Chapter 1 — The Alpha Who Abandoned Me

Ella Elliot's POV
I scratched “1001” into the wall with my claws.
That made it one thousand and one days.
Damn it. It’s been that long already?
I looked up at the tiny sliver of sky through the barred window and let out a furious howl.
This was the Isolation Zone — a prison for werewolves who’d lost control.
I didn’t belong here!
Thud! A fist slammed into me.
The momentary clarity in my head blurred again.
My howl had drawn in a group of rabid wolves. They charged at me.
They pinned me down, howling and snarling like beasts.
I curled up on the floor, arms over my head, letting the pack of rogues beat me senseless.
I couldn’t feel the pain anymore. I was used to it. It was a daily thing.
Suddenly, a spiked boot smashed through the crowd. A flurry of yelps and shrieks, and the weight on top of me vanished.
A guard.
He kicked them off like trash, scattering the rogues until I was the only one left, lying flat on the floor.
“Number 1001!” the guard barked. His voice was rough like sandpaper. “The Alpha’s here. He wants to see you. Move it!”
Who?
Alpha? My brother, Carl?
A familiar face flashed in my mind, and my stomach twisted with nausea.
Alpha Carl Elliot. The glorious new leader of the Windward Pack. And also — my beloved older brother.
The same brother who threw me into this godforsaken place three years ago.
He came? He actually remembered his sister?
Hah! What for? What good was it now? He might as well have left me here to die.
My wolf, long dormant, stirred with rage. I didn’t want to see him.
I lay still on the ground like a corpse.
“Are you f*cking deaf?” The guard lost his patience. He grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked me up.
My scalp burned, but I gritted my teeth. This was nothing.
The torment I’d been through these past three years was far worse.
I was dragged like a sack of garbage to the washroom.
A blast of ice-cold water slammed into me, like they were hosing down livestock.
I curled into the corner, shivering so hard my teeth clacked. I felt frozen all the way down to my soul.
Eventually, the “bath” ended. I was shoved into a coarse prison uniform and hauled to the visitation room.
And then — I saw him.
Carl. My brother.
He sat there like a king on his throne, even though it was just a broken chair.
His arms were crossed, his brows furrowed, and he looked at me like I was a burden.
His Alpha aura rolled off him, and instinctively, I trembled.
That power used to make me feel safe. Now it just made me sick.
Memories I didn’t ask for surged through my head.
My mother vanished after giving birth to me.
When a werewolf loses their mate, it’s like losing the moon.
My father, the Alpha, died of a broken heart not long after.
With him gone, the pack fell into chaos — until my second brother, Carl, and my eldest brother, Liam Elliot, stepped up.
Carl became Alpha. Liam became Beta. Together, they restored the pack to its former glory.
Back then, Carl still adored me.
He used to ruffle my hair and smile, saying, “Ella, no one’s gonna mess with you when I’m around.”
No one dared to hurt me. And in the end, he was the first to hurt me.
He was the one who locked me up in a place meant for lunatics.
How ironic.
My chest ached. I stared at the floor.
I used to be confused, heartbroken. I couldn’t understand why someone who once loved me so much would do that.
Now, all I felt was hate. The kind of hate that could burn bones to ash.
I didn’t look at Carl. But my wolf did. If I had the chance, I’d rip him apart.
Not yet, though. My wolf was barely hanging on. I needed to gather my strength.
My wolf told me Carl was scanning me, eyes full of judgment and thinly veiled impatience.
“Seraphina said she misses you,” he said flatly, his tone edged with command. “She begged me to bring you back. Starting today, you can leave this place.”
Leave?
My head snapped up. I looked him straight in the eye.

