Chapter 1
Zara's POV
"Wait up Zara!" my friend called from behind me as we ran through the forest.
There had been news that the border had been infiltrated. As I breezed past trees that had surrounded my entire childhood, my hearing picked up my friend, Hanna's beating heart as she tried to catch up to me.
"Come on. Hurry!"I yelled as I increased my pace.
"You're too fast!" she called back.
My lips widened in a proud smile because I knew that was true. Even as a werewolf, I had been created differently. According to my father who had been my strongest support. He had told me stories about the day I had been born. My mother had died during childbirth. With my distinctive white hair and bright eyes while he and my mother both had normal brown eyes that changed to a light shade of yellow when they turned. At first, I had been tagged as cursed but had been eventually accepted as one of them.
I grew up following in my father's footsteps as best as I could. As a veteran Decorated warrior who had fought in the battle between the humans and our kind, and had been among the leaders that had come back in victory. So now, I wanted to fight for my people.
I pulled to a halting stop stilling my actions. My vision blurred.
The only sounds I heard were the echoing of the forest.
"Zara!"
"Zara" the voice repeated.
I felt the hair at the back of my nape stand on edge as I felt the intensity of my emotions. I shivered at the chill in the air.
The room was dark filling with only one light shining down on me. Suddenly the image warped and I was standing in the forest surrounded by the thickest trees I had ever seen.
But what had caught my attention was his voice.
"Zara," he said in a whisper.
His voice held a rich dark tone that seemed to melt my insides.
"Who are you?" I called out.
"Show yourself!" I shouted.
A shadow passed by me in a flash leaving a trial of its scent. I took one deep breath to inhale and felt a smile creep up on my face.
"You're so beautiful" the voice came again.
"Show yourself!" I demanded looking around the forest as the shadow moved.
"In time we'll meet." The voice said.
I jerked as I felt a hand trailing up the back of my hand to my shoulder when I felt his breath. His lips came down on my shoulder kissing and nibbling as he trailed up my neck. I arched my neck in response, giving him access and sighed in pleasure as I felt my body burn hot for him.
I turned to find him gone.
I grimaced as I felt tears streak down my face.
Why was I crying? Why did I feel so sad at the thought of him leaving?
"Wait! Don't go! Come back!" I called out but the voice was gone and with it so my heart.
I raised my hand to my chest to calm my rapidly beating heart as it yearned for its owner.
Then suddenly everything went black.
I gasped for air as I opened my eyes.
"Oh my goodness you scared us!" Hanna said as she breathed a sigh of relief.
"What happened?" I croaked out.
"You just.. fainted."Hanna volunteered.
I turned to my right to see Connor, one of my best friend's face scrunched up in worry.
"We need to take you to the pack's healer to see what happened. Come on.."
"...no, no am fine it's okay. I'm okay" I told them and to prove it, I rose from the floor, dusted myself off, and spread out my hands with a huge smile.
"See?"
I hissed in pain.
My hand came up to the side of my shoulder where it stung. On high alert now, My friends rose to check it out.
They gasped, wide-eyed as they inspected the mark.
"What?"I asked, my panic growing.
"You've been marked!" Hanna shouted.
My eyes widened in horror.
After the whole incident in the forest, which both unnerved and scared me, it wasn't as shocking as the news about Hanna and Connor mating. The whole signal had been a lie. It was just a ploy for them to meet each other whenever they carved each other's touch.
I grimaced at the thought but my lips widened in a knowing smile.
We went back to the pack after being sworn to secrecy to not reveal anything that had happened especially to my father, the Alpha.
The full moon was at its peak. It was mating season. Married or mated couples would be unable to resist this time. But as one who had never been one to succumb to such selfish desires, I had never been able to relate to couples who said that they felt a strong pull to mate when the moon was at its peak. Almost like they had been possessed by the spirit of lust.Until now.
I felt him before I heard him. His scent wafted through mine, my foot moved in the direction of the call. Without thinking I marched in the direction of his cry.His cry for me. He needed me and judging by my trembling hands, I needed him too. I felt a strong itch and I knew that he was the only one that could scratch it.
I walked safely through the array of forests that splayed around the huge fields until I got to the border. The last of my brain cells cried for a reason but my inner wolf bellowed for him. So reluctantly I walked past the demarcation against my better judgment.
As I walked through the unfamiliar grounds no direction other than his scent. I trailed through the forest until I got to a high-rise edge where a black wold stood howling at the full moon.
His field was beautifully luscious and glistened under the moonlight. He was big for a wolf and stood powerfully arched toward the moon.
I stood unnoticed for a few seconds.
"Get closer" my inner wolf whispered.
Without thinking, I took a step forward snapping a branch. I stared back up in surprise to see piercing green eyes staring straight at me with hunger in his eyes. My palms were sweating, my heart palpated faster, and I felt entranced almost like I was floating. My body instinctively drew closer to where he stood. All I heard were two words as I drew closer to him.
"It's him"
"He's mine"
Chapter 2
KANE'S POV
"Alpha Kane, we need your help!"One of the warriors yelled as I slashed through the human who had his gun poised at me. Growling, I ran to approach the net that had held one of my lieutenants as he struggled to break free.
