Chapter 1 — Leaving The Alpha

RHIANNON’S POV
“Lock the door.”
Derek didn’t look at me when he said it, yet the quiet authority in his voice made my wolf stir instantly. Even standing still, Alpha Derek Stormhill carried the kind of dominance that bent the room around him.
My Alpha.
My mate.
I slid the bolt into place.
When he turned, moonlight caught his eyes, turning the blue into something glowing, heated, hungry.
“Come here, Rhiannon.”
The growl vibrated straight through my bones. My wolf surged forward before I could restrain her.
He wore almost nothing — just a thin strip of fabric low on his hips that did absolutely nothing to hide how ready he already was.
For me.
His scent wrapped around me the moment I stepped close. Earth. Smoke. Power. Home.
I loved him.
To the Goddess, I really did.
I had waited five years for this. For this moment… and I knew even the Goddess was on my side.
His gaze dropped over my body and darkened. Then his hands followed.
Heat slammed through me when he pulled me against him, his hardness pressing hot into my stomach. A breath later he lifted me easily, laying me on the bed as my legs locked instinctively around his waist.
A communicator started ringing somewhere.
He ignored it.
His mouth moved down my throat, hands roaming, body pressing closer until I arched shamelessly into him. He shifted, positioning himself—
The communicator rang again.
He growled.
“Derek…” I breathed, gripping his shoulders. “Answer first.”
His jaw flexed. The sound kept ringing.
With a sharp exhale and a muttered curse, he finally pulled away.
Cold air hit my skin.
He dragged the communicator out and activated it, blue rune-light spreading faintly under his arm.
“You ungrateful son of the moon!” Marcus’s voice burst through. “How could you be selfish enough to pull something like that?”
A small breath almost escaped me despite the tension, because Marcus yelling at Derek had always been part of their strange friendship.
“Relax,” Derek answered in Wolfrik.
The ancient tongue slid easily from his mouth — the language only five percent of Alpha wolves understood. Something an Omega like me should never have understood.
But I learned.
Years of secret study. All so one day I could stand before him… and confess properly. Maybe tonight would be that night.
“Relax?” Marcus snapped back in disbelief. “You MARKED Gabi Fletcher?! After she rejected you five years ago for that Crimson-fang brute?! Have you completely shed your furs, Derek?!”
My brows knitted and I blinked in confusion.
My eyes moved toward Derek automatically, searching his face for irritation, for denial, for anything that would prove Marcus had misunderstood.
Instead, he stood perfectly still. That was when something else hit me.
His scent. It had changed.
“Her wolf essence is collapsing,” Derek said calmly. “My mark is the only one strong enough to stabilize her.”
“What in the seven hell-howls are you saying?!” Marcus barked. “Why would you care if she fades?!”
My fingers tightened slowly into the sheet beneath me.
“She’s Moonshadow’s Beta. It’s her last request.” Derek continued. “And I’m responsible for her condition.”
I swallowed.
Inside me, my wolf curled low and my blood was already brewing.
Had I… really understood Wolfrik correctly?
“And Rhiannon?” Marcus demanded. “The Omega — no, the woman who’s loved you as a bonded mate for five years. The one who nursed you after the Blood Trial almost took your last breath. The one who stayed when Gabi humiliated you before every pack on the continent.”
Each word struck like claws.
“Heck, Derek — Rhiannon helped you build your territory from ash. You promised she’d stand beside you as Luna. Not rot in the shadows like some spare mate! Not your mistress in waiting!”
My vision burned.
“She won’t find out,” Derek answered flatly. “The bond with Gabi is temporary. When this is finished, I’ll still claim Rhiannon publicly as Luna.”
Silence.
Then Marcus spoke again, low. Dangerous.
“If an Alpha like you thinks like this, I wonder how far you would go without Rhiannon by your side.”
“That’s enough!” Derek growled in annoyance. “What is done is done. Even the Goddess didn't reject it.”
Everything inside me went cold.
The rune-light snapped off.
