Chapter 1 — Infidelity And Betrayal
Thalia's Point Of View
I stood in front of the full-length mirror, wearing a revealing lingerie set.
A red ribbon wrapped around my chest, and the exposed round breasts seemed to be tempting people to commit a crime.
I took a deep breath, not daring to imagine how excited my husband, Renzo, would be if he saw me like this.
Today marked our third wedding anniversary. Although Renzo was not the destined mate chosen for me by the Moon Goddess, we had once loved each other very much, at least we used to.
My father was the Alpha of the Lunamire Pack, and Renzo was his trusted beta. He was strong, brave, and had protected me during difficult times. That was the reason why I fell for him. When my father stepped down, I elected Renzo to be the Alpha of the entire Lunamire Pack, hoping he could lead the Pack left by my father to glory.
And I had stayed by his side, willingly, as his Luna.
However, after years of marriage, I began to notice the signs. He was falling out of love with me. Most noticeably, our sex life had nearly disappeared.
Following Delta Eva's advice, I decided to open myself up to Renzo on this anniversary night, to reignite the passion between us.
With a hint of sweetness, I arrived at the third floor of the Packhouse. At the end of the corridor stood the Alpha’s bedroom.
Standing at the door, before I could even open it, a sharp and unfamiliar pain struck from my heart.
A terrible thought surfaced in my mind.
I had heard my father talk about it; this was the pain of mate betrayal.
Renzo had cheated.
I didn’t even remember how I opened the door, but the scene that met my eyes would stay with me forever.
My Alpha mate, Renzo, was having sex naked with another woman. They wer having sex, kissing, and touching each other with no shame. Even as I walked in, they didn’t notice.
"No, this can't be! Renzo wouldn't do this to us..." my wolf, Paz, howled in disbelief.
I still remember him during our mating ceremony. Renzo knelt, promising me under the moonlight.
"The destined mate doesn't matter. My love for you transcends fate."
But now, he had broken that promise. He destroyed our love.
"Renzo! Is this your gift for our third anniversary? Having sex with another woman in our bed?" I stormed over and yanked the woman by her hair.
That pretty face, I seemed to have seen it before.
Renzo pushed me away. “Show some respect to her. Donna is the mate the Moon Goddess destined for me.”
He panted heavily, looking at her tenderness right in front of me. His lips couldn't resist kissing hers again. "Thalia, she's the mate I recognized at first sight in the crowd. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist her.”
"And what about me? What am I to you?!" I questioned as I questioned him, losing control.
I had stepped down from the position as Alpha just to be his Luna. Were the past three years of marriage just a joke?
Renzo chuckled, stroking Donna's waist, looking smugly at me. "Of course, you're just a stepping stone for me. If you hadn't stepped down, I wouldn't be the Alpha of Lunamire Pack, and I wouldn’t have met Donna.”
The pain of betrayal tore through my sanity. The man I had loved, my mate, my Alpha, was nothing more than a greedy, selfish liar.
I thought about rejecting him, but my wolf whimpered weakly, "Thalia, we're losing Renzo. Breaking the mate bond will burn our souls. It will kill me."
"Paz, Renzo has betrayed us. If I accept this, it would be betraying myself. I can’t do that. We have to end this.”
Fighting back the tears that threatened to fall, I trembled as I said, "I, Thalia, reject you, Renzo, as my mate!"
Moon Goddess, forgive me. I reject him not out of hate, but because my heart still longs for true love. If that love is no longer pure, I would rather let it go.
Renzo tilted his head to look at me, emotions I couldn't understand flashing in his eyes. "I refuse."
"Why?! You've already found your destined mate! Why won’t you let me go?” I questioned. I couldn't understand. Hadn’t I done enough for him?
What more did he want?
Renzo held the woman in his arms, provocatively looking at me. "Thalia, you better think carefully. Once you cut ties with me, I'll kick you out of Lunamire Pack! A marked female rogue, you will end up a prostitute at the bottom of society.”
"No... You can't!" I was stunned.
The Lunamire Pack was the Pack my father left behind. I was born and raised here. Everyone in the Pack was like family.
He wanted to drive me away from my hometown and family, to become a rogue!
I felt nothing but heartbreak and humiliation.
This was the mate I had chosen. He no longer loved me, yet he wouldn’t give me the freedom I needed. He wanted me to watch him and other female wolves being affectionate every day, to suffer the pain of a dying bond every minute of every day.
Moon Goddess, how did I fall in love with someone like this?
Chapter 2 — Pregnancy
Thalia's Point Of View
The news of Renzo's affair spread throughout the entire Lunamire Pack, and I knew I had become a laughingstock.
