Chapter 1 — Canceled the Mating Ceremony
Stella Preston's POV:
I was trying on my wedding gown when my phone pinged with a text, "Stella! Your intended mate Kael took that b!tch Lydia to the obstetrics and gynecology department!"
In seven days, I was supposed to be bonded to Kael Stevens, the Alpha of Creekrock Pack, in the most sacred mating ceremony of our kind.
We were meant to finalize the gown together, but he'd bailed, claiming he had an Alpha council meeting.
Turns out, the "meeting" was code for cheating.
The OB/GYN? He'd knocked her up already!
Screw this ceremony! No need to plan it!
I ripped the gown off without hesitation, letting the fabric crumple to the floor.
In the next breath, white fur burst across my skin, fangs sharpened, and I shifted into a massive white wolf.
Under the moonlight, the temp mark Kael gave me on my neck stung. I didn't care about the pain—I just followed his Alpha scent right to him.
Ten minutes later, I reached his office—his usual workspace.
As soon as I stepped into his territory, I reined in my powerful wolf-form pheromones, slipping back into the docile Omega facade he knew.
Three years ago, a truck explosion had shattered my wolf spirit, forcing me to regress to an Omega. I just got my real rank back with training lately.
I'd planned to tell my mate the good news at our mating ceremony.
Now? No point.
I tapped lightly on the half-open door and stepped in.
He was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, on a call. Moonlight made his sharp, handsome face stand out. The Moon Goddess favored him greatly, blessing him with an extraordinary appearance rarely seen across the entire Werewolf Federation.
But no matter how handsome he was, it could never cover up his disgusting wolf spirit!
Noticing me, Kael rushed through the call. "Don't forget your meds. Gonna hang up now."
He hung up and strode to the couch, his gentle tone vanishing, replaced by icy indifference.
"Come here," he ordered, like he always did.
I lifted my chin, locking eyes with his cold gaze.
Even though we were about to become true mates for real, he still didn't show me an ounce of respect.
I walked over slowly, but instead of settling softly beside him as I always had, I plopped down across from him.
Kael blinked in surprise, and I smelled his pheromones turn even frostier.
Click—he flicked a lighter, and the stench of gasoline-scented cigar smoke filled the air.
Does he really not know we hate cigar smoke? My wolf growled.
But Kael didn't care. He lit up and took a drag. "Lydia's back. We need to put off the mating ceremony."
"What do you mean?"
Because Lydia Sanders was back, our ceremony had to be put off?
"She's sick—seriously sick. She needs me," he said, pulling a folder from the table.
"It's an acceptance letter to St. Peter's Elite Wolf Academy. Go study abroad for a while."
That condescending tone, like he was doing me a favor.
I glanced at the folder but didn't reach for it.
"Send me abroad? Just to make space for your lover?"
Ridiculous! Did he really think I'd swallow this garbage?
Kael's jaw tightened. "This is the school you've always wanted—"
"Kael!" I cut him off.
I snatched the envelope from his hand and tore it to shreds, letting the pieces rain down on his office.
The last little piece stuck to my finger. I flicked it right at his face.
"You—!" His Alpha aura slammed into me.
He thought I'd crumple to the floor in agony, suppressed by his aura—just like every other Omega.
But I didn't flinch. Not even a little.
I stared him down, each word sharp as a claw. "Why bother? Cancel the whole damn thing!"
How dare he still want to hold our mating ceremony after cheating on me?
Who did he think he was?
Get lost!
Chapter 2 — I Was Done!
Stella's POV:
Kael's eyes widened, like he never thought his gentle, obedient Omega would dare talk to him like this.
After all, I was just a broken-spirited Omega, and he was a noble Alpha. To become his Luna should've been the greatest honor of my life—at least, that's what he thought. I was supposed to look the other way while he kept his other woman.
Bullshit.
"Cut the drama—I know you're just throwing a fit," he snapped, his tone impatient. "Lydia's sick. Once she's better, she'll leave again. Then I'll give you the grandest mating ceremony."
Did he really think I couldn't bear to leave him?
My past docility must've warped his sense of reality.
I scoffed, tearing off his hypocritical mask. "Sick? Or pregnant?"
Kael's face blanched. "What do you know?"
I didn't answer directly. "You walked around the hospital with her like it was no big deal, and of all places, it had to be the OB-GYN. And now you're talking about a 'grand ceremony'? Don't you find that ironic?"
We were getting mated in a week. He'd been at the OB-GYN with another woman and then had the nerve to debate how big our ceremony would be?
Had he no shame?
Kael gritted his teeth, suppressing his anger. "She's not pregnant. She's ill."
"Ill enough that you had to accompany her to the hospital?" I shot back. "What even are you two?"
He was still my unmarked mate, and he knocked up another woman. Did he take me for an idiot?
Kael had no reply. His Alpha pheromones flared, a brute's attempt to cow me into submission.
But I wasn't about to stand there and let his rage drown me.
I turned toward the door.
"Since you guys took in an exiled werewolf, she might as well keep suffering the punishment she deserves," I said over my shoulder.
If Lydia hadn't chosen exile back then, I would've locked her in the Werewolf Prison myself.
Kael's jaw tightened. "Leave her alone!"
I laughed coldly, my hand on the doorknob. "What? Already feeling bad for her now? I haven't even started."
Kael snarled, "You really dare cancel the mating ceremony? You're just an Omega. Without me, do you think Stonecave Pack will take you back?"