Who knew that we would be ambushed on our way to hunt? We had held our ground instead of hiding like other werewolves do. We were the best of the best. We had the strongest and fastest warriors in our clan and we didn't need anyone's help. We can take care of it ourselves.
"Look out!"
I turned to see an arrow heading straight for me. With a swipe of my hand, I caught the fast-speeding arrow in midair. The culprit's eye widened in fear and shock. Taking one step back out of fear. My lips widened in a smirk, I sent the arrow flying back at him until it was embedded in his chest. Directly in his heart.
No one messes with my people and gets away with it. We turned to the back to see the last of the hunters being taken down by my men. Relieved now that the threat was over, I released my claws cutting through the intricately crafted net.
After our ordeal with the hunters, we carried our prize over to the pack house for the mating ceremony coming up tonight.
I heard the sound of laughter.
"Did you hear that?" I asked directing to the man beside me.
"No Alpha Kane" the warrior responded and continued what he had been doing.
The full moon was coming and couples were gearing up for a new mating season. I paused in my tracks as a shift of a familiar scent wafted through me.
"Is something wrong?"
I turned to my lieutenant staring back at me with a confused frown etched onto his features.
I feigned a smile at him shaking away the thoughts that clouded my mind
"Am okay. Just take these bodies out in the fields and have them burned. There's going to be more of them soon and we need to show them what we are capable of"I instructed.
"Yes sir."
I watched as he walked away dragging a body along with him as he instructed the others on my orders.
Getting into my house, the first thing I saw was a table filled with delectable dishes.
A knowing smile spread across my lips.
"Luna, you don't have to do all this you know?"I said
"Of course, I have to. I can't be freeloading over here. That's not who I am"the feminine voice called from the kitchen.
She came out of the room clad in an apron with a glass of alcohol in hand and two glassware.
I burst out laughing.
From the moment Luna had taken me in, I knew that she was going to be one of the greatest additions to my life. She was roughly my only mother figure in my life since my parents had passed away in the battle that had claimed almost one-third of our pack's population.
She sat on one side of the table settling in comfortably.
"Sit down" she ordered placing an empty glass in front of me. She poured the red liquid carefully into our glasses topping it up.
We took one swig from our glasses before she finally spoke up.
"So talk to me, what happened out there?"She asked taking another gulp.
"We were ambushed on our way to hunt but we took care of it" I responded nonchalantly digging into a piece of chicken and onto my plate.
Her movements were swift. A hand slapped against the back of my head. My chicken fell back onto the plate. I stared back at her in surprise.
"What did you do that for?!"I cried rubbing the area in feigned pain.
"What are you trying to say? I meant the scent you just got a few minutes ago" she replied.
My eyes widened in surprise.
"How did you...?"
I stopped mid-sentence as I realized my blunder.
"I didn't think you could see things now, "I said focusing on my meal.
"I didn't need to see any more than you have to admit it," she responded before taking another swig from the bottle this time.
I nodded not believing a word she was saying.
"But seriously it's about time, to find a mate. It's been too long and the clock's ticking. You're not getting any younger. You need a woman in your life." she advised.
"But I do have women in my life" I refuted with a mouth full of chicken.
She gave me a wry look.
"Having me and any other fling you've been having doesn't count," she replied wryly.
I nodded distractedly still focused on my meal.
She let out a defeated sigh.
"For goodness sake, are you even listening to me?" she asked
"Luna, I appreciate all that you've been telling me but I've just not found that one. Frankly speaking, I'm starting to believe that my mate doesn't exist."I responded, dropping the chicken I held in my hand as my appetite began to subside.
"So there hasn't been any woman in our pack that has caught your attention or has been able to ignite your inner wolf.
I shook my head vehemently. Feeling tired, I rose from my chair and excused myself. I needed to leave the conversation.
Later that night I decided to stroll through the forest away from the sounds that filled the grounds as couples mated and lone wolves cried out for their wolves that were away. While wolves without mates, like me roamed around in search of theirs.
I paused in my tracks as my heartbeat quickened. My head throbbed with images of a woman. There were flashes and there was nothing definite about them but they were enough to get my inner wolf excited.
I ran forward as fast as I could unable to control my own body. The longing in my heart grew so bad that it was almost painful. Unable to keep it in, I howled. I howled for her. She was close, I could feel it.
I don't know how long I stood there, I turned as her scent wafted through my nostrils.
"She's here"my inner wolf whispered.
I could feel it deep in my core.
My head whipped around at the sound. And there she was, her silver-white hair flowing behind her as the silent wind whipped it around. Her eyes were beautiful and glowed blue, unlike anything I had ever seen before.
My lips widened in a smile.
"She's mine".
Chapter 3
ZARA'S POV
With each step I took closer to him, my heart rammed into my chest.
"Come closer" he ordered and without hesitation, my body obeyed before my mind could interject.
I felt my toes curl with anticipation. He was standing gloriously shirtless from transforming but I didn't look away, no matter how much I tried to, I couldn't.
