Chapter 1
"I GOT THE DRINKS!!!"
I heard Iris scream loudly trying to surpass the loud sound of the music's uproar that was hell bent on blowing out my eardrums tonight at the club.
"About time! Why did you take so long!" I tried my best to scream right back at her, taking one of the red plastic cups from her hands. The cups contained mixed cocktails which I would prefer to not know its ingredients.
It was my first night here at Tropical Thunder, the biggest and busiest nightclub in the whole of Bournville. Basically, everyone from our college went here including a bunch of hormonal high school teens with fake IDs who just wanted to prove to their peers that they were bad enough. What complete idiots they were, wasting their time trying to prove their self-worth to other people who couldn't even care less. Trying to live up to others' standards just sounded dumb to me, like why don't you just be you? But anyways enough of my opinion, Iris began saying.
"I met a guy," Iris giggled, bobbing her head side to side, dancing to the rhythm of the music that played.
A guy she said? This was just typical of Iris. She literally changed guys every single week, but what could I do with her? She was my best friend and the only one that I had.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those pathetic and shy types of girls who find it hard to make new friends or don't know how to have a good time. No, that wasn't the case here. I think I'm actually quite fun to hang with and I bet anyone would love to be friends with me but the real reason I didn't have any friends was just because no one could actually stick around to understand my already fucked up life except Iris.
She always stuck around no matter what happened. She was more than a friend to me, we had a sisterly bond that couldn't be daunted. To me, she was family and the only one I had left.
Iris and I practically grew up together at the same orphanage home when we were kids, well that was until she got adopted by a loving, rich and wealthy human family and I got adopted by a disgusting drunkard and abuser. But oh well, that is just my typical luck. It was crappy, very crappy if I may add. Like the type of luck where–lightning would strike at the same place twice–kind of crappy.
"Who is the new guy that got you smiling like this?" I asked as we both started to dance to the beat that played in the background. It was pizzaboys, they made the best music.
"Remember Landon Brettman? From literature class?" She asked as she turned around while I ran my hands all over her body as we danced rocking our bodies together.
But wait, she got to be fucking kidding me?
Do I remember Landon Brettman?! Of course, I remember Landon Brettman, it would be impossible to forget someone as annoying and lousy as Landon Brettman or like I usually refer to as Landon jerkman.
Landon was a spoiled, proud, egoistical show-off and a big man whore among many other things like a showoff, brat, proud, annoying, lousy, overly confident and the list could go on and on.
And out of all the numerous courses I had applied for, sadly I was unlucky enough to share one with hi--literature.
Landon looked more like one of those stereotypical 90s jocks if I'm being blatantly honest. To simply put, a guy like Landon was a total waste to humanity. Facts!
"Ew. I bet he wouldn't even last a day with you. It's either you dump his sorry ass or he cheats again." I chortled, expressing my disgust about the thought of her and Landon together. I really hoped this wasn't going to be a long-term thing.
"Maybe? Honestly, I think so too, but I'm going to be the one dumping him first." we both laughed "But you know that they all just serve as a fun distraction for me until I find my one true mate," Iris said dreamily. She was really excited about the thought of meeting her mate, destined for her by the Moon goddess.
Yes, you guessed right! Iris is a werewolf and I am a witch. And yes, all those stories you were probably told in the dark or around silly campfires by older kids just to scare the living shit out of you are actually true. Magic is real. Creatures, monsters, and things you would never believe were even possible were also very much real, and as a matter of fact, they all wanted me dead.
I don't know what sin I must have committed in my past life but every single creature on this already fucked up planet wanted me dead.
Well speaking of monsters that want me dead, I have caught the eyes of the lady sitting by the bar counter staring at us multiple times. Was she also one of them? Was she part of the Red Circle? No, the red circle couldn't have possibly tracked me down to Bournville. I had made sure those witches could never and whoever did really deserved a medal or something and I'm not kidding. But I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about this strange woman. I couldn't tell what she was but I was sure she wanted me too.
"Iris" I slid my hands to get waist, turning her around as we danced. "Don't freak out or anything but– I think the woman by the bar is spying on us." I whispered softly into her ears, so as not to draw any attention from our watcher.
"WHERE?!!" Iris blurted, frantically stirring her head around in search of the woman I spoke about, while I instantly regretted that I had even mentioned anything to her. Oh goddess, leave it all up to Iris to remain calm in potentially dangerous situations.
"Fuck it, Iris! I said don't freak out or she would notice. You are freaking out." I whispered, looking at the woman wearing a leathered black outfit with braided red hair. She had a smug grin on her face as she sipped from her glass unknowingly. She was unto us now. I need to be careful about whatever I do next.
"Isabelle--" Iris said in a whispery shaky voice "She doesn't smell... Human." I saw the fear evident in my best friend's eyes. I really felt bad for her, she shouldn't be going through any of this mess that I have been dragging her into for the past fifteen years. The monsters weren't after her, as a matter of fact, every monster we had encountered had admitted to being after me not her. But she always remained in constant danger all because of me.
