Chapter 1 — The Day of His Release
In the Nightbane Prison, located in the southern wastelands of Drakhan, Cassian Reed's eyes were fixed on the frail young lady, supported by her maid, and said impatiently, "Come on, hurry up. Take your pants off quickly, and let's get this over with."
With her flowing locks, radiant smile, and a hint of defiance in her eyes, the young lady standing before him was a breathtaking sight, a woman who seemed more than capable of holding her own in any situation.
"How dare you! Do you know who my lady is? If you speak so disrespectfully again, I'll cut out your tongue!" the maid scolded loudly.
"Cut out my tongue? What a joke! No one in this world could do that, at least, not yet! And you better think this through. Right now, you're the ones asking me for help. If you don't want the antidote, find someone else!" Cassian sneered, flipping his hand dismissively as he turned to walk away.
However, he was stopped by the prison warden, Edmund, who stood at the door.
"Mr. Cassian, please don't be angry. The poison on Ms. Lazelle can only be cured by you. I'm begging you, please help us," Edmund said, his voice filled with desperation.
The prison warden humbly sought help from a prisoner with a humble demeanor.
This was because, three years ago, after Cassian was imprisoned in Nightbane for intentionally causing harm, he met an extraordinary figure.
The old man claimed to be a Supreme Immortal, arriving at Nightbane Prison for a few months to refine a mysterious Nightbane Divine Stone that no one had ever seen before.
The other prisoners dismissed the old man as a madman and ignored him.
After Cassian was imprisoned, the old man saw his extraordinary potential and took him under his wing as a student. He imparted his vast knowledge—advanced medical techniques, divine arts, immortality practices, and ancient mystical arts.
Even behind bars, Cassian thrived, using his skills to gain influence and control over his surroundings.
With his master being a Supreme Immortal, the people in the prison began to address Cassian with respect as Mr. Cassian.
"Edmund, today's the day I'm finally being released. The fact that I'm willing to stay a little longer to help you save someone is already a favor. If she refuses to cooperate, should I really be expected to beg her?" Cassian said impatiently.
"That's not what I meant, Mr. Cassian. Please, just give me a moment. I'll speak with Ms. Lazelle."
Edmund then hurried over to the young lady and whispered something in her ear.
After a brief moment of contemplation, the young lady reluctantly nodded.
"You two go out first. I need to speak with Dr. Reed alone for a moment."
"Yes."
Edmund and the maid exited the room, leaving the young lady sitting on the edge of the bed, sweating heavily, unable to speak from the pain.
Her injury was on her hip.
"Don't try to endure it. Lie down. According to Edmund's description, the bite was probably from a specially bred venomous snake. It could have come from the Venomshade Sect of Greenfang.
"If you don't get the toxins out of your body quickly, you'll be paralyzed at best, spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair, or worse, dead.
"Finding me is your blessing. Stop dragging it out, and do as I say."
As Cassian spoke, the poison in the young lady's body flared up again. She hesitated, her hands still resting on her waist.
"You should seek treatment if you're sick," Cassian said seriously.
Finally, the young lady gave in. She reluctantly removed part of her pants, then slowly pulled down her lace underwear.
Cassian sat quietly to the side, maintaining an outward calm, but inwardly, a fire of desire was steadily growing.
As a normal man, it is impossible not to have some reaction when facing such a seductive scene.
The round and perky buttocks and tight muscle lines are full of endless temptation.
Just as his thoughts began to wander, the young lady's next words immediately pulled him back to the topic.
"I am Irene Lazelle. Remember my name from now on!" The woman said, her gaze cold and lethal. "If you heal me, I'll reward you handsomely. But if you try to take advantage of me, I guarantee you'll regret it!"
Cassian chuckled and said coldly, "Heh, you underestimate me. I may not be a good man, but I have no interest in preying on someone when they're vulnerable."
Irene said nothing more, her gaze sharp with suspicion.