My body trembled and my heart pounded in my head as my wolf whimpered in pain inside me. All of it twisting together until I could barely breathe.
He marked Gabi!
“What’s the problem?” he asked, softer now. “Are you feeling sick?”
I wrapped the covers around my body, feeling my skin pale, my body trembling.
He frowned, leaning closer to feel my forehead. “Do you need the pack healer?”
I needed to think because I couldn't believe what I had just heard. How could he do this to me and still look soo worried and innocent?
PRETENSE.
That disgusting word burned inside my skull. I pushed his hand away. “I can take care of myself.”
This time, his communicator dinged again.
GABI: Derek… It’s happening again. I can’t control it. I need your scent. I need you.
He glanced down, expression unreadable.
Something clawed up my chest. “Derek—” I breathed.
“Rogues were caught at the border,” he rushed, standing up in a blink of an eye and wearing his trousers.
Seconds later, the door shut behind him.
I laid frozen, the room suddenly empty. The Moonlight fell across the floor, cold and indifferent.
Only after he was gone did I let myself breathe—and let the tears fall.
How could he look at me with love… while carrying another woman’s mating scent?
But it wasn't just any woman. It just had to be Gabi Fletcher. The real daughter to the Alpha of the Moonshadow pack.
I was once their daughter too.
‘Once’ because I was switched at birth and taken in by the Alpha of the Moonshadow pack, James Fletcher. I was loved and treated like a princess till I turned eighteen and their real daughter appeared.
I thought I would finally get a sister. A partner to share love with, instead I got the devil on heels and a whip.
Each day for a year they always came up with different torture tactics. Then one day, I died.
Well, almost.
I never knew how long I lay there near the border, half-dead, blood drying into the dirt while scavengers circled.
All I knew was that when I opened my eyes again…
Derek was there.
Not yet the feared Alpha he is now — just a rising one with ambition and sharp eyes.
He bought my freedom. Protected me. Gave me purpose.
I had devoted everything I was to him. My heart, my soul and even my body.
I even lost something precious to me.
A part of me I could never get back. A part of me no one would dare to trade. A part of me that made me… me.
I lost it.
Just to save him from the devil's curse after the Blood Trial, I made a deal with him.
The Devil’s Finger.
Just to make sure he doesn't die. I stayed, built his pack and vision while he was still recovering— till he eventually became the most feared and respected Alpha in the whole of the west side.
I did all that, just for him because I loved him.
He promised that on our fifth year anniversary, he would claim me as his Luna. He would marry me.
And now… he was bonded to Gabi? My tormentor?
So, I'm nothing but the other woman.
His ‘Mistress in waiting’ as Marcus had called it.
I swallowed back my sobs. Wiping my face, I went to Opal's room. Our maid. My only friend since I moved here.
“I'm going to accept the offer.” I said firmly as I barged in then released a shaky breath. “I'm done with the Nightshade pack.”

Chapter 2 — Enjoy My Dump

RHIANNON’S POV
“Are you… serious, my lady?”
Opal’s voice trembled somewhere between disbelief and fragile hope, as though the wrong answer might shatter something sacred, and for a moment I simply watched her instead of replying, noticing how tightly her fingers were clasped in front of her apron.
“Yes,” I said quietly. “I am.”
The breath that left her sounded almost like a sob.
“Thank the goddess… finally,” she whispered, pressing a hand to her chest as if steadying her own racing heart. “Forgive me, my lady, but I had begun to think you would remain here forever… letting all that brilliance of yours rot in Moonshadow’s shadow while everyone else reaped the glory of everything you built.”
Her words should have stung, yet strangely they did not. They only settled into the hollow place inside me that had already begun accepting truths I had avoided for years.
Opal wasn't even holding back anymore. It seemed like she was… venting all the frustration on my behalf.
“You were never meant to stay hidden in this house, waiting for scraps of affection,” she continued, her voice thick with emotion. “Your weapons alone made the pack feared across territories. Every Alpha knows your craft, it is long overdue you value yourself… and your gift… more than this place ever has.”