But how in hell did this monster find me? I mean for the past three years it was really hard to maintain a low profile, but I did my best. I did a cloaking spell to make tracking me and Iris next to impossible, I even went as far as putting on a charm bracelet given to me by my mother to bind my witch powers and so far it worked, I managed to keep off the Red Circle's radar at the very least.
The Red Circle is a coven of very highly trained mercenary witches. They were assassins and have been after me for a lot of personal reasons and luckily I haven't run into them in a long while. One important reason the Red Circle was after me is that their leader is my aunt, the one responsible for my parents death. I could feel my stomach twist into a knot just thinking about it.
"Don't worry so much, I could just be imagining the whole thing. I'll go out through the back and see if she is going to follow. Don't worry it's going to be okay." I faked a smile. I knew I wasn't imagining the whole thing. I was about ninety-nine percent sure that the lady across the bar wanted me dead but I didn't want to worry Iris even more. She's been through enough already.
"Do you need backup?" Iris questioned holding my wrist back as I was about to leave.
"No, It's okay. I got this." I winked at her, quickly navigated my way out through the dancing wave of bodies and then I went out of the club through its back door which led to a quiet and dark alley.
Everywhere was completely dark, the only source of light was the beautiful moon above. It gave light, and shone on everything below.
Where the hell is she now? I asked myself looking around for our stalker monster, I could feel the cold of the night air sting at me as I pulled out my silver dagger from my boot, holding tight to the helm. I carried it everywhere I went, it belonged to my mom and whenever I held it I could feel like she was still here with me, watching over me. I quickly brushed off those sentimental thoughts out of my mind. I needed to focus on the danger on the ground.
"Are you looking for me, darling?" I was startled by the old British voice that came from behind me. I clutched tighter to my dagger shielding it behind me.
"Oh fuck--" I snapped, looking at the lady from the bar up close, she seemed like she was in her late twenties or early thirties, she wore dark makeup and had lots of tattoos and piercings. Her outfit was full-on black and I had to admit she looked badass. And her hair was Auburn red, long and plaited.
"What do you want?" I asked a question I already knew the answer to. She wanted one word. Me! And me alone. Just like every other monster, she wanted me for my blood.
"Isn't it obvious darling, I just want you." Of course she wanted me too, just like I thought. They all wanted me just like my mom warned me fifteen years ago before she was murdered. I winced a bit at that painful memory that has been haunting my dreams ever since I was a child.
I never really understood why they were all after me, all I knew was I needed to survive and keep running for as long as I had to, oh well that's until I met the man with the butterfly tattoo, wherever rock he had been hiding in, my mom also mentioned that he could be of some assistance to me and my destiny. But this wasn't like in the fairy tales where the prince charming suddenly swoops in to save the poor damsel in distress and they ride into the sunset on a magical rainbow unicorn, those stories actually sound so damn ridiculous to me. I was no damsel and I didn't have the luxuries of a prince charming. Not like I needed one anyway, I have been taking perfectly good care of myself for the past fifteen years and I'll continue to do so.
'Focus Isabella!’ I urged myself mentally. I shouldn't be carried away by these memories.
"Why?" I asked sizing my opponent up and she clearly worked out a lot because she was a lot bigger than me, well every monster I ever came across was bigger than me. Compared to them I was little and it always gave me a fair advantage because they always underestimated me and each time didn't live long enough to regret it.
"I think you already know the answer to that one" she smiled wickedly. But um, no I don't. I don't know the answer to that. Yes, I knew they badly wanted me dead and it had to do with my blood but why did they badly want my blood for crying out loud? Okay, let's change the subject.
"How did you find me?" I inquired, dying to know where I had gone wrong in keeping them away.
"In case you haven't noticed by now, you have a kind of scent to you, it's different and just simply hard to resist. I'm wondering how your blood would taste.'' she spoke in a thick English accent as she inched closer to me. I moved further back of course.
"Poor sweet child, I have been around this foul earth for almost a millennium and not once have I come across someone with a scent as powerful as yours, you are incredibly special and rare. It's a real pity you are still too young but don't be scared little one, I give you my word, it will be a quick and painless death. You won't even feel a thing I promise. Just like snapping a dried-up twig, quick and effortless." she laughed out like an evil maniac.
"You know you have lived so long I actually feel a little bad to have to kill you but then again I really doubt anyone is going to miss you that much.'’ I countered with a smirk.
“Foolish child!” She spat, laughing at my words then looked back at me. Her eyes were enveloped with darkness, they were pitch black as dark criss-crossed veins ran up her neck aimlessly, shooting down her arms. And extremely long canines shot out from her mouth.
"What in the bloody hell are you?" I asked as I felt my heart rate rise up the charts. I really needed to know what I was going up against if I wanted to win.
A memory of one of the very few lessons my dad taught me struck my thoughts. He told me The battle is half-won when you realize what your opponent's strengths and weaknesses are.
