Chapter 1 — Penance Under the Blood Moon

Susan Summers' POV:
My hand was buried in the freezing snow, a metallic taste of blood lingering in my mouth.
Outside, the tribe celebrated the annual Moon Festival, but here I was, shackled by silver chains, waiting for the verdict on my fate.
The full moon loomed over the Grayclaw Tribe's totem pole, its cold glow slicing through my shattered spine like sharp arrows of light.
"Confess!" My grandfather's wolf claws shattered the altar beneath the totem, pieces of stone flying into my eye. "Swear on the blood moon that you pushed Cynthia down the stairs!"
With great effort, I lifted my head, blood smearing my right eye and leaving only a blurry glimpse of the world. My father, Frank Lincoln, held a bone whip, its silver-studded nails gleaming ominously under the moonlight. It was the symbol of the Grayclaw Tribe's firstborn. His fangs bared, his paws still stained with remnants of my fur.
"Last chance," my father growled, his voice low and menacing like a wolf's howl. It was the oppressive power an Alpha holds over an Omega. "Admit you killed your unborn brother, and I will remove the chains."
Pain shot through my ankle like fire. The silver shackles devoured my ability to heal, and the skin around the wound was blackening with dark, infected blood.
The agony cleared my mind for a moment, and I was taken back to the night before, to the full moon.
I had been performing my duties as a servant, cleaning a room, when I accidentally saw my stepmother, Cynthia Mullen, applying something from a small bottle to her skin.
The bottle released a powerful scent—pheromones I, as a werewolf, instantly recognized. It was the scent only wolves produce when they are pregnant.
Why would Cynthia use this on herself?
I didn't dare ask. As an Omega, I had learned in the Grayclaw Tribe to keep my head down and focus on my tasks—survival meant staying unnoticed.
I saw Cynthia glance at me, then hurriedly rush to the door.
Moments later, she fell down the stairs, and somehow, I found myself here, bound to this cursed pillar, covered in strange runes.
"Why did you push your mother down the stairs?" My grandfather's voice seethed with fury. "We raised you, and yet—this worthless Omega—you would do this to us?"
The surrounding wolves howled in anger.
I struggled against the crushing pressure of the blood-scented air and managed to speak, "I didn't! She jumped on her own! I found out her secret!"
"Liar!" My grandfather's sharp teeth were almost touching my open wound. His wolf fang necklace scraped against my collarbone. "You're just like your Rogue mother—disgusting."
He mentioned my birth mother with utter disdain. A Rogue had once entered the Grayclaw Tribe, and after giving birth to me, she died. She had tainted Frank, the Alpha's bloodline, by bearing an Omega, and my grandfather had never forgiven her.
"This Omega not only harmed her own mother, who would've been Luna of the tribe, but she also killed the tribe's future Alpha—my grandson!
"She's a traitor! She betrayed the tribe! She betrayed the family!"
Grandfather pointed at me, shouting to the wolves surrounding us, "According to the laws of our kind, after the whipping, I give you permission to kill her with your bites and feast on her flesh!"
The wolves howled in excitement and slowly closed in on me, their eyes gleaming with hunger, as they plotted where to start—where the flesh would be the most tender.
Suddenly, snow began to fall more heavily, the icy crystals catching the moonlight like thousands of silver needles. I bit my lip, tasting my own blood—I couldn't let myself cry. A werewolf's tears would only spread the silver poison faster.
But fear gripped me as I yearned for my mother. I never imagined that the terror of being torn apart by wolves would numb the pain of silver burning through my flesh.
"Frank ... " Cynthia's faint voice called out from the stone house, thick with a sugary sweetness. "Don't be too hard on Susan. She's just a pup; of course, she doesn't understand. After all, she's your blood ... "
My father's pupils dilated into vertical slits. I knew how much he hated hearing anyone mention that my blood came from him.
The bone whip, studded with silver nails, cut through the air, and I heard the sickening snap of my left shoulder breaking.
Dizzy, I thought I heard a voice deep within my soul calling out to me.
"Susan, bite off the tattoo on your hand!" something called out.
"You're useless! You don't even have the wolf spirit!" my grandfather spat, his saliva mixing with the snowflakes that hit my face. "You're not even worthy of being a sentinel. Do you think you can be Grayclaw's bloodline?"
The pain of the bone whip tearing through my flesh was relentless, and the wolves around me eagerly waited for their feast.
"Susan! Bite the tattoo on your hand! It's the only way to save you! Do it now!"
The voice echoed in my mind, urgent and desperate. I didn't understand why biting my hand would save me, but in the brief moment before the whip fell again, I bit down on the tattoo that had always marked me. The force of it tore off a chunk of skin.
That action drained the last of my strength.
As my vision blurred and my consciousness faded, I saw eight beams of silver light explode from the southeastern sky.
It was as though something had answered. My heart jolted with a powerful tremor, and the seal within me cracked open. A warm force surged through my veins, blooming like fiery flowers, sweeping away the silver poison that had been eating away at me.

