Chapter 1 — Betrayal at the Cliff's Edge
Sarah Kincaid's POV
"Alpha Sarah, your reign ends here!"
The man before me snarled with blood-red wolf eyes, locking me in a deadly standoff.
Behind him stood the Gamma of the Iron Pack—the same pack that had been our sworn enemy for years—along with a swarm of their wolf warriors.
They closed in, forcing me back toward the cliff’s edge.
My body trembled with weakness, the wolf’s bane poison sapping my strength, but I held my ground and stared at him in disbelief. “Why?”
He was my Beta—the one I trusted most. He had always been obedient and respectful, practically a lapdog when managing the pack’s affairs by my side.
I never imagined he would betray me, that he’d bring our enemies into the heart of the Moon Pack and try to kill me.
A twisted, feral grin spread across his face as he barked, “For two hundred years, the Moon Pack’s alphas have always been the strongest men. You’re a woman. You were never worthy to lead us!”
What a joke.
I looked at him with scorn. “So poisoning me with wolf’s bane and endangering the lives of innocent pack members was just your excuse to let the enemy in?”
“Enough talk! The Iron Pack’s alpha promised me—once you’re dead, I take over as the Moon Pack’s alpha. He’ll withdraw his troops, and the Iron Pack will officially make peace and form an alliance with us.”
Once I’m dead, the Iron Pack’s alpha won’t rest until he’s devoured what’s left of us.
I actually laughed at how pathetic he was.
As he and his wolves crouched, ready to strike, I braced myself with my wolf, Verona.
But the poison dulled her power—I could barely tap into even a fraction of her strength.
Surrounded by elite wolf warriors, I knew my chances of survival were slim.
Still, I would fight with everything I had. I would not go down without a fight.
“Then come on!” I roared, surrendering control to Verona.
In a flash, the enemy wolves lunged at me.
I leapt into the fray.
My back arched, claws burning hot.
Blood blurred my vision—I could smell my own.
With my left paw, I slashed open one enemy’s belly.
A bite tore through my right shoulder, and I crushed the attacker’s skull in return.
My Beta came for me. I dodged and clamped down on his wrist.
The sound of breaking bone rang out, followed by his scream.
More wolves piled on, their claws ripping through my fur.
I threw my head back and howled one final time.
The energy core inside me surged and burned.
I bared my fangs and growled at the remaining enemies. “We die together!”
A blinding light exploded across the battlefield. Just before it did, I saw the terror in my Beta’s eyes.
With the last of my strength, I drove my claws into his throat.
His body crumpled like garbage, and I tossed it into the abyss without a second thought.
An overwhelming exhaustion swept over me. My legs gave out, and I tumbled backward off the cliff as my consciousness faded.
I knew I wouldn’t make it out alive.
The Moon Pack’s fate—my duty to protect it—would go unfulfilled.
But I wasn’t ready to die. I wasn’t ready to let go. Not yet. Not like this.
Chapter 2 — A New Body, A New Chance
Sarah's POV
I didn’t know if the Moon Goddess had truly heard my prayer.
But I could hear it—my heartbeat, steady and clear.
Could it be… I’m still alive?
Verona?
Verona?
I called for my wolf, again and again, but no matter how hard I tried, there was no response from her.
My body was far too exhausted—no matter how much effort I summoned, I couldn’t even open my eyes.
But my mind was sharp. Fully alert.
I could hear everything happening around me. The sound of unfamiliar voices arguing—loud, shrill, jarring.
"My daughter ended up with a concussion, and this is all your school is willing to pay?" a sharp female voice snapped.
"I’m telling you, if we don’t get a hundred grand today, we’ll see you in court! I’ll rally the whole neighborhood to protest until your school shuts down!"
"Madam Kincaid, can you be reasonable?" a deep, cutting male voice responded coldly. "Your daughter isn’t some toddler. Do you really expect her teacher to watch her every second?"
"And besides, any normal werewolf would’ve reacted fast enough not to fall down the stairs."
"She only fell because she doesn’t have a wolf. That, and she’s overweight and clumsy. This was her own fault. The school’s already doing more than enough by covering half her medical bills."
The woman screeched again. "So all this talking means you just don’t want to pay, is that it?"
Their arguing made my head throb.
As an alpha, I’d never had to endure subordinates raising their voices in front of me. No one dared.
My anger flared so intensely that I snapped my eyes open. I glared at the strangers squabbling inside what looked like a hospital room and barked coldly, "Shut up!"
They all froze and stared at me.
"Who the hell are you people?"
As soon as I spoke, I realized—this wasn’t my voice.
I instinctively reached for my throat, only to notice my arm… thick and unfamiliar.
What the hell?
This body… it wasn’t mine.
In frustration, I slapped my own head, and suddenly, a flood of memories that didn’t belong to me surged into my mind like a tidal wave.
That’s when it hit me—I’d been reborn in this body.
The girl whose body I now inhabited had the same name as me: Sarah.
She’d been a werewolf from Snow Pack, a tiny, weak pack tucked away in the remote northwest of the Moon Pack's territory.