‘Be one step ahead Isabella dear…' he always used to say.
"Oh, child. Have you never come across a wendigo before?" She continued cackling "Scared? You should be'' I heard her bones snapping and slowly she turned into this huge creature looming over me. She snarled, as she charged and attacked me with her claws but I easily slid out of harm's way. She growled in anger, as I attacked with my dagger in hand, barely piercing her skin.
We had been at it, fighting for what felt like an eternity but it was only about ten minutes, guess it's true what they say about time flying fast when you are having fun and it not flying fast when you aren't having fun. It also seems like time doesn't fly fast when you're battling for your own fucking life.
Every single attack I made against her was futile, she just brushed them off with ease, I knew I was losing and I was losing fast. I was violently shoved to the floor with my dagger thrown only the goddess knows where.
The huge wendigo growled standing in front of me, her breathing ragged like a wounded beast she was.
"Hey! Get away from my best friend, you extremely terrifying giant monster." I turned my head to the familiar voice to see Iris as she started to shift into her white wolf.
“No Iris please get away.” I say with a groan. I would never be able to forgive myself if she got hurt because of me. I couldn't live with that guilt on my conscience. Enough people have died to protect me already, it is enough. No more had to die.
Iris lunged at the wendigo, battling and slashing it with her sharp claws but in no time was roughly blown away, I could hear her whimper a bit as she crashed against a wall. But Iris bought me enough time to grab my silver dagger and with the element of surprise I stealthily struck the wendigo right in the heart as it let out a loud shriek while its heart melted like ice. Not kidding or whatever, the heart melted into some kind of blue liquid.
According to all the books and lores I read, although they all differed in one way or the other but majority agreed that wendigos were once humans with a huge carnivorous appetite for human flesh, well actually monsters weren't ever born– they were created. Long story short they messed up with a very powerful witch so the witch cursed them to be monsters with the insatiable thirst for human flesh. Now the folklore also mentioned in its contexts that the only thing that could kill a wendigo is a silver blade to the heart. Guess it was true after all.
Looking at the ground laid its body. "Is it dead?" Iris questioned me, wearing an oversized brown coat, I wonder where she got it from.
"Yeah," I responded, trying to catch my breath, packing a handful of my blonde hair from my face.
"Are you okay? She shoved you pretty hard." I placed my hand on her shoulder, inspecting her closely.
"Nah, I'm good. I have tough skin and I heal quicker than you." she smiled, making me worry less. She needed to stop risking her life for me, I would have scolded her but I knew Iris too well, she wouldn't listen. She never does.
"Good. Quick, let's take it to the woods and bury it before someone sees us." I suggested taking the lead by dragging the dead creature by the horn.
"Sure," Iris said, joining me to drag the Wendigo's lifeless body. After reaching the woods, we buried it six feet deep into the ground. Iris and I went straight to the apartment where we both lived. It was closer to the state campus. I found it difficult to even close my eyes and fall asleep.
Today another monster found me and I had a surefire feeling it won't be the last I'm going to have to face. More were going to follow as it was only a matter of time.
But I am going to be ready for all of them.

Chapter 2
*Mate!*
Dimitri's point of view
IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY THAT I got a whiff of her scent at tropical thunder. Yes, after all this time I finally felt her for the first time, my so-called mate. But for her own sake I really wish I hadn't.
'Mate!' Luca my wolf has practically been singing that exact word in my head over and over again ever since yesterday when he smelt her, it was agonizingly painful to bear. I guess he was leaping with joy at the thought of finally meeting his so-called soulmate but I wasn't, and to be honest meeting someone chosen for me by the moon goddess wasn't exactly thrilling to me. It sounds too cliche if you asked me. There were still a lot of things that needed my attention first, things that needed to be done, and she smelt like a human. What the hell could she possibly do to help me or the pack?
I don't care what Celeste or her damn prophecies had said, but a human mate was of no use to me and even more to the entire pack, if anything she would only stand in my way.
My name is Dimitri Axel Castellan and just to pique your curiosity I'm not just your regular werewolf, I am a Lycan. Well the last one that still roamed this already fucked up world as it is, our sworn enemies, the vampires, made sure of that.
To the mundane world I am the CEO of Castellan corp and Europe's youngest and most eligible billionaire playboy. But when I'm not out signing checks, making deals or breaking pretty girls' hearts, I'm the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, the biggest and most formidable pack in the entire continents and the world. To the supernatural world I am known as the Blood Alpha and everyone's worst nightmare.
My father, the former Alpha lycan king and my mother the Luna queen died a few years after I was born. Four years to be more exact. A flashback of that cursed day crept back into my mind. The day both my parents were killed, the day we were raided and attacked by the Volkari coven, it's been already two decades and three years ever since but the memory was fresh to me like it was just yesterday, it haunted and plagued my thoughts. I guess time could heal some wounds but this wound won't.