Chapter 2 — The Eight Alphas

Eason Summers' POV:
For the first time in over 30 years, I felt a strange stir in my chest as I was being scolded.
The Silvermoon Alliance was a mighty coalition of tribes, led by eight high-ranking Alphas, and I was one of them—the Alpha of the Silvershade Tribe.
Within my tribe, I was an unquestioned leader, but when it came to Laurence Summers, the venerable patriarch of the Silvermoon Tribe, I knew better than to act with any sort of Alpha pride.
"Another year, Eason. Where is your mate? Are we really going to let the bloodline of the Silvermoon Alliance's Alphas fade away?" Laurence's voice cut through the air like a knife.
The eight of us—Laurence's adopted sons—sat in silence, avoiding his gaze. Despite having grown into our own Alphas, running our respective tribes, we were still children in his eyes.
I nervously scratched at my nose.
For werewolves, finding a destined mate wasn't a simple task. The situation was made even more awkward by the fact that none of the eight of us had found our true mate.
Ivan Summers and Zain Summers, the oldest among us, had been paired with contract mates long ago by Laurence. But their children hadn't inherited the qualities of high-ranking Alphas, which left the hope of the bloodline resting on the remaining five of us.
If things didn't change soon, Laurence would force us to mate with contract partners, all in an attempt to preserve the Silvermoon Alliance's legacy.
For the tribe's survival, even an Alpha had to humble himself.
Suddenly, Laurence's tone softened, and he asked, "And what about your sister? After 15 years, have you found her yet?"
A heavy silence fell over the room. The faces of my brothers, who had been passively listening moments ago, now wore expressions of sorrow.
Our sister, Jenny, had been suffering from Mad Wolf Syndrome since she was a child. Every full moon, she would uncontrollably transform, attacking anyone near her.
For 20 years, we had cared for her, but her condition worsened, even taking a toll on her memory.
Fifteen years ago, Jenny disappeared without a trace.
As a werewolf healer, blessed by the Goddess, I had been in charge of her treatment.
That day, I was performing emergency surgery on a patient who had been pierced by silver, and in that moment, Jenny vanished.
For the past 15 years, guilt and regret weighed heavily on me. Despite my healing powers, I had made no progress.
Out of the eight Alphas in the Silvermoon Alliance, we were all adopted, except for Laurence's biological daughter—Jenny.
After her disappearance, Laurence's temper had become unpredictable, and the burden was felt throughout the entire Alliance. It was as if a great weight was crushing everyone's chest, suffocating us.
My older brother, Ivan, Alpha of the Silverfang Tribe and leader of Silvermoon Enterprises, worked tirelessly day and night, growing more exhausted with each passing day, relying on stimulants to keep going.
My third brother, Freddie Summers, Alpha of the Silvereye Tribe and the Alliance's top mechanic, had been on a four-year leave after failing his psychological evaluation.
Freddie ...
The room fell silent.
At that moment, I felt a sudden pull in my chest and instinctively turned toward the northwest.
My wolf spirit howled out in unison with me, "My mate!"
All eight of us, including Laurence, exchanged looks of shock and excitement as we focused on the same direction.
"I can feel it! My mate has appeared!" we all exclaimed together. But soon, the realization struck us, and we shared a stunned silence.
"No!" Laurence roared, his face twisting with urgency. "I feel the pulse of my bloodline! There's blood of mine in the northwest! She's weak! Find her now!"
Without needing another word, the eight of us shifted into our wolf forms, charging toward the northwest with unmatched speed.
Frank's POV:
Every time the bone whip lashed against Susan's skin, a twisted sense of satisfaction stirred within me.
The silver nails embedded in the whip prevented the werewolf from healing, while the silver poison slowly ate away at her, forcing her to endure the excruciating pain.
She deserved this.
She had killed my unborn son.
The whipping should have been enough by now, but I couldn't stop. The thrill of watching her suffer, knowing I could tear her apart without anyone stopping me, was intoxicating.
"Enough! The pups are waiting for their meal!" My father's voice finally broke through.
I halted, my breath heavy, my gaze fixed on the bloodied mess in front of me. There was something grotesquely satisfying about it—this macabre display of flesh and blood.
What surprised me, though, was that the Omega still hadn't died.
Hmph, it must be the bloodline.
Despite being an Omega, the Alpha blood that ran through her veins gave her remarkable vitality.
Just the thought that she shared my blood made me sick.
Fifteen years ago, I found her mother—a filthy, weak woman—while hunting in the woods.
Had she not smelled of Alpha pheromones, I wouldn't have given her a second thought.
But after bringing her back, cleaning her up, and realizing she was surprisingly beautiful with a nice figure, I forcibly marked her, hoping she'd bear me an Alpha child.
To my disgust, she gave birth to nothing but an Omega.
If not for the trace of my bloodline in her, I might have doubted she was even mine.
Now, I regretted it. A foolish Alpha female, who'd probably been used by countless lowly Omegas before I found her. Her womb was clearly tainted, which was why she had birthed an Omega.
Disgusting.
"I'll take the first bite!" I shouted to my father.
Once this Omega died, everyone would forget I ever had an Omega bloodline.
My father nodded in approval, and I bared my fangs, ready to rip into her neck.
Just as I was about to strike, I felt a sudden surge of fear. From my Alpha perspective, I saw a new, silver giant wolf rise from her body, its howl filled with defiance. Its commanding gaze was enough to make even me, an Alpha, feel threatened.
"Companion wolf spirit! And it's an Alpha one?!" My father exclaimed in shock.