For a long moment I said nothing, because there was nothing left to defend.
No illusions left to protect.
Only exhaustion.
“Thank you, Opal,” I murmured at last, soft but sincere. “Now… please start preparing quietly for my departure.”
She nodded eagerly, already turning toward the door before hesitating.
“My lady… does Alpha Derek know?”
The question hung in the air like the final thread tying me to this house.
“Not yet,” I answered. “Just keep this between us for now.”
Understanding flickered in her eyes. She bowed once and left without another word.
The guild smelled the same as it always had — ink, iron seals, blood, and quiet ambition. Wolves waiting in line for a hunt to catch — yet walking into it today felt like stepping into an entirely new life.
The clerk reviewed my request, stamped three different forms, then informed me in a bored, practiced tone that finalisation would take at least a week, perhaps longer depending on council approval.
A week.
Seven days left inside a life that had already ended. I could have used Derek’s name for this to get the work done in a heartbeat.
But the pass needs to be gotten discretely.
I thanked him, took my pass, and returned home with the strange, floating numbness of someone moving through the ruins of their own story.
Packing began slowly.
Clothes first. Tools next. Personal notes. Weapon sketches. Enchanted schematics carefully wrapped in protective cloth.
I went into Derek's private study one last time to check if I had any sketches or crystals laying around. But I stopped at something.
A painting.
For a second I almost smiled when I saw the painting, because it was the one taken a week after Derek recovered, the first time he’d stood properly without the healer hovering over him, and I remembered how proud he’d looked and how stupidly happy I’d been just standing beside him.
Then something started itching at the back of my mind.
Not a thought exactly. Just… wrong.
I stepped closer, squinting a little, tilting my head, trying to understand why the feeling wouldn’t leave, and my fingers actually lifted toward the canvas before my brain caught up.
Wait.
My hand stopped halfway.
Because that wasn’t —
I leaned in closer.
My heart suddenly dropped. That wasn’t my face.
No.
It was.
But at the same time, it wasn’t.
The body was mine. I knew that dress, knew the way my hair fell over my shoulder. But the face…
My stomach dropped so hard I actually grabbed the frame to steady myself.
My fingers started shaking.
HE PAINTED HER FACE ON MY BODY!
I only noticed because of the initials tucked into the corner.
My wolf made this low, wounded sound somewhere deep in my ribs, the kind she only makes when something is truly, irreversibly wrong, and suddenly every memory I had of standing beside him felt crooked, like I’d been looking at our life through glass that wasn’t straight.
Busy.
That’s what I’d been.
A distraction while she was gone.
A body to fill the space where Gabi should have been.
Five years.
Five years of thinking he chose me, and all along he’d just been… waiting her out.
A knock sounded.
Before I could answer, Opal entered quietly, holding sealed letters and a small package.
“My lady… this arrived.”
The moment I saw the crest stamped into the wax, cold dread slid down my spine.
Moonshadow Pack.
Gabi Fletcher.
I opened it.
Even before finishing the first line, I could practically hear her voice dripping with mockery:
“You have twenty-four hours to vacate that house. I am now the Luna of Nightshade pack. If you refuse, I promise the rest of your miserable life will be filled with much regret than it already is. Remember you still owe me seventeen years of torture.”
After reading I opened the package… then wished I hadn’t.
Inside were bundles of Derek’s handwritten messages addressed to her, pieces of his clothing still heavy with his scent, and worst of all, carefully wrapped like a sacred relic was a lock of his fur.
Among wolves, there was no symbol more final.
The traditional exchange.
The unmistakable sealing of a bond.
They had made it official.
Something inside me didn’t shatter.
It just… went quiet.
Like a forge going cold.
I folded everything back slowly, set it down, pulled paper toward me, and for a long second the quill just hovered because honestly what do you even say to the woman who just stole the life you thought was yours?
In the end I only wrote one line:
ENJOY MY DUMP TO THE FULLEST.