In case you were wondering, the Volkari's were a coven of very ancient and elite vampires. They were nothing but blood thirsty parasites if you asked me and are the immortal enemies of us werewolves. What made them so dangerous was that they had thousands of armies and they were presumably spread out to every corner of the world with one sole motive, to cause destruction wherever they went.
Vampires in the Volkari pack were evil and every pack knew better than to draw their attention. I brushed those thoughts out of my mind as I slammed the door of my black Rolls Royce shut, as I reached my intended destination. I had arrived at Coffee bay, the best café in Bournville, they served the best coffee which I literally ran on.
I pushed open the door to the café where Lance and Gabe were already seated at a table, waiting for me. Lance is my childhood friend, one of the very few people I could completely trust and he is also my beta and second in command in my pack so our bond was strengthened. He is also one of the pack's best warriors if I do say so myself. While Gabe is my delta and he is also my annoying little cousin that gets on my nerves from time to time. Sometimes I fucking hate that mutt.
The familiar and ever so appealing sweet scent of vanilla and fresh lilacs mixed together was all over the place again.
Oh good goddess! She must be very close. The scent only grew stronger and stronger.
For fuck sake why was fate playing this cruel game with me. I could feel Luca growl in excitement just by catching a whiff of her scent, as he chanted the word 'Mate! Mate! Mate!' like a holy mantra, for the first time I really wished he could just keep quiet. I and Luca agreed on almost everything except on the matter of finding our mate, he wanted her but I didn't.
"Alpha!" Lance my b.eta said standing to his feet with a courteous bow and Gabe my delta did the same except that he had a cheesy wide smile on, I gave them back an acknowledging nod. And we all took our seats as the waiter took our orders.
Lance presented me with some paperwork and contracts that desperately needed my signatures on them. I had been really preoccupied these days looking for some kind of loophole to escape our pack's curse but hitting a dead end at every turn. The blood moon was set to rise in the next ninety three days, we really were running out of time. Just then the door chimed open and I saw her walk in, with her footsteps echoing all around the room.
She had long, dirty blond hair that reached up to her waist, which she immediately brushed back from her face as soon as she walked in. And don't get me started on her eyes, she had a pair of electric blue eyes, the prettiest I had ever seen with a set of incredibly perfect lips. The best I had ever seen.
"Mate!" I couldn't hold back Luca from uttering out the word, causing both Lance and Gabe to instantly freeze and stare at me in total surprise and shock. I didn't tell them about her appearance yesterday.
'What the fuck Luca?' I instantly regretted saying the word the minute it departed from my lips.
"Alpha-" Lance turned back to look at my mate who was wearing a very revealing white off-shoulder crop top and blue denim jeans that owned up to every curve.
'Our mate is really hot' I heard Luca compliment while I just rolled my eyes at the brute. But I had to agree with him, she was indeed a beauty to the eyes, unlike many I had seen. A beauty like hers was natural and authentic.
"Is that Luna?" Lance asked, narrowing his gaze on me as if trying to read my thoughts.
"Judging by the bad scowl brother has on his face it has got to be my sister in law" Gabe said laughing like a jackass.
"Shut up!" I grit out with a low key growl knocking that stupid smile off his face. Sister in law? What a joke.
"You should go and talk to her Alpha, Celeste claims that she is the pack's last hope." Lance suggests. They both knew how much I dreaded the idea of finally meeting my mate. I didn't want her. I don't need her.
'But your pack does.' Luca murmured ever so tauntingly to me. Now I really wish there was like a little off button to shut that loud talker up. The fuck, he was slowly driving me up the edge of insanity.
'Shut the hell up' I retorted mentally, but he was right though. According to Celeste the pack's witch, 'she would be the pack's salvation from the curse that plagued us for centuries or she would be our destruction splattered with our own blood'. It was a real dicey prophecy, our salvation or our destruction, whichever it was I didn't want to take a chance to find out. The pack had just started to move on from the tragedy that had occurred previously. I can't put them through another one, it was my duty to them as their alpha to protect them.
'What are you going to do now?' I heard Luca hiss. He was really enjoying seeing me tormented. Stupid wolf. I had a plan--
'More like a dumb temporary fix. Really Alpha? Was that the best plan you could come up with?' Luca interrupted sarcastically, getting on my last nerves. My plan was indeed a temporary fix but or a way to buy time, but nevertheless it entailed avoiding my mate wherever she was but now that plan was sinking fast in the sand because here she was in front of me, unavoidable.
"I'll talk to her. Eventually. But for now I just need some time to think." I watched her order just a cup of black coffee to go, for a split-second both our eyes met then she quickly looked away and so did I. I stood up going to my car, I needed time to think about what to do next.
'Sounds like you are just running away, again.' Luca spoke disapprovingly.
'I don't run away from anyone or anything.' I retorted back at him mentally while going to my car.
'Destiny is always going to bring our mate closer to us, it's inevitable! It's Fate!' Luca said while I just ignored him. I'll deal with fate later.