"This may hurt a little. Try to hold on," Cassian said, reluctantly looking away.
He pulled a silver needle from his sleeve and expertly pierced several acupoints on Irene's body.
And with incredible speed, the poisonous blood sprayed out!
Chapter 2 — A Skill Like No Other
Amazing skills!
"Ugh ... "
Irene winced in pain, biting down on the pillow with all her might, not making a sound.
After a few minutes, Cassian noticed the blood oozing from the wound had turned red. He quickly removed the silver needle and gently applied some medicine to the wound.
I must admit, the touch is just perfect.
"You're fine now. Get up." Cassian said.
"That fast!?"
Irene quickly jumped to her feet, fastening her pants. As she checked herself, she found that aside from some swelling and pain around the wound on her hip, there was no other discomfort.
Her expression softened as she looked at Cassian, his medical expertise was undeniably impressive.
"Dr. Reed, I owe you a favor. How would you like me to repay you?" Irene asked, her eyes wary.
She wasn't short on money, but she feared he might ask for something more personal.
However, it seemed she was overthinking it.
Cassian waved his hand casually. "No need to repay me. Today's the day I'm released. If you're fine, you should leave now. I need to pack my things."
Then, he turned and walked off.
Irene looked surprised.
"Are you alright?" the maid asked as she walked into the room.
"Yeah." Irene nodded.
"I didn't expect him to have some skills." The maid was somewhat surprised.
But Edmund was not surprised at all.
"Thank you, Mr. Croft. Please give this business card to Dr. Reed and let him know that if he ever needs any help, he's welcome to come to me." Irene handed over a card.
"No problem." Edmund nodded.
Irene, accompanied by her maid, left Nightbane Prison.
As they walked away, the memory of that deadly snake sent a shiver down their spines.
"Ms. Lazelle, I think you should give up. The Reeds were massacred 20 years ago by a highly skilled assassin. Your father was seriously injured by a mysterious figure, and now you've been attacked by a venomous snake. It's clear someone powerful wants us to stay out of this."
"The more they try to stop me, the more determined I am to uncover the truth! Uncle James and my father were sworn brothers. I can't stand by while his family is wronged!
"Besides, our families were promised to each other since birth. When the Reed family was destroyed, Uncle James's child escaped with a servant.
"My father has been thinking about that child all these years. I will find him and bring him back!" Irene's gaze was determined.
"Isn't Mr. Reed's son your fiancé? What if you find him and your father insists on the marriage, but that man is unworthy of you?" the maid asked with concern.
"That ... We'll talk about it later."
Irene furrowed her brows, feeling uncertain.
Cassian's image flashed into her mind. He was so young, yet he possessed incredible medical skills. He'd tamed even the most vicious inmates in Nightbane Prison and was undeniably handsome.
Remembering the earlier moment when he had helped her remove her pants to treat the poison, Irene's face blushed.
I wish Uncle James's child was as talented. No matter if we end up together or not, at least my father would be happy.
"Where shall we go now, Ms. Lazelle?" the maid asked.
"To Petal Grove. Mr. Dale has kindly invited me, and I should at least show him some respect."
...
"Glevsky, the assassin from Frostholm, congratulates Mr. Cassian on your release."
"Bruce, the Nightlord, congratulates Mr. Cassian on your release."
"Flint, the Flower Bandit, congratulates Mr. Cassian on your release."
"Thousand Illusions congratulates Mr. Cassian on your release."
...
Cassian dragged his luggage down the path, and every prisoner he passed offered their congratulations.
"Hehe. Don't get too excited. Edmund is my friend, and if he tells me any of you are causing trouble, I'll be right back to have a little chat with you." Cassian smirked, knowing exactly what the prisoners were thinking.
"No, no, no!" The prisoners cowered in fear.
No one knew better than they did how terrifying Cassian was.
The inmates here were all hardened criminals, each a notorious figure in their past.