Morning came with unwanted warmth sliding across my shoulder. I jerked away instantly, irritation burning through my veins before my eyes were even fully open.
“The rogue interrogation ran late,” Derek murmured, voice rough with sleep, like that explained everything, like time with me was the only thing he regretted missing.
I said nothing.
If I opened my mouth, something ugly might fall out.
He frowned slightly, glancing around the room.
“…Why does the house feel empty? And cold.”
“Yearly cleanup,” I said.
My voice sounded normal.
He watched me another second like he almost didn’t believe it, then the tension left his shoulders and he leaned closer again, softer this time.
“I have a surprise for you tomorrow.”
My eyes dropped to the sheets so he wouldn’t see what crossed my face.
What else would be more surprising than your legal wife arriving to take her place beside you?
“We’re expanding the weapon trade to packs in other regions,” he continued. “I want you beside me when we announce it. Dabria, The Maker of Ruin, should be public.”
That actually made me look up.
That was me.
Five years of designs. Five years of sleepless nights. Five years of forging, enchanting, blacksmithing until my hands were scarred and Moonshadow became the pack everyone feared facing.
He had never publicly credited me.
Never.
And now suddenly— he wanted me present?
A bitter, foolish part of me wondered if this was his apology.
At least the world would know the weapons were mine. At least I would still have one thing left that was truly my own.
I was just starting to nod when—
Something shifted.
His entire presence hardened, irritation cutting sharply through the air as his hand reached toward the bedside table and picked up an envelope I had not noticed earlier.
When he turned back toward me, his eyes had darkened completely.
“Rhiannon,” he said slowly, the quiet tension in his voice far more dangerous than any shout, “why are you receiving letters… with another pack’s crest?”

Chapter 3 — The Devil's Finger

RHIANNON’S POV
My stomach dropped the second I saw the crest.
The Devil's Finger.
Five years and I still felt the phantom ache where he’d carved that piece of my soul out of me, like the scar remembered before the rest of my body did, like something inside me already knew this wasn’t coincidence, this was a hand reaching back into my life again.
Does he want the rest now?
Before Derek could even ask another question, I moved. I grabbed the letter from his hand and tossed it inside the fireplace.
“It’s nothing,” I rushed. “Just… testing a design. Secret batch. Something for another collection. Not ready.”
“Alright,” Derek muttered.
That should’ve made me feel relieved.
Instead irritation scraped under my skin while the paper shriveled into ash because now I’d never know what was inside, never know what the Devil’s Finger wanted, never know if the debt I thought I buried had just come back breathing.
And then—
Derek stepped closer.
Too close.
His hand slid to my waist like always, familiar, claiming. I jerked back, heat crawling up my spine.
Last night. The night he had Gabi. His wife. His Luna. Right here. And now he was close to me like nothing had changed.
What would he do if he knew I was leaving? What would he do if he saw the fire burning behind my eyes?
Then his pocket vibrated. He froze. Clicked his tongue.
“Stay,” he said absently, already turning toward the door.
Then he left.
Just like that.
I didn’t need to guess who called him.
I could feel him being summoned. Could hear it, the pull, the rune connecting him to the source.
The moment the door shut, I looked toward the rune panel on the wall.
For five years I’d stayed small.
Quiet.
Never asked for anything except my forge and my rooms. Never pushed to attend councils. Never tried to sit beside him at public feasts. When he suggested I socialize, build alliances, connect my communicator to the wider network, I ignored it.
I had refused every link except to him. Even though he gave me one, I never used it.
I preferred letters. Something I could hold. Something that smelled like him. That I could read whenever I wanted.
Not today.
Today I wanted to hear.
Fingers trembling, I connected to his communicator. Just a little tweak, a tiny push on my runes, which was very easy since we were sharing the same wolf and suddenly I was inside their conversation.
—and their voices poured straight into the room.
“…did you get rid of the leech you complained about?”
Gabi. Laughing. Breezy. Her voice like acid on my nerves.
