Chapter 1 — The Most Absurd Of All
Kelsey Sinclair's POV
I woke up, feeling as though I had been run over by something.
It was unbearable!
I habitually turned over, only to be met with a striking face with a cold, resolute expression.
My breath hitched in shock as my pupils dilated.
After a few seconds of my mind going blank, I abruptly remembered what had happened.
Last night, at the werewolves' graduation party, someone had spiked my drink. In my attempt to escape, I inadvertently ended up in this man's room.
I recalled the man's eyes being as dark as ink, radiating a wolf-like bloodlust. With a simple flick of his fingers, he effortlessly tore through my dress. His entire being exuded the thrill of a predator cornering its prey.
The man's lips pressed against my neck, his teeth, sharp as a wolf's, roughly gnawed at me, making me cry out in pain.
However, I could hear my inner wolf, Lola's excited howls within me, completely immersed in the joy of the impending union.
The man exuded a powerful, masculine scent, his attire partially revealing his solid, muscular chest and perfect waistline.
He showed no trace of pity, reaching out to remove my underwear. His delicate kisses trailed downward, his tongue gliding across my lower abdomen. He savored the taste of my skin briefly before continuing his journey to my intimate area.
Instinctively, I tried to lift my hips to escape, but the man pushed me back down. Following that, a peculiar sensation coursed through my lower body, causing my eyes to widen in surprise.
His fingers seemed to possess a magic touch. Under his manipulation, I found myself defenseless and utterly defeated.
Helplessly, I clutched at the bed sheets, my body gradually arching like a bow. As the waves of pleasure continued to escalate, my body suddenly convulsed, releasing a surge of fluid.
Seeing my state, the man chuckled softly. He unbuckled his belt and entered me, his desire apparent.
“Ah...” I couldn't help but let out a moan, the sound of which made me feel utterly embarrassed.
The man continued to thrust with vigor, each time deeper and stronger than before.
He was like a wild animal, tirelessly ravaging my body.
After what felt like an eternity, just as I was on the brink of exhaustion, the man finally seemed ready to stop.
We reached the pinnacle of our passion together, falling into a deep sleep while holding each other tightly.
Back to the present, the man beside me was still asleep.
Biting back the pain, I cautiously climbed out of the bed. The room was a mess, with my clothes torn to shreds and scattered across the floor. With no other option, I picked up a man's white shirt and slipped it on, then quietly made my exit.
Nathaniel Halston's POV
When I woke up, the person who was beside me had already disappeared without a trace.
The only evidence of a woman sharing my bed last night was the chaos left behind and the small red stains on the sheets.
I squinted my eyes, my sharp senses searching for the lingering scent of the woman from last night. However, her scent in the air had significantly faded, indicating that she had left quite some time ago.
As the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack, I had been plagued by a peculiar illness since my childhood. I was allergic to the scent of other female wolves. Any contact with them would cause my skin to break out in red rashes and my breathing to become labored. As a result, no woman could ever get close to me.
I seldom made an appearance, which led to malicious rumors circling around me. The most absurd of them all was the claim that I was incapable of producing an heir for the pack, the next-generation Alpha.
I initially thought I was cursed by the Moon Goddess, doomed to live my life without my own Luna.
However, the woman of unknown origin who appeared last night was an inexplicable miracle to me.
I recalled the woman's scent being incredibly sweet. As I drew closer to her, Dylan had howled with excitement.
“Mate, she's our mate!”
Without a moment's hesitation, I picked up my phone and called my assistant. “Come over right now.”
Before long, my assistant, Sebastian Thorne, appeared in the suite.
After getting fully dressed and turning toward Sebastian, I instructed him, “Check the surveillance cameras and find the woman who entered my room.”
“A woman!”
“What's the matter? Is there a problem?” The temperature of my voice dropped a couple of degrees.
“No, no problem,” Sebastian replied, ready to turn and leave at once.
Seeing that, I added quickly, “Have Mr. Langford come to my office.”
Chapter 2 — The Divorce
Kelsey's POV
By the time I returned to the Moonstone Pack, it was nearly nine o'clock.
As I watched the housekeepers cleaning the courtyard, I paused in my tracks.
Since I hadn't returned home all night, it was bound to stir up gossip and speculation.