Not only that, but the Alpha brought his destined mate, Donna, back to the Pack, and everyone could see exactly what Renzo was planning.
"It looks like Lunamire Pack's Luna is about to change."
I kept hearing the gossip and mocking voices from my fellow pack members through the Mindlink.
They seemed to forget everything I had sacrificed and done for the Pack. They no longer remembered that I was the Alpha's daughter, the original leader of Lunamire.
My hands clenched tightly, trying to suppress my emotions. Today was the Pack’s Alpha meeting. Aside from discussing Donna's presence, there was something even more important on the agenda.
The news of the Dark Lycan planning to attack the Lunamire Pack had already spread within the Pack.
The Lycan, a brutal, legendary king, would leave no one alive in any Pack he decided to attack. Especially in recent years, the Lycan had been growing his power, conquering weaker Packs.
The Pack’s elders were all nervous, discussing with Renzo how to face this threat.
But Renzo appeared indifferent. His eyes filled with Donna, completely ignoring the future of the Lunamire Pack.
Even though pain threatened to break my sanity, for the future of the Pack, I had to make a decision.
"Don't worry, everyone. My father once attempted to form alliances with other Packs, but it never succeeded. Now, I plan to restart the alliance. Only by uniting with other Packs do we have a chance to stop the Lycan."
Once again, it was me who stepped forward to handle the crisis, while Renzo, like a child who never grew up, hid behind me, always expecting me to shield him.
With the current strength of the Lunamire Pack, we were no match for the Lycan. If the Lycan attacked, we would be doomed.
"Thalia, don't be naive! If your father couldn't do it, what makes you think you can? Even if you form alliances, can you guarantee that the allies' armies will come to help Lunamire in time?"
Donna's questioning gaze made everyone look at me.
She came up to me, staring at me with malice. "My father is the Alpha of the powerful Ironclaw Pack, undefeated in battle. If you're willing to step down as Luna, I can ask him to help Lunamire.”
I found it ridiculous. "Donna, if alliances are unreliable, can your father be trusted?"
"Of course he can. My father never gives up on his family bloodline," Donna replied, placing her hand gently on her abdomen and rubbing it in slow circles. "Because... I'm pregnant with Renzo's child."
Upon hearing this news, a sharp pain shot through my body again.
My wolf, Paz, roared inside me, and I struggled to breathe, staring at Renzo in disbelief.
But from Renzo's eyes, I saw joy.
In front of me, Renzo picked up Donna and spun her around in place. "Donna, you're incredible. We’re finally going to have a child!”
In three years of marriage, I had never seen Renzo so happy. But his happiness was built on my heartbreak.
Renzo turned to me. “Thalia, I don’t need you anymore. I want to mark Donna.”
"You should know, an Alpha can only have one Luna."
I even laughed. "Renzo, so you agree to accept my rejection now and let me leave?"
"Of course not. Thalia, you are no longer Luna, but I’ll let you be Donna’s assistant. Help her manage the Pack’s affairs. You love Lunamire, don't you? I'm allowing you to continue contributing to the Pack. You should thank me for not kicking you out of your hometown."
Renzo's response was shameless and absurd to the extreme.
I didn’t hesitate. "I disagree."
Renzo lost his patience. He grabbed my neck. "You don't have the right to refuse!"
I was an Alpha wolf, originally fully capable of resisting Renzo.
But his betrayal weakened my strength, and the physical pain made it impossible for me to resist in time.
The choking feeling made me keep struggling. I looked to the elders in the Pack for help. They watched me grow up. Wasn’t there anyone who would speak for me?
Someone spoke up.
"Luna, you and the Alpha were never destined mates. It’s time to end this mistake.”
"The Alpha of Lunamire Pack needs a strong successor. Donna is pregnant with the Alpha's child. You wouldn’t want his child born outside the Pack, would you?”
"We need Donna's father's help, Luna. You shouldn’t put the Pack’s stability at risk over personal emotions.”
They were all right.
But I still felt cold.
Seeing my hesitation, an elder in the Pack seemed impatient. "Thalia, I advise you to be sensible. Give up the Luna position.”
“Yeah, you’ve been with the Alpha for years and never got pregnant. But Donna did. She’s the future of this Pack. What are you?”
When the elder said this, other members of the pack echoed one after another.
The crowd reached a boiling point, shouting for me to get out of the pack.
“Get out of the Pack! Get out! Get out!”
Seeing my fellow tribesmen avoiding me and joyfully welcoming the new Luna, I knew I had been completely betrayed and abandoned by them.
These were the people who had watched me grow up, yet at that moment, not a single one stood by my side.
They chose Donna. They chose protection from a stronger Pack.