On getting into my car I realized I had left my iPhone at the café. This mate thing was really starting to mess with my head. Guess I'm heading right back in. That was when the pleasantly unexpected happened.
Isabelle point of view
Oh my god! I really did it this time.
I overslept and I was already late for my classes. Iris was probably waiting impatiently for me with an angry scowl or she got carried away with boys as per usual. I just had to get a cup of coffee from the only café in Bourneville that served a decent cup of coffee and then off to the university, my own personal torture room. But it did serve as a good cover from people that were after me, no one expected me to be studying at a college.
Immediately I walked into the cafe, I felt some kind of electric tingle. I can't explain it but it was like I was struck by electricity and at the same time I wasn't because it didn't hurt me, it felt like a good type of electricity if there was ever a good type of electricity.
What the hell am I even saying? Only the goddess knows how much I needed my today's cup of coffee. I literally ran on caffeine.
Just at the table before me were three extremely handsome guys, they looked like perfect male models with unrealistic body build. And one of them was full on staring at me as though he knew me. His eyes hold a type of cold but burning fire and desire. He really did look familiar to me but with a face like his it would be impossible to forget if I met him.
He was really that good looking, he could surely pass as one of those blazing hot male models you could only find in cosmopolitan magazines covered with lesser clothing.
He had pitch black hair and I could notice an ear ring stuck on his right lobe although his long hair tried to cover it up. He was wearing a black V-neck shirt that really brought out his muscles and black tight jeans. He looked very familiar though. He had full dark eyebrows and his eyes were incredulously brown, but it was a faded brown, almost ice brown. The kind of brown that reminded me of winter trees at twilight and chocolates, mostly chocolates. I could feel my heartbeat go faster and faster.
The two guys seated with him suddenly turned around to look at me which was kind of creepy. Why were they all now staring? Was there something on my face? My self conscious thoughts kicked in. Or were they just checking me out? Those darn perverts. Or could they also be monsters after me? Extremely stunning and hot monsters that's for sure.
Oh goddess!
I wasn't in the mood to get into another fight, I was completely exhausted as hell from all last night wendigo fighting but I was pretty confident that I could take all three of them on, even though the numbers weren't in my favor and neither was the size. They looked four times my size, what kind of physical enhancing drugs were these guys on? Steroids??
The extremely handsome one got up with a cold serious scowl, then went out of the café with a lip tight frown.
'Just get your damn coffee and get the hell out of here, isabella!' I said to myself mentally. After I got my order I practically ran out of the café just then I smacked into something that felt as hard as a wall or was it someone?. Fuck, I spilled my coffee, luckily nothing got on my white top but the coffee was all over the other person.
Shit!
"Sorry about that," I said, dropping the brown Styrofoam cup to the floor, trying to dab off the stain from his black shirt, unwillingly feeling his rock hard abs.
'Ahh focus isabella!' I urged myself, keeping my wandering thoughts at bay.
"Don't fucking touch me human!" The person in front of me bit out venomously with a thick English accent as he moved away. But human? What the Fuck is up with that?
"You have eyes so why don't you use them and watch where you go!" He sighs, having a dead serious look on his face. From the look of his expensive watch and shoes, he could definitely afford another shirt so I don't understand why he was so angry.
Oh shit! It was the same handsome guy from just inside of the café. But who in hell did he think he was to talk to me like that? A spoiled brat that's what he was.
"You also have eyes too, don't you? So do me a favor next time and try being more careful. And quit acting like such a brat I said sorry already." I rolled my eyes, crossing my arm over my chest. I felt uncomfortable with his gaze on me. I wasn't short, I was about 5'7 but compared to him I was nothing but a stick in the mud. He looked about 6'4 or more. Damn he was tall, with a very chiseled jaw and those biceps of his made Chris Evans biceps from civil war look shameful. I'm sorry but it was true, you would say the same thing if you saw them too.
"Brat!?" I heard him growl. "How dare you call me a brat, do you know who you're talking to?" He grabbed onto my arm roughly pulling me closer to him till our faces were just inches apart, I could feel his hot breathing on my face as I stared at his enchanting eyes.
Ugh, I really don't know why I was having these stupid tingles again. It was like my body secretly craved for his touch and wanted to stay this way forever.
"Honestly, I don't know who you are and I really couldn't care less who you were" I removed his hand from my wrist as he just stared at me in surprise. I took a quick glance at my watch "I would have gotten you another shirt but I really don't have time for this. I'm already late for a class.I hope we do not run into each other ever again" I left him standing there looking shocked and angry as hell.
I quickly drove to college and got into the ongoing lecture. It was Literature. I could see Iris sitting in the third row in front and there was Landon sitting besides her taking some notes. During the class we read through the classic Wuthering heights and discussed Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw tragic love story, and as usual Landon was being an annoying know-it -all, inputting his dumb opinions whenever he could. Like we ever needed them.
When the class was over I walked over to Iris and Landon who was literally glued to her side.
"Hey Belle!" Iris screamed, enclosing me in a tight hug which I reciprocated looking at Landon who was just standing there looking at us all stupid.