Now a hair's breadth away, his arms reached out to wrap around my waist, pulling me into him. His warmth drew me in. His breath fanned my nape as he trailed kisses down my neck. I moaned as his touch elicited tiny flames that burned from underneath his fingertips on my flesh.
"You're so beautiful "he sighed in ecstasy.
He pulled us down until my back was placed on the ground. He began his assault on my body with his kisses.
I moaned, throwing my head back in ecstasy. I felt my body burn with blazing fire. His hands trailed up my thighs until it was fixed at the junction of my thighs.
He parted my thighs, settling himself in between my thighs.
"I want you," he said huskily, raising questioning eyes at me, waiting for my permission.
His chest heaved. My breathing hitched in my throat as my body moved before I could contemplate.
I nodded. The blaring sound of reason long forgotten. Letting out a deep breath, he raised himself on his hands on either side of me and pulled his pants down with his free hand as he laid gently onto me. I felt his hot breath fan my lips. His lips hovered over mine for a split second, hesitant before coming down on mine.
His voice lowered to a whisper as he leaned his head to my ears.
"Do you trust me?" he whispered.
I nodded without hesitation. There was just something about him, the way his caresses made me feel. It made my mind lose all its inhibitions.
I took a deep breath as I felt him slowly slip into me. I had never let anyone inside me before. It felt new.
Very new.
My arms encircled his neck dragging my nails along his back as I fought to accommodate him. I whimpered in pain as he grew deeper inside me.
His hands wiped the sweat off my forehead, sticking the hair strand that had shrouded my vision away.
"Are you okay?" he cooed, placing a soft kiss on my forehead.
I felt my heart swell with joy as my inner wolf jumped giddily.
Not in control, I raised my legs to encircle his hips encouraging him as I felt his withdrawal. I wasn't myself. I couldn't control my body. It was like it acted of its own accord satisfying its selfish desires.
A smile crept up on my face as I saw him settle back down unto me.
"I'll be gentle," he said in gruff promise.
He began to move. With each thrust, he grew deeper and deeper until my body accommodated the bulk of him in me. I cried out in ecstasy as the pressure built up and my vision blurred.
I felt my toes curl up as the tension built up. His thrusts became hard and fast and with each thrust, our bond grew stronger.
So close to climax, I felt his breath fanning the side of my nape. Partly unconscious from the overload of ecstasy, I felt his fangs dig into my flesh, breaking skin.
I roared as the pain morphed into pleasure. I felt the world fall away as it imploded inside me.
We lay panting for a few minutes roughly after making love like a pack of dogs on the tree barks, on the mossy earth, over and over unable to scratch the itch that seemed to build as we grew closer to each other. We just couldn't have enough of each other.
Who knows what Connor would say if he found her in such a compromising position?
Making love to a stranger in the middle of nowhere away from civilization under the full moon was not her ideal situation.
I scoffed.
He raised his head to stare back at me with his hands under his body supporting his stance. He arched a brow up at me with an amused smile playing on his lips.
"What's funny?" he asked gruffly.
I frowned in confusion.
"I don't understand"I responded.
He raised himself off me and stood, gloriously naked. I felt my cheeks stain pink at the thought of what we had just done. My first time was with a stranger. I couldn't wrap my head around it.
"Do you like what you see?" he said with a smug smile.
My hands instinctively came up to cover my privates feeling self-conscious now as the chill air of the night reminded me.
"You don't need to hide yourself from me. You're very beautiful" he stated, staring straight at me with such intensity, that I had to look away.
"Let me help you up," he said offering his outstretched hand. I eyed the hand skeptically but chose to raise myself without his help.
My hands still covered my privates, my eyes roamed around the forest searching for my discarded clothes.
"What are you looking for?" he asked from behind me.
I heard shuffling as he struggled into his pants.
"My clothes," I said as I bent on my haunches, separating the scattering of fallen autumn leaves to search for them.
"Here they are," he said.
I spun around to find him with my clothes in hand. My bra was ripped in half and my panties were shredded from the sheer force that was used to rip them off me.
I scowled, raising an accusing glare at him. He stared at me with a smug grin.
Letting out a resigned sigh I took whatever of my clothes that I could salvage.
"How are you going to get back?" he asked as I donned on my pants, buttoning it down in the middle.
"Where is this place anyway?"I asked, pulling my tank top over my head and down my neck and body.
Now sufficiently dressed, I turned my attention back to him. He bent to pick up a piece of metal that glistened under the fading moonlight.
Raising suspicious eyes at him, I went into defense mode.
"Am telling you now that I will be very difficult prey for you to kill," I told him in a fight stance as I raised challenging eyes to him.
He stared at me in confusion for a split second before he burst out laughing. I recoiled in confusion.
"You thought I wanted to hurt you?" he said after he calmed down.
I said nothing.
"Honey, if I wanted to hurt you, I would have done that a long time ago," he told me, taking one menacing step toward me.
"What are you doing?"I asked as I took a step back.
Now backed up against tree bark, he pulled to a halt in front of me and bent till he was at my eye level before placing a soft kiss at the crook of my neck.
I winced in pain.
He gave me a huge grin as he stood back on his feet.
"You see sweetie. You're mine now"