Renzo let go of my hand, and I was thrown to the ground, gasping for air.
"Give me some time to think it over." I didn't make a scene. I let them all leave.
The crowd dispersed, but my friend Delta Eva didn't go. She stood nearby looking at me with pity, and only rushed to my side once everyone else had gone.
The excruciating pain tore at my soul, making me dizzy. The betrayal made me wish I were dead.
"I'm sorry, Thalia. It’s my fault for being weak and not daring to go against the elders' decision.” Her voice trembled, and her tears fell on my face.
"Drink this potion. It blocks the mate bond. You’ll feel better," Delta Eva said as she took out a small bottle of potion and helped me drink it.
I had heard of this potion. Not only could it block the harm caused by the mate bond, but it could also numb my senses.
Drinking it would take the pain away, but at the same time, my connection to my true mate would also disappear.
While the potion could stop the pain, it couldn't prevent the real harm. It meant that every time Renzo made love to Donna, I would still be hurt. My wolf power would weaken. The potion would only numb the sensation, not stop the scars from forming.
Those invisible scars would continue to remind me that my mate had betrayed me.
The pain made me want to die. I no longer cared about anything else. I drank the potion in one gulp.
Soon, it took effect. The physical pain gradually disappeared, but I could see the scars appearing on my arms. I knew then that the sadness in my heart remained.
"Thank you, Eva."
At this moment, only she was by my side, only she cared about my life and death.
After calming down, I couldn't help but worry about the safety of the Pack.
The Lycans were coming. The safety of Lunamire was at stake. My mate had betrayed me. My people had abandoned me.
What should I do to ensure the safety of the Lunamire Pack?
Would I have to give up my position as Luna and leave my home, just to ensure my people’s safety?
In the bar, I poured drink after drink for myself.
My mind was filled with the image of Renzo betraying me. How could he cheat on me so shamelessly?
In his eyes, I was so worthless. But Renzo, you should know, other men still find me desirable.
Soon, I was drunk and lost my reason. I stood up to leave, but stumbled into the arms of a man.
He was a strong and tall man, even taller than me by at least two heads. I wasn’t short, but he was easily over six feet.
Thanks to good exercise. His chest muscles were solid and attractive, filling out his black shirt nicely.
He had slightly curly hair, exuding a wild and unrestrained aura. His features were noble, with a hint of playfulness in his sharp eyes and eyebrows. His straight nose perfectly complemented his overly refined and handsome face.
His lips curled into a playful smirk.
At first glance, he gave me a sense of danger and mystery, yet incredibly powerful and sexy.
I looked up and met his piercing emerald eyes.
His deep voice sounded in my ear. "You smell very sad."
His fresh scent was dizzying. And in that moment, a twisted sense of revenge grew inside me.
Why should Renzo be able to betray while I stay faithful?
He hurt me. I should return the favor, twice over.
"You should taste it yourself. Maybe you'll discover something else."
My fingertips rubbed against the man's cool lips, and I heard my inner voice, broken but sexy.
I could feel the heat rushing through my body. I couldn’t tell whether it was from the alcohol… or something else.
In just a few seconds of eye contact, everything began to spiral out of control.
Chapter 3 — Hunting
Thalia's Point Of View
When his slightly cool, thin lips touched mine, a strange, cold scent came with them. His tongue entered my mouth, sucking on mine, tightly entwined. I couldn't breathe as he kissed me; every attempt to push him away only made the kiss more intense. He kissed forcefully, holding my wrist with one hand, making it impossible to push him off.
He made me straddle his waist, lifting my body. As he carried me up the stairs, I was afraid of falling, so I clung to his neck.
I could feel his erection pressing against me, hard and urgent.
He kissed my chest, then tilted his head to kiss my chin before landing on my lips.
As hurried footsteps approached, he pinned me down on the bed, unbuttoning his black silk shirt to reveal a long scar on his waist.
I kissed his scar, which made him show even more intense affection.
He caressed my body, quickly stirring a wet heat between my legs.
I didn’t remember how he got me into the room, but without exchanging more words, we kissed and touched each other.
Soon, our clothes were gone.
"Give it to me," I told him.
With a hint of moisture on his lips, he raised his head from between my legs and lightly licked his lips. Like a hungry beast, he pounced on me, biting my earlobe and whispering, “Delighted to comply.”
I let myself go. I knew I did.
As we embraced each other naked, his kisses moved down to my neck. My legs wrapped around his strong waist, longing for him to possess me fiercely. But suddenly, he stopped moving.
I licked my dry lips, then pushed him down again and sat on his waist. "Why won't you give it to me?"
He looked at me with a complicated expression, then pulled me down and kissed me deeply.
