker, chatting during downtime, and couldn't help but rant.
"If I hadn't saved that ungrateful jerk, I wouldn't be starving myself down to two meals a day. I've lost weight over this!" I groaned. "The least he could do is pay me back for the medical fees I covered.
"I should've known. Nothing good ever comes from getting involved with werewolves."
After the accident, my foster father, Matthew Cruise, was still in a coma. My foster mother, Dory Turner, stayed by his side in the hospital every day.
Even though my biological parents agreed to cover the major medical costs, I still had plenty of day-to-day expenses to deal with.
That last 5,000 dollars I gave for his surgery? It wiped out my savings.
My coworker, Ryan Cairns, looked at me and asked, "Melissa, you keep talking about this guy, but do you even know his name or what he looks like?"
"I remember his face, but he was unconscious when I found him. How would I know his na ... "
Mid-sentence, I caught sight of a figure on the security feed.
"There! That's him!" I pointed, slapping the table. I shot to my feet, ready to go after him. "That bastard. Finally!"
"Melissa, wait ... "
Ryan grabbed my wrist, eyes wide as he stared at the screen. "Are you sure that's the guy?"
"Absolutely."
I turned to leave again, but Ryan blocked my path.
"Melissa, calm down. That's Adrian. Alpha King Adrian. He rules the Northworld Continent.
"He's cold-blooded and ruthless. A werewolf with a lot of blood on his hands.
"If he wanted to thank you, all he'd have to do is snap his fingers. The fact that he hasn't? Means he doesn't want to pay up.
"Melissa, don't risk your life. It's just 5,000 dollars. Consider it a donation."
"Alpha King Adrian?"
I sucked in a sharp breath.
Rainbow Lounge is one of the top-tier clubs in Gotham. We serve the rich and powerful—I've heard his name before.
Ryan had a point.
But I still couldn't let it go. I wanted that money back.
So I waited until 1 a.m., when I finally saw Adrian leaving his private suite on the security feed. As soon as he stepped into the elevator, I followed.
Rainbow Lounge's 8th floor was the bar. Above that were the hotel suites.
In the elevator, I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. He was half a head taller than me, his aura radiating that unmistakable Alpha King dominance.
But something was off—his usually sharp, handsome face was flushed. His long fingers kept tugging at his collar like he was overheated. Maybe a little drunk?
When the doors opened on the 38th floor, he stepped out, and I followed close behind.
But after just a few steps, he suddenly stopped. I was so focused on tailing him that I bumped right into his back. "Ouch ... You ... "
In one swift motion, his hand clamped around my neck. "Who are you?" he growled, his voice like ice.
"Ouch ... "
I gasped, his grip cutting off my air. I clawed at his hand. "Let ... Go ... I ... I can't breathe ... "
His brow furrowed slightly. He reached up and yanked off my security cap.
Then his sharp wolf eyes locked onto mine as he barked ...