"Hey Belle, you were late today, as always." he finally said with his usual annoying smirk as though I didn't know that I came late. This annoying little piece of shit.
"Hey Landon" I said, just trying to be nice and taking the higher road.
"Whoa, you look really tired, you should go get some rest." he spoke as if he cared but could he just shut the hell up and go get a life, I just ignored his presence while I told Iris about the strange guy I bumped into today. And all she really cared about was if he was hot and if he had a hot friend, the short answer to both questions was yes but the long answer was hell yeah, of course they were all blazing hot.
A blond guy approached us with a cute smile.
"Hey Isaac!" Landon said as the two of them went for a weird handshake and hug thing, I think they were in the same frat. He had piercing blue eyes, with sandy blonde hair and his body was made out of pure muscles but honestly I have seen better today. Did he also go to our college? I haven't seen him before. Maybe he is new.
"Hey Isaac!" Iris blushed beside me and he smiled back at her. Who was this Isaac that apparently everyone else but me knew?
"Oh right, Isaac met my friend Isabelle. She's a bit quiet but trust me you're gonna love her when you get to know her." Iris said, winking at him. I pinched on her arm giving her the 'what the hell' look. She always tried to play Little Cupid's match maker with me like I was interested in a relationship.
"Well hello Isabelle." he smiled in a way only an angel could. "My name is Isaac" he picked up my hand from where I kept it beside me and before I knew it they were at his lips. And I must admit it did have a nice feel to it.
I withdrew my hand, my face turning a little bit red.
"I'm having a party at my parents' mansion tonight and of course you guys are invited. Most especially you Isabelle." He looked at me smiling in a cute way. But there was something in the way that he said my name. It sounded dangerously appealing. Very dangerous.
"Of course we'll come, especially Isabelle," Iris said, nudging me with her shoulder. Then Landon and Isaac walked away.
"He clearly likes you" she giggled as soon as they were gone.
"Well too bad cause I don't. Plus I'm not even going to his party anyways." I walked away to where me and Iris's car was parked.
"Why not? He is obviously into you." She sang in a sing-song manner.
"He is? Anyway I'm not. I'm exhausted and I have to catch up with school work and stuff" we arrived at the pink Prius, Iris's color choice not mine. Frankly I hated the color pink, it just looked a bit ugly to me.
"No Isabelle, you have to go. This is a chance for your little love garden to bloom!" She blurts out.
"Eww-" I said, shaking off what she just said as I got into the driver's seat.
"You need to have some fun Isabelle. Loosen up a bit." She advices but she was totally wrong. I was fun, I just wasn't into that kind of fun.
"Don't worry Iris. I think I'll survive, thank you." I smiled.
"Please! Just come just this one time. Pretty, pretty please! You can't possibly let me go there all alone?" She grumbled like a kid all through the ride to our apartment but I remained adamant on my decision. I couldn't get out of my head thoughts about the stranger I had met at the cafe earlier today. There was something in the way that handsome stranger held on to my wrist, the way his touch felt familiar to my skin that kept on lingering in my head and the intense look in his eyes got me hooked. I told him I hoped we didn't run into each other again, but was it wrong I prayed we accidentally bumped into one another once again?

Chapter 3
*The lookalike*
"But when you look in his eyes
Do you think of mine?
And when you look at that smile
Do I cross your mind?
I know in your head
You see me instead
'Cause he looks a lot like I did back then
Baby don't lie
He's just a lookalike" Conan gray ~lookalike
IT WAS JUST ELEVEN pm now. Its been exactly three hours since Iris was picked up by that faggot, Landon, for the party I blew off so I could study. Somehow a tiny part of me wondered how the party went as I buried my nose even into my English essay assignment that was due tomorrow, lord knows I was tired as fuck.
My phone buzzed from beside me. It was a call from Iris's cell phone. In an expeditious motion I picked it up.
"Hey. What's up Iris?" I said, thankful to her for the little bit of distraction I could get from studying.
"Hey Belle!" She slurred, her tone sounded a bit distracted and weirder than usual but apart from that she sounded like your typical hyper Iris.
"I kinda need your help" she giggled a bit. Was Iris calling me drunk right now? Oh god she always behaved so immature that I had to remain the mature one in our relationship.
"Are you drunk?" I asked, with furrowed brows.
She laughed then answered, "Yeah maybe just a little bit. It's damn too chilly out here."
"Where the fuck are you now?" I questioned her and she fell silent for about a split minute. I tried to listen in on the background and all I could hear was the stillness quiet of the air and the chirping of insects.
"I don't really know…" she continued to giggle. "I think somewhere around the woods. See the thing is, I was bored of the party and like I said before I was a little bit drunk so Landon offered to bring me home but Landon's car suddenly broke down on the way back and he has been gone for almost an hour, so please could you come pick me up. It's getting really spooky out here." ugh that weasel Landon, why couldn't he do anything right and he always bragged about how his car was brand new and all perfect.