Later, I didn't even know how I fell asleep.
When I woke up in the morning, he was no longer in the room. Only the lingering cold scent reminded me that I had been with a man the night before.
My wolf, Paz, told me that we didn't go all the way.
But we had done everything intimate except that one final step.
I didn’t dare to think about it. How could he resist touching me? Could it be... because I wasn’t attractive enough?
His actions made me feel a little sad, and I returned to the packhouse with a heavy heart.
Renzo rushed out, his face full of anger, and dragged me forcefully into the room.
"What are you doing! Let me go!" I struggled, but he was too strong for me to break free.
"You filthy whore, how dare you betray me! Am I not enough for you? You dare to go find other men outside?!" Renzo shoved me roughly onto the bed.
He climbed onto the bed, and when he saw me trying to escape, he grabbed my ankle, pressed his body down on my struggling lower half, and lifted my leg, placing it on his shoulder, a move meant to make his intrusion easier.
He actually wanted to rape me.
A wave of nausea rose inside me.
"Renzo, why can you have sex with other women, but I can't?" I asked, feeling it was completely unfair.
"Because I am the Alpha. I do whatever I want!" he said fiercely, tearing off my clothes.
I kicked at him desperately, my foot hitting him in the crotch. The pain made him kneel on the bed. I covered myself with a blanket. "Renzo, listen! Once the alliance is formed and Lunamire Pack safely passes this crisis, I will leave here and never appear in front of you and Donna again."
I admitted it. I could not accept the kind of life Renzo described.
I couldn’t bear to watch the man I loved spoil other women every day, nor could I take the pain that reached into the depths of my soul.
It was too much torture for me.
"Besides me, which Pack would want Luna abandoned by her Alpha? You know better than anyone what your fate will be. Do you really want to break ties with me?"
I answered firmly, "Yes."
I had already considered the consequences Renzo mentioned.
But no matter what the future held, I couldn’t stay.
Renzo sneered at me. "Well, I hope you don’t regret it."
"I have no regrets."
The only one who will regret it is you, Renzo.
After making this decision, I went to see Donna. Facing her sarcasm and mockery, I stayed silent and handed over all the pack's information to her.
Donna flipped through the files and sighed.
"You're really pitiful. You can’t have children, and you couldn’t even keep your Luna position. Who knows which Pack's sex slave you’ll end up as? Thalia, maybe if you kneel down and beg me, I’ll be kind enough, as the new Luna, to give you a way out.”
Her mocking words kept ringing in my ears, but I felt incredibly calm inside.
I said, "The future of the Lunamire Pack is in your hands now. I hope you can lead the Pack to strength and glory.”
Even though it hurt like hell, that was my final blessing I could give, not to Donna, but to my Pack.
Everything I had was here, but after today, none of it would belong to me anymore.
Tomorrow morning, I will leave the Lunamire Pack.
It was my last night there. Apart from my friend Eva, who couldn't bear to see me go, the elders in the Pack were all immersed in the news of Donna's pregnancy and her father's willingness to send troops to protect them. No one paid attention to me.
I felt like an outsider, silently watching everything unfold.
Soon enough.
The next morning arrived.
Dark clouds loomed in the sky, and a sense of foreboding washed over me.
"Oh no! The Lycan army is coming!" a tribesman shouted, throwing the entire Lunamire Pack into chaos.
The Dark Lycan army approached with terrifying speed, with even the wind carrying the scent of blood.
The leading Lycan soldiers were unstoppable, charging into the Pack and viciously attacking every Lunamire werewolf they encountered.
Blood sprayed from my tribesmen. Many didn’t even have time to scream before they died.
Before long, the Lycan army had broken through the Pack’s defenses. The warriors at the Lunamire border couldn't resist their attacks.
In a panic, I turned to Donna, grabbed her collar, and demanded, "You said your father would send troops to support us, where are they? Why haven't they arrived?"
To my shock, Donna trembled and hid behind Renzo, her face pale with fear as she retorted, "Are you kidding me? Everyone knows how strong the Dark Lycans are! Who could beat them? I won’t let my father come here just to die!”
"You're lying to me!" I screamed, grabbing her by the neck. “Do you know what you're doing? You’ve gambled with the lives of the entire Lunamire Pack!”
Donna clutched her stomach, pushed me away, and said viciously, "The Lunamire Pack is doomed anyway. I only promised to take Renzo with me.”
"Renzo! You're the Alpha of the Pack. How can you abandon your people?” I turned to him as he stood, struggling with the situation.
"What does it have to do with me?" Renzo replied coldly. “They’re your people. Your family, Thalia. They always have been.”
