Chapter 1 — Divorce Papers
CHAPTER ONE
Divorce Papers.
JASMINE'S POV
I staggered back, the pain hit me like thunderbolt, leaving my senses shattered as I struggled to carry my body.
I shivered, swallowed by an abyss of despair, one that could lead me agonizing for eternity.
Tears raced down my burning face as I clutch onto my stomach, I was bleeding profusely by now and all I could do was scream for help.
The truck driver who hit my car had fled the scene a few minutes ago. I'd been injured so badly and my baby bump made it more difficult to move as I growled in pain.
‘Mum’s gonna save you.’ I whispered as I grabbed my cellphone to call the only person I knew could save us.
Alpha Martinez Winston… My husband and mate. I knew he felt absolutely nothing but disgust for me but at least he won't watch me die. Not when his pup is involved in this!
I called multiple times but he kept ignoring all of my calls. I finally gave up on trying to reach him, gathered the last ooze of strength left in me and dragged my fragile body out of the car.
My eyes were starting to spin, my legs felt wobbly and it felt like I was gonna pass out any moment from now but I kept pushing. For my unborn baby… I have come 7months far already. I couldn't afford to lose my baby.
I whispered words of affirmations to myself as I dragged my feets but a few steps further I crashed onto the floor, my vision was blurred as I heard people screaming from a distance and rushing towards my direction. I shut my eyes and slowly, I slipped out of consciousness.
****
“I'm sorry Mrs Jasmine Winston, we couldn't save the baby" The doctor sighed.
Those words pierced through my chest and I felt my heart instantly contract. Fresh tears raced down my face.
After seven months of pain and torment I thought I'll finally become a mother.
"Mrs Winston?” The doctor snapped.
"I'm fine, I just need time to…" I didn't even finish my statement before she nodded.
“I understand. You can rest as much as you want." She said before leaving.
I tried Martinez's number again for the 8th time and he finally picked.
"I lost the baby…” I blurted, sobbing yet again. It felt like my whole world had come to a halt and all I needed now was comfort.
"So? Is that why you're distracting me?” He fumed.
I was shocked and unable to say anything for the next few minutes. How could he say such a thing to me? He knew how hard I worked for this pregnancy and after five years I finally conceived only to lose my last ray of hope.
"You lost the baby, so? We'll make another one. I'm busy right now. Stop calling me!” He yelled and hung up..
I blinked twice, unable to process what had just happened!!!
For five years, Alpha Martinez had always treated me this way, cold and distant like I was a piece of shit he couldn't get rid of.
And the painful truth was, I had grown used to it.
This marriage had only happened because six years ago I had saved the previous Alpha, Martinez's father from an accident and because of that, he pushed Martinez to get married to me and after much persuasion, he finally gave in.
I knew from the start, Martinez never wanted me but I kept hoping and praying that one day, just one day he'll notice me, that he might care for the sake of their unborn child
Well, clearly, I had hoped too much.
I pulled out my phone to order for a cab but got a notification from Beta Lucas, Martinez's best friend.
Curiosity took the best of me and I played the video without thinking twice.
What I saw made my blood turn cold and I gasped for air.
There I saw my husband, a bouquet of flowers in his hand as he took the hand of another woman.
I recognised her face almost immediately. She was Summer, Martinez's Ex and first love.
It felt like I had been punched on the face.
The television in the hospital seemed to be casting the same video and everyone was watching!
Alpha Martinez pulled her into a hug and the next second they were kissing.
My jaw dropped, the humiliation hit me like a wave.
“Hold on, isn't that her husband?" A nurse asked, pointing at me.
"So he abandoned his wife in the hospital and went after another woman?” A lady whispered.
“You can't blame him, clearly Miss Summer is way better and more interesting. In my opinion she's more deserving of the title Luna.”
So this was the important meeting? This was why Martinez had ignored all my calls, because of his sweetheart.
I wiped off the tears that hung on my face. I was done crying for him! Five whole years and I had dedicated myself to this monster hoping he would change but now I know better and I'll never accept the title of ‘the other woman’ in his life.
I stormed out of the hospital more determined than ever, got home and started packing all my belongings… I was done with this bullshit called a marriage.
There was no point trying to fix anything because no matter how hard I tried, his heart would always belong to her, Summer.
When I was done arranging my bags, I mustered the courage to pull out a file and without hesitation I signed it.
It's time to do what I should have done a long time ago.
A few minutes past midnight, Martinez staggered back home, half drunk. Our eyes met before he turned away.
“I was waiting for you." I started, my eyes still fixed on him.
His eyes drifted to my neatly arranged boxes and he frowned his face. "That video Lucas sent, it was a mistake.” He said bluntly.
“There's no need to explain anything." I cut through sharply.
"There's also no need to act petty. You know Summer means the world to me. If not for my father I'd never get entangled with someone like you…” He spat.
“After today, I'll never bother you again." I spilled, fighting back the tears in my eyes.