"Stay right there. I'm on my way to get you." I told her squarely, standing up grabbing the car keys off from the wooden furniture.
"Please hurry... It's really cold out here." Iris murmured, I could hear her stamping her feet on the ground trying to stay warm. I needed to move with haste. While I was driving Iris had sent me a text of her actual whereabouts, and she was located deep in the woods. Why was she there in the first place, that area was restricted. Or so I had heard.
After I jumped out of the car, I slammed the door shut immediately pulling out my cell phone and turning on the torch. I dialed Iris's cell and I could hear the string of her ringtone echo dully from all around the thick dark forest. I flung my head to the right when I heard my name.
"Isabelle" I heard a voice call out from behind me which was followed by an icy touch on my shoulder.
"Jeez! Fuck Iris... Why are you creeping around like that?" I jumped around to find Iris. Her face looked so pale and white, I guess the cold must have gotten to her before I did.
"You actually came," Iris murmured, sounding a bit surprised. Was she not expecting me to come to get her? That was strange and if I was being honest she looked rather strange to me too. She looked strange, she acted strange and she spoke a bit weird, like she sounded like Iris but the manner in which she enunciated was different.
"Yeah, why are you so surprised?" I demanded, I could feel the whispering wind all around us get even colder. She waited for a second before replying.
"I'm not surprised, just happy that you came," she said with a feeble smile and a low key giggle. God I could swear Iris never acted this weird before.
"So where is that idiot Landon?" I thought where that moron was, maybe I could also give him a ride then he could pick up his car tomorrow with a towing truck. Even if he doesn't deserve one bit of my sympathy, I wasn't capable of leaving him stranded out here.
"You worry too much Belle. Landon is a big boy and can take care of himself" Iris muttered with the same impish giggle which was starting to tug hard on my nerves last string.
"Where is Landon's car?" I kept interrogating her because something just didn't feel right to me, everything was off.
"It's parked up ahead." she continued with her giggle like she was being possessed by a demonic entity. Maybe she is just acting like this because she is drunk, I thought. Let's just get the hell outta here, maybe then she will start acting like herself because this is starting to feel very creepy.
"Sure. Let's just get out of here... Quick." I said trailing towards the car with Iris who was sluggishly tailing behind me. Something clearly wasn't right here. I was so preoccupied by my thoughts that I barely heard the sound of my phone buzzing in my hand. It was from an unknown number and even though I don't normally answer strangers calls I slid to answer this time.
"Hello!" No one replied. All I could hear was the upbeat sound of music coming from the other side.
"Wassup Isabelle!" A female voice finally spoke and it sounded identical to Iris's, but when I turned to look back at the Iris behind me. She was just standing, smiling and staring at me with an emotionless gaze. This was creeping me out.
"Hello, are you still there? Belle!" The voice from the other side asked.
"Yeah--" I responded, whispering a bit.
"Oh my goddess! This party is totally lit. You are really missing out a lot, trust me. You even missed the chance to see Landon dancing on a table... Naked!" She then began to laugh hysterically while I just listened to her speak. This was Iris.
"See I lost my phone and I can't find it so I sort of borrowed Landon's phone just to call you. I just want you to know don't wait up for me tonight. I'm beyond wasted so I think I'm just going to crash here tonight." Iris said and I felt my heart sink deeper.
Oh my goddess! It didn't have to take a scientist or a tarot reader to figure out that the girl on the phone was indeed Iris. The real Iris. That would make whoever is standing behind me an imposter, a clone and nothing but a fucking fake.
"Is everything okay there Belle? Are you still there because you're awfully quiet. Do you need me to come back? Where are you?" The real Iris shot a stream of ear-stinging questions at me. I was out, practically in the middle of bloody nowhere with some stranger that possessed the ability to look and sound like my best friend. Oh goddess what the hell do I do now.
"I'll call you back" and with those words I ended the call.
"Who was that?" The fake Iris demanded from behind me. This time she spoke there were no giggles, no smiles, no nothing. She just had a straight dead serious face on and a menacing look in her eyes. For the first time this doppelganger made Iris look intimidating.
"It was no one really important. Just another person that I owe lots of money to." I lied, but it wasn't all utterly a facade, I literally had my neck buried deep in debts and I owed dozens of people money I couldn't believe it was even possible for me to be able to pay off, not even in another lifetime. That was another reason I lived on the run.
"Ahhhh... Is that so." the fake Iris chuckled as she shook her head as though she believed my lies.
"The night air is chilly, don't you think? It reminds me of the night when we escaped from that wretched orphanage home. Do you remember that night, Iris?" I demanded, raising both of my eyebrows in anticipation for her reply.
"Ahh... Yes... How can I ever forget that silly night? I remember running so hard that I could barely breathe." Her brisk tone signaled that she was unsure about what she was saying.
Liar!