Cassian had ended up in prison due to being framed, but now, he almost owed a debt of gratitude to the person who set him up—if not for that, he would never have gained such remarkable skills.
Chapter 3 — Released Early for Meritorious Service
"Edmund, I'm leaving now. If you need any help, feel free to contact me," Cassian said to the prison warden, Edmund.
"Alright, Mr. Cassian, safe travels. I've already booked your flight back to Petal Grove. By the way, this is Ms. Lazelle's business card. She asked me to give it to you," Edmund said.
Cassian couldn't be bothered to ask about Irene's identity and casually slipped the business card into his pocket before setting off on his journey home.
"I'll make sure you live the best life!" Cassian said firmly, holding a family photo in his hand, his determination unwavering.
He also remembered his mentor's final advice: to focus on his training. In two months, he would head to Tempest Isle, where his mentor had left something special for him.
Five hours later, Cassian arrived in Petal Grove, Silverstream.
The picturesque town was just as he remembered, the evening sky descending as the city lights began to flicker on.
As he walked down the familiar streets, the air was filled with the lively sounds of street vendors peddling their goods.
The street was famous for its wide range of night market snacks.
But Cassian wasn't interested in stopping. He was eager to get home to his family.
"Dad, Mom, Iris ... I wonder how they're doing."
But before he could go much further, he heard a loud crash from nearby. A woman selling skewers had her stall knocked over!
To make matters worse, a group of thugs was causing a scene, even going so far as to harass the woman.
"I beg you, please let me go. My dad is in the hospital, waiting for money for his treatment. I just can't afford the protection fee," the woman pleaded desperately, tears streaming down her face.
"Heh, can't pay the protection fee? No problem." The leader of the thugs chuckled. "Tonight, just spend some time having fun with us."
"No! Blake, please, just let me go ... Please!" The woman collapsed to the ground, pleading for mercy.
The thugs, driven by desires, showed no intention of letting her go and began to drag her away. The onlookers, however, were too scared to intervene.
Just then, a cold voice rang out from behind the thugs.
"Let my sister go!"
Cassian's shout was loud, echoing through the street.
Some of the bystanders instinctively covered their ears at the force of his shout.
But the woman didn't find it loud. As soon as her eyes met Cassian's, her tears flowed uncontrollably.
"Cassian, is it really you?" Iris Reed asked in disbelief, her voice trembling.
"Iris, of course it's me. Do you not recognize your own brother?" Cassian's eyes were also red.
"Cassian!" Iris cried out, rushing into his arms.
She hadn't talked about their lives in the past three years, but Cassian could see from his sister's situation that they must have gone through a lot.
Three years ago, Iris was accepted into Drakhan's most prestigious music academy. Had things gone as planned, she would have been studying there now, with a bright future ahead after graduation.
Given her exceptional talent in music, it was highly likely that she would have become a renowned musician.
But the reality was different. The once-promising Iris, with a bright future ahead of her, was now struggling to make a living at a night market. Her delicate hands were scarred and rough from the hard work, her face was worn and pale, and there were even a few strands of gray hairs.
"I'm sorry. I should have taken better care of you," Cassian said, his heart breaking as he saw his sister so worn down by life.
She was his cherished little sister!
Back then, Cassian protected his sister from a drunk rich kid who was harassing her. In a fit of rage, he severely injured the guy and was sent to prison.
"Cassian, it's not your fault. It's mine. I'm the one who's sorry. Sobs ... " Iris cried, her heartache and frustration that had been bottled up for so long finally pouring out.
Just then, the thugs, having regained their composure, approached and surrounded Cassian.
"Heh, so the prisoner is back. I heard you were sentenced to ten years, yet you're out after only three? Oh, I get it. You must have escaped, right?" Blake Anderson, the leader of the thugs, mocked.
Iris instantly panicked at his words.
"Cassian, did you really escape?" she asked worriedly.
"Of course not. I was released early for meritorious service," Cassian explained.
Meritorious service?
Even Iris found this reason hard to believe.