Because she was overweight and had no wolf, she was shunned, bullied constantly… a pitiful girl.
Thanks to the memories now in my head, I immediately recognized the sharp-tongued woman in front of me—Lily, her bitter, alcoholic mother.
The man arguing with her was David, the school principal’s secretary.
And cowering in the corner was her drug-addicted, dazed, and spineless father.
As I tried to make sense of it all, their bickering flared up again.
Lily glared at David with blood-red wolf eyes. "My daughter has amnesia, and your school’s just tossing out a little hush money? You people are evil!"
David’s voice grew louder. "Madam Kincaid, calm down!"
"Sarah, it’s me, your father! Don’t you recognize me?"
"Sarah, look carefully! We’re your family!"
They all rushed to my bedside again, talking over each other, and my headache exploded into a full-blown migraine.
I’d had enough. "Get out!" I roared. "All of you—shut up and get out!"
"Stop yelling! Sarah just woke up—let her rest. If you’ve got something to say, take it outside," Darren Kincaid finally grew a backbone and ushered the rest of them out.
Silence, at last.
The faint scent of disinfectant hung in the air, grounding me.
I walked into the bathroom and stared at the unfamiliar face in the mirror for a long time—at least ten minutes.
This new body was overweight, yes, but the facial features weren’t actually bad.
Once the weight was gone, she might even look as striking as I once did.
"Sarah."
I whispered the name aloud—the same name as mine.
If the Moon Goddess truly heard me… if she gave me this second chance…
Then I won’t waste it.
I’ll use this new life to get my revenge.
One day, I will return to Moon Pack as its rightful alpha.
Chapter 3 — A Wolf Awakens
Sarah's POV
Once I’d calmed my emotions, I accepted my new identity with quiet resolve and returned to the hospital room to continue my recovery.
I only stayed the night. The very next morning, my mother, Lily, barged in and rushed me to leave.
“Hurry up and change. You’re coming home. The school barely paid anything, and we don’t have money to keep you in the hospital.”
She shoved the clothes she brought right at me, her movements rough and careless.
I glared at her, clenching my fists to suppress the fury rising in my chest.
If I were still Alpha Sarah and she dared speak to me like that, I would’ve made her regret it a thousand times over.
But now, with this new identity, I couldn’t risk drawing attention. I had to stay under the radar.
I steadied myself, took the clothes, and changed without a word.
Once we left the hospital, Lily and Darren dumped me on the sidewalk, shoved a house key into my hand, and headed to work without so much as a glance back.
I didn’t even have enough money for a cab. Relying solely on the original Sarah’s memories, I walked home on foot.
This body was so out of shape that the walk left me completely drained. The moment I stepped through the door, I collapsed onto the couch.
I didn’t know when I’d be able to reach Verona again. If I could just tap into her strength, even moving around wouldn’t feel so exhausting.
As I lay there, a thin, ordinary-ranked boy came out from the kitchen.
It was Finn Kincaid—my new body’s younger brother.
When he saw me, his expression didn’t hold the disgust Lily always wore. He stayed silent but handed me a sandwich.
Before I could speak, another voice cut through the moment.
“You’re a fat, ugly loser without a wolf. All you ever do is eat and sleep. Too bad that fall didn’t kill you.”
Finn had gone upstairs, and Lina Kincaid stormed in to take his place—my sister, full of venom and spite.
I clenched my teeth, my eyes narrowing sharply at her. If Verona were awake right now, I swear I would’ve lunged at her and torn her throat out.
“What are you looking at? You’re an embarrassment. I can’t believe I have a sister like you.”
Lina sneered, then turned away and flipped on the TV.
A breaking news report flashed on the screen: the Iron Pack’s alpha had officially announced the annexation of the Moon Pack.
The burning hatred in my chest nearly made me lose control. I dug my nails into my palm until the pain grounded me again.
Iron Pack… I, Alpha Sarah, will make you pay for this.
The rage and bitterness left me completely drained. Ignoring Lina, I hauled myself off the couch and dragged this heavy body upstairs to my room.
As I passed Finn’s door, I caught a glimpse of him frowning down at a math problem, clearly struggling.
My senses were still as sharp as ever. That realization made my heart skip. I immediately reached out—one more time—for Verona.
“Hey! I’m awake!”
“My powers haven’t fully recovered yet, so I might fall dormant again. But I swear, I’ll always be there for you when it counts.”
Her voice echoed clearly in my mind.
The flood of joy that surged through me nearly brought tears to my eyes—something I never allowed myself to feel.
Verona had been reborn with me. My powerful wolf… she was still with me!
“What are you doing outside my door?” Finn asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I masked my emotions quickly and shifted the topic. “Struggling with your math homework?”
He frowned and nodded.
I walked over and glanced at the problem he was stuck on.
It was an advanced competition-level question—definitely tough for an average werewolf like him.
But for me? Child’s play.
I took the pen from him and, in less than a minute, wrote out the full solution step by step in his notebook.
Finn stared at it in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief.
“No way… How is this possible?”
“You’ve always sucked at school just like you do at sports. How could you solve a problem like this?”