Chapter 3 — Capable of Bearing Offspring

Frank's POV:
I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it—Susan, this lowly Omega, had somehow given birth to an Alpha-level wolf spirit. The realization hit me with both shock and confusion.
If this wolf spirit truly carried the strength of an Alpha, it meant that Susan had the potential to evolve into an Alpha herself. This was something unprecedented for the Grayclaw Tribe—a chance to have another Alpha in the future.
My father and I hurried toward her, attempting to connect our wolf spirits with hers, but no response came.
"D*mn it!" My father cursed under his breath, kicking Susan roughly. "Her wolf spirit has gone dormant again!"
When a wolf spirit became dormant, it meant it had failed to awaken. It was a sign that Susan, despite everything, remained just a lowly Omega. And that might never change.
"What now? Do we finish her off?" I asked.
My father paused, his mind clearly working through the situation. "No, what we saw earlier was real. She has Alpha potential. This is because of your bloodline," he said, his voice shifting to one of interest.
"I see a new possibility," he continued, his gaze narrowing as he looked at Susan, battered and bloody, with silver poison still seeping through her wounds. But her werewolf body, as strong as it was, wouldn't let her die so easily.
"We'll keep her alive," my father decided, his voice firm and commanding. "She's capable of bearing offspring with Alpha blood!"
None of the pack dared oppose his decision.
This meant Susan's future was sealed: She would become a mere breeding tool for the Grayclaw Tribe, a woman for others to use. Her worth would only be recognized when she could give birth to a child with Alpha blood.
I couldn't deny that I felt conflicted. While I couldn't bring myself to kill the woman responsible for my son's death, I knew I couldn't go against my father's choice now.
"Wolves!" I called out to the pack, gathering their attention. "The Moon Festival feast is over. Everyone head back!"
As for Susan, I abandoned her in the snow, warning the pack not to go near her. Let the cold and poison continue to torment her. At least it was a small form of punishment for her survival.
On my way to comfort Cynthia, who had recently suffered a miscarriage, a sudden, strong sensation pierced my thoughts. I could feel eight powerful presences invading my territory.
"What? Eight Alphas?" Panic and rage surged within me.
Eason's POV:
The heavy claws of my wolf form broke through the door of Grayclaw Tribe like it was nothing, and the eight of us stormed forward, ignoring the tribe's weak attempts at stopping us.
Our mission was clear: find the one with my sister, Jenny's, bloodline—our destined mate.
The Grayclaw Tribe had raised the wolf smoke, signaling trouble for their pack, but I paid it little attention. It was irrelevant.
Grayclaw Tribe was nothing more than a primitive, insignificant group. No warrior within their walls had the courage to stop us.
Such a tribe didn't deserve my respect.
The other brothers shared my sentiments.
We followed the scent trail, eventually arriving at a larger building than the others in Grayclaw. This place was far more opulent, suggesting it belonged to the Alpha.
"She's in there!" Ivan growled under his breath, his breath misting in the cold air.
I wasn't interested in making small talk with the Grayclaw Alpha. Without a word, I swung my massive claw at the door, splintering it open, and rushed inside.
The building opened into a wide courtyard, its ground blanketed in thick snow. But there, in one corner, I saw something that made my heart stop—a patch of snow stained dark red.
The smell of fresh blood hit me hard.
Through the snow, I saw a fragile figure curled up, her face almost hidden. As soon as I laid eyes on her, a sharp pain stabbed at my temples, and my vision blurred, clouded with blood-red afterimages.
She looked just like Jenny did when she was younger!
She was my sister's daughter!
Inside me, my wolf spirit howled, "Our mate!"
Without thinking, I shifted back to my human form and rushed to her side, gathering her up gently. The healing magic granted to me by the Goddess surged through me as I worked desperately to stabilize her.
"It's silver poison!" I muttered fiercely, grinding my teeth. "They used silver poison to torture her. I need to get her to the temple, now!"