The real Iris and I never attempted to escape from that cursed Willsbury orphanage home. That never happened. Even though I wanted to just run away from that place countless times, Iris would always talk me out of it everytime, so I stayed. This was all a test, a test that this lookalike just failed blatantly.
"That never happened." I stated “Who the hell are you?! Cause you're not Iris you're just a lookalike." I hissed through my teeth, staring right at my best friend's doppelganger. Suddenly, she burst out into a scary laughter.
"When did you figure that out?" She managed to say in between her laughs "I really thought that I was pulling it off"
"Yeah, at first you had me fooled until you started acting so fucking weird and then the phone call came." I said, my gaze unmoved from her. I knew that this was most likely a shape shifter or some other shape shifting creature but whatever it was, it was also after my life and for sure an epic fight to the death was about to break out because I wasn't going to just surrender easily. But there was this dangerous look in her eyes that sent dread to my soul, she had a powerful aura, one matched to a god.
"Curse that phone call. But looking at the bright side-- I succeeded in dragging you out here in the middle of nowhere. Now we are all alone. Now I can have the gifts of the gifted one!" Iris lookalike chuckled with an evil smirk. It was weird seeing Iris behave like this, seeing that sinister flair in her eyes is what feared me the most. It was so unnatural, so unlike the Iris I was used too. She was completely different from my Iris.
"Well I guess I don't have any use for this face anymore." Iris doppelganger said right before she began to distort and shift her face in an abnormal manner.
I was clouded in disbelief when the person standing just a few feet away from me suddenly didn't look like Iris anymore but like Isaac, the guy I met after literature class yesterday, Landon's friend.
So he was also a monster too?
" So you're a monster too?" I asked.
"Oh Isaac Werber isn't a monster, Isabelle. The poor guy has been dead for months now. He was just another wealthy victim of mine. But I must admit his skin felt super comfortable." he burst out laughing like a crazed lunatic. Poor Isaac was killed by this sickish monster, I was going to make sure I would avenge his death too, by killing this monster.
"So what are you then? A shapeshifter?" I inquired with a disgusted look. I needed to know what this monster was if I was going to kill it.
"That's close enough, but not quite it. You see all these crappy books and fairy tale bullshit has gotten the whole world mind warped about the true concept of what exactly is a shape shifter but darling I am the real deal. I'm the all powerful trickster Alectryon, the god of deceit and trickery!" he boasted with an evil smirk. In all I learnt about how to kill a shape shifting God was they could only be killed by either ripping out their hearts which was a messy option and would require me using my magic which I couldn't risk doing now, the other way to kill one was by staking its heart with a golden stake and honestly that option was more preferable by me.
"But you are indeed something else. Something rare and exquisite." He began circling me "When I got your scent it really got me intoxicated like some kind of drug. Honestly I never believed that the prophecies were true but nevertheless here I am standing before you. You are as beautiful as they said you would be. It's a shame that in a matter of minutes you would be nothing more than a dried up corpse." He growled again, this time his expression was ugly. I picked up the sharpest wooden stick I could find on the grass covered ground. I quickly took off my magical bracelet.
“Tre quez xilma noir rubito!” I chanted quickly at the stake, transforming it into a golden stake, capable of killing a shape shifting god. I quickly locked my wrist with my magical bracelet, holding my newly forged weapon in my hands.
“I see you know a lot about the supernatural creatures but it would take more than a golden stick to kill me! I'm Alectryon, the all powerful immortal trickster.” He roared, causing the earth to quake at the sound.
"Well are we going to fight or are you going to try talking me to death." I hissed, ready for another fight.
He growled, jumping high up to the sky like a fucking cat, then he lunged at me with razor sharp talons.
What the hell!? He is somehow mutating parts of his body just to distract me. Mixing different creatures seeming like a chimera of sorts. He had greenish scales all over his hands and body, like a snake. He delivered a hard blow to my chest, I'm fucking going to cut his skin off for that. He tried swinging for my neck but I easily ducked diving my stake beside his midsection. I saw black blood flow out of him.
"You're a bit slow don't you think?" I spat with a scornful smile that only seemed to make him all the more furious. This time he attacked me at the same time transforming his face to different faces of people I knew. It was like he could somehow see the faces of every single person I have come across in life. In just a quick second he looked like Prof. Darwin, my literature teacher, then like Landon and before I knew it I was staring at an identical figure of my mom.
I froze as I just peered at her image. "Mom!" The word escaped my lips. Her sandy blonde hair fell around her neck messily, with her pretty pair of aquarium blue eyes, she had everything. She looked exactly like her except this time she had a sinister smirk on her face.
It was then I realized that I had just fallen into his trick. That was not my mom on the contrary it was just a lookalike conjured up by this trickster but that was already a second too late as I felt razor like claws invade my stomach, I staggered a bit before falling on the ground paralyzed not being able to move a thing. His talons were dripping with an acidic venom.
The sickish sound of his laughter was all I could hear as I began to fade away into a fog in my mind. And I was out cold.
"Lights out sweetheart." I heard him snarl.
‘Mother please save me!’