Stonecave Pack—my birth Alpha clan, and the same pack that raised Lydia.
Years ago, Lydia's mom was an Omega servant at the Alpha Manor, working for my mother—the Luna of Stonecave Pack.
They'd gotten pregnant at the same time.
Trapped in poverty, Lydia's mom had dreamed of her child growing up in luxury. So after giving birth at the hospital, she swapped the babies.
But she wasn't some nice guy. She'd dumped me on the streets instead of raising me.
She'd stayed on as a servant, watching her real daughter live in wealth, clinging to her side all those years.
It wasn't until three years ago—when Lydia failed her shifting and was taken to the pack's stone circle for treatment—that she was discovered to have no Alpha blood.
The big secret was exposed.
Then my parents began a frantic search for their real daughter.
That's when they'd found me.
But blood didn't mean shit. They'd doted on Lydia, the girl they'd raised, while letting me get bullied relentlessly.
Kael was right—I couldn't go back to Stonecave Pack. I'd never had a place there.
But who cared?
They were my blood, yet they'd chosen an outsider over me.
So be it. I didn't need them.
Kael noticed my silence and stepped forward, switching to a soft tone as he grabbed my hand. "Once she's better, I'll send her away. Please?"
Please my ass.
I'd never accept a cheating mate.
I glared at him, yanking my hand free.
Fvck this. I was done!
Chapter 3 — Lydia Faked Injury
Stella's POV:
I yanked my hand out of Kael's grip and stormed straight out of his office.
My heels clicked sharply against the marble hallway—click-clack, click-clack.
Wolves from Creekrock Pack scattered out of my way as I passed.
Behind me, Kael didn't chase. Instead, a thunderous door slam echoed through the corridor.
I didn't care about his tantrum; he was just an ex-mate now.
But my sharp wolf hearing caught the whispers of the staff.
"Finally, Ms. Sanders is back! Stella totally had this coming!"
"Right! She ran off Ms. Sanders two years ago. What goes around comes around."
Ran her off? I'd been forced into this mating! Yet somehow, I was the one accused of stealing her man?
That Lydia sure was crafty—exiled from Stonecave Pack, and she still had people spreading lies about me from afar.
I locked eyes with the two gossips and marched over in my heels.
The two female staff froze, snapping their mouths shut and bowing their heads.
I grabbed one by the chin, yanking her face up to meet mine.
"Ms... Ms. Preston!" she stammered, eyes wide with panic.
I raised an eyebrow. "Enjoying my drama?"
Her face drained of color. "N-No! I didn't—"
Pathetic. Getting revenge on someone this spineless would be no fun.
I let her go in disgust, my sharp gaze slicing across the entire hallway.
Every wolf ducked their head, too scared to breathe.
"Next time you spread rumors about me," I warned, voice cold, "it won't just be a warning."
With that, I kept walking.
But as soon as I stepped outside the office building, there was Lydia—stepping out of a car.
Kael's Beta, Ethan Rust, held the door open for her. She handed him a stack of bags.
"Pass these out to the secretaries," she said softly. "They work so hard for Kael."
She acted like she was already the pack's future Luna.
Ethan took the bags respectfully. "Thank you, Ms. Sanders."
Lydia nodded gently, then turned and met my gaze.
I sized her up: healthy skin, toned figure. She'd clearly been living well since her exile.
Lydia froze for a split second, then sauntered over. "Stella," she purred, like we were old friends.
But her eyes oozed malice; her sweetness was just for Ethan's benefit.
She leaned in, her voice dropping to a taunt. "You're his mate, yet he asked me to come to his office. Tell me—does he even see you as Creekrock Pack's future Luna?"
Bitch! Daring to provoke us! My wolf snarled, nearly breaking free to tear her apart.
I calmed my wolf, then smiled—a cold, villainous grin.
"I could be his Luna if I wanted," I sneered. "But you? You can only sneak into his federal office as his dirty little secret. Can you get the pack elders' approval? You can't even step foot inside Creekrock Pack's territory!"
Lydia's face flickered—her eyes turning venomous.
I'd hit a nerve. An exiled wolf? The elders would never accept her.
She'd always be the other woman.
Watching her seethe in silence, I grinned. That was what cheaters got.
"Don't celebrate too soon," she spat. "As long as I'm here, your mating ceremony will never happen."
I shrugged, unimpressed.
"There are plenty of Alphas out there," I said. "I don't need Kael."
A cheating piece of garbage? Good riddance.
Lydia's jaw dropped. "What? Don't you love him? You made such a fuss two years ago—now you're acting like you don't care? Who are you fooling?"
I laughed. "Fooling no one. Without Kael, other Alphas would beg me to be their Luna. But you? An exiled wolf—who else would want you? Even if Kael loves you, he'll never fully mark you. You'll always be the other woman."
Lydia's face turned bright red with rage.
Watching her fake sweetness crumble, I felt satisfied.
Did she really forget how I'd taken her down two years ago?
I turned to leave—no need to waste more time.
But Lydia suddenly grabbed my wrist, putting on a sickening show of innocence. "Stella, I'm just here for treatment! I never wanted to ruin your relationship. Please don't misunderstand!"
"Let go," I growled.
When Lydia touched my wrist, even the wolf within me felt like passing out from the sickening stench of her.
I pulled my hand away sharply—and Lydia crumpled to the ground with a loud thud—like a toad hitting concrete.
Before I could react, Kael roared from across the lot, "Stella!"