"What do
you mean by that?” He asked confused and that was when I flew it at his face.
“Divorce papers, sign them."
Chapter 2 — Another Encounter With My Ex?
CHAPTER TWO
Another Encounter with my Ex?
JASMINE'S POV
“Are you crazy?" Martinez fumed as he took steps close to me. I swallowed an invisible lump stuck in my throat but still stood my ground.
"I'm merely relieving you of the stress of seeing me everyday. Sign them and you can be with her.” I scoffed. My face was flat, devoid of emotions.
Never in my entire life did I know a day like this would surface. Otherwise I would have walked away years ago. I stood by Martinez, took care of him and even nursed him when he had gotten into a fatal accident because of Summer. But what did I get in return? A cold heart wrenching betrayal.
“I'll sign the papers tomorrow, go to bed. Tomorrow you can take your things and leave." He finally said.
“No! Everything ends today. Sign the papers, you've waited all these years for a divorce. Why are you adamant about signing it?" I asked.
“Is this about the miscarriage?" He asked, disgust plastered all over his face.
"That pregnancy was nothing but a mere mistake! Besides, you don't deserve to carry my pup. You should be glad the accident helped you ride that bastard.” He mocked.
I cling my fist, anger surging through my veins but I managed to control myself.
“I'm glad I lost the baby too, you don't deserve to be a father!" I spat.
My words seemed to trigger something within him. He grabbed the papers and signed them immediately.
“I hope you don't come back crawling at my feet and begging as usual." He spat.
I rolled my eyes, he really does see himself as a god.
I took the documents, tossed it into my bag and walked away..
Martinez stood there, lost and confused as I walked away.
In the past, he was the one that normally asks for a divorce. Usually, I would storm out for a while, then come crawling back, trying twice as hard to win him over.
I'd cook all his favourite dishes, wash all his clothes myself and even kneel and beg him to take me back.
There had never been any different scenario. It was the same pattern, same timing.
I knew Martinez expected to see me crawling back and begging but I was determined to surprise him this time around.
The divorce agreement came with a price of 70 million dollars and an apartment.
The debit card and the papers of the house were placed together.
If I had signed the divorce papers years ago, then I could've walked away with all that without worrying about a man who didn't give a shit about me.
But instead, I’d wasted five years chasing a dream that drained my body and soul. And what did I get in return? A failed marriage, miscarriage and slim chances of ever becoming a mother.
I shoved the thought off my mind, dwelling in the past would only tear me apart. I needed to think straight now and life had to move forward.
At least having that money was still better than walking away with nothing.
I picked up my bags, the debit card and divorce papers with me as I walked out of the mansion.
It was very late already but I was still able to hail a cab that dropped me off at the gates of East Haven Estate.
“Welcome to EHE resort and suit. How can I help you?" The receptionist asked.
I didn't have the strength to speak so I just passed the papers to her.
Three years ago, Alpha Martinez's father had added to his will that if Martinez ever divorced me, I was entitled to 70 million dollars from his company and an apartment.
Back then I hadn't taken his words seriously but now? Let's just say I understand better.
I arrived my crib thirty minutes later,
The receptionist had already scheduled a cleaning service when I arrived so the place was spotless, large and well decorated.
I took my bath and collapsed on the bed.
Today has been a very long day.
*****
The buzz of the alarm clock made me jerk up with speed.
It was six in the morning, I picked up my phone and saw a familiar label.
‘Wakie wakie, time to prepare breakfast for hubby.’
I rolled my eyes and hissed, then lay back to rest.
Everyday I'd wake up by exactly 6am and start preparing the Alpha's meals. One food wasn't enough so I had to make varieties of meals.
I never complained, all I wanted was for him to acknowledge my efforts but he never did. Some days he'll reject his meals claiming they weren't good enough. Other days he did manage to eat a few spoons before dumping the food and leaving for work.
Well, I'm free from that lifestyle and I'm never going back!
I slept off again and by the time I pulled my eyes open it was 8am.
My phone had been ringing non- stop.
10 missed calls from Martinez and 8 missed calls from Laura, the omega I left in charge of his meals.
Just then a message from Martinez popped on my screen.
“Playing hard to get? We'll see how long you can survive before crawling back on your feet!"
I could feel the rage within him merely by reading his messages. I wasn't even gone for more than 24hours and he was already panicking?
I deleted the message and blocked his number as well as Laura's. I was done with that family and there was no going back.
I freshened up, took the divorce papers to the court and finalised the divorce agreement. In two weeks, the legal documents would be mailed to my apartment and the same goes for Martinez.
I decided it was time to have a little fun so I called an old friend, Elena.
When she picked, she didn't sound so excited to hear from me.
"Long time no see..” she hummed.
"Hi Elena, I'm a few blocks away from your home. Can we get to see?” I asked. Hoping for the worst response.
"Why? It's not like you ever honoured any of my invitations.” She spat.