As I was hesitating, contemplating whether to avoid him or not, the butler had already approached me.
“Mrs. Halston, you've returned!”
“Yeah.”
At that moment, the butler noticed my attire. “Mrs. Halston, your clothing...?”
I casually tugged at the men's shirt I was wearing. “I just bought this new style. Isn't it nice?”
As long as I didn't show any signs of fear, the butler wouldn't dare to question me.
Although this men's shirt was oversized, the length was just right, reaching the top of my thighs.
Upon seeing this, the butler simply chose not to say anything further.
I straightened my back and headed toward the second floor of the house.
Inside the bathroom of the room.
I submerged myself entirely in the bathtub as a means to alleviate the physical pain I was enduring.
With my eyes closed, I found myself reflecting on the events of the previous night. “D*mn it, I'm so mad!”
I made a vow to uncover the person who drugged me and make them pay the price!
At the thought of what I did last night, I gritted my teeth. I knew that I couldn't let anyone know about this matter.
After all, my husband, whom I've been married to for three years yet never met, was due to return from abroad in the next few days.
If he found out about this, the Stardust Pack would be in serious trouble.
Just as I was nursing a headache, a knock sounded from outside the door. “Mrs. Halston,” came the butler's voice.
“Is there something you need?” I managed to rein in my emotions as I responded.
“Mr. Halston, he...”
“He's back?” I tensed up.
He's back so soon?
“No, it's Mr. Halston's lawyer who's here. He wishes to see you.”
Lawyer?
Why would a lawyer show up at a time like this?
I found myself deep in thought as I gradually rose to dress.
In the living room.
Lennon Langford was seated on the couch, with two documents and a pen arranged on the coffee table before him.
I walked over and sat down on the nearby couch. “Mr. Langford, you're here because...?”
“Luna, this is from Alpha,” Lennon stated without any formalities, promptly handing me the documents from the coffee table.
I reached out and took it. Guided by a woman's intuition, I felt there was more to this document than met the eye!
As I flipped open the folder, my gaze landed on the bold letters of the document's first line.
“Divorce agreement? He wants a divorce with me?” The news came abruptly, leaving me somewhat startled and confused.
“Yes,” Lennon nodded, “After you end your marriage with Alpha, the fifty million dowry from the Stardust Pack is yours to keep as compensation.”
“Is he serious?” I still couldn't believe that such good fortune had unexpectedly befallen me.
Three years ago, the Stardust Pack was on the brink of bankruptcy. My stepmother, Madeline Westwood, conspired with my ruthless biological father to trade me off to the Moonstone Pack in exchange for fifty million.
She had initially thought that it would take her five to eight years to escape the arranged marriage with the Moonstone Pack, but she managed to get out of it in just three years?
“Yes.” Lennon nodded. “Alpha has already signed the documents.”
“Why does he want to divorce me?”
“He didn't say.”
“All right!”
I swiftly turned to the last page and happily signed my name next to Nathaniel's.
Although I was clueless about why Nathaniel divorced as soon as he returned, I didn't want to delve into it. After all, it was his decision to split!
This worked out perfectly. I gained my freedom and my Alpha father would have nothing to say about it.
After the lawyer had left, I was filled with joy and got ready to head upstairs to pack my belongings and leave.
“Luna, Mdm. Milton is here,” a housekeeper suddenly rushed in from outside to announce.
Upon hearing that, I turned around and looked toward the door. There stood Cassandra Milton, still appearing quite young despite being over fifty, gracefully making her entrance.
Under my watchful gaze, Cassandra walked to the main seat of the living room couch and sat down. Then, she slowly lifted her head, locking eyes with me.
“What's got you so cheerful?” Cassandra asked me, her brows furrowed in curiosity.
“I'm happy because I've divorced Nathaniel. As of today, I no longer live here.”
Cassandra had always looked down on me because I came from a small pack. Hence, she had never allowed me to call her “Mom.”
But it didn't matter. I didn't have any particular fondness for this domineering and arrogant mother-in-law either.
After saying that, I proceeded to climb the stairs.
“Stop!” Cassandra's voice halted me in my tracks.
“I came here today specifically to ask you, did you cheat on my son?”
I was taken aback, turning to look at the visibly upset Cassandra. Then, my gaze shifted to the butler. With a slight curve of my lips, I calmly and composedly stated, “There's no such thing.”