Chapter 2 — The Flames That Never Died

Ella's POV
What was Carl saying?
Seraphina begged them — kindly — to take me out of this hellhole?
Hah. As if.
That woman was pure venom.
There’s no way she missed me.
She wanted me dead.
I was thrown into the Isolation Zone because she framed me!
Carl clearly noticed the change in my expression.
“But there’s a condition,” he added coldly. “Once you’re back, you’re going to get along with Seraphina. No more causing trouble.”
How dare they? How could they ask me to “get along” with the woman who destroyed my life?
I remembered the day my world began to fall apart.
It was five years ago — the day our missing mother came back.
And with her, she brought a daughter from another man.
My half-sister: Seraphina Rose.
My brothers were immediately taken with her. They didn’t resent this illegitimate child — instead, they wanted to protect her.
I became the extra piece. But I didn’t notice.
I was too naive. I followed their lead, treating Seraphina with kindness.
And what did I get in return? Betrayal. Lies.
She was born to play the victim. Always innocent in front of the brothers, always setting traps behind their backs.
Three years ago… the fire. I can still smell the burning.
We’d gone to a little cabin at the edge of the pack’s territory. Just the two of us.
We played until we were tired. Then we fell asleep inside.
I didn’t know what happened — but when I woke up, Seraphina was gone. And the cabin was filled with smoke.
It was on fire.
I was trapped inside.
Seraphina — who should’ve been beside me — came rushing back through the door.
She screamed that she was going to save me.
She stumbled and staggered. She made those fifteen feet look like five thousand.
It was all a performance. She was acting like a hero. For all I knew, she started that fire.
I turned toward the door, and my brother Carl came running in.
I wanted to call out to him, to beg him for help — but Seraphina collapsed into his arms.
“Ella, I’m taking Seraphina out first! Wait for me!” Carl shouted.
He scooped up that bastard child and left me behind. In the smoke. In the flames.
He left me there to die.
I missed the only window for rescue. I still carry the scars from that day.
Later, I was recovering in the hospital.
That b*tch came to visit. While my brothers stepped out to get me something, she leaned in close to my ear and whispered, “See? He chose me. There’s no love for you in this family.”
I snapped. I beat her senseless.
Just in time for the brothers to walk in and see it.
I told them the truth. I told them what Seraphina really was.
But they didn’t believe me. They thought I’d lost my mind.
All they saw was me attacking Seraphina.
The second she teared up, I became the crazy, violent monster.
I was shaking with rage.
Seraphina took the chance to grab a fruit knife and waved it in front of me.
I tore it from her hand in fury.
I didn’t want to kill her.
She smiled — that wicked, triumphant smile — and threw herself into my arms.
She made it look like I stabbed her.
I stared at my brothers in shock.
They stared at me — holding the knife — while she lay bleeding on the floor.
Perfect, wasn’t it?
They thought I’d gone insane.
I was branded a rogue — a werewolf who’d lost control — and thrown into the Isolation Zone.
And in here, I really did lose my mind.
“You’re not gonna say anything?” Carl’s voice snapped me back to the present.
He sounded pissed. “What? You’ve gotten used to this dump?”
Used to it? I almost laughed.
Did he have any idea what this place was really like? What kind of wolves I lived with every day?
A pack of unhinged beasts who could tear me apart at any second.
And my "dear" brothers thought they’d sent me somewhere nice. They thought this was some cozy rehab center where I was “recovering.”
What a joke.
If Seraphina said it, they believed it.
I used to beg Carl — desperately — to let me out. I told him this place was hell. Nothing like what Seraphina had described.
It was useless.
In his eyes, I was just a liar. A troublemaker. He wouldn’t believe anything I said.
Eventually, I learned to keep my mouth shut.
But this silence only made Carl angrier.
“Say something! What’s with that terrifying look in your eyes? You still not better?!” he growled. “You’re not still thinking of getting revenge on Seraphina, are you? Huh?”
I stayed quiet.
I knew if I said anything, I’d only be accused of more.
Suddenly, Carl kicked over a brazier beside him.
Hot coals scattered everywhere, the heat searing my skin.
Fire.
The flames dragged me straight back to that day — the burning, the betrayal, the moment my brother left me behind.
“Help me!” My body panicked before my brain could react. I scrambled backward, trying to escape the heat.
Carl looked at me with disgust. “Cut the act. We’re evolved werewolves. Windward wolves don’t fear fire.”
Then something seemed to click in his head, and his eyes lit up.
He pointed at the brazier, his voice smug like he’d just thought of something clever.
“If you’ve really recovered, then grab one of those coals. Do that, and I’ll believe you. You’ll be free to go.”
My blood ran cold.
What was he saying?
He wanted me to grab burning coals — with my bare hand?
Terror gripped my heart like a frozen claw.

Chapter 3 — Brave Enough to Burn

Ella’s POV:
Carl was serious. He was forcing me to make a choice:
Grab the burning coals and prove that I was just as “normal” as any other wolf in Windward Pack…
Or stay locked up in this hell.
I stared at him in disbelief.
Was I the crazy one—or was it Carl?
Why the hell was he doing this to me?
Moon Goddess… with how Carl’s treating me, how is he not going to rot in hell someday?
“Say yes! We have to get out!” My wolf was screaming inside me.
“We need to get out to heal!” It pushed down my rage and made the right call for us.
Carl was Alpha now. He was the only way I’d ever leave this place.
I couldn’t think of him as someone who still loved me. He stopped being my brother a long time ago.
No brother would ever do this to his own sister.
I had to survive.
I had to get out. I had to get out.
Screw it.
I lunged forward and slammed my right hand straight into the pile of burning coals.
“Hhss—!”
Damn it, it hurt.
There’s no way to describe it. The pain shot up my arm like electricity and tore through my brain.
The smell of burning flesh made me want to vomit.
My hand screamed. My nerves begged for mercy.
But I clenched my teeth and swallowed every sound.
My whole body shook like a leaf in the wind. Cold sweat drenched my clothes.
“I was just testing your courage! I didn’t mean for you to actually do it!” Carl shouted as he rushed over and grabbed my wrist, yanking me away from the fire.
He didn’t mean it?
Did he seriously think this was just some sick little game?
I’m his sister. Not his servant.
What the hell is wrong with him?
I looked down at my hand—blackened, blistered, shredded to the bone—and I felt nothing but numb despair.
Carl froze. He stared at my hand, then looked at me.
And in his eyes, I saw shock. And worse—hesitation.
“Does it hurt?” he asked, voice hoarse.
What do you think?
Of course, it hurt. It hurt so bad I could kill someone.
But does it hurt as much as your betrayal? As much as the three years I spent rotting in that hell?
I yanked my arm away from him and hid the burned hand behind my back.
His touch made my skin crawl.
Then I looked up and forced out a cold, maybe even slightly twisted smile.
“See? I haven’t lost the courage to face fire. That should be enough proof that I’m no longer sick. So… can I leave now, Alpha?”
My words hit him like ice water, snuffing out whatever tiny flicker of pity he had left for me.
“Alpha?” he said, almost stunned. “You used to call me Carl.”
“I asked if I’m cured. Can I leave now?”
His face darkened. “That’s how you talk to your brother?”
He didn’t wait for an answer. Just stormed off in anger.
I stared at his back as he disappeared.
And then, three seconds later, his furious voice echoed down the hall.
“Damn it! Why the hell aren’t you coming?!”
Finally, I could leave this goddamn place.