I sighed, I deserved whatever treatment she was giving me. I've not been a good friend in the past.
“Martinez and I, we are divorced." I spilled.
“Holy Molly! How?!" She screamed.
“I'll tell you all about it when we meet. I'll wait for you at Kerb’s Coffee shop." I said before hanging up.
The coffee shop was a five minute walk, so I decided to stroll down to the place. I kept my eyes glued on my screen. Searching for any news about our divorce. I was so engrossed in what I was doing, I didn't know when I bumped into something, or rather someone.
“Watch where you're going!"
The familiar voice growled. I raised my face and was shocked to see Alpha Martinez standing before me.
Chapter 3 — I'm Not A Maid!
CHAPTER THREE
I'm Not A Maid!
JASMINE'S POV
Martinez's eyes locked on mine and I felt a cold chill down my spine, I never thought I'd be running into my ex husband anytime soon.
His facial expression was flat and cold, like I was some kind of stranger. I wasn't surprised, even after five years of marriage, I meant absolutely nothing to him.
“Stalking me again? Don't you ever get tired of playing silly games?" Alpha Martinez whispered.
I wanted to say something to him but on second thought, I held it back to myself. There was no use creating a scene in public. I didn't even want to be spotted with him.
“When you're done acting tough, return home and maybe I'll think about forgiving you." He hummed then looked away, uninterested.
Just then his assistant Benjamin stepped into the Cafeteria. He wasn't shocked to me see, they probably thought I'd come here to stalk Martinez because in the past, whenever a divorce conflict arises I always ended up stalking and apologising a zillion times before he forgives me.
"Alpha, the professor in charge of the tech company has arrived. He's waiting for you. Right over there.” Benjamin announced, totally ignoring my presence.
Martinez didn't spare me another glance as he followed Benjamin promptly.
I wanted to scream! I should have known he'd be here and avoid him, I cursed.
I stared at their direction and saw Martinez exchanging pleasantries with a very familiar man.
I recognised him at once! He was my professor back at Vital School Of Tech. One of the best professors back then leading a team of computer scientists and renovating a new system of Ai.
"Alpha, what a pleasant honour to met you.” professor Morris chuckled as our eyes met.
He seemed to recognise me as well and I looked away immediately. A blush of embarrassment plastered all over my face.
"The lady you were talking to earlier… may I ask, who is she?” Morris added.
"Nobody special, she's one of my maids.” He scoffed confidently.
Maid?.. the words echoed in my head over and over. I clutched my fist.
How dare Martinez say such ridiculous things about me?
Professor Morris cast a confused glance at me before proceeding to the via arena with Alpha Martinez.
"I thought they were married? How then is she his maid?” Someone whispered audibly enough to another person.
"I pity her, she's yet to find out another woman has claimed her husband.” The second responded.
I rolled my eyes, if only they knew I'd divorced their beloved Alpha, I was done being the undercover wife and babysitter of a full grown man and his family. I don't equally care about his relationship with Summer.
I vividly remember our wedding night. Martinez came back drunk and started to make love to me but midway he whispered “Summer." That was the worst day of my life.
He punished me severely and didn't speak to me for a whole week because I pushed him off that night.
My thoughts were interrupted when someone gently tapped my table, I looked up to see Benjamin standing very close behind me.
His face was tight with irritation as he asked coldly, "What are you doing here? Didn't Mr. Winston warn you not to follow him around?” he barked.
Back then, all my focus had been on Martinez so I stayed polite. No matter how much Benjamin pushed and bullied me, I let it slide and never gave him attitude. Sometimes I even packaged a lunch box for him just so I could easily sneak into Martinez's office to surprise him during lunch.
Benjamin figured that I was probably still mad about what happened yesterday.
"If you're angry about Ms. Summer being back in town, then you need to think carefully. I'm sure you know how much she means to the Alpha. Just me, stalking him won't change a thing. So I advise you to stop your miserable games and get out."
“And what exactly do you mean by ‘stalking’ , are you blind? Can't you see this place was specially reserved?” I asked.
The expression on his face showed he didn't see that coming. I had always been timid, always submissive. Now I'm sharp, almost defiant.
“I understand you had a miscarriage yesterday, that's still not enough reason to be rude. Please leave this premises before the Alpha returns." He stared.
“The last time I checked, I divorced your Alpha 24hours ago. Which means where I chose to stay is none of your business.” I scoffed, sipping from my glass of wine.
“I don't want to argue with you, Jasmine. Just leave already." He muttered, visibly frustrated.
“Neither do I derive pleasure speaking with you.” I snapped.
“Says a divorced woman still wearing her wedding ring?" He mocked.
After a few moments of back and forth. He finally gave up and walked away. Since I didn't want to create another scene I hurriedly finished up my drink and slipped out of the Cafeteria.
I texted Elena and informed her I'll be in the jewelry store near the cafe. It was time to get rid of this ring and everything that has to do with Martinez!