Derek chuckled softly. “Handled.”
My teeth clenched.
Leech.
Of course they meant me.
Event tomorrow. She couldn’t wait. Public. Big reveal. She’s going to shine. She’s going to take it all.
I was already reaching to cut the link.
Then—
“…and congratulations on the merger rumor,” Gabi added brightly. “They say you’re planning a second reveal tomorrow too?”
My hand froze midair.
Pause.
Derek exhaled through his nose. “There’ll be an announcement. Rest for now.”
“Oh how can I rest,” she laughed, breathy, almost giddy, “when I might finally get my dream? You know I don’t have much time left… I was just hoping… maybe… you could reveal me as Dabria. The Maker of Ruin.”
Everything inside me stopped.
Derek blinked. “What?”
“My love,” she said lightly. “Just let me take the credit for one night. As your Luna I need something that makes the pack fear me too. What’s better than being the legendary forger? Please… let me be Dabria. Before I die, let me be remembered as her and not the Luna who died after her coronation.”
My vision tunneled.
Dabria wasn’t a dress you borrow.
It wasn’t a title someone gifts you because you pout sweetly enough.
That name was molten metal and split skin and sleepless winters and blood burned into forge-stone.
That name was mine.
Every weapon Nightshade used to crush rival packs. Every enchanted blade. Claw.
Every ruin had my wolf in it. It had my essence. And now, he wants to hand it over to Gabi?
And then Derek said, calm as breathing—
“Alright. Anything you want. Tomorrow… you’ll be Dabria.”
Gabi squealed.
I think something inside my chest actually tore.
I cut the connection.
Silence slammed back into the room.
For a second I just stood there, staring at nothing, because apparently five years of loyalty could be erased in one polite conversation between husband and wife.
My body moved before my mind did.
I rushed to my packed luggage, roamed through old letters till I found it. My first letter to the Devil’s Finger. I copied the rune and waited for him to connect.
When he connected, I didn’t let him speak first.
“It’s Rhiannon Fletcher. I need your help again.”
A low chuckle slid through the line. Venomous. Amused. Dangerous.
“…Is this for your flea-bitten Alpha again? What will you carve off this time for the man who crowned another Luna?”
I almost gasped at just how fast the news travelled. The words hit exactly where they were meant to.
Still, I swallowed.
“No. Not for him.”
Pause.
“You understand what it means to come to me twice?” he murmured. “Second bargains cost more.”
“I’m ready,” I said. “Anything. Everything. I’ll give it all.”
Silence stretched so long my heart started pounding in my ears.
Then—
“Deal,” he said. “Back out and I’ll take everything.”
The line died.
I shoved the rune away just as the door opened.
Derek stepped in, expression neutral, almost careful. “The event’s postponed,” he said. “Don’t worry about anything. Just go to the workshop and finish your current designs.”
Of course. Keep me chained to the forge while they steal everything I built. While they wait to strut it on stage like it’s theirs.
No. No way.
Not Dabria. Not what I bled for, what I built with my hands, my blood, my fire.
Over. My. Dead. Body.
Every last inch of me.
I’ll burn everything first. Every weapon, every design, every mark. They won’t touch it. Not a trace.
I’d rather die in the ashes of my own work than watch some spoiled brat parade it as hers.
The next day I dressed quickly, and walked toward the sacred hall where Elders and Alphas gathered.
My eyes immediately found them. Gabi glowing beside Derek while he introduced her like the moon itself had descended just to bless his throne.
That should have been me. That should have been my place beside him. And for a moment, a panicked, horrifying thought slammed into me:
Had it ever been mine at all?
Just as I was reaching the center of the hall, Derek’s eyes snapped to mine, and I felt his wolf hit mine like a hammer.
Rage.
He crossed the hall in seconds, grabbed my wrist hard enough to bruise, dragged me close, breath hot and furious against my ear—
“What the hell are you doing here?” His wolf shifted, tense and rigid, angry.