I didn't feel guilty. After all, I'd never met Nathaniel in person, so there was no question of emotional betrayal.
Secondly, I was also a victim.
“Still won't admit it, huh? Someone, go search!”
Upon hearing Cassandra's instructions, the housekeepers hurriedly ascended the stairs to search my bedroom.
Before long, the men's shirt that I hadn't gotten around to dealing with was found and handed over to Cassandra.
“What is this?” Cassandra demanded, her fingers clutching the fabric as her face flushed red.
“A dress shirt I just bought this morning,” I calmly replied.
There was no way I would admit to this matter because if it were to escalate, the Moonstone Pack would undoubtedly not let the Stardust Pack off the hook.
Though the Stardust Pack didn't matter much to me, it would still cause trouble for my mother.
Chapter 3 — Her Name Is Kelsey Sinclair
Kelsey's POV
Cassandra rose to her feet and strode toward me. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped me across the face. Immediately, my cheek swelled and turned a fiery shade of red.
“So even now you won't admit it, Kelsey? I see that not only have you been unfaithful, but you've also been using our Moonstone Pack's money to support your lover on the side, haven't you!”
I gingerly touched my swollen face, surprised that Cassandra had managed to concoct an entire drama just from a single shirt.
I looked at Cassandra evenly. “I've been married into the Moonstone Pack for three years now, and Nathaniel hasn't shown his face once. Besides, foreign customs have always been liberal. If anyone were to stray, I'm afraid he'd beat me to it!”
“You!”
Cassandra raised her hand, intending to slap me again, but I was quick and managed to grab her wrist.
“Mdm. Milton, you are my elder. I can accept you slapping me once, but don't forget how I got into the Moonstone Pack back then. If we really want to get into the nitty-gritty, it could be disadvantageous for both of us.”
Back then, I was drugged and brought into the Moonstone Pack. If it wasn't for my mother still being held by the Moonstone Pack, why would I willingly endure three years as the unpopular Luna, shielding Nathaniel from all the idle gossip and criticism?
“Are you threatening me?” Cassandra's eyes widened in disbelief.
“No, it was just a friendly reminder,” I said, a hint of a smile playing on my lips as I released Cassandra's hand.
“If there's nothing else you need, I'll be on my way.”
Having said that, I made my way upstairs to gather my belongings and then left with my head held high.
Sebastian's POV
Inside the office.
“Mr. Halston, I've found her,” I announced, entering the room and walking toward the Alpha seated on the couch.
As I spoke, I respectfully handed over the document I held in my hands.
“Her name is Kelsey Sinclair. I've looked into it, and she was here yesterday for the graduation party. It seems like she was drugged and mistakenly entered your room.”
Right off the bat, I dismissed the suspicion that someone had deliberately sent Kelsey.
It sounded like a tale of Alice accidentally stumbling into Wonderland.
Nathaniel flipped through the documents, only to find a set of photos mingled within.
Watching Nathaniel's gaze linger on the photos for a long time, I hesitated before cautiously adding, “Mr. Halston, there's something you might need to know.”
“What's the matter?”
“This Kelsey woman, she's married now.” I nearly bit my tongue as I spoke.
I had been with Nathaniel for many years, and I knew that finding a woman who didn't trigger his allergies was as miraculous as a scientist discovering a second Earth in the universe.
But I also knew that he was a clean freak.
Another man's woman... I'm afraid he wouldn't find that acceptable!
As expected, Nathaniel's expression darkened rapidly, and the atmosphere around him instantly dropped a few degrees.
I silently broke out in a cold sweat. I was just telling the truth.
Buzz!
My phone chose that inappropriate time to ring.
The call was from the manor.
Subconsciously, I turned my gaze toward Nathaniel. He was looking down, seemingly giving me permission to answer.
I quickly answered the phone, but the call ended after merely two seconds.
Once again feeling conflicted, I looked toward the man on the couch. “Alpha, I just got a call from the manor. Mdm. Milton has brought some people with her to the manor and is currently causing trouble for Luna. Mdm. Milton is... accusing Luna of having an affair.”
The last sentence came out with a hint of unease lacing his words.
“Alpha, do you need to go back?” I prompted, seeing that Nathaniel hadn't responded for a while.
